Oh boy, just what I like to see, independent results, thank you Richard
the old sad part is Richard doesn't show us brrrap brrrap install like you, and goodandtight methodology.. We wish he did..
I want to see it with boost
@@zacharygray5791 boost is just a multiplier
@Sloppy Mechanics How would the sloppy best compare to your Sloppy Stage 1.5 (elgin 1839p) camshaft? N/A ls1 in a truck with boost doen the road
@@braydenmeals9311 just throw in a cam and springs. Don't overthink it :) my 5 cents.
The entire performance community owes you a debt of gratitude. Thank you so much for running down to 2000!!
I love how you explain the difference on the cams thank you for your time
Always so helpful. Thanks Richard . appreciate you
Been waiting for some sloppy best comparisons, thank you!
Fabulous comparison!
Next request would be a comparison of a SS2 and a Sloppy Best cam on a 6.0L or 6.2L. 😉
What is ss2
@@utahcountypicazospage5412 Sloppy stage 2 im guessing.
Look at the video Matt posted- it covers exactly that. Research is your friend.
@@utahcountypicazospage5412 super sayian 2
Did he do one ??
Richard, thanks for the testing!
Ready for part 2 sir!
They say you are not working if you do what you love. You are always so "up", positive, and energetic, the love and enthusiasm comes through in gobs of horsepower! I am building a 408 for my silverado so I LOVE all these comparison videos. Looks like, at least for me, it's the truck Norris cam.
Great content as always, Richard.
Sooooo many people have been biting their nails waiting for this, including myself! Thanks for going over the data. Hoping the SB does well in my turbo 6.0
Is the SB doing well in your 6.0?
Awesome video! I've been waiting for more info on the truck Norris cam.
Great comparo! Those RHS/Mast heads seem to be very strong-any comparison of them to, say, TFS 215s? Otherwise it looks like that increased bore is really worth it! Thanks Richard. Looking for part 2…
Perfect, thank you. Truck Norris it is. My truck does a-lot of off roading and is built to do that stuff, though it mostly just DDs come hunting season and messy weather I often push it. I want that mid range oomph.
Hope we can see these cams up against more cams. Let's break out the comp cams and of course the sloppy stage 2. And on a 6.2 or 6.0.
Awesome as usual bro Ritchie!!
Truck Norris does what I think many suspected. Another great vid.
Been waiting for this 🙌
Would like to see those two on the chart with original sloppy stage 2.
Been really looking at the Norris camshaft for a while now soo happy u tested this on a 5.3 I can't get it out of my head though that I'll get another few up w the sloppy best though. Think I g I'm gonna go w the sloppy shaft
Thanks Richard, you teach things that apply to all engines, I’m a big FE fan, but the builders are really getting to be real jerks. I am about to switch to the LS. Lol.
looking forward too part 2
Thank you so much for the video I was undecided intell know for my 09 avalanche z71
I'd love to see a Comp cams 54-456-11, which is basically a high lift GM Hot cam. I think it'd be right in the middle. 706 heads are made for 1-5/8" headers...and they work very well up to 500 bhp.
🔥🔥Awesome Stuff Richard!!! What it means to me is my Gen IV 4.8 at the machine shop, gets Bored and Honed to 3.905 👍🏽🔥🔥
Great video Richard. For me Truck Norris it will be...torque is king in heavy vehicles..
Yeah i been waiting for this! I chose a ss2 over the truck norris mostly bc of price but have wondered ig i made wrong choice
Could we see the Truck Noris, Sloppy Best, and Sloppy Stg 2 curves on the same graph on the same engine?
I have mentioned tight LSA does good things for torque multiple times.
Very interesting but if your chosen cam is going in a daily street driven vehicle, it's probably not at full throttle very often and I'd put my money on the btr cam being better at part throttle conditions in most applications. I would have a conversation with btr and a few other knowledgeable companies before purchasing such a vital part of my combination based on a dyno test or a small price difference.
