We’re all gonna miss McCoy. He and Briscoe were the faces of Law & Order
💯
@@candaceferguson8325100
Don’t forget Ed Green and Van Buren, another pair of great characters.
One face on each side
@@Aggression-hc3yp they also were amazing characters to bee honest I liked most cops in the law and order universe and da in the series each of them were great actors and even I liked some lawyers Arthur/ dwarkin /
I can't believe his story is over after 30 years. Truly a legend in the L&O series!
The last one from the original L&O
@corduerorose9747 He wasn't on the original L&O - Ben Stone was the original ADA and Adam Schiff was the original DA.
@@jaxcoss5790actually, there was one DA before Adam Schiff. In the very first law and order episode… Called everybody’s favorite bagman… Or something like that… There was a different DA for that one episode.
@@andrewdutton3831Wasn't Fred Thompson the DA for awhile as well?
@@chrisg8767he was, but much later. It was Schiff, Nora Lewin (Dianne Wiest), and then Arthur Branch (Thompson).😊
In the criminal justice system the people are represented by two separate, yet equally important people: Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston.
The legends in getting it 'dun-dun'.
bravo dude...bravo!!!
couldn’t have said it better
Those two are legends
…these are there stories. Doink doink
This is how you do a proper sendoff. My favorite part? One last trick up his sleeve, stepping down so the governor has to replace him thereby taking away the mayors power play. One last McCoy masterpiece.
After he had taken down a preceding corrupt govrrnor!
I’m just surprised and relieved that he took over the case himself. Seeing him in court is like an old cowboy putting on the gun belt one more time, knowing he has one more fight left in him. And if he is to be gone, that was the one he’ll hang his hat on.
And I agree, his resignation was a great move giving the governor (not the mayor) the power to choose his successor.
McCoy did a great service for New York and the office, but, it's time for him to start a new chapter of his life, and see there's more to life besides the justice system.
Just think about this: when Jack first joined the show, Bill Clinton was president. The Twin Towers were still standing. The Soviet Union had just collapsed. And the video game consoles being sold in stores were the Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis. Let that sink in.
Believe me, I know. I remember it being on, and even though my family was going through a divorce, and my mom was forced to work 2 jobs, she and I still watched Law and Order together.
When the turn of the millennium and with 2005 year of L&O feeling a little stale, we eventually turned to Boston Legal.
Damn it’s been that long !!!
Wow, time passes. Who knew.
@@geoffwilliams4478 Boston Legal was an amazing show, literally one of the greatest spinofs of all time. Definition of lightning in a bottle
WTF does that sink want this time.
Farewell Jack McCoy. One of the best characters from the original Law and Order.
One of the best at violating people's rights!
He WAS known to cite the old line that an American prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and then to prove it was a valid metaphor. Pretty sure at least once McCoy also did that one most disgusting thing that tv cops and prosecutors do, and maybe real ones [I'd be curious], which is joke darkly among themselves about some convict getting raped in prison, and sometimes say it in front of some suspect as a threat. @@mvprime8
@@mvprime8yup 😂😂 💯🔥
This was a WONDERFUL SEND OFF to the man, the myth, and the legend! ❤
It’s been 3 entire decade. Been one hell of a ride.
Farewell, Sam Waterston, your character deserve it.
The iconic Jack McCoy has left the courtroom and we are all better for it. The fact he resigned during his tenure forces the Governor to replace him, good move, and he goes out in class the way he tried all his cases.
Honestly, that has got to be one of the slyest moves in Law and Order in a long time.
@@henrypeters5291 It was sly but he looked out for his ADAs, it showed class !
@@RobertPagano226 I meant sly in a good way. McCoy realized he could not win, but he figured out a way to checkmate the mayor at least for the time being.
@@henrypeters5291 I know you meant it the way you wrote it, all good, and I think we both agree, Jack, in the end, looked out for his attorneys.
Question is what kind of person will the governor choose
There went the last remaining character from the original run of _Law & Order._
Godspeed, John James McCoy.
The Real McCoy!
He wasn’t an original character he didn’t show up until season 5. He is one of the oldest characters but he’s not original.
