I used needle nose pliers that I wrapped in heat shrink to prevent it from scratching the lenses. If you have those two things lying around it's way better than spending $20 on that specific tool.
i have a similair style glasses, and ive been so frustrated for like 2 years at how they fit, it feels so wonky and off, too close to brows and the cheek on one side, to far from my eye on the other and causes eye strain, it feels like everything about them is wrong and often causes nose pain too, its like the arms and the nosepads are so wrong but every single optician i have taken them to cant fix it or sometimes makes it worse :(

The consumer grade pliers I'm seeing have very mixed reviews. As a young guy with a life of glasses wearing ahead of me, $40 for the pro version seems like a small price to pay for decades of comfort. Haven't had great luck with in-store adjustments unfortunately, so I'd prefer to take this in my own hands. I'm living in Germany right now, so that adds a whole 'nother layer of complexity to the search. Anyway, thanks for the video!
Hmmm that does make it more difficult. I wish i could say I never hear anyone say that about adjustments, but unfortunately, I hear it often :( may be best to try and convince a local optician to order you a pair 🤣
Should I pull the nose pads out. For example, if I were holding my glasses, either you can adjust them left or right, how about mowing them toward you. I find that everytime I adjust it has gaps that just look awkward. I hope this makes sense.
Gotchya, in that case you would want to do that, but ideally with compensated lenses that account for the power changes moving them further away. Not as big of a deal for lower power but something to keep in mind.
ive been a glasses wearer for years now and the past year or 2 have developed an issue that is destroying my life - no matter how many times i adjust how many pairs of glasses i get and how many times ive been the opticians - the nose pads are a constant nuisance and upsetting my nose daily - either too tight and leave big red marks - or too loose and feel like i get sweat marks between them and my nose which is also really uncomfortable- for years non of that seemed an issue - nowadays its all i get
y'know, this is one of those wierd cases I would actually recommend consulting a dermatologist just to ensure there is nothing underlying there causing the irritation of glasses just to be entirely unbearable..... The key here is it has been across multiple glasses and numerous adjustments on top of that... the likliehood nobody and no combination got it right this entire time is.... well, probably larger than I would like, but still not super high. I would also recommend moving to a well fitted acetate frame to increase the contact area to reduce discomfort on the next pair :)

I was wondering, what's the difference between doing this with pliers and adjusting it carefully with your hands? Does it put more pressure on the metal? Is it at more risk of breaking? I always appreciate your input and knowledge, this channel is so helpful.
I’ve snapped far more off with my fingers than pliers :). It’s more precise control over where the torque is applied that’s key. Almost all rotational torque applied by the fingers goes straight to the weld/solder where the bass are fused on, and increases risk of breakage by a LOT.

If I'm adjusting to get them out from my face so my eyelashes don't brush the lenses, I'm assuming I'm taking the same action that you describe for moving them away from the brow. I would like to know if there is a prescribed "spot" at which they should rest on the nose? A target to hit, more or less?
You've got it correct :). Honestly it depends on the person and what's comfortable for them. Usually just a mm or two more away from the front is plenty to get them off the lashes :) "typical" placement on the nose will be about 1/3rd down, but this varies pretty wildly, especially for Roman and Greek noses that tend to go high on the face :)
The metal loop part of the nose pad is it better to have it closer to the frame or can I pull it out so the pad sits back further on the nose? No matter how wide or narrow I make the whole pad I get red painful marks on each side of my nose can't wear them for more than an hour. It's a shame as I have astigmatism and need to be wearing them alot more than I can currently. I'm just worried that the lens is making the glasses too heavy for my nose to be comfortable
Hello, I have a question about those grooved nose pads pliers, can they be used to bring the nose pads away from the frame too (my glasses keep touching my eyelashes haha) or are they just for adjusting the angles and and bringing the nose pads in and out? If they can do everything it's worth buying one!
They can be used for most any adjustment tot he pads, however, so can traditional needle nose pliers, just the chances of causing damage with traditional pliers is MUCH higher. Also I find it significantly easier to add splay with these specific pliers. Worth their weight in gold for someone regularly doing this, especially on expensive frames.
So, this has a LOT of debate behind it. Older pairs (before the late 1900's) it was largely with the wider area downwards. Today they're largely installed with the larger part facing up. Ans: Whichever is more comfortable for you, and adjust where the pressure is spread over as large an area as possible for maximum comfort :)
European nose pad pliers, or pad arm adjusting pliers. You can find cheap ones on ebay that can get the job done. The ones in the video are something like the optical equivalent of snap-on and run $40each 😅
Yep, they can be a huge pain. I've had a small band aid on my nose for over a year, and not wanting to go get the eye Dr. To fix the glasses. They would just want to sell me new glasses.

