Watching Elizabeth melting from the first moments of hearing his voice, and knowing that the falsetto is coming.... Oh, just so delicious!! It's deeply joyful to see somebody who is so transported by talent in this way.
I giggle every time in a TCV videos when Elizabeth gushes over a vocal and pauses/rewinds just moments THE THING happens in a song we are all just waiting for. 😂
The Chris Isaak version lives rent-free in my head. It is one of the best songs of that time. It was everywhere. When the D did the cover I was speechless.
I can't believe you have never heard this, this is in a category of it's own. It transcends genres, its vocal sorcery. The sound engineer on this needs an shout-out as well.
Chris Isaak is from my hometown. We were pretty amazed and proud when he achieved success with this song/album. He had the voice, musical talent, movie star looks, and intelligence to make it big time. But in spite of that and some parts in movies, he always remained a pretty down to earth musician who prefers to make music and do small gigs. He's still making music and touring. Respect.
His shows are great fun, you do feel like he is happy to be performing, coming out into the audience too. I always appreciated that side of him as well as the music.
Got to see him when he opened for Tina Turner. An absolute vocal magician. It's so difficult to pull off a retro sound like he does without either struggling technically, or stylistically, becoming a caricature. Amazing. Herb Ritts had the perfect visual concept for this video.
I cannot verify it, but I read that this video was filmed when Kyle was really struggling with depression and Jack swooped in and decided that this might help his friend feel a little better. If that’s true, it gives this video so much more gravitas. Instead of just a bit it’s actually a really sweet moment between friends. This video gives me such “two Labradors running and frolicking on the beach” vibes. I watch it often because it makes me feel so happy to see them so happy.
How could you not get a vocal crush on that voice and the words he's saying? This was an enormous hit and it's still being sung by others because it resonates so well. He's easy on the eyes as well.
It borders on being false to me. You have to actively avoid radio and TV etc. to miss some of the songs she says she's never heard. I need both hands to count the amount of times I've heard this song walking through a store or mall.
@@vezokpiraka That’s the point. It’s impossible for that many UA-camrs to have never heard most of the songs they’re reacting to. The only exception is if they’re really young. The honest ones will admit that it sounds familiar and they recognize it, but have never sat down to listen to it.
I absolutely love this song. It came out in 1989 - I remember seeing it on MTV. You're right... it's still shiver inducing all these years later. That guitar and his vocals. Perfection!
But an early 90s tune for sure. Won the MTV award in 1991. I think it didn't really catch fire until the early 90s brought in an explosion in creativity and genre stretching.
I love watching Elizabeth get so excited about his voice at the beginning, and I'm just grinning and thinking "wait till the chorus!" So excited this song finally made the channel!
This song is timeless. Never gets old, never lose the magic ❤️Everytime I get hooked during the first tone and everytime I need to listen the whole song again in silence.
His voice is a combination of Roy Orbison and Elvis, his 2 biggest influences. He still sounds the same after all these years and his live version still melts the hearts of ladies of all ages,
Certainly some time to hear an analysis of Roy Orbison (perhaps with The Traveling Wilburys and get a number of legendary rock performers -- Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan -- at once)!!!!
Yeah “end of the line” by traveling wilburys is one of my favorites and I think he passed away just before making the video and they just had a empty rocking chair with a guitar on his part
I never thought of it that way. I hear it now. Thanks for the comment. I hope that Elizabeth does an analysis of both Elvis and Roy. As Elvis was the first rock singer I was exposed too. Even though I was born in 1965. Most of what we had around the house was Elvis records. I wasn't introduced to Roy until a few years later. What an amazing voice he has. I believe Elvis said that Roy had the best voice he'd ever heard. Or at least something similar.
I remember seeing this video for the 1st time on MTV when it came out. Me and 4 or 5 friends sat there in silence for the whole song. Our minds were blown! Guys loved it, the girls were obsessed with him and this song. Many 90s babies were conceived either to this song or because of it. I still get chills hearing it now 30 something years later. Corey Taylor did a pretty good version of it too.
Chris Isaac was known, before this song, as a Rockabilly singer! His vocals are absolutely incredible! This song will always hit so hard! Absolute.... PERFECTION!!❤
This song has been covered soooo many times by so many different artists, a testament to its greatness… but the original will always be a classic and favourite. Blue Hotel is another beautiful n brilliant song of his. He definitely deserves greater appreciation and recognition than he has for both his vocal and guitar playing talent
There's a video of him performing this live and the sustain near the end, to see it live, is a testament to how talented a singer Chris truly is. Might want to check it out.
HIM does an amazing cover of this song. It's got a darker feel to it, because that's what they do, but it still hits all the emotions, and is almost hauntingly beautiful.
The live version is better than the recording. HIM-Digital Versatile Doom. Live at the Orpheum Theatre 2008. Full concert. Amazing show. Best version of this song.
@@bobbycollins6783Actually, there are two studio recordings. The first cover version was released on their debut album "Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666", the second one three years later on "Razorblade Romance". The live recording you've mentioned is based on the latter, I believe. Although they're great in concert, I prefer Vile's voice in the second studio recording.
I love that cover almost as much as I love the original version, but in a very different way. You're right, it does sound darker. I love the spin they gave it.
That last line "Nobody loves no-one" is actually not a sad statement - it's a double negative! So it's an interesting way of actually saying "everybody loves someone" I think the different phrasing gives it the idea of no matter how much someone might claim to love no-one, or not want to fall in love, nobody loves no-one :)
"I can't get no satisfaction" is just an example of another double negative. But I think we can agree that it's not the writers intentions. saying "Nobody loves anyone" doesn't have the same ring to it. I truly believe it's meant in negative tone.