Awesome! When will another round of these come out?
Sweet good job Richard nice video
Biggest difference is in the cost involved to support each, the TN can use GM springs while the SB needs aftermarket due to lift, TN was developed to be used with factory converter while as you mentioned the SB looks to need a converter upgrade so unless you are doing a TB converter its a few hundred dollars more to be as efficient.
+1 for a test with Tick Performance Towmax cams - I wish I could see some curves on the dyno and see if I'd like it for a DD ls swap or not
Would be interesting to see how they stack up to summits 8720 in those combos.
Would be interesting to see these compared to the Summit Pro LS
I mentioned the other day about the 2 cams side by side I just wanted to see the comparison of the 2 on a 5.3 setup on the same same dyno graph only reason I ask is I noticed the 5.3 tests had less bottom end dip. Again thank u for your time and replays your a great dude and very god dammn smart. North Maine Steve
I DON'T HAVE THEM BOTH (NOTTHE SAME DAY) ON THE SAME 5.3L
Richard, I would love to see a buildup on the old Toyota 22R. Great little motors, hard to kill them.
Yooo Richard! Haha great vid bro!
You could always check the valve clearance and see if you could advance the best a few degrees. Best Intake is probably closing later .
Sweet I think he did well only one video and your testing he sold like 375 or 475 of those buggers in under a month seems like he had great success selling them
For a street car or truck that torque curve the mid range power from 3000-4700rpm is very useable in stoplight banzai where stout track gears and rpms are not as useable that is why Truck Norris is a good street cam.
Wish I could have seen the last bit on the comparison on side by side dyno graph on the 5.3 like u did on the 5.7 side by side Norris vs. Best dyno sheet just wanted to see the 2 on graph w the 5.3 where the 5.3 had differnt sweeps than the 5.7 especially down low
GLORIOUS!
Would be nice to have a part number on the best cam
Thanks Richard, sloppy might sound good but, technology wins on the dyno.
Good job!! 👍
Would love to see a video on different types on fuel on a stock engine 91octane vs e85 vs m1 methanol
Just got off work it’s time to figure out what cam to put in my truck
Oh boy this is great info
Yay can't wait
Sorry I see the side by side I take back my other comment great video Richard goid work dude
Sloppy best vs Elgin 1840p 🤔 judging by this curve with more lobe separation and what not and the same or .005 more lift the sloppy stage 2 would prob flow a little better up top correct? The two seem pretty comparable. Def solid contenders for decent prices
Cam results are awesome but. What workouts are you doing Richard .
Love the video, do you think you'll ever run out of ideas 💡 and have you ever thought of experimenting with a Toyota 1UZ FE?
Maybe one day!
Its right there in the name!!
Looks like header diameter and full exhaust seems to promote better exhaust flow due to superior scavenging of the exhaust gasses at a higher velocity ??
But meant to say can you tell me what valve springs and push rods to run w the sloppy best cam. .600 behive springs? Stock push rod length? And what I recommend for upgraded brand push rods and preferred brand of valve spring you like to run on 5.3 L33 motor
compare the torque and power curves of the 54-454-11, if you gotta converter it anyway why not make all the power
I wonder what the comparison would be on that ls1 with truck Norris cam between two sets of heads? One would be 862s with bigger valves vs 243s milled to achieve the same CR as the 862s?
Sloppy best and Truck Norris are some badass truck cams!
Did you have the direct comparison on the 5.3? I would think that would be the most common setup.
if you took the sloppy cam an changed the evo to a later number it would be just like the norris cam..a early evo moves the tq an hp curve up. meaning it will carry power up higher. a later evo means more tq down low.its all about controlling the cylinder pressure for where you want it . i suggest people learn valve events an dont look at duration. duration is a by product from your valve events.😉
Recently discovered your channel. Love it.
