- In this video, we showcase a unique project that combines the worlds of drones and ham radio. We take a Baofeng handheld ham radio and mount it on a DJI drone, creating a flying repeater that can extend the range of your radio signal. We discuss the design and development of the project, including the 3D printed materials used to create the custom mount. We also demonstrate the functionality of the repeater in action, highlighting its potential uses for ham radio enthusiasts and drone pilots alike. Don't miss this exciting glimpse into the creative potential of combining technologies.
I’ll be sharing more details and 3d printables in the next video.

That's a clever idea. I have a extra class ham license and still haven't made a contact but I am more interested in technical things like this
You might be able to take down the weight quite a bit by using two SA818 modules instead of full handhelds. It might give you some more configuration options as well.
For weight reduction, you might try Argent Systems ADS-SR1 Repeater system. It only uses one radio and has less wt.
Great project here guys. Glad I found this video. I hope there’s a part two.
We use something like this at my work. A tethered Hoverfly VHA. We use it on a TSM MANET network
Do you have a part list? We've been experimenting with a single retevis handheld with crossband repeater functionality, in order to meet some communication requirements for a BVLOS flight we're waivered for. It's been soso - 5km out and back with some flat land tests, but not as successful in our real test area. - we want to explore DMR in the future - can you broadcast in vhf only or uhf only in your setup?
Where's part 2 my guy? Subscribed.
A for your effort!
Having done this I used a TYT UV8000E single radio that has built in crossband repeater, think it was about 260 grams, air 2s dji, used a drop assembly for attachment from amazon,, flight time was degraded to about 15 minutes,, also a note antennas need to be vertical or your gonna lose 30db of signal,,, great work tho,, 73s
If you haven't been using RC helictopers to deposit repeaters around your neighborhood for the last thirty years are you even a pirate? It's still cheaper than getting a license.
I know that was going to happen You gotta have a big drone To Pick them Up off the ground.
Deconstruct the radios and it should make the at least 25% lighter.
I'm diving into this right now. I'm working on breaking the radios down to the PCB level and removing all unnecessary components.
still need average distance between two radio to works properly
Awesome... Just don't put that shitty music in the background next time.