And he commits to whatever he is doing 200%. Other people I can think of like this was the late, great Robin Williams and Zack Galafianakis. Always 200% committed to the bit.
That was the thing, he tried to go to Hollywood and basically lost all the heat he'd built up for his music, then people forgot about him. Nobody ever believes me when I tell them he's (briefly) in Silence of the Lambs. :D @@leomuzzy6554
Not sayinf this is a fact. But... his collapsed nose makes me think of drug abuse sadly. I might be wrong but as an ex addict myself. My drug use tingle sets off.
Something I love about Chris Isaak is a quote (and I paraphrase because I heard it long ago) with regard to how he dresses. He commented that whenever he goes out in public, he wears glittery, Elvis-style stuff. Someone asked him if that is what he likes to wear. His answer was (and again, paraphrase from memory), "no, I dress like this for my fans. This is what they want to see me wear. I wear this for them." Great guy.
Every time I hear this song all I can think is "Roy Orbison would be proud". Not one of his songs but Chris reminds me of Roy so much with the yodeling, vocal cracks and soft sounds.
I've always thought of him as Elvis Orbison, the child that they could have had. Chris is such a wonderful dude in person, too. Confidence, the laid-back charisma that draws you in and makes you relax.
"No one loves no one." It is a rare proper use of a double negative. It means that everyone loves someone. No one loves no one. Say it to yourself. It just means everyone loves some one. Love this idea. It's always fun to hear how you explain the way these sounds are made. Really appreciate this channel.
@@lyzz True, but aromantic people experience platonic and familial love among others. The only people who can't are those whose psychology don't allow them to experience affection for something else.
“Nobody loves no one” is such a great line because it can be read in a negative way, or a positive way. He has really good live performances of this too.
It's a negative way in this song. Almost lamenting that he actually fell in love. Wishing that loving no one was a possibility. Without the context of the song, it could be an optimistic way of looking at a bad situation. But with context it is obvious what he means
@@MonkeyJedi99 that is incorrect! Art is an expression by the artist that created the work. It's not random Rorschach ink spots open to interpretation. There are works where we don't know what the artist meant to express, and those are open to interpretation, and there are works where the artist meant to be open to interpretation. But music rarely falls in this category.
@@willpinaI agree that in this song the message was clear. But the idea of the artist or artists leave their art open to interpretation. That's wrong! Bob Dylan for example said himself he'd write lines because the words just sounded good together but they didn't mean anything in particular. The Beatles I Am The Walrus is another nonsensical song open for interpretation. That's the beauty of music and art. Just as a painting can be just like a photo or one that you stand in front of with someone else asking "What does it mean to you" and have a completely different pov. Music can be vague and filled with symbolism or it can be straightforward in it's meaning but to say "Music _rarely_ falls in to this category" is absolutely wrong. Plus, you're writing is confusing. I'm commenting on what I _think_ you meant which is" But music rarely falls into the the _latter_ category. " Otherwise it looks like you're including both categories which would then be "These categories" and I'm pretty sure you meant "The latter category" . In any case its not written properly. It's confusing, but I get it I think. I think the positive spin the commenter gives it is fine if it's how he wants to look at it. For all we know it was written with that in mind. It's not such a leap and you don't seem to be an authority on all things music based on that comment so let him think what he likes in my opinion. Honestly you lost me at 2 categories of music which is just wrong.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever sung by a man. Roy Orbison would be proud. As always, your reactions beautifully express what we're feeling when we hear masterpieces like this. Edit: Should've specified I was talking about Chris Isaak here lol.
@@Non-Applicable7831 Agree! My mind for some reason immediately went back to Danny Glover in 'The Color Purple', when as Mister he remarks about Shug Avery, "I'd drink her bafwater!" 🤣🤣
He still tours!! His best song for me is "Blue Spanish Sky", absolutely love it! He even had his own TV show in the days!! He is amazing! He is from California.
What a totally unalloyed joy this was Elizabeth. Firstly, this is an amazing song and to see you fall head-over-heels in love with Chris Isaak's vocals was such a treat. Then to see you enjoying a beer and getting just slightly tipsy while listening to Tenacious D was delicious. Then, and this is the clincher, you only went and referenced the Bernouli theorem and as an Engineer who uses this all the time, this was (even more) music to my ears. All the best from a very happy Yorkshireman x
Upon hearing you say that you had never heard the original before, I knew that I was going to get to see you turn into a puddle of mush. I was not disappointed. Such moments are just one of the reasons I love watching your journeys of discovery. Much love to you in your many journeys. P.S.: I find you to be extremely insightful while, also, being delightfully adorable. Don't ever change your ability to find joy and delight in new (to you) music and artists. 💖🌹💖
Chris Issac" voice on this song reminds me so much of Roy Orbison. There is a wonderful live "studio" version of this. You put a smile on my face as always. Thank you. Thank you very much. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with friends and family.
My grandmother heard me listening to the stone sour version years ago and said “that’s one of my favourite songs, who’s singing, they sing it beautifully” She was in utter shock when I told her it was the lead singer from Slipknot. She had previously referred to slipknot as “just screaming and noise”. I actually managed to get her to listen to some other more mellow Slipknot and Stone Sour thanks to Wicked Game.
I've heard a lot of people say the same about Nine Inch Nails, but Trent Reznor has some great range. When I get people to listen to Hurt or more acoustic songs that NIN has made, they're always amazed.
I am continually in awe of her ability to think about the tonal qualities of those voices with the visual spectacle of those two videos in the background. That is focus!
