How To Replace The Preheater Hose On A Car Air Cleaner

Here is how to replace the preheater hose on a car engine. The preheater hose connects from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner, and it brings hot air up into the air cleaner when the engine is warming up.
If you’re cars preheater hose is missing or broken, it is very easy to find a replacement. Most auto parts stores sell replacement carburetor preheater hoses for less than $10, and they have them in stock. Make sure you measure the size of the fittings on your air cleaner and on your exhaust manifold, and then buy a preheater hose that fits. It just pressure fits on, but make sure that you route it around hoses and cables between the exhaust manifold and the air cleaner.

Have a 1982 Chev van, 350, and without the hose I have to run the engine until it heats up some, or it will try to stall. Runs smoothly when warm.

I tested the thermostatic air butterfly valve above that tubing,to which found was not working. So being as it is supposed to open when warmed up,just like your radiator thermostat. I've decided to do the flip lid trick on my 94 suburban, there by introducing more open space for air coming into the Throttle body. .. hope this keep's my burban from dying while driving it.

Great video thank you. Mine was broken on my 89 Toyota corolla however my mechanic said no need to replace it with a new tube and that I can just take it off and leave it off as we live in a warmer climate. Any idea of that is correct?

If you don't have this hose will It cause your car not to run

Is it needed, I live in California? Will make a stock 305 run irregular?

I doubt it makes much difference. But in California, if you don’t have one, you will fail the visual test for emissions.