I don't know of nose pads should be push inward or more out from the frames my right ear is lower than my left I seem to got them fitted almost right but now the frame seems heavy right now the nose pads are adjusted more out away from the frames is this a good idea
Closer to the frame is generally better. But if the frame is wearing heavy on the bridge adjusting the temples up equally will more the balance of the frame more rearward and take some pressure off the bridge. (Very subtle). Most people have one ear lower than the other and adjusting for that is about making the frames sit level. :)

There are actually tons of different pads. Softer silicone, harder silicone, acrylic, acetate, titanium, air filled, gel filled (sounds great, it's not 🤣) titanium, etc...

In my spectacle , the distance of the pad arm from the glass is more in right than one as compared to left. That's why, one nosepad is some millimetres more into my skin . That's why I feel good in one side and bad in one side. Does this happen? Because I am teenager and wearing these types of glasses for the first time.
That's correct! Now, not everyone is perfectly symmetrical so the pad arms may not need to be in the exact same place on each side, but they usually will be pretty close for most people
So this isn't always JUST the nose pads, if it's one side consistently no matter the pad adjustment, it can actually be the arm is splayed out too far on one side (typically from removing glasses with one hand) and bringing the wide side back in some can also fix it.

I just got my first pair and a day later, my little brother knocks them off, one of the arms became loose but being the genius I am I thought it was the perfectly fitting nose pads which I then fiddled with and after I found it it was the arm that was loose which I had gotten that part fixed but now the nose pads keep digging into my nose and it hurts, it’s driving me crazy😭

Welll for starters most noses aren't symmetrical 😁 but it definitely takes some time and finesse to make them truly symmetrical, the best tip I can give you is using the base of your thumb as a test "nose" to see how the nose pads sit if symmetry is your goal :)
For those looking and reading I should probably address it some here as well! hah! The quick and short answer is one of a couple of things in most cases. the frame is lower on ONE side and needs adjustment (lower the temple on the low side to bring the low side up) to correct for that, OR the frame is CLOSER on one side typically from being removed with one hand and stretching that side out over time. The fix is to, of course, bring the stray temple back in! :) It could of course be other things, and that's why I think an entire other video addressing it is a great idea, definitely doing that for my mid-week video this week!
The only places I know of are commercial ophthalmic grade versions, and my italian made pliers in this video were $40 alone. Ebay you can find some cheap options around $10 "nose pad pliers" 🙂. Sorry I dont have a link to a specific one, as the italian brand I prefer is only available to industry pros with a wholesale account. 😔... maybe that's something I can work with a US supplier to offer on my website.... not a bad idea! 😁
That adjustment isn't made from the nose pads... great topic for next week's video! It should be made on the temple of the frame (the long pieces that run beside the head to the ears). The side that is sitting low would need bent downward, or the high side bent upwards, the choice is yours, but in general not knowing the rest of the adjustment or frame style down on the low side to raise it is the better option. :) This video will give you some idea of the concept: ua-cam.com/video/MrW4erXMnZI/v-deo.html
Good question Finch, it varies from store to store. Many these days will charge a small fee for adjustment if the glasses weren't purchased there, but some don't. You would just need to check with your local opticians to find out 🙂
Are "push in" nose pads less flexible than screw in nose pads? I mean, do they "wobble" less than the other and, as a result, are less comfortable to wear? Or there is no difference between the two? Do you find that air chamber silicone nose pads are more comfortable than the traditional ones?
Great questions. I could do an entire episode on the different pads out there.... and probably should. I'll work on getting a collection of some different types for that one of these days..... at any rate. Typically yes, the push in type are less forgiving from not having as much wiggle to just happily settle into place. Conversely they are also more liable to be properly adjusted and cause no problems. They're just less forgiving if something is off. Air chamber/gel filled pads vary as widely as frame material. Ranging from so soft the carrier sits on your nose and hurts worse than traditional, to absolute air filled bliss. The former is easy to come by, the latter is like finding a 24kt gold needle in a 40 acre farm's unrolled hay stacks. 🤣. Personally I prefer titanium pads for their ability to dissipate heat. They just feel so comforting, but again not forgiving to adjust for proper fit. Must be spot on.