I've never felt like I was committing breach of privacy by watching a reaction video, before. I kept thinking that I should let Elizabeth have her alone time.
Her being playful and fun is a fantasy for viewers. I used to think men were mesmerized by her but since have heard many heterosexual women express lust for her. I just wonder if Elizabeth knows who she is.
I wonder if Elizabeth even knows who Helena Christensen is. Helena was top of the modeling world when they made this video. How Chris could afford her fee baffles me.
I agree he has an absolutely beautiful voice. My wife and I saw him at an outdoor venue in Austin, TX at least a decade ago (maybe 2) and it started pouring rain, Chris never skipped a beat and we were soaked but it was an awesome experience. So glad we stayed to get a CD signed by him after the concert.
Chris got a lot of great great songs. "Go Walking Down There" "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" "Blue Spanish Sky" "Lie To Me" "Blue Hotel". These are some of my personal favorites, where it showcases all what he can do with his voice.
A year ago when 1 of your videos was recommended to me... I NEVER thought I'd be experiencing a year of learning more about my favorite music, and certainly never saw myself sitting here a year later playing a drinking game along with you! Keep going Liz!
I can’t believe you’ve never heard this classic song or of Chris Isaak before. A unique and talented guy (has been an actor and TV show host in the past). He is a great entertainer when you see him live and you’re right, he has a little bit of Elvis in him. 😎
Alright there, Fozzie Bear, I definitely need more waka videos with you, my friend!! Lol Also, this song is so iconic, Ross played it for Rachael in the episode of Friends when they finally had a date! 😄🥰 Edit: Okay, I hope you understand the double negative at the end. When he sings, "Nobody loves no one" , he was not saying, "Nobody loves ANYone." He was saying that EVERYone loves someone! We all have the capacity within us regardless of whatever nonsense is being trended or glorified. We all were born out of love and we ALL have the ability to love. It's all up to us to not only recognize this ability, but also to choose to embrace this ability regardless of the undeserving situations we tend to find ourselves in. Such is life -- such is our test of strength in life. 😇
A guy behind this minimalistic sliding guitar had fought a lot of demons in his life, living fast with no control. Yet, he produced one of the most organic, slow, down to earth beautiful tones, like nobody else.
Always loved this song. The musicality and the sexiness. Saw him in NYC 6-7 years ago after a crazy snow storm. Never forget that. Of course, this is his closing song.
I have no problem singing this song. Both my parents were professional singers and I am blessed with a great voice, even at 63 years old. Thanks for another awesome reaction. Hello from Pa USA 🇺🇸 💖 💓
I love this song. The story of this song is interesting. A girl Chris Isaak knew called him for a booty call one night. Before they met he wrote this song (in like 30 minutes) about how he didn't want to fall for her and she wasn't right or good for him. When they met, talking about this song was all he wanted to do. The song is about his conscious choice to not fall in love with her and the wickedness of the temptation. What's so great about the Tenacious D video is, once you've seen it, you can never un-see it.
I can't state enough how grateful I am to have grown up in the 80's and early 90's. So much of the music and movies from that era are classics. This song came out when i was 13, and every time i hear it to this day, it takes me back. I'm so glad I was able to enjoy this and so much more.
Me as well. I think I was around 15. When this song/video came out I was mesmerized. Watching her indifference to Chris’s obsession along with the lyrics and vocals… chilling.
For as long as I remember, I've had a preconception of Opera singers and patrons. I thought 'Frasier' types who lived in a separate and rigid world of their own. Cheers to you for your humanity. I'd never even considered the science and biology of singing. I love that your videos are both educational and entertaining. You must be an awesome teacher.
This is a very sexy, seductive song and one of Chris's most iconic songs, BUT you can't explore Chris's talent until you also hear "Baby Did A Bad, Bad, Thing!". His ability to hit the low notes in the title run is amazing and also so sexy!!
Takes 3 drinks, satisfied... says... "This is gonna be a good one." CLASSIC. It's like his voice is your own personal heroin. I've watched a lot of your reactions... and you've had high praise for many great talents, but I've never seen one hit you quite like this. I thought I knew this song well, but listening to it with you breaking it down in your way has imprinted it in my bones more today. It's even more remarkable than I remembered it being. Thank you! This was a great one to watch. It is always a pleasure to watch somebody with a real musician's ear get captivated by greatness like you were in this video. In case it isn't obvious... I'm talking about the Wicked Game part.
@@TheCharismaticVoice It really is amazing. He's older and you'd be forgiven for thinking that maybe his voice was not as strong... nope. he absolutely nails the performance.
True. I were like "Holy sh*t! That dude was Chris Isaak!" when i saw that movie first time. It was on Filmnet that were like NetFlix of late 80s / early 90s. You needed special encrypter to watch movies from Filmnet from cable tv.
Yeah, and every person in the "SWAT" team looked like it was the first and only time any of them had held a gun. Not a good look for any of them. It was worse than childish looking.
The production on this album and this song in particular is stellar. Everything you hear was independently manipulated to achieve the combined effect. The bass drum pat is entirely electronic and was chosen to have the perfect sonic impact to provide the normal momentum of the beat without occupying the normal sonic space. The reverb on the guitar is nearly three dimensional. You can hear those echos and ripples literally waft away from you like you're sitting in the middle of a calm pond. Heart Shaped World and I'm Not Waiting are also highly recommended for song quality, performance and production. And by the way, Isaak and his band can replicate these songs PERFECTLY live. As an added bonus, Isaak is hilarious in between songs.
This. I think the reason this is a 34 year old timeless masterpiece is that production quality. There are pieces from the 60's and 70's which are similarly timeless due to the production quality and the time and effort that went into producing that sound. Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, Jean-Michele Jarre's Oxygene Michael Jackson's Billie Jean 10CC's I'm Not In Love Sade's No Ordinary Love and Smooth Operator
