  • In this video and the previous one, I am trying to focus on meshing my tom/ride fills and double bass playing together to incorporate some more grooves with heavy double bass.

Everything is great but kick work goes off tempo. Keep up the practice!

Thats what ive been working on, is getting my left leg up to speed with my right, left arm up to speed with the right, then going up from there. Control, relaxation, and evenness throughout the kit! Its a long journey and will never end though I am feeling progress, especially in the last year. I appreciate it man! Thank you for watching! \m/

I've been doing my best to grasp ankle technique as my main throwing in swivel when I want to save energy. Its a totally huge adjustment for me from the stomping i used to do for everything hahaha. Its been a lot of work, but its been feeling great. Its been about 8 months I've been pushing myself with this technique and I've never felt so versatile compared to my last 15 years of drumming hahaha. I have a loooooooong way to go though. My midspeeds are my weak point with double bass. Still haven't grasped how to use ankle at mid speeds priperly because I find it easy to just speed right up. Its like my pedals are nice and weighty when I go super fast and I can feel it really nicely, but I'm hitting too hard when playing slowly resulting in super quick rebound from the pedal even though the weight distribution is comfortable, forcing me to need to really control the pedals with a set tension across my entire legs, making it hard to relax and execute the mid speeds. I have some understanding to do haha. It probably sounds backwards but its my struggle since I've put myself towards ankle technique. My muscle memory is imprinted with stomping for 15 years so its hard to break out. I've managed with 200bpm+, now its weirdly time to work my way down. I want to be able to play lashed to the slave stick by nile. Its funny though, I can do midspeed double bass straight as long as I want at really any speed, no exhaustion without playing the rest of my kit. Once I throw the hands in there I fall apart. I spent a lot of time being unaware I had a balance issue. I've always played double bass but my left foot is undoubtedly handicapped. I used to use my left foot for balance, play really well with my right foot, and then do the best bursts of double kick I could and go back to using my left leg to balance. I wasn't ALWAYS using double kick at that time either. Right now a big key to my midspeed double bass goal, is achieving proper balance, which I'm feeling positive results towards. I'm playing a lot more straight double bass in a much more involved way now, so its opening my eyes in many ways. Balance balance balance. Its been tricky haha. Not offended by your comment at all either its very much appreciated and I appreciate constructive criticism. I just find it fun and interesting to dissect and try to learn about my flaws, maybe get some input from others from their experiences.