Would you choose a screw in type of metal frame instead of a push in type since it's less likely to bother if the adjustment is not 100% right? A local optician suggested I tried these air chamber silicone pads (since I'm having trouble with the traditional ones) to see if I find they more comfortable, as you already know I'm really sensitive in the nose! I also heard about the titanium nose pads but they are so difficult to find! I just picked up these last few days a new titanium frame (weights 13 grams with the lenses). @@jimmyquadrophenic production tolerances vary, so one moving more than another is no surprise. The clamp itself can sometimes be adjusted to compensate for that too. True titanium pads are hard to come by (I can't get my hands on any at this time.....) and PRICEY. EASILY $50 a set. Larger soft silicone may be all you need... I like a soft silicone 15mm teardrop mounted upside down (by today's methods) in that case. Some air pads are great, but as mentioned above it varies wildly. Personally, I'll pick a clamp type if I know someone is particular about adjustment.... I much prefer control vs spray and pray (i.e. hope it lands right when they put it on!!!) 😁

It was so annoying because for a year my glasses well the frame part would press against the side of nose and I never knew how to fix it and now I have to wait for it to heal woohoo
Hi there! This video goes over that, more often than not its an issue of improperly adnusted or undersized pads, rarely the latter but it happens especially with heavier than normal lenses :)
Great topic vincent! Its a super easy fix, ill get the video up soon. In the mean time, the offending cheek hitter, the temple (arm, bow, whatever your name of choice is) needs to be brought inwards towards the other temple to balance it out. Often the easiest way to do this is 1/4 of the way back from the front of the temple bend inwards. You want both temples parallel to each other 😁
@@ThatGlassesGuy03 people and most websites and whatnot will focus on face shape, which does play a part but isn’t as important as whether it’s flat out too big/small or isn’t correct for the eye. Many frames can be adjusted to fit decently.
This is a weird question but one fell out today and after thousands of videos I haven’t been able to re-attach it. Would it look stupid if I took the other pad out and just wore them with the metal thing because I’m over it already 😂
Haha, look is a thing, comfort matters more. Often when the pads fall off they need to be replaced. Very often its a two piece thing and part of the base fails.. at any rate, no harm in wearing without pads except maybe a sore nose depending on the fit. I.e. you aren't going to hurt the glasses until you can get the pads replaced somewhere :)

It wasn't a ridiculous question at all, especially given current situations with dispensaries closed across parts of the world 🙂. The only time its effectively bad is if you have a progressive lens or a freeform design and stronger prescription, and even then you're just changing the effective power of the lenses ever so slightly. Less than ideal, but works.

However, I searched Taobao and found that there are pliers with rubber pads for sale, and they are specially marked that they won't scratch the glasses. My baby glasses.. Just bought it for a week..

There are lots of pads made with nylon grips, but I havent seen any of the type specifically made for nose pads with the notch for the back, largely the proper tool for the job only puts pressure on the nose pad itself and not the frame.... when the right tool for the right pad is used 🙃.