As a non-singer (but huge music fan) and not knowing how singers make the sounds they make and not even noticing them till someone like Liz points them out I absolutely LOVE this channel!!! And don't ever cut yourself off when talking about the "science" of singing... more info is more better!!!! And the most perfect example of the info you bring to the table that I simply never notice is: "How many vowels are in there???? ... Way to may 3 vowels out of 1!" just great stuff!!!
only 6 mins in and this video already made my morning! i always took the ending "no body, loves no one" to mean everybody loves somebody. thank you for the wonderful vocal breakdown.
Will never forget the first time I heard this. My grown son was staying with me, and one night this song was playing throughout the house. What a georgious voice!! I prefer the live version with him performing live on stage. The focus is on him and the song.
Three things: First, despite having a more general inclination to rock/blues/metal, this is my favourite song of all time! It makes me so happy to see you react to it and appreciate just how good it is on such a professional level. I love Jack Black and their cover is great, but the original is the GOAT. Second, the last line isn't negative as you've interpreted it, it's positive! In saying "Nobody loves no-one", he's saying that everybody loves someone. If anyone tells you they love no-one, they're lying - those people just don't exist. Lastly, Jack Black is an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE and must be protected at all costs!
Additionally the Chris Isaac version is, can we say, downright sensual the way his words and phonation tickle not only your ears but down to your INSIDE touching every nerve ending in a gentle sensual kiss … Isaac really gets under your skin in this performance. His ability to deliver raw emotion is incredible. I also love how he is using another double entendre with lyrics, drawing you in with sensual love but also making you think of the deep longing of love for many things in the world. A genius song incredibly delivered-even through the musical notes that also feel like a caress to the ears and skin. YOWZA! 😍😋
Vibrato is the key to this song. The opening guitar lead suggests that things will be steamy but also very passionate.Great tune.Chris has great tone and very expressive in this song. The artist who created an iconic song.Really a song that sells-less is more and boy does it just capture a moment.
I am a Chris Isaak fan since forever. He has such a smooth voice, such a range, and he is a very good actor too. And he is a hottie, obviously. This video clip of him with Helena Christensen is legendary. It was such a hit back then! (the 90's)
35:32 those vocals you're swooning over are the talent we all heard in his "silly" music. He's an amazing vocalist. Love to see you so excited over it!
I remember watching this music video in the 80s when it first released on mtv. I was blown away by this guy's voice. Always wondered what happened to him.
Watching your videos is like being there with you in the same room. I often find myself laughing and answering you out loud, and now drinking. Not to mention all the things I learn from your videos about voice and music in general. Thanks for these awesome videos. You rock!
Btw, as much as I love VV, my favorite version of this song is from Corey Taylor. Best emotional expression and vocals I’ve ever heard for this masterpiece.
I spent most of my school years in choir. I'm almost 61, and my voice isn't what it once was. However, I still love it when I hit a note so solidly that it makes my dental fillings vibrate!
Elizabeth is just killing me over here talking about "CT", "TA", "TA engagement", etc. while this EXTREMELY spicy music video is playing! 😆😆😆 What a fun game this is! MORE PLEASE!!!
Love it! I love watching you do your analyses. I was smiling waiting for you to hear the chorus. When you said, "where's this guy been", I thought, I've been chilling to this song and other covers for over 30 years. And he's very easy on the eyes! Cheers! I suggest you listen to his vocal range and acrobatics in "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing". That song is squarely in the Rock and Roll category and so fun.
This is my all-time favourite song. It came out when I was a kid, and I could feel the meaning of the song years before I even started learning English. I'm so happy you liked the song too.
This song was actually not intentionally written as a ballad, it was supposed to express the desire and also regret that comes along with a purely physical relationship. The way you said that the specific tone of the guitar made your skin crawl and hairs stand on end is indicative of his true intention with the song. Beneath the sexy exterior is hurt and pain. "No I don't wanna fall in love with you".
One of my all time favorite songs... I never get sick of hearing it . I could listen to it over and over and I have... I like black label society and hard rock as well as Yngwie but this song is an everybody shut up song for me cuz I don't wanna miss any of the full on perfection in the guitar AND the vocals!! This is a masterpiece plain and simple!!
There are a few times in the song where I believe a hear a hard "g" from the backup singers, saying "this girl is only gonna break your heart" and most times it is clearly "this world is only gonna break your heart". The first time through the lyrics, Chris subtly sneaks in the word "don't" as in "no, I don't wanna fall in love", thereafter he clearly sings "no I wanna fall in love", which shows a change in his feelings as he's being drawn in. To me, the entire song is about being drawn in to feeling love for another person when that other person is just stringing you along before dumping you and not caring that they've broken your heart and broken you as well. That's why even when the backup singers ARE singing "this world is only gonna break your heart", I've always taken it to mean that the world she's drawn him into will only break his heart. I've also always thought of the guitar work being symbolic of his situation. He (Chris) is slightly out of tune with the rest of the world because of how he's being manipulated. Of course, that's all opinion. I could be wrong!
You're exactly right. The official lyrics have "don't" every time, but the performance is deliberately ambiguous. According to Isaak, someone asked to come over at 4am, and he said yes, and immediately regretted it, and wrote the song before she got there.
I feel like a "tea time interview" with Elizabeth and Jack Black would be the most amazing thing we've ever witnessed!
That could only end in beautiful chaos.
They would probably spend the whole time talking about Dio, but I would be OK with that!
Its also in the realm of possibility because he loves doing UA-cam stuff.
He'd probably do it. He's cool like that.

