    Oh my gosh. Finally!! Thank you! Nobody ever talks about the routine build up and how you approach that. I find myself just trying them here and there and never progressing. So many lightbulb moments here. I can only do 4-5 floor pushups and it made me realize how ineffective my training regimen has been. I copied all the numbers down and it's a whole new work ethic for this goal starting tonight.
    Someone ask me how I'm doing a year or 2 from this comment. I don't know if I'll have the press to handstand yet (I'm old and not great balance) but I will have 3 sets of 10 on the boxes by then! :)

    Man this is just the most perfect timing ever. Literally just today did I try out freestanding HSPU. Absolutely everything said in this video is 100% true, at least according to my experience.
    So I trained for freestanding handstand around april of this year, long story short I did progress but very little, this was due to lack of strength. So from april until one week ago I was purely training BTW HSPU, my reps were going up steadily, so like a month and a half ago or so, I sued paralletes for more depth, and again, got stronger.
    One week ago I tried balancing with the wall, which felt surprisingly easy when compared to when I trained for it back in april, I kept practicing with the wall for a week until just now.
    Today I decided to try completely freestanding and I got amazing results, got many 20sec holds and got a few HSPU, all this thanks to the strength focused training. I'm 16 btw.
    TLDR: Listen to the SM family, they know what they're talking about. Best of the wishes everybody!

    Anyone struggle with the balance part aspect of it. My advice to your all is to learn to not only keep the PPT=Neutral But also the shoulders ribcage somehow neutral. I find that stretching out increasing shoulder flexion elevation makes the balance aspect easier

    As always great video gabo♥️
    Also can you tell which grip i should use in my tuck planche, I can hold tuck planche for almost 20 sec with good form but still confused which grip should i use 90° grip , 45° grip or 0° grip(which we normally do while push-ups) in your planche routine video you mentioned to use either 45° grip or 90° grip but can i use 0° grip, is it bad for wrist health or for full planche🙃

    • @SaturnoMovement
      @SaturnoMovement  Рік тому

      That's a great question Saurabh. If your wrist mobility allows it, and you feel no pain or discomfort while using the 0 degree grip, by all means go for it. The 0 degree grip will strain the wrists a bit more than the 45 degree or the 90 degree. We recommend using the 45 degree since it seems to work best for the majority of people. However, if you feel no pain with the 0 degree position, you can do that one to further strengthen and condition your wrists for more range of motion. - Gala

    • @Bartje2002
      @Bartje2002 Рік тому

      But with 0° grip, make sure to make the bicep aim forward. I didn't do that at first and I got tennis elbow. Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but I hope you won't have the same problem

    I can do freestanding HSPU head to floor several reps in a clean from after working a lot on It,now I am getting my HSPU deeper using paralettes and I want to get the 90 degree push Up, So a Why You cant 90 degree push Up would be nice 😃
    Fun fact: You are right that CTW is almost as hard as freestanding, because I train CTW, and the Max reps I have done CTW and freestanding are the same:8, however It might be more on CTW cause I dont try to do Max on them being fresh since a long time

    Since im so addicted to overhead pressing generally, is there a way i could combine free hspu, military press and back to wall hspu?

    • @SaturnoMovement
      @SaturnoMovement  Рік тому

      Since I would see free HSPU as a technique exercise, and more likely than not, balance is a major component in your execution, I wouldn't rely on free HSPU for strength/hypertrophy. With that being said, you can do free HSPU as a test to track your progress, and choose military presses and BTW HSPU as your main pushing exercise. An example can be doing free HSPU for a couple sets, until failure followed by 3 - 5 sets of military presses. Then do the same ( free HSPU for a couple sets until failure) followed by 3 - 5 sets of BTW HSPU. We hope this cleared the air :) - Gala

    I got to one point when I was able to do 5 CTW HSPU and was feeling great but couldn’t progress I stopped doing them and now I can do maybe 2.
    So I’m going to start with 8’sets of 1, 2x a week. How fast should I aim to
    Progress? What’s great, good, okey, or bad?
    Is it realistic to think that I can add reps every week?

