  • In this video, I make a intermediary plate to go between my new 4 Jaw Chuck (not impressed), and both my rotary tables.
Lots going on in this one!

Ok Jon..... so far, so good..... but i am afraid of, how do you Know that i bought a rotary Table, ..... that i need a Adapter-plate for.... and that i enjoy my morning coffe during a search of Videos to make one.......

Hi Chris, thanks for the comment. I am watching you........... Spooky lol. The bung method works really well and also provides additional clamping by way of the centre threaded hole working like a T Nut, pulling up onto the back of the plate. Cheers, Jon

Morning Jon. working through your back catalog of episodes. LOL - you made me spit my coffee through my nose with your "2nd only to Pratt and Burnerd" comment. That was very funny. That was followed by your review of quality sign-off process. Very clever.
Great project. Very nice to hear your M300 give a little light grumble as your cut went a little deeper. Mine makes the same - very satisfying sound of effort.
Nice final fit. You can't fake the sound a good fit makes.
    All the best

Great Jon. I like the bung idea for centreing the chuck. I also really liked the use of the parting tool to generate the second reduced diameter.
I learn something from you every time.

Hi Carl, thanks for the comment. Yes, the bung idea works well, it also doubles up as additional clamping if you need it via the tapped hole, works like a T Nut, pulling up onto the back face of the plate. Cheers, Jon

Personally Seeing as you centre drilled the work piece I would have used a blot in the centre and that would leave the side and face to be worked on IMO. You did a really great job.

May be that the different pcd was one is metric and the other is imperial. lol. That would explain the East meets West caper. I do like the concept of multi fit and that can be applied to other devices as you choose to do so as in the chuck can be adapted/ fitted to other applications with a minimum of fuss. Merry Christmas, John, Australia.

Hi Jon! To mount a 4 jaw chuck on a rotary table with four slots I just drilled 4 holes through the chuck and clamp it with 4 screws. Well - OK - I have to center it with a dial indicator, but whaddaf... it works.

@@jonsworkshop Hi Jon! Thank you, of course we're fine, old weeds won't go away ;-)
Well, I admit it wasn't my idea :-(
My Forkardt chuck is front-mounted and I thought that it should work with others too.
So I marked the pitch circle of the thread on the front of the chuck. Drilled through from the front, countersunk so that Allen screws fit in and on the underside you only need the matching T-nuts.
But the only problem is it only works with a 4-jaw chuck on rotary tables with 4 slots or with a three-jaw chuck on three-slot tables.
It doesn't work out with the hole circles.
Except: with a three-jaw chuck you sacrifice a fastening thread that you drill through, then it would also have to work with a three-jaw chuck on a three-groove table.
      At least I think so. . .
So, if you only use the three-jaw chuck on the rotary-table, then that should work too.
Above all: on my small milling machine I gain about 15 mm in height because I don't have to insert an intermediate flange.
Maybe I'll try to turn some material off the back of the chuck. It is only mounted on the turntable and not on the lathe, so it would be meaningless.
      Greetings: Dieter

Hi Matty, thanks for the comment. Lol, yep, full of authenticity! Same pen, same writing, same guy with 3mm chopped off the end of his rule lol. The centre bung is useful, you can use the centre threaded hole as additional clamping as it pulls up on the back face of the chuck like a T Nut. Cheers, Jon