Yes, absolutely!!!!!!!
I agree
I love the live version on UA-cam.
So it is the chris isssc version. The version I’ve heard the most and is awesome
I’m about 20 or so videos in after discovering this channel and Tipsy Elizabeth is my new spirit animal.
Identical feelings here, cheers! 🍻
She is mine too guys
I thought the same thing then wondered if she's ever done a reaction to Ville Valo 🤔
I was thinking about them!
That last line "Nobody loves no-one" is actually not a sad statement - it's a double negative! So it's an interesting way of actually saying "everybody loves someone"
I think the different phrasing gives it the idea of no matter how much someone might claim to love no-one, or not want to fall in love, nobody loves no-one :)
Came to say the same thing. Thanks.
"I can't get no satisfaction" is just an example of another double negative. But I think we can agree that it's not the writers intentions.
saying "Nobody loves anyone" doesn't have the same ring to it. I truly believe it's meant in negative tone.
It's one of the most important lines and almost said as an afterthought. It's easy to miss the whole line or the meaning of it.
I knew someone would have said it, by now. 👍
the double negative rule is not a rule since long time tho :)
Fell in love with Helena's eyes, stayed for Chris'voice. Still regularly listen to this masterpiece on my playlist
Helena i s god damned timeless. She's 54, but still looks like an absolute million bucks. Danish genes, eh?
This song always takes me straight back to the early 90s. First love, lazy summer, no worries, no stress.
Jack can pull anything off musically because he is genuinely unapologetically himself always.
You know, I would actually say that he has managed to make his self-consciousness appealing. But I don't know for sure.