I’m swapping in a 5.3 Ls in my “race car” What would you suggest for an Ultra 4 race car(mix of hardcore rock crawling and desert racing)? It weighs about 3800 lbs and has a stick shift.
TN
I'm waiting for the Bruce Flee cam.
So just any old .600 lift behive springs and stock length push rods? Do u recommend the trunion upgrade on the rocker arms with either of these 2 cams?
Can we see a video of the BYR Torque Cam in a stock 6.0???
So on a LQ9 with ported (not cnc) 243s and TBSS in a gmt800 with factory 3.73s... The 6L should eat up some stall tp be able to run factory converter? I was thinking at most, throwing in a 4.2 converter since it'll bump up stall speed a couple hundred rpms. I really like these cams that look small on paper, but make bigger #s than expected. I just freshened up my top end on my 98 WS6 t56 car that i built with everything that makes a C5Z a Z06 over base C5 but with original FAST 78mm. Full exh n bolt ons with slightly conservative tune on dyno jet made 392whp and 386wtq. Yes, has 4.10s also.... But when I re-did top end thx to original timing chain snapping at 7k while racing, i ported my 243s and used the SDPC LS6 Power Max Plus cam as I wanted something wee bigger but still can DD and beat the crap out of it like with LS6 combo. And just being a 220/222 with .570 lift on both sides and 112+2 LSA... It's so much more of a cam than I expected! So for 1, it was $239 shipped when I bought it. And 2, WOW!!! Love every bit. Chop is nice, but not too much. Haven't retuned it yet and runs great. Not perfect, but afr not out to lunch either. I have taken it to 7k several times without skipping a beat. But yeah, it feels like a what stg3 cams were 15 yrs ago!!
I'd love to see some LS6 vs SDPC cams. They have 2 different LS6 versions. The other is like the one, but intake dur is down at 204 vs other at 220. Which I bought originally for the LQ9 build for my 04 Tahoe!
Thank you!!
Very interesting results! Upon recommendation from Summit, I just got a Summit 8708 cam for my 5.3L swap... I'm wondering how it'll do in terms of numbers compared to more mainstream grinds like these. Maybe the smaller Summit lineup, including the 8708, is a test you could do someday? Keep up the good work!
That cam is way bigger then both these camshafts by a lot
Terrific stuff Richard. First time I've seen a cam with solid top end stay equal or better to stock all the way to 2000 rpm. Even on a stock converter that Chuck Norris looks fantastic.
it was impressive
Be a good idea to consider cost for these cams. Aint nuthin beating the man
Exactly I have said this to chopppacobra beat TN in another video Texas speed has Black Friday sales for cam kits price should always be a factor
I put this cam in my 2007 gmc 3500 with 6.0 and 4L80E. The engine is out at the moment and I’m wondering if there is a better torque converter to run or is my stock converter optimal?
I’m putting this cam in an LQ4 with 862 heads, should be a good runner.
Which cam are you using?
I'd like to see the truck Norris vs the Texas speed 220R
Thanks! Getting ready to swap my stock turbo 4.8, for a 5.3 with TN and the same turbo setup, curious to see how much the turbo responds differently.
That's a waste of time 4.8 and 5.3 use the same block only difference is a 5.3 has a long stroke and the 4.8 has a short stroke.
Awesome info as always! I just picked up a '15 Caprice with the L77 in it. All aluminum 6.0 based on the L76 in the GTOs. I'm wanting to find a stout cam that gives me a healthy bump in torque and HP but still functions with a converter. How well do you think the Truck Norris would perform? Car weighs about 4,000-4,200 lbs and has a 6l80e.