If it's just the silicone pad, those can be replaced. If the whole arm that connects the pad to the frame has snapped off, you'll need to have it soldered back on (local jewelers are the best bet and typically charge around 30-50$ for that service). Hope that helps!
They do. Gel filled. Air filled. Memory foam. Pretty well every catch phrase under the sun has been made into nose pads for universal fits. Now if your specific frame has a proprietary mount that no one makes pads for, that's another matter entirely :)
But for what it's worth, the softer materials rarely work better. A proper fit pad with a good ergonomic design will outperform a soft pad everytime... softness just allows for more user error. I have far better luck with ceramic pads on our higher end frames, but those are also designed to contour to the nose shape from the factory, then tweak for each individual nose for wearing bliss 🥰

Not a correct comparison at all. Your spine needs softness and hardness in various places. The nose is already made of a soft material. Most soft pads are TOO SOFT and end up letting the majority of the pressure ride on a much smaller hard insert. 🙃 but what do I know 😉
I never het the good adjustment i have always irritation from the pads i have switched from silicone to titanium pads but stil i get irritation the pads are flat against mu nose and dont give pressure only irritation i always feel somthing is there on my nose i have already troef tataniun lindberg glasses but stil the same you have a solution fore me
Right off if even a Lindberg feels too heavy on the nose I would suspect a frame balance issue, and highly suggest getting away from rimless frames if this is related to your prescription lens weight. Otherwise it's equally likely your ears are a tad higher than average creating a front heavy frame no matter what else is done, in this case it's as simple as raising the position of the temples on the frames to bring the balance point back on the frame when resting on your face.

Awe were do you work, every glasses place in my city of Winnipeg, Canada dislike me, as my glasses are never sitting right and I'm in almost once a week trying to get adjustments 😥 I am one of those people who has snapped a nose piece right off my 1 month old frames 😥 I have a extremely high prescription and my lenses are about 1/2 thick so very heavy it's so hard to ever get them to sit properly on my face and pretty much all glasses stores in my city do not want me coming in anymore 🤦♀️ I'm really not annoying I just think it's just more frustrating to most of them, as it's never right 🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️ Please teach me how to self adjust without breaking, the last pair I broke I had a warranty so got replaced for $28 now have no room for error with adjustments warranty is now over 😥 and no back up pair. I'm a -9 in my right and -9.25 in my left no glasses for me just means walking blind literally 🤦♀️ Please help if can ❤
Oh my!! Unfortunately, its a horror story I hear too often... particularly with higher prescriptions, at -9 there's no reason for super thick lenses with a well controlled and good fit from the outset, but I digress. Not sure why everybody is so impressed. You didn't go into detail about how to bend it to achieve what effect. And, at one point, you did the most important bend off camera.
All in how we learn and perceive the information we’re given. Showing you how to make the bend in this case isn’t going to change anything, as everyone will need different bends to work properly. The key concepts are kept light and simple. I actually have much deeper dives on fit if you go through the playlist, but this is some solid starting point information for the average person.
Not entirely true, but also not entirely wrong. That's why the angle and splay matter more in those cases (particularly with the far more sensitive to location progressive lenses) however 😁
Oh no! :( if the arm that holds the pad on is broken off their is hope though, find a local jeweler that can precision weld and put it back on :) if the pad itself broke, that's an easy replacement item too 🙂
The bends I make won’t be correct for other people. Though, I also didn’t realize I did that 🤦♂️. With the pads it’s pretty easy to figure out though. Just grab it with your fingers and manipulate as needed based on the instructions given :)
It works until it doesn't 🙃😁 easier to snap off a pad arm and much harder to set good splay angle. But its definitely doable on many frames, the cheaper the easier (For adjusting and breaking)🤣.
@@leroyybrown impacts are different than strong torsional forces. Ive seen many snapped off in trained opticians hands, and many more come in the door holding a pad arm and a pair of glasses separately (have one on my desk to repair right now even 🤣)
You aren’t showing me what you are doing. I live too far away from the people who do adjust my glasses, I’m not wasting my gas to go all the way over there so I’d like to know properly how to do it you’re not showing me how you properly doing it you just explain without the view of what you’re bending how you’re doing it, so we don’t screw up our own glasses.
Just explaining concepts in this video, which should give in incredible base for what needs done. There’s not much to show on video if you understand the concept. Grab the pads and bend! 😁just be careful as torquing them too much can lead to snapping them off.