His not original but came from the original. The last original was steven hill the first DA. Wonder if McCoy ‘s daughter will return despite his departure
@165 No.... ADA Ben Stone was the original lead ADA on Law & Order. He was played by Michael Moriarty and Richard Brooke played his 2nd chair ADA Paul Robinette... Waterstone told over after ADA Stone resigned because one of his ADA and a witness are killed because of his tactic to get a conviction..
@@rony41165 nope not the da in ep 1 different actor and character, pretty sure Mike logen was the last oringal character to leave
Detective Lennie Briscoe and EADA Jack McCoy are forever the cornerstones of Law & Order…rest easy, Jerry, and Godspeed, Sam! Thank you both for one hell of an incredible ride! 🥹🙏🏻♥️
more likely ben stone, greevey, logan, briscoe, and kincaid.
Agreed. Add Logan, Kincaid and Van Buren.
This episode broke my heart and also held a mirror to my face to show me just how OLD I AM! I remember when "Jack McCoy" was introduced into the show - because I've watched it from DAY 1! Hell, during my "I want to be an actor" days back in my 20s, I even APPEARED on an episode as a Juror in Season 1 - The episode was called The Blue Wall. No lines - just a juror! And, now - NOT being an actor - I'm actually saying goodbye to one of the key characters that kept this show going! It's certainly not going to be the same without him!!
So true! I have grown from my late 40's to now enjoying the never wavering character of this actor in one of the most iconic and resilient shows on TV. To say they don't make them like this anymore would be a mild exaggeration!
Its truly sad that Jack had to resign so he could keep the mayor from striking back . Unlike Lennie briscoe who retired. Not so sad
I was recently called for jury selection for the first time. I had never been in a court room before, and I only had my experiences watching shows like Law & Order to go on for what a juror does and how to act in a courtroom. So thank you for your little contribution to my life.
I wasn't selected for the jury.
End of an era. Jack McCoy was a true Law and Order legend.
100
It is been one hell a ride. Thanks , Jack McCoy....
"It's been a hell of a ride."
So it has, Mr. Waterson. So it has.
Watching all original law and order episodes growing up, this episode was a tearjerker. JAck McCoy was the the OG of the entire franchise!
Actually Sam came in after the first one ADA Stone left after season 1.
Actually, Jack joined in Season 5. Nonetheless, he is still the oldest cast member still active in the franchise up until this episode. @@RobertPagano226
@@RobertPagano226 Stone did not leave after the 1st season. George Dzundza as one of the police officers did. I believe Stone left sometime in season 3.

The end of an era.
Loved watching the first Law & Orders. Use to watch them with my grandmother. Will definitely miss Jack McKoy,but loved seeing him go out still fighting like he did in the beginning.
My grandma introduced me to the show also. Ill always thank her for that. Thanks for sharing.
Am I the only one who was immediately reminded of Adam Schiff as I listened to McCoy throughout this scene? That voice.....DAYAMM did that take me back!
McCoy left on his own terms doing what he loves the most-trying cases in a court of law. And resigning was a brilliant strategic move basically giving the Mayor the ultimate middle finger.
Jack McCoy will always be one of those unforgettable television characters and I could not have imagined anyone other than Mr. Waterston bringing him to life. Thank you and fare thee well.
👋🔥💛🧡❤️💋💯
This definitely feels like the end of an era (or an eon). Congratulations to Mr. Waterston on an excellent, amazing run!❤️
First, the David McCallum tribute episode on NCIS, then Sam Waterston's farewell in Law and Order. This week has been an emotional watershed moment for procedural television.
Nearly made you shed a tear. My man went out like a champ going back to the courtroom, though, and poured that last drink like he knew he was big dawg😂😌👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you, Sam!
There is an old saying in my native New Zealand .. ''Integrity is much like a cliff face, sooner or later it will get washed away and no one will remember what it once was''. Luckily for all the fans of this show, including myself, Jack McCoy will always be the face of integrity in an often unruly world of law v disorder.
💪🏾🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴
Lenny and Jack are the two faces of Law and Order. It's officially the end of an era.
And they’re not even originals
Fred Thompson
The new DA has got shoes the size of asteroids to fill.
This show has been on since I was in my 30s. I am 57 now. Amazing
What a good chacter he played ❤ DA McCoy ❤
Noooo!!!😢😮 He's one of the greatest characters of all times. Will miss him so much.
