most of the asians have seen it in schools or college or just for themselves (including in korea, Philippines, vietnam, china and some other asian countries)
I have a friend who has been forced by his dad towards engineering. He wanted to get into business administration, had no intention to join engineering. He is scared shitless of his dad (like Jeetu from pitchers). So, in India you are supposed to pick your career path after the 10th grade. This movie came out when he was in 10th grade. He made sure his dad watched it twice. That's his small story. There were many boys like him who were so happy with this movie. It was like they finally had something big to refer to in any argument with their parents. It was also like an underlying mental support for them.
That scene with Farhan's dad makes me cry everytime, same with when Virus told his newborn grandson "Be who you want". My best friend gave up engineer after 2 years. Her and my parents were not pleased with it, but I knew it was a right thing to do. She's doing management and doing a great job at it.
Shivam Sharma Bhai Hindi me hi uss speech ka maza hai jaise Chamatkar & balatkar dono ek hi type ke hai. ise English me kahega to vo flow nhi ho payega jab flow nhi hoga tab maza bhi nhi aayega
ESTYAK ISLAM a masterpiece is a work of art which is done with excellence. Something people will talk about for years to come..no one will talk about taare zameen par, its not an excellent peice of cinema nor does it fully represent bollywood. Its a great movie...not a masterpiece.
I love how @jabykoay almost broke down while remembering farhan's conversation with his dad. It just shows how our cultural and physical distance does not make us so different after all. We all share similar experiences in life and are connected by our desires, pain, longing and suffering.
my dad's a friend live in Australia and his son study engineering there. He told me once that his University shows 3 idiots to students and everyone appleseed
That's a huge compliment for me and actually brings me relief to see it. I spent a lot of time trying to cut it down while simultaneously trying to avoid making it too choppy, although it had to be sometimes.
Also watch "Kai Po che" which is based on the novel called "Three mistakes of my life" who is the same writer who wrote the novel (Five point someone) on which 3 idiots is based on.
The world has always been asking the wrong question. You should never ask your kid, what do you wanna do? The right question is, how do you want to live? Based on that answer should a life be built.
Achara: "My Dad calls it being a parrot" (So eastern!) Jaby: Huh? (So American!!) Both have a bit of East and West in both, but in Jaby, the East is more in the genes, Achara was immersed in the East and it comes through. Thank you both for bringing the East and West together.
I really like their discussion.... Achara is the best to have this kind of discussion, she makes her point, listens closely, is observant, calm and her equation is pretty awesome with Jaby.... love this combo:D
The whistle is actually a reference. He mentions it in the story too. He adopted the term "all is well" from the watchman. In India, at around midnight the watchman takes a round around the apartment buildings, banging his stick and whistling to shoo away the burglars. So, the whistle was that.
"Sonam Wangchuk, the inspiration behind Aamir Khan's 'Phunsukh Wangdu' character in 3 Idiots has been awarded for changing the world with his innovative thinking and dynamism."
typing this @ 9:00 of the video. just had to.. 10 years back i was in a bad phase, probably the worst of my life. wasn't suicidal but hopeless and defeated. Jaby what you said struck a chord in me and I instantly had a flash of all the great memories of my past 10 years and how thankful I'm to have beaten the storm then. Every word you said about it rings true for me. But as life is, I have hit another bad patch, career wise and Achara what you followed up to Jabys thought has given me more strength. Even as I recall watching the movie back in 2009 and your discussion reminds me of the positive things i took from it back then. Just wana thank you guys.. didn't think that this video, a movie review would be the glimer of hope I so needed. In a different way perhaps, but you two have given me something I can't explain. Hey Jaby, I have to admit this. the way you review films with such minute details and specially for someone being from outside of India, its really very sweet and appreciating. good work you both. love from India. Big fan :)
This is one of the best videos you've put out there....Good work Jaby👍 Btw pair of you and Achara is best on your channel....you guys are on same frequency. God bless.