I used needle nose pliers that I wrapped in heat shrink to prevent it from scratching the lenses. If you have those two things lying around it's way better than spending $20 on that specific tool.
Nice trick! Alternatively plasti dip on a set works in a pinch if you have the time to spare. The real old school thick dip, not the newer sprays 😁.

i have a similair style glasses, and ive been so frustrated for like 2 years at how they fit, it feels so wonky and off, too close to brows and the cheek on one side, to far from my eye on the other and causes eye strain, it feels like everything about them is wrong and often causes nose pain too, its like the arms and the nosepads are so wrong but every single optician i have taken them to cant fix it or sometimes makes it worse :(
For starters the frame probably needs taken back to a complete standard alignment and then adjusted from there, I’ll link a couple videos for you that should get you there, but also keep in mind some metal frames just don’t hold adjustment well at all.

The consumer grade pliers I'm seeing have very mixed reviews. As a young guy with a life of glasses wearing ahead of me, $40 for the pro version seems like a small price to pay for decades of comfort. Haven't had great luck with in-store adjustments unfortunately, so I'd prefer to take this in my own hands. I'm living in Germany right now, so that adds a whole 'nother layer of complexity to the search. Anyway, thanks for the video!
Hmmm that does make it more difficult. I wish i could say I never hear anyone say that about adjustments, but unfortunately, I hear it often :( may be best to try and convince a local optician to order you a pair 🤣
Should I pull the nose pads out. For example, if I were holding my glasses, either you can adjust them left or right, how about mowing them toward you. I find that everytime I adjust it has gaps that just look awkward. I hope this makes sense.
Moving them towards you will only move the lenses further away. Not a good thing.

Gotchya, in that case you would want to do that, but ideally with compensated lenses that account for the power changes moving them further away. Not as big of a deal for lower power but something to keep in mind.

ive been a glasses wearer for years now and the past year or 2 have developed an issue that is destroying my life - no matter how many times i adjust how many pairs of glasses i get and how many times ive been the opticians - the nose pads are a constant nuisance and upsetting my nose daily - either too tight and leave big red marks - or too loose and feel like i get sweat marks between them and my nose which is also really uncomfortable- for years non of that seemed an issue - nowadays its all i get
y'know, this is one of those wierd cases I would actually recommend consulting a dermatologist just to ensure there is nothing underlying there causing the irritation of glasses just to be entirely unbearable..... The key here is it has been across multiple glasses and numerous adjustments on top of that... the likliehood nobody and no combination got it right this entire time is.... well, probably larger than I would like, but still not super high. I would also recommend moving to a well fitted acetate frame to increase the contact area to reduce discomfort on the next pair :)

I was wondering, what's the difference between doing this with pliers and adjusting it carefully with your hands? Does it put more pressure on the metal? Is it at more risk of breaking? I always appreciate your input and knowledge, this channel is so helpful.
I’ve snapped far more off with my fingers than pliers :). It’s more precise control over where the torque is applied that’s key. Almost all rotational torque applied by the fingers goes straight to the weld/solder where the bass are fused on, and increases risk of breakage by a LOT.

If I'm adjusting to get them out from my face so my eyelashes don't brush the lenses, I'm assuming I'm taking the same action that you describe for moving them away from the brow. I would like to know if there is a prescribed "spot" at which they should rest on the nose? A target to hit, more or less?
You've got it correct :). Honestly it depends on the person and what's comfortable for them. Usually just a mm or two more away from the front is plenty to get them off the lashes :) "typical" placement on the nose will be about 1/3rd down, but this varies pretty wildly, especially for Roman and Greek noses that tend to go high on the face :)

The metal loop part of the nose pad is it better to have it closer to the frame or can I pull it out so the pad sits back further on the nose? No matter how wide or narrow I make the whole pad I get red painful marks on each side of my nose can't wear them for more than an hour.

Hello, I have a question about those grooved nose pads pliers, can they be used to bring the nose pads away from the frame too (my glasses keep touching my eyelashes haha) or are they just for adjusting the angles and and bringing the nose pads in and out? If they can do everything it's worth buying one!
They can be used for most any adjustment tot he pads, however, so can traditional needle nose pliers, just the chances of causing damage with traditional pliers is MUCH higher. Also I find it significantly easier to add splay with these specific pliers. Worth their weight in gold for someone regularly doing this, especially on expensive frames.
Does the narrow or large end of the pad go up when replacing them?
So, this has a LOT of debate behind it. Older pairs (before the late 1900's) it was largely with the wider area downwards. Today they're largely installed with the larger part facing up. Ans: Whichever is more comfortable for you, and adjust where the pressure is spread over as large an area as possible for maximum comfort :)