      Yo sup, i used to do 10 freestanding hspu(on the floor) with no arch just clean form reps, unfortunately i injured my wrist for about 4-5months so now i am building my strength again from 0(working on parallettes since my wrist still hurt me when i do things on the floor)
      What i used to do for freestanding to get to a point of doing 5x8reps (you can do the same for wall HSPU’s)
      I started with 3x3r, next workout i increase by 1 set so that’s progressive overload (4x3r) after that i increase to 5 sets of 3 reps and u can go to 6 sets of 3r (with like 2-3 min rest in between every set),after that i drop the nb of sets and increase reps by one so 3x4r and i do the same strategy to get to a point of doing 5x5r (5min rest between every set)
      At this point you have two ways either you go to 3x6r(thats what i did and continued my way up to 5x8r) or you can make the exercise harder, maybe play with the tempo or add weight, increase the rom… you have plenty of options u can do whatever you feel like doing/ after you make the exercise harder you start again from 2-3reps you build to 5x5 and then maybe make it even harder(i recommend to start with tempo hspu what i mean by that is that you hold the bottom position for 2-3sec before you push back up). i hope that will help achieve your goals🙏

    • @zacharyshort384
      @zacharyshort384 Рік тому

      I do HSPUs every single day. 1-2 sets. Set one is headstands [wall-assisted], and set two is using parallettes. If you want to progress I honestly think doing them more frequently is the best, but if you're on team longer rest days then absolutely consider adding a Kensui vest or paralletes :)
      I think progress is progress. What's ideal is that you're making progress.
      Not sure I could give an idea as to what's 'good' or 'impressive' in those terms. Personally I progress with the mentality that I am only competing against myself, and trying to beat my best records ^_^

    • @luffebassen
      @luffebassen Рік тому

      I have the same problem. You need to build up more shoulder power first. So work on some OHP with a bar or dumbbells. You need to work towards 80-90% of your body weight.

    • @zacharyshort384
      @zacharyshort384 Рік тому

      I did weighted Pike Pushups as a progression for HSPUs. I used my Kensui vest. I did not do this for all that long though!
      Here is the thing, man. If you can only do 1/4 of a single HSPU rep that's perfectly fine! Do 1/4 of a HSPU rep every day! If you're really pushing yourself each time you're going to make progress. Eventually that 1/4 is going to become 1 legit rep. Every time I have started doing HSPUs [say after long hiatus] I was unable to do a single rep. So every day I just did a partial HSPU until I got the strength to do one rep. The time it takes you to work up to one completed rep is probably the same time it will take you to go from 1 rep to 5 reps. Progress will happen quicker than you think if you're consistent. I do 1-2 sets every single day now. I started at 1/2 a rep and can do 15 today.

    • @zacharyshort384
      @zacharyshort384 Рік тому +1

      I do 1-2 sets of wall-assisted HSPUs every single day. One set is headstand, and if I do a second set it's using parallettes. I immediately follow these with a quick set of dumbbell lateral raises. No issues with this and am making consistent progress.
      If you're adding them to an existing workout plan that uses shoulder presses- e.g military press- just decide between the two which you'd rather be fresh with. Would it be easier to bail out with HSPUs versus dropping the dumbbells/bar?
      You could always consider doing one set to failure at the start of your program as a primer instead of adding a few sets ^_^

      Is this wall-assisted? I went from doing 1/2 of a single rep to being able to do 14 reps in just a couple months. I'm using the wall though. How did you break up those 10 sets? I chose to do wall-assisted HSPUs every day, but I only do 1-2 sets a day.
      I'd suggest instead of doing 10 sets of 2, you do X sets of 3 ;) Push yourself.

      @@zacharyshort384 Im pushing myself. I would have done 3 reps per set if i would be able to obviously :D Weird thing is that now im still not that better, i can do 4 reps per set, but it is the same as my free standing HSPU. How? Idk...

      @@draak88 Wasn't trying to imply you weren't, but you said your max was 3 :P So I just meant to space/break the sets so you can do your max each set. See if that helps..
      Have you attempted weighted or parallettes? I would see if you can do 1-2 reps that way. If you can then maybe spend a week or two doing generously spaced sets of max reps with weight or paralletes ^_^