IT WORKS WELL
I would love to see you test & review the Scoggin Dickey LS6 Powermax & Powermax PLUS cam. I just put a Powermax in my 5.3 & I'm very happy with it.
if you are happy-it's a win
@@richardholdener1727 I just realized the other day you were on Fastest Car. I watched it twice before but never noticed you before the last time! 😆
Sloppy best cam price is unbeatable tho
I’m interested in the chop of the chuck
Revisting this, I put a Texas Speed CHOPacabra cam in my LQ4 with 862 heads. Originally I wanted the BTR TN, but got a great deal on cam and springs. I'm not really pleased with the lack of power. It drives great andsounds good, but feels like it's down 20-25 RW from where it should be. I am going to replace my converter first, because it was doing weird stuff on the dyno. If it doesn't seem any better after ruling that out - it's time for a change. I have a nice set of 799s done by Advanced Induction, and a Sloppy Best Cam. I'm leaning towards swapping those on after the converter to get what I want out of this daily driven combo.
that TS cam should be a significant jump in power over any stock cam-I suspect tune
I’m gonna say tuning if your tuner can’t get drivability down try another tuner choppacobra is a great cam choice
Man I would really love to see a comparison between the truck Norris and the summit 8720 cams. I'm m building a lq4 with ported 706 heads for a humvee ls swap
Wow I’m actually doing a lq9 swap for my h2 hummer bros
Awesome video Richard, what's the part number for the sloppy best cam? I'm only finding the ss2
talk to Matt at sloppy
Scott Clark told me you’re wrong and the sloppy cam has issues on their spintron with multiple cylinder pressure monitors. 😂
Richard wish you would have done 243 heads on the 5.7 when compariing the Truck Norris/SS1 cams. Its what im building currently.
same thing
I always notice a dip in the curve at load in.
Is that a function of dyno loading?
Would you do a ford fe cam test including idle quality? For the fe guy’s
Can someone explain the origins of the sloppy thing?
Please and thank you ☺️
So this is random but I just saw some pictures of a hot rod with a long runner Chrysler cross ram intake manifold....Has anyone modified one for sequential fuel injection? Also I noticed on the hot rod it placed the carburetor's over the top of the header's...Heat rise's so heat soak is an obvious issue on those, my idea to combat that was to insulate the intake and use heat reflecting gold tape over that...and also ceramic coating the header's and perhaps also header wrap near the flange under where the carburetor's sit...
Also don't know if there is aftermarket reproductions of the long cross ram to play with...would hate to cut into an original to try it...was hoping someone tried these ideas cause I just wanna see it.
Will Pac 1218 springs work w sloppy best?
Stock push rod length??
Dude thank u for your replays I feel very lucky to have u personally respond to my rookie/ learning questions
never tried pac 1218s
how about this test vs Crane and Competition Cams?
How do the BTR truck cams compare to the summit truck cams? Summit advertise intake valve closing timing to make low end torque. Have you tested those Richard Holdner?
I have tested a few Summit cams-not their truck cams
I would like to see some testing done on Gpi products especially their ss4 nfc cam
THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR CAMS DO-THEY DO GOOD STUFF
Right on
Lets also factor in the price.... The "best" cam is much better bang for the buck.
Any input thinking of putting a set of 862s and doing the truck Norris cam on a 6.0 2500hd
Just to help out with towing
should work well
Hey Richard I belive u said this answer but don't remember will the sloppy best have a more aggressive or louder / lopier idle note than the norris camshaft I love that choppy idle!
yes it will
Richard, with all your cam swap experience what's your opinion on using new flat tappet hydraulic lifters with a low mileage used camshaft? I'm swapping my guts into a different engine and unfortunately I mixed up the lifter orientation.
fine
Richard just looked at the new cam from tsp the " chopocabra" 214/222 .550/.550 108 LSA. Shameful on there part I feel like they took all of Brian toilets hard work and research made a camshaft almost identical to the norris shaft and named it somthing intriguing to some folks that may for for a name rather than a cam spec . just wanted to bring this to your attention maybe try a test on the "chopocabra" see if the results are similar to the norris cam swap results
North Maine Steve
When are you going to run this cam with a turbo set up?
