I am so pleased that a 'middle aged woman' is starring with an animal in the John Lewis 2022 advert and I'm still crying now. I'm 52 years old and have been alone since my boyfriend died from the 'Swine Flu' in 2010. I was diagnosed with Bipolar in 2015 and still my medication is yet to be sorted! However, I'm more alone now than I've ever been and just feel forgotten and not worthy of anyone's time or love. All of the time I want to die and not be alive and know 100% fact, that if it wasn't for my Westie 'Star', I would just give up and end it all. I always find hope in his eyes and the unconditional love this animal has for me, I have to carry on living. If all humans around the world, had just an ounce of unconditional love for other human beings, then this world of ours and every one in it would be living in a better, kinder world. Thank you John Lewis.

My gosh, I'm depressed now. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good video with lots of emotion and great visual story telling. My problem with this advert is that Christmas is meant to be the happiest time of the year, and we all deserve 2 months of happiness on TV. Since the turn of the decade, life has been miserable for all of us and I guess every time I see the shortened version of this commercial, I will feel bad for myself. I can feel that this Christmas isn't going to be good😢

I'm 65, adopted at birth, mentally abused until I was thrown out at 18, never had a christmas, any gifts were sold by my mother, any money she kept for herself, homeless most of my life, now disabled and unable to leave the house, no family, no friends. I don't know what its like to be loved. dirt poor all my life, 5 years ago, I took in a baby chinchilla, found abandoned in a house by workmen. He changed my life, he gave me a reason to live. If anything happened to him, I'd do anything for him. I dreamed of owning a parrot, but I didn't have a home, and there's no way I could afford one. The person who abandoned Buzz was evil and cruel, but I'm so glad they did, because he's everything to me. I think this SHOULD be the John Lewis Christmas advert, because after seeing this, the real one can only be a let down! This video is amazing!
This hit me really hard. I love the important message in it. This year will be my first Christmas with out my little dog Buddy. This advert shows just how much our pets mean to us.
I had to let my best friend Archie go this year. He has been at my side every day since I took him home. He was at my side when I married my wife, he was there to meet my son and protect him. I miss him so much, I would give anything just to have one more walk with him. I still don’t feel the same without him. It was a beautiful advert.

I lost the most wonderful cat two years ago, shortly before Christmas under similar circumstances (supervised walk outside with my pets and he bolted and was coming back at the same time as a truck. It's still really difficult, even though there are other animals in my life). I'm so glad the plot of this one didn't end in the same way my story did. I recognize so many of these feelings here and they're really beautifully done!

This has us all crying so much here. My 16yr old autistic daughters therapy cat looked identical to this kitten… she went missing on 4th August and there has been no sightings since. My daughters world has been turned upside down as she says ‘her best friend’ left her 😢

Pets out of the reach of most folk now as the Insurance rip- off industry means any treatment way off the scale expensive. Heart goes out to those now having to choose between food for their pet or food for themselves. In my experience they are prioritising pets💓

Sam, love your work but I think it would be better if you had used a dog, cats are very independent but dogs really pull at the heartstrings I speak as an owner of dog and cat. Loved the previous advert with the staffie reduced me to tears not so with this one.
Hi Catherine, thank you so much for your comment. Thank you, yes I spent a long time on my advert with my staffie, Charlie. I filmed this only a few weeks ago and it was quite rushed compared to my previous two adverts which I put more time and effort into. This year for me was really hectic and it came to October and I hadn't written a song or finalised a plot. I do have a good idea for next year though. Thanks for the continued support.

Loneliness is a terrible thing and it’s right to remind us. The song is poignant and beautiful. My worry is using a kitten at Christmas, knowing how many pets get abandoned straight after Christmas.
As a Brit in Australia I am very impressed by this advertisement. It is a very sad subject but it is being brought to attention which is fabulous. Loneliness does not seem to be addressed in Australia. Australia is a horrible uncaring place to live in my opinion and this lovely advertisement shows me yet again the UK is so much nicer than Australia.
Catherine, I had to leave London with my parents in 1968 and have never really settled in Australia. Have been back several times but like you, my family keeps me here.

That is a good idea. I know a lot of people say you shouldn't buy a pet for Christmas, but if you were to look after it I personally can't see the harm.

I know what you mean .we have always had cats in our house. But the last two i had were my Daughters. I carried on looking after them when she passed.they gave me so much joy.there both gone now sadly.but i just remember all the cats we ever had and the happiness they gave us and the love we gave them.each one with different characters so i look back at that.we still have them in our hearts dont we?.

I pay £10 a month direct debit to the PDSA and I take my baby girls there if they need a vet. You can pay £5 if £10 is too much.

Sam, love your work but I think it would be better if you had used a dog, cats are very independent but dogs really pull at the heartstrings I speak as an owner of dog and cat. Loved the previous advert with the staffie reduced me to tears not so with this one.
Hi Catherine, thank you so much for your comment. Thank you, yes I spent a long time on my advert with my staffie, Charlie. I filmed this only a few weeks ago and it was quite rushed compared to my previous two adverts which I put more time and effort into. This year for me was really hectic and it came to October and I hadn't written a song or finalised a plot. I do have a good idea for next year though. Thanks for the continued support.

This was stunning absolutely phenomenal, god my heart started beating so fast when she got the phone call from the vets and when I saw her put her hand in her chest, knowing that was a sigh of relief, it literally made me she’d so many tears, this is one of the greatest Christmas ads to date, absolutely outstanding work, these ads of your get even more fantastic every year. 'Though I have cousins who'd welcome me at Christmas, since my elderly mother died I've chosen to spend the days around Christmas Day on holiday. I think that to spend it in familiar surroundings would prove too emotional.

Loneliness is a terrible thing and it’s right to remind us. The song is poignant and beautiful.
My worry is using a kitten at Christmas, knowing how many pets get abandoned straight after Christmas.

As a Brit in Australia I am very impressed by this advertisement. It is a very sad subject but it is being brought to attention which is fabulous. Loneliness does not seem to be addressed in Australia. Australia is a horrible uncaring place to live in my opinion and this lovely advertisement shows me yet again the UK is so much nicer than Australia.
As a Brit living in Australia, I feel the same as you. I wish I could go back there to live but I'm too old now.

That is a good idea. I know a lot of people say you shouldn't buy a pet for Christmas, but if you were to look after it I personally can't see the harm.

I know what you mean .we have always had cats in our house. But the last two i had were my Daughters. I carried on looking after them when she passed.they gave me so much joy.there both gone now sadly.but i just remember all the cats we ever had and the happiness they gave us and the love we gave them.each one with different characters so i look back at that.we still have them in our hearts dont we?.