I never understood why Chris wasn't a bigger star than he was. Such an unbelievable voice, should easily be in every single romance movie ever made.
Truth! I'd give you more thumbs-up if I could.
Chris did some acting, as did drummer Kenny Johnson. After that, who knows.
That was the thing, he tried to go to Hollywood and basically lost all the heat he'd built up for his music, then people forgot about him.

Just to make some of us feel a little old, this song came out 34 years ago. Still like this tune. Chris has an amazing voice.
It's crazy how so many songs make me realize how old I am! Saw Chris perform live years ago. His voice is just as pure live as it is recorded.
You reeeeeeeeally didn't have to bring that up ya know...
I knew it was a long time but did you actually have to put a number on it? Lol

I agree completely big Orbison energy like traveling willburys era Orbison
Roy Orbison and Alison Krauss could both have done justice to this song
Glad Im not alone in the Orbison thought...
I've always thought of him as Elvis Orbison, the child that they could have had. Chris is such a wonderful dude in person, too. Confidence, the laid-back charisma that draws you in and makes you relax.
@seanhutt4621
Early 60's elvis presley.
"No one loves no one." It is a rare proper use of a double negative. It means that everyone loves someone. No one loves no one. Say it to yourself. It just means everyone loves some one.
Love this idea. It's always fun to hear how you explain the way these sounds are made. Really appreciate this channel.
I wanted to point this out too: “nobody loves no one” is correct, unless you can produce a counter example: is there someone who loves no one?
Thank you, what a great explanation of that line. I know I struggled with it for a long time.
Had to delete my post because I'm drinking along, and missed this post. This is indeed the rare, correct usage of a double negative.
@@johnhakansson1832i mean technically aromantic people exist😅
@@lyzz True, but aromantic people experience platonic and familial love among others. The only people who can't are those whose psychology don't allow them to experience affection for something else.
“Nobody loves no one” is such a great line because it can be read in a negative way, or a positive way. He has really good live performances of this too.
It's a negative way in this song. Almost lamenting that he actually fell in love. Wishing that loving no one was a possibility. Without the context of the song, it could be an optimistic way of looking at a bad situation. But with context it is obvious what he means
@@willpina I counter that music is art.
And the "meaning" of art is in what the viewer/listener gets from it.
@@willpina Then I shall continue to enjoy art and music "wrong" and be happy.
I don't have time in my life to conform to what art is "supposed" to be.
Chris Isaak's song, it's a love ballad. It was all over the radio when I was a kid. Indeed, where has he been?!
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever sung by a man. Roy Orbison would be proud. As always, your reactions beautifully express what we're feeling when we hear masterpieces like this. Edit: Should've specified I was talking about Chris Isaak here lol.

