Thank you so much for sharing this! Personally I thought the ham license test was harder than the drone license test....for both you definitely need to study.

I was wondering what advantage or use would it be to use my amateur license to fly my DJI mini 2 or any drone?

It really only comes into play if you plan to build your own drone. Running an off-the-shelf drone, like DJI or Autel, won't use your license.

I'm an Extra Class Ham (AF7i) and have a DJI Avata but am interested in building some FPV drones My QTH is Idaho Mts and fly in canyon's to deal with so more power would be good. I have no QRM problems . Trouble is I know next to know nothing on the gear. Whos the Ham Radio Outlet or maybe the HeathKit of the 21st century. I looked on UA-cam for build videos and they look easy. I've built a SB220 and ran a kilowatt I ran 500 Watts on 2Meters once but it was hard on the transistors once but was more of a DX'er but some UHF and a few C and Ku band 2-way satellite systems. Only on 2M any more. I am part 107 FAA. Can I put my Call sign on drones that I use for recreationally? Just subscribed.

All I did was edit one of the free text fields in the goggles for my call. As far as builds, you can use the messaging function on GetFPV to chat with someone who can help.

I have DJI Goggles2 . Can I do that with them. Can't seem to find out how to do that in the manual or on the screen? TNX AF7I@@kd9nrt

@@tomperry2896 DJI has their firmware locked down. You can't do it, unless the community finds a work around.

Eek. I don't understand why you would go that high in the bands. 900mhz is too high, let alone 2.4 or 5.4ghz. If one transmits 1 watt of power through a 400mhz transmitter, you have to transmit 8watts to get the same signal to the receiver at 2.4ghz. 900 would be in the middle. The free space loss is pretty bad. Sure, the 70cm (400mhz) wavelength is a bit bigger, and the antenna size might be a bit of a compromise. Yet if you stay in the 70cm range, the radio equipment is readily available. I use my ham radio gear when playing with the drones. I have the M2 Leo pack yagi's, on a Yeasu 5500dc rotor I use for satellite communication. This is fed into the IC9700 which is my transmitter for the drones as well. I figure if I can bounce off the sats 900miles away, it would work perfectly for this.

What type of transmission to Use? Some type of Digital FM I guess? I haven't be active on HR for a few years. But FPV has renewed my interests. My newest rig is an Kenwood 830. Is there a good source for technical info, antenna design etc. something like QST for drone Hams? Do drone supply stores have have gear that works on ham bands? Someone mentioned they already use the ham bands so is easily modifiable Do you get them at a drone store or at a place like HRO? been off the air except for a few years so I need all the info I can get.