European nose pad pliers, or pad arm adjusting pliers. You can find cheap ones on ebay that can get the job done. The ones in the video are something like the optical equivalent of snap-on and run $40each 😅
Yep, they can be a huge pain. I've had a small band aid on my nose for over a year, and not wanting to go get the eye Dr. To fix the glasses. They would just want to sell me new glasses.
Most opticals are more than happy to make this type of adjustment without trying to sell you a new pair :)

Closer to the frame is generally better. But if the frame is wearing heavy on the bridge adjusting the temples up equally will more the balance of the frame more rearward and take some pressure off the bridge. (Very subtle). Most people have one ear lower than the other and adjusting for that is about making the frames sit level. :)

There are actually tons of different pads. Softer silicone, harder silicone, acrylic, acetate, titanium, air filled, gel filled (sounds great, it's not 🤣) titanium, etc...

How dare you 🤣. Rayban is nothing like it was 20 years ago ☹. At any rate, no bringing the nose pads in will only raise up the frame and add more problems. The fit behind the ears or the frame being too tight will cause slippage.

In my spectacle , the distance of the pad arm from the glass is more in right than one as compared to left. That's why, one nosepad is some millimetres more into my skin . That's why I feel good in one side and bad in one side. Does this happen? Because I am teenager and wearing these types of glasses for the first time.
That's correct! Now, not everyone is perfectly symmetrical so the pad arms may not need to be in the exact same place on each side, but they usually will be pretty close for most people
Exact problem...tried to fix them many times... couldn't..it's very uncomfortable
So this isn't always JUST the nose pads, if it's one side consistently no matter the pad adjustment, it can actually be the arm is splayed out too far on one side (typically from removing glasses with one hand) and bringing the wide side back in some can also fix it.

I just got my first pair and a day later, my little brother knocks them off, one of the arms became loose but being the genius I am I thought it was the perfectly fitting nose pads which I then fiddled with and after I found it it was the arm that was loose which I had gotten that part fixed but now the nose pads keep digging into my nose and it hurts, it’s driving me crazy😭

Welll for starters most noses aren't symmetrical 😁 but it definitely takes some time and finesse to make them truly symmetrical, the best tip I can give you is using the base of your thumb as a test "nose" to see how the nose pads sit if symmetry is your goal :)

For those looking and reading I should probably address it some here as well! hah! The quick and short answer is one of a couple of things in most cases. the frame is lower on ONE side and needs adjustment (lower the temple on the low side to bring the low side up) to correct for that, OR the frame is CLOSER on one side typically from being removed with one hand and stretching that side out over time. The fix is to, of course, bring the stray temple back in! :) It could of course be other things, and that's why I think an entire other video addressing it is a great idea, definitely doing that for my mid-week video this week!

The only places I know of are commercial ophthalmic grade versions, and my italian made pliers in this video were $40 alone. Ebay you can find some cheap options around $10 "nose pad pliers" 🙂. Sorry I dont have a link to a specific one, as the italian brand I prefer is only available to industry pros with a wholesale account. 😔... maybe that's something I can work with a US supplier to offer on my website.... not a bad idea! 😁

That adjustment isn't made from the nose pads... great topic for next week's video! It should be made on the temple of the frame (the long pieces that run beside the head to the ears). The side that is sitting low would need bent downward, or the high side bent upwards, the choice is yours, but in general not knowing the rest of the adjustment or frame style down on the low side to raise it is the better option. :)

Are "push in" nose pads less flexible than screw in nose pads? I mean, do they "wobble" less than the other and, as a result, are less comfortable to wear? Or there is no difference between the two?

Great questions. I could do an entire episode on the different pads out there.... and probably should. I'll work on getting a collection of some different types for that one of these days..... at any rate. Typically yes, the push in type are less forgiving from not having as much wiggle to just happily settle into place. Conversely they are also more liable to be properly adjusted and cause no problems. They're just less forgiving if something is off. Air chamber/gel filled pads vary as widely as frame material. Ranging from so soft the carrier sits on your nose and hurts worse than traditional, to absolute air filled bliss. The former is easy to come by, the latter is like finding a 24kt gold needle in a 40 acre farm's unrolled hay stacks. 🤣. Personally I prefer titanium pads for their ability to dissipate heat. They just feel so comforting, but again not forgiving to adjust for proper fit. Must be spot on.

