At first I thought they were just awarding them the Oscars because it's Asians turn in the hyper-politically correct atmosphere. But watched the movie here today in Tokyo and was great. There really was a lot of acting, from comedy to action to drama, crying. The ending was predictable. Lucky for me I actually speak Chinese (subtitles were only in Japanese) although I had to guess when they spoke Cantonese / Guangdonghwa. They really required a lot Quan and Yeoh who had to play multiple versions of themselves. Great acting and great story.

He's such an American treasure and his journey is astounding. There are very few major child actors that get as big roles as Ke as such a young child in the early 80s and almost all end up becoming A list actors and getting big roles all over their career. The system made it basically impossible for him to follow that same path but he kept pushing and enduring and he truly was able to see his dream come alive

I understand exactly how Ke Huy Quan must be feeling now. He must've thought his days in show business is over, but still looked up to it with hope, like a sport player would when they're sidelined due to a career-ending injury. So glad he not only got an opportunity to act in a movie, but that role bought him an Oscar is the icing on the cake.

On and off screen, there is just something so endearing and likeable about him. So much so, that I can still remember how I felt watching his promo interviews on tv decades ago. I know I'm not alone in my standom either, because I've had many convos with many people over the years about how lovable he is and how disappointed we were that he seemed to have disappeared from the big screen after Encino Man. I know he worked behind the scenes and probably did have small on screen roles here and there, but we've missed him as a part of the main cast.
