Yep, yep. California here wanting to know what this sweet tea thing is all about. We just add a teaspoon of sugar to our cup before drinking our tea if we want it sweet. :)
I had originally looked this up to judge people on how little sugar they use but you actually ended up teaching me something instead about the whole not letting it boil thing
Way to go!!! No boiling and adding sugar to hot tea prevents the tea from clouding. I add cold water to hot tea bags again and squeeze. Surprising how much tea is still there. Good job~~~~
This is exactly how I make it. You are correct people run into problems when they try to boil the tea and that makes it bitter, it doesn't need to be too hot. Great vid.
Good video. I really liked the tip to not boil the water. I had always heard that you have to add boiling water, but my tea always has that bitter taste. Trying this now! Thanks!!!
@offtomilan I personally use Luzianne tea bags. I have used various blends before, yet the Luzianne seems to be the one I like most. I used to use Lipton.
Never heard of the Baking Soda idea, but the bitterness is pretty much nil using this method. I have done the "simple syrup" method before, but just went back to the lazy man's way that works quite well :) Thanks for the comment.
After years of trial and error trying to make the perfect sweet tea I've found 165 F to be the best temperature actually. I use 2 tea bags for every quart even though the directions say otherwise and I also never let it steep for more than a minute or two.
I do pretty much the same, except I run the water slow and stir until the tea is full. I have found this both stops the bubbling and distributes the sweetness better.
I do 6 cups of water and 6 tea bags. Like you I don’t quite boil the water. Add in another 2 cups of cold water and put it in the fridge. When I get me a glass of tea I’ll add a half teaspoon or so of sugar. People like different levels of sweetness so I let em do there own sugar.
Thank you... I was just trying to make tea cause I was thirsty and I di did not know how to make it, so I looked it up and you make the best sweet tea it tasted so good sweet not too much sugar thank you so much and I will definitely always use this recipe
I remember drinking this stuff all the time as a kid, after we moved to NY my dad stopped making it so now I'm trying to make it. And I mean we always had this stuff in a big plastic jug inside of our fridge. We are gonna be moving to Virginia this summer hopefully so it'll become a daily drink again hopefully.
Thank you for your video and I can see one of the things I did differently from you was I would add the sugar During the boiling process along with the tea bags so I’m going to try out your way today thanks again for your insight and your video
I use the Mr Coffee Iced Tea Maker but I let my tea mellow(sit at room temperature for 10-20 minutes) before I serve or refrigerate(It takes away the bitterness). Here's what I do to make sweet tea(this video is for sweetened tea)... use water in pitcher instead of ice and keep it on 'closed' until brewing is finished, 6 teabags(8 for gallon), 1 1/2 cup sugar(2 for gallon), and press button to start brewing.
i wold normally just put 6 tea bags in and bring to boil let sit for about 15to20 min then boil agien then let sit for at lease 30 min or more the pour sugar in from the bag thats how iv did it for years
It's not an exact science or anything with the amounts of water. I probably used 1.5 to 2 cups of water to boil it in. When I use the standard sized tea bags, I use 7-8 and this makes 1 gallon of iced tea. The tea I use is a Luzianne blend made for Iced Tea. Being in Europe, you can order this from the Luzianne site directly. I know that there are many more types to choose from in Europe typically and would hate to even try to suggest a blend. Tetley is also sold here and might work well.
Hmnnnn...this is soooo thirst quenching! I used to live in Jackson, ms and this is the way to do it! Except some use brown sugar for added robustness to the flavor!
Buy a gallon of water or juice and pour it into the kool aid pitcher and it will give you the measurement but 9/10 it's going to be a gallon kool aid pitcher
I think what a lot of people (non-southern) don't understand is that the best time to sweeten tea is while it is still hot.
You have 30,000+ northern watching your video. I can guarantee if you are southern you already know how to make sweet tea.
Yep, yep. California here wanting to know what this sweet tea thing is all about. We just add a teaspoon of sugar to our cup before drinking our tea if we want it sweet. :)
Well, apparently you're here watching the video...soooooo...
Guess I'm northern now

Came out perfectly. Thanks for the tip on not boiling the water - bitterness is the death of southern sweet tea.
This is exactly how I make it. You are correct people run into problems when they try to boil the tea and that makes it bitter, it doesn't need to be too hot. Great vid.

Thanks Beth... I am glad to hear you picked up a little tip from the video. I hope you can enjoy an even better glass of sweet tea soon :)
@offtomilan I personally use Luzianne tea bags. I have used various blends before, yet the Luzianne seems to be the one I like most. I used to use Lipton.
This guy is definitely married, any woman would love to have a guy like that.
He timed the “enjoy” right as the ice started to float. Too clean lmao.

I take the bags (after heating and steeping) and put in cold water to cool them off and then squeeze the tea liquid out and add to mix.
Best Iced Tea method I’ve ever used. Thank you!
i made this today and it came delicious, thank you for sharing!!!
Makes tea that's not bitter. Best vid on UA-cam!
This is exactly how my momma taught me to make her southern sweet tea.
I’m a 13yo who doesn’t do good with directions lol so Thxs for breaking it down! TEA WAS AMAZING 💓
Sure. You will probably need to adjust the amount of tea bags and sugar for you tastes, but you could use this process for any type of tea.
After years of trial and error trying to make the perfect sweet tea I've found 165 F to be the best temperature actually. I use 2 tea bags for every quart even though the directions say otherwise and I also never let it steep for more than a minute or two.

Must have had a good quality camera, the video is about to be 10 years old.
Great video! Iam not southern but, I sure do love sweet tea:)
Wow, my 35 year old boyfriend, just attempted to make tea for the first time. I just kinda scooted him out of the way.

As a brit I am kinda confused as to what kind of tea you use, is it just black tea or is it a special blend
You sound JUST like the guy that plays Harris Ryland on Dallas!

But that ain't authentic.
Lazy ass
MyNameIsBudder
Or you can make 1 full gallon for 1/3 the price.
$$$$$$
You copied off the moss family tv's sweet southern tea
The similarity is a bit funny, especially since my video was done many years before their video. We probably just have very similar recipes.
Um he used tap water. No thank you
You must not be from the south. that's what we use.
+Drew Hanson hell yeah it hasn't killed me in 30 years