We have been the ups and downs of not only the New York District Attorneys 'office Jack McCoy's life and career. Mr. Waterston, we love you. God bless You and Your Family!! Thanks for the most enjoyable, surprising, unexpected he'll of a ride!! You will indeed be nissed but never far from our hearts or minds.❤❤❤❤
Jack McCoy is the heart and soul of the Law & Order series. It will never be the same without him 😢
Here's to you Sam Waterston (Jack McCoy). Like you said in your own words: "It's been a hell of a ride."
Thanks for the many years of unforgettable acting - you brought the character to life and made McCoy real. I have been watching L & O for years and thankfully, here in the UK, we have a daytime channel that shows five episodes every day. Right now, Michael Moriarty's character, Ben Stone, has just left (he was also great) and we have just started the era of Jack McCoy with Logan and Briscoe and each episode is so well-plotted and acted that it's like watching for the first time, no matter how many times you have watched it.
We will miss Mccoy but he and briscoe were the faces of Law and order that will be in our memories forever. Thiss is a proper send off for mccoy after 30 something years. What a legend!
WOW!!!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 THIS MAN HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 1991. THAT IS A LONG RUN. CHEERS🎉🎉🍾🍾🍾🎊🎊
Thank you jack for every amazing episode that you were in
I already miss him 💔😢
miss you mr. MCcoy the best classic Law and order
he is the best
I can’t believe it’s been thirty years going to miss you Sam waterson and yes it was one hell of a ride.I wish you all the best you rock love you
Sam Waterston has always been one of my favorite actors, both on L&O plus his voice over for "The Civil War". I could (and have) binge watch the original series continually...
Thanks for the memories Sam!
Thank you, DA Jack McCoy for all these years, you inspire me to have a career in law.
Having watched every single episode (as many have), it was an emotional send off for the great Sam Waterston. You will be missed. Thank you for the memories.
We'll miss you, Mr. McCoy! You always be the best staple of Law & Order. Sam Waterston is legendary.
A hell of a ride, Jack.
Thank you, Sam, for coming back for the revival & best of luck going forward in your career.
Gonna miss McCoy 😢 I grew up watching him and he is my favorite. Love him ❤a hell of a ride
Happy trails, McCoy. VanBuren and Briscoe were the faces of the Law, and you were the face of Order in the court. Law and Order won't be the same without you. 💔
It's funny that after the end of season 4, we were wondering what would happen after Michael Moriarty after he got fired. Then Sam Waterson came in season 5, and the rest is history. You'll be missed. The actor who played the mayor is likely to return to clash with the new D.A
Thank you Jack McCoy/Sam Waterson for your service in the L&O universe.🥺🥺🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
Never thought I would see the day
Nice scene but I had to laugh recalling that this show takes place in NY, “the governor can appoint someone with integrity”… 😆😂🤣
It could be worse; it could be Florida.
Well, Mariska is poised to make a run at beating his record. Great series. Not too much violence. No weird background/ synthesizer or whatever that effect music was. Good to see Jesse Martin landed on his feet with his show.
Thank you for all your years of service
Farewell, Jack McCoy! You will always be one of the best Law & Order characters to us.
The essence of Law and Order.
It HAS been a hell of a ride; Waterston has done well - this was an early example of the "ensemble" casting which American TV was slow to pick up (but had now perfected with shows such as the various incarnations of "NCIS").. Well done, Sam - and we thank you. UK watchers.
My eyes are just sweaty
Best Wishes, Mr, Waterston/ Jack will be missed !
'the governor will be able to appoint someone new, someone with integrity.' lol, okay, jan.
The last salute of a legend, may the ground beneath your feet always be firm and green, Jack.

Wow. I havent seen L&O for many years. Seing Jack this old came as quite a shock. I'd never seen him with silver hair. Wow.
i cried. i’ll miss sam so much
Thank you Mr.Waterston, I guess 80-something years of age is a good time to call it quits. You made one of the most memorable characters in L&O.
His line reminds me of Augustus McCrae’s last lines “It’s been quite a party!”
Two legends going out in their own way! 🥹
In over 40 years of watching tv shows, no one character comes before Jack McCoy, a big thanks to Sam Waterston for bringing such a great character to life.
i'm both in shock and I feel like crying truly the end of era
Sam Waterston aka Jack McCoy is the GOAT of the "ORDER" side of Law & Order!!!👏🎊🎉🎈🎆
MCCOY IS A LEGEND!!!
