He is great, but it isn’t like he is talking about some stupid topic, our history (English history) is incredible especially to the English people, and he’s also talking about one of its greatest kings and one of the greatest periods of time that helped set the stage for in my opinion the most interesting period in our history the wars of the Roses

Dan Jones only made a couple quick visits to the USA to promote this book. For that, I hated missing him in St. Louis in OCT 2024. Hope to meet him soon. Wonderful historian. Tells the histories with such passion and energy. I’m on listen #4 of Henry V.

Excellent point about the possibility /probability that Henry V was not scarred by the arrow injury at Shrewsbury. That has been my reading of the events of 1403 for a considerable time, and very good to hear Dan Jones make just the same arguments! I look forward to reading the book.

Jones points out that Henry was "lucky", in that Henry died in his prime. Richard had a sort of downward spiral after the Third Crusade. Also, being a great general/warrior isn't EVERYTHING. I say that as a HUGE Lionheart fan.

I think for the purpose of objective historical analysis we should not equate authorizing a translation of the Bible with “rewriting it”. Further, because the incendiary footnotes of the Geneva Bible could not possibly have been part of the original Holy writings, removing those , would not necessarily be changing religion to suit rulership.

Henry 5 was the King who lost all but about 7 square miles of the English possessions in France plus he died in that losing campaign. And left a baby son to b come king. Who was crowned at 6 months old.
The English historians glorify 3 battles Henry 5 won. But he lost the war Nothing great about 1. Losing a war. 2 Losing the vast English possessions in France Henry’s losing the war led to vast economic problems in England. All those destitute unpaid soldiers coming home. Plus all the English settlers in the former English territories in France. This is just English chauvinism forget we lost the Hundred Years’ War. But we win 3 battles

Well, to be fair, he won Agincourt, had trouble taking Normandy (the siege of Rouen, Domfront were awful), his brother lost a battle and life against a French and Scottish army, was greatly helped by the conflict with Burgundy, made and end to the _Great Schism_ , was recognised by the _Treaty of Troyes_ as heir and regent of France. He could have become one of the most important figures in Europe, but illness and the Dauphin's resilience got the better of him.

He was French through and through didn't speak English spent all of about 6months of his time as king on these shores, rest of time spent crusading or in france. Not even a great warrior as got himself killed for no reason other than to boast his ego by trying to take a non-strategic castle. Yeah a great warrior King of England 😂
