Like he said himself about that, "that was the end. That was my demise." I just wonder if Hendrick would've charged him 600k a month to keep the support
I heard DW say once one of the big expenses he didn’t realize was building their own engines I think for the first few years they got engines from Hendrick
He drove for Travis Carter in 99-2000 and he raced Fords those years. I think Hendrick supplied engines to them for 91 and 92. Chassis are easy to get especially in those days lot of chassis builders not many built chassis in house like they do now
I recall many years ago, in DW's latter days in racing, with how he expressed his deep appreciation for DEI for hiring him to drive for them, as it extended his racing career when DWM collapsed.
Please do Bill Elliott's and Geoff Bodine's teams. After Alan Kulwicki won his championship a bunch of Cup guys decided to start their own teams in the 90s. It's such an interesting period in the sport.
I think it was Kmart or Walmart that sold those as a set in 1:64th scale. I remember getting them as a kid (was about 10 at the time). Definitely loved them.
Also, for context on some of the results. From 95-the mid 2010s the truck series was extremely healthy with several teams capable of winning races. Far cry from what it is today. So those results from back then are really impressive.
Darrell actually owned his own car when he first got to cup. He won in it too. His 91 team was just a continuation of his team in the 70s. That’s part of the reason why he decided to start it back up. He felt like he could be a successful owner. He never even planned to drive for anyone else. Stevie had to convince him to sign with DiGard. As he felt like he was already running better than them. ( he was). But she reminded him that they were spending their own money racing. When he could be getting paid to do it.
Great video. I have a autographed 8x10 picture of DW's 1991 Pepsi 400 crash , where he is in the air and it looks like he is waving to the camera. It is my favorite autograph.
I wasn’t a fan of his but I really respect DW style and personality which is something today’s drivers lack and nascar doesn’t allow them to have anymore which is the result of bill France jr passing away. Bill Jr dying changed nascar far more than Dale Sr passing did.
Man. I just finished a script on a podcast episode looking at Darrell at DEI and talking about Waltrip's added experience to help the number 1 team as a former owner-driver. What are the chances?
Darrel Waltrip himself said “that when the team tried to make their own engines, it just didn’t work”. Had DW bought and kept running Hendricks power, who knows what could have become.
You said that you were eventually gonna do a Rise And Fall video of Randy Moss Motorsports in the Truck Series, and you wound up mentioning that in the Jarrett Farve Rise and Fall video.

I will pay for it i just didnt want to be sleezy and not ask if you wish i dont i wont. Planes badass it is 40% scale with a 400cc gas radial engine. Amr waco kit if you wanna look ot up and see. I met Waltrip at martinsville in 95....to keep it clean I was not impressed and wonder how many other people he shrugged off. Tony Stewart put him in his place at a Richmond pre race interview once.
Darrel Waltrip: where is my money
SpeedBlock: oh ya your money ya here is the thing I have stuff to do so cya

Darrel Waltrip: SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!
Switching from Hendrick Engines to In-House Engines was pretty much a death sentence for Darrell Waltrip Motorsports
Like he said himself about that, "that was the end. That was my demise." I just wonder if Hendrick would've charged him 600k a month to keep the support
Fe
I really like these Rise and Fall videos. They tell a lot about NASCAR history.
But it’s not the full history of the teams.
It’s the key points from the team’s programs in Nascar
I agree, DannyB does a great job.

Darrell was so happy after that pocono race in the DEI #1 car. You would’ve thought he just won the Daytona 500 again
I feel like Kyle Busch will eventually take the path of owning his own cup team. He reminds me a lot of Darrell Waltrip
He has his own truck series team, it is likely that in several years he will get his own team in cup if he gets his budget.
@@realbaron5714 or he could make his truck team to add a cup team, or buy a team or charter

Darrell Waltrip's Team really hit hard in it's final years
Being from Owensboro Kentucky I've always been a die hard Waltrip fan
My soccer number was 17. I played about as well as the 17 car ran lol
Oh wow
I loved that run he had in the 1 at Pocono. That would have been such a feel good moment if he would have won that race

The offseason is bringing back some of our favourite series, now we need 5 drivers you forgot about back
The Tim Flock Special was Darrell's paint scheme in NASCAR '99 for the N64.
Nice work DannyB!
I wish he could have stayed a DEI for another year. It was in the works, just didn’t happen.
Ty Norris’s fault. Please don’t come at me.

That Western Auto car looked so freaking sharp. Maybe my favorite scheme.

#45 David green had 1 pole with Tyler jet. It came in the inaugural homestead Miami race in 1999. It was the team's only pole as Tyler jet
Makes you wonder if Hendrick had kept 17 when DW left what number Matt Kenseth would have been known for with Roush
Probably another number...he might have gotten 26 since Benson left after 1999.
Man. I just finished a script on a podcast episode looking at Darrell at DEI and talking about Waltrip's added experience to help the number 1 team as a former owner-driver. What are the chances?
In 1995...he almost got running well again and when Earnhardt and him wrecked in the winston and broke 3 ribs....he was done then😢
Thanks for doing this one Danny
Edit: What I thought was a cup team was also a truck team!?

The '98 DW Tim Flock special was number 300 during practice, NASCAR made him change it for the race since they don't allow triple-digit numbers.
That is correct. But luckily for fans, Action produced the diecast as the number 300.
Good video
Danny we need the rise and fall of Randy Moss motorsports
And them Lycos wouldn't pay either. Benson done great with that car. He shoulda knew not to drive Jack Roushs car. Benson was great.