What a totally unalloyed joy this was Elizabeth. Firstly, this is an amazing song and to see you fall head-over-heels in love with Chris Isaak's vocals was such a treat.

She was in utter shock when I told her it was the lead singer from Slipknot.

Also, this song is so iconic, Ross played it for Rachael in the episode of Friends when they finally had a date! 😄🥰
Edit:
Okay, I hope you understand the double negative at the end.
When he sings, "Nobody loves no one" , he was not saying, "Nobody loves ANYone."
He was saying that EVERYone loves someone! 😇

I always felt that "Nobody, loves no-one" was a double negative and took it as "Everybody, loves someone" Also, the Corey Taylor version is amazing.

This is one of those great songs that has its own universe that it pulls you into from the very first notes. Love vibe songs like this.
I can't state enough how grateful I am to have grown up in the 80's and early 90's. So much of the music and movies from that era are classics. This song came out when i was 13, and every time i hear it to this day, it takes me back. I'm so glad I was able to enjoy this and so much more.

This is a very sexy, seductive song and one of Chris's most iconic songs, BUT you can't explore Chris's talent until you also hear "Baby Did A Bad, Bad, Thing!". His ability to hit the low notes in the title run is amazing and also so sexy!!
The going from the low notes to the high notes and then back again with such relaxation. I’m not sure how he can back down low after the highs.

I've watched a lot of your reactions... and you've had high praise for many great talents, but I've never seen one hit you quite like this. I thought I knew this song well, but listening to it with you breaking it down in your way has imprinted it in my bones more today. It's even more remarkable than I remembered it being. Thank you! To see you gush over my all time favorite song made me warm all over. Thank you for that.

Three things:
First, despite having a more general inclination to rock/blues/metal, this is my favourite song of all time!
Thank you! I always understood the double negative verse at the end to be positive as well, beautifully haunting.
YOWZA! 😍😋

The guitar sounds so lonesome. It truly adds to the magic of the song
I agree
You're exactly right. The official lyrics have "don't" every time, but the performance is deliberately ambiguous. According to Isaak, someone asked to come over at 4am, and he said yes, and immediately regretted it, and wrote the song before she got there.