Would you choose a screw in type of metal frame instead of a push in type since it's less likely to bother if the adjustment is not 100% right? I just picked up these last few days a new titanium frame (weights 13 grams with the lenses). They are really light but I'm having trouble with the nose pads, they are the screw in type (traditional "hard" silicone). They also have other adjusment problemss 🤣 I wish that I had an optician like you in my town, I guess I'm a really picky person and very demanding when it comes to my glasses (I have to be, I'm blind as a bat without them and contacts annoy me) 🤣. Would you suggest that I try the titanium ones instead of the air chamber?
I also noticed that one nose pad "wiggles" more than the other, is that normal?
@@jimmyquadrophenic production tolerances vary, so one moving more than another is no surprise. The clamp itself can sometimes be adjusted to compensate for that too. True titanium pads are hard to come by (I can't get my hands on any at this time.....) and PRICEY. EASILY $50 a set. Larger soft silicone may be all you need... I like a soft silicone 15mm teardrop mounted upside down (by today's methods) in that case. Some air pads are great, but as mentioned above it varies wildly.
Personally, I'll pick a clamp type if I know someone is particular about adjustment.... I much prefer control vs spray and pray (i.e. hope it lands right when they put it on!!!) 😁

Great topic vincent! Its a super easy fix, ill get the video up soon. In the mean time, the offending cheek hitter, the temple (arm, bow, whatever your name of choice is) needs to be brought inwards towards the other temple to balance it out. Often the easiest way to do this is 1/4 of the way back from the front of the temple bend inwards. You want both temples parallel to each other 😁

Of course, just be careful as by hand it is VERY easy to over torque the joint (especially cheaper construction) and break the pad arm off entirely.

Haha, look is a thing, comfort matters more. Often when the pads fall off they need to be replaced. Very often its a two piece thing and part of the base fails.. at any rate, no harm in wearing without pads except maybe a sore nose depending on the fit. I.e. you aren't going to hurt the glasses until you can get the pads replaced somewhere :)

It wasn't a ridiculous question at all, especially given current situations with dispensaries closed across parts of the world 🙂. The only time its effectively bad is if you have a progressive lens or a freeform design and stronger prescription, and even then you're just changing the effective power of the lenses ever so slightly. Less than ideal, but works.

However, I searched Taobao and found that there are pliers with rubber pads for sale, and they are specially marked that they won't scratch the glasses. My baby glasses.. Just bought it for a week..

There are lots of pads made with nylon grips, but I havent seen any of the type specifically made for nose pads with the notch for the back, largely the proper tool for the job only puts pressure on the nose pad itself and not the frame.... when the right tool for the right pad is used 🙃.

If it's just the silicone pad, those can be replaced. If the whole arm that connects the pad to the frame has snapped off, you'll need to have it soldered back on (local jewelers are the best bet and typically charge around 30-50$ for that service). Hope that helps!

Why don't they make SOFT, gel type ones is my question. The brand I have uses a propietery style that is as rare as hen's teeth, and hard as steel
They do. Gel filled. Air filled. Memory foam. Pretty well every catch phrase under the sun has been made into nose pads for universal fits. Now if your specific frame has a proprietary mount that no one makes pads for, that's another matter entirely :)
But for what it's worth, the softer materials rarely work better. A proper fit pad with a good ergonomic design will outperform a soft pad everytime... softness just allows for more user error. I have far better luck with ceramic pads on our higher end frames, but those are also designed to contour to the nose shape from the factory, then tweak for each individual nose for wearing bliss 🥰

Not a correct comparison at all. Your spine needs softness and hardness in various places. The nose is already made of a soft material. Most soft pads are TOO SOFT and end up letting the majority of the pressure ride on a much smaller hard insert. 🙃 but what do I know 😉

I never het the good adjustment i have always irritation from the pads i have switched from silicone to titanium pads but stil i get irritation the pads are flat against mu nose and dont give pressure only irritation i always feel somthing is there on my nose i have already troef tataniun lindberg glasses but stil the same you have a solution fore me
Right off if even a Lindberg feels too heavy on the nose I would suspect a frame balance issue, and highly suggest getting away from rimless frames if this is related to your prescription lens weight. Otherwise it's equally likely your ears are a tad higher than average creating a front heavy frame no matter what else is done, in this case it's as simple as raising the position of the temples on the frames to bring the balance point back on the frame when resting on your face.