If you liked these movies, then you'll definitely like this director's previous 2 movies with strong philosophy as well: "Munnabhai MBBS", and "Lage Raho Munnabhai"
wow Jaby and Achara..... from last two days I am hooked to your reviews. and constantly watching one after other. Jaby you have a deep understanding of human psyche and deep philosophical approach that makes viewers listen to you. lots of love... keep it up
no no jaby the pricipal (boman irani) is a great actor from the top league .his character was written like that .some behaviours of his is quite common to his profession in india .almost everyone has heard these type of stories surrounding the principal. but it still was a bit larger than life n i think it gave more dynamics to the script.boman was bang on target as far as acting is concerned. well that's my view.
Jaby you are just awesome! And your eyes became all watery when you talked abt the scene with Farhan and his dad ... I'm guessing it brought back some memories of yours ... Anyway, good points and nicely put forward. Keep up the good work both of you. Cheers!
Love the Director's view on Chatur because he didn't show that character as mediocre in life and he does become successful that was very realistic approach of that character nd that's what I loved about it.
When you were talking about suicide in Japan it reminded me of a film called 'Anjaana Anjaani' with priyanka and Ranbir, it's a good film with a good message but it wasn't praised enough in my opinion! Anyway 3 idiots us one of my favourite films and I loved the review 😊
Hi jaby. I wanna suggest you three movies, two of which has the same director as Pk & 3 idiots - Rajkumar Hirani. 1. Munna Bhai MBBS 2. Lage Raho Munna Bhai 3. Taare zameen par (the last ones amir khan production & not of Rajkumar hirani) ..... you gotta gotta gotta watch these movies man ..... That director and his various previous movies are amazing. And the 3rd (taare zameen par) you have to watch ....
The Pregnant sister was at her parent's house cos in India, during the last months of Pregnancy, the girl usually goes to her Parent's house. This is a kind of ritual and has been this way since ages in India. Yes, Aamir is the best among the lead actors and he puts a lot of effort, research and timeless hours to make his movies flawless and as convincing as possible. You should watch 'Dil Chahta Hai' which is one best ever Indian movies and has a cult status cos it kinda changed the movie trend in India. Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai was released with short time between them, but had completely two different roles for Aamir. I would also suggest Taare Zameen Par (an Aamir khan masterpiece), Rang de Basanti and Mangal Pandey (movie didnt do too well at Box office but has lotta research and history behind it). Also Boman Irani (Kareena's Dad in 3 idiots movie) is also one of the finest actors and has a wide range of roles he can do.
you are right, jaby! That Ted Talk you are talking about is called 'Do schools kill creativity?' by Sir Ken Robinson. It is an incredibly hilarious and insightful video. He talks about Gillian Lynne, the choreographer who choreographed the world renowned Cats. I recommend that video to anyone. Thanks for sharing!
The ballerina story and the book Achara's dad wants her to read are linked, as the ballerina's story is in the book called 'The Element' by Sir Ken Robinson. The "ballerina" is choreographer Gillian Lynne, choreographer of the major musicals 'Cats', 'The Phantom of the Opera', and 'Les Miserables'...among others. I loved this review!! Thanks!
That guitar song is..Give me some sunshine...the man in that song is Ali Fazal who played the role of joy lobo..he was also in Fast and Furious 7 and played the role of Zafar....
jaby and achara you people are really good at analysing the situation and parts where u were discussing life and expectations i got emotional. i wish i could have a word with you both discussing issues m going through. Specially achara.

Hi Jaby and Achara !! , Since you guys spoke about Baman Irani-The principal(Virus) , also watch some of his other iconic roles in "Munna Bhai MBBS" and "Lage Raho Munna Bhai". These are directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, who has also directed 3 idiots and PK. You can analyze his style of whimsical plots with a brilliant comic script and a touching message towards the end of the movie. Do check it out. 😊

Jaby, in India there is a tradition of sending the pregnant wife to their mother's house in times of their delivery period.
There is no such tradition..... some People do it according to situations. It has Nothing to do with tradition.
@@TheSillyRandomThings It's definitely a tradition where I'm from, just that it's now changing as society evolves.