This reminded me of the Season 4 finale, "Old Friends," where it was Ben Stone's last episode. In the final scene of that ep, Stone resigns in front of Adam Schiff. The two then say goodbye. Ironically, the next episode would be Sam's first of the series, the Season 5 opener, "Second Opinion."
Okay I can agree with that but I started law school because of this show and Paul Robinette was my inspiration!!!!
Haven't felt this from L&O since the last episode of Det. Briscoe.
It has been Mr Mc Coy thanks so much 🔥💪🏾🔥
It’s been a HELL of a ride.
Yes Jack it has been one hell of a ride and you will be dearly missed 😢by me and so many others, but with that being said I wish you one hell of a happy retirement. L&O will not be the same without you.
This is truly an end of an Era. Goodbye Jack
Thank you Sam, AKA: DA NcCoy for 30 years of entertainment , I wish you were the one in the Governors seat in New York
I hope he went to look for Connie and they finally open their own law firm “McCoy & Rubirosa: Nobody is Too guilty”
My best friend and I made a point of watching this episode together. We agreed that they gave a fine sent off to both the actor and the character.
Jack McCoy wasn't perfect. He made mistakes, he sometimes misjudged a person or situation. But he was, indeed a man of integrity who always did his best, which was generally more than good enough. If only every DA was like him! And Sam Waterston played him to perfection. For me, McCoy, Briscoe and Logan were the holy trinity of Original Recipe Law & Order.
McCoy as a character is one that I will always remember. Watching Law and Order as a young boy to now as a young man, this ending hits pretty hard but is a good ending with McCoy knowing the game and knowing how to preserve the integrity of office he inherited from his former mentors at the beginning of the series.
And Sam Waterston is just one hell of an actor.
Sam Waterston.. Jack McCoy.. legends. Thank you for everything we will miss you!!❤
It's almost hard to picture Law and Order without Sam Waterston given he's been on the show in one form or another for a long time.
It sure has been a wild one Mister McCoy. Thanks for being true to your principles, and a teacher to the rest of us who grew up in the 90s, til today.
I'm feeling emotional after watching that. I watched him in that roll all of my adult life. I wish him all the best! ❤
It has been indeed one hell of a ride and one that has been an honor and a pleasure to join! 😁💯🔥😉👍
Lol that the clip is just called…”McCoy resigns” 😂
I'm truly going to miss you Jack you were the best D.A ever on this show I hope you at leat come back a
few times you will really be missed very mych.
Legendary Jack McCoy👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I’ve been so busy and had a hard time sitting still to watch this episode. But I finally got the chance to watch today. What a fabulous last episode for the great Jack McCoy. One of the best characters on television. Sam gave this character everything he’s got. So sad to see him leave but so glad we had him in this role for so many years. One of a kind. ❤
McCoy was there when Chris North was exiled from the show at the end of Season 5, for daring to think he was the MC.
"Toasting To Integrity"
People shouldn't forget he was in one great movies and saddest The Killing Fields
I bet Legal Eagle is crying in his pillow when he saw this
Sam Waterston as Jack McCoy is one of the five greatest performances in the history of television drama, and he managed it all in 400 episodes, Just incredible…
Jack Mc Coy you are the best. I will miss you a lot. I was very happy, when I heard you were coming back to Law And Order. It won't be the same. 😢❤
I got into the original Law and Order with it's old episodes and I can say McCoy is one of my favorite characters of all time, especially in a TV series. He is a character that is by the book and sticks to his morals, and code when it comes to the law and how it works. His character has more conviction than most Ive known in a TV show.
Jack went out the way he came in…. With a win
Law and Order isn't going to be the same without Sam Waterson. 🎥🎥🎥🎥📽️📺🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚑🚑🚒🚒🚄🚄🚄🗽I'm going to miss seeing his name in the opening credits. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
Thanks for all amazing moments in every trial... Jhon Jack McCOY..dun duuunnnnn
Why are my eyes watery?...
It is hard enough to watch Jack leave, it was even harder to listen to Sam's speech to the crew and cast, later. Not as Jack, but as himself. The emotion you see on Jack's face, isn't acting. It's Sam knowing its ending.
Thank you Sam, for 30 years of awesome TV. You will be missed from L+O but never forgotten.