Awe were do you work, every glasses place in my city of Winnipeg, Canada dislike me, as my glasses are never sitting right and I'm in almost once a week trying to get adjustments 😥 I am one of those people who has snapped a nose piece right off my 1 month old frames 😥 I have a extremely high prescription and my lenses are about 1/2 thick so very heavy it's so hard to ever get them to sit properly on my face and pretty much all glasses stores in my city do not want me coming in anymore 🤦♀️ I'm really not annoying I just think it's just more frustrating to most of them, as it's never right 🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️ Please teach me how to self adjust without breaking, the last pair I broke I had a warranty so got replaced for $28 now have no room for error with adjustments warranty is now over 😥 and no back up pair. I'm a -9 in my right and -9.25 in my left no glasses for me just means walking blind literally 🤦♀️ Please help if can ❤
Oh my!! Unfortunately, its a horror story I hear too often... particularly with higher prescriptions, at -9 there's no reason for super thick lenses with a well controlled and good fit from the outset, but I digress. For adjustments I have a whole video on standard alignment that briefly overviews the starting place. This one for nose pads, and another for temples about loose slipping glasses. The three together should teach most of the basics, and are all in the materials tech and tips Playlist on my channel. Canada has some amazing opticala and great opticians, but I'm thinking more Toronto area for those I know up there, I'm in Tennessee in the United States ☹. I'm so sorry you've had a bad experience with opticals, especially with an rx such as yourself, I really hate seeing that happen 😭

Ouch, yeah they do eventually give up on us at some point 😅. On a plus side they can often be welded or soldered back on depending on the material :)

Most metal frames are stainless which is fine for soldering the pad arms back on :) not significantly different than soldering a wire 😁

Not sure why everybody is so impressed. You didn't go into detail about how to bend it to achieve what effect. And, at one point, you did the most important bend off camera.
All in how we learn and perceive the information we’re given. Showing you how to make the bend in this case isn’t going to change anything, as everyone will need different bends to work properly. The key concepts are kept light and simple. I actually have much deeper dives on fit if you go through the playlist, but this is some solid starting point information for the average person.
Raising glasses up is not an option for trifocals.
Not entirely true, but also not entirely wrong. That's why the angle and splay matter more in those cases (particularly with the far more sensitive to location progressive lenses) however 😁

Oh no! :( if the arm that holds the pad on is broken off their is hope though, find a local jeweler that can precision weld and put it back on :) if the pad itself broke, that's an easy replacement item too 🙂

The bends I make won’t be correct for other people. Though, I also didn’t realize I did that 🤦♂️. With the pads it’s pretty easy to figure out though. Just grab it with your fingers and manipulate as needed based on the instructions given :)

It works until it doesn't 🙃😁 easier to snap off a pad arm and much harder to set good splay angle. But its definitely doable on many frames, the cheaper the easier (For adjusting and breaking)🤣.
@@ThatGlassesGuy03 The pad arm must adsorb considerable impact such as walking into a door jamb. Never seen a break in 35 years of wearing them
@@leroyybrown impacts are different than strong torsional forces. Ive seen many snapped off in trained opticians hands, and many more come in the door holding a pad arm and a pair of glasses separately (have one on my desk to repair right now even 🤣)

I live too far away from the people who do adjust my glasses, I’m not wasting my gas to go all the way over there so I’d like to know properly how to do it you’re not showing me how you properly doing it you just explain without the view of what you’re bending how you’re doing it, so we don’t screw up our own glasses.
Just explaining concepts in this video, which should give in incredible base for what needs done. There’s not much to show on video if you understand the concept. Grab the pads and bend! 😁just be careful as torquing them too much can lead to snapping them off.
