      @@RomanCastroVlog Roman, I tried this hack the other day. It worked perfectly on a flat surface. Have you noticed any issues when trying it on a ramp or beach with a steeper grade?

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  4 роки тому +1

      Zachary Riggs it’s more tricky on a grade but just lift the kayak slowly. The bungees are not supposed to lift the kart off the ground. They only align the cart with the scuppers before you set it back down on it. Also when you lift the kayak match the angle of the grade. Think parallel with the wheel base and ramp. If the angle is still messing with you then set up the kayak so it’s facing straight uphill. This way the wheels will be flat relative to your lifted kayak. Does that make sense? I think it’s time for a follow up vid. 😊

    Hi Roman, I tried your mod then I modified it. I have a Hobie Oasis double yak. I utilized the two pad eyes on it. I will order two replacements soon. Anyway, I found this works better than the one side you did. It pops up faster with two regular bungees on the pad eye and is sturdier.

    • @RomanCastroVlog

      Great info Jeff! It's easier to thread the cart through with one thin bungee when I'm putting it on while its on the truck. But I do see how more torque from two bungees would help.

    I always just stick my wheels on while it’s in the water. People look at me like I’m crazy but I’m out of the water in 1/5 the time. While they get a friend to lift the back or try n flip there’s over n I’m outta there solo with 200lbs of gear no problem. Then on the back of the truck that’s easy. And I got a cart to hold the kayak at home so basically only gotta put them on from a flat position in the water.

    I don’t understand why all the videos require hobie pad eye tops for an the extra $30. Seems like a waste of time ordering and money when you can easily just drill one hole into the the existing top and use an overhand knot to secure the bungee.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  3 роки тому

      Hi Jason, You are right. The pad eye tops are not required if you want to drill into the round top it comes with. I wanted to be bale to convert my cart back to stock if I ever wanted to sell it. That's why I went that route. A drilled stock round top would work.

    Wouldn't it be easier if you just used a padeye on each post and one longer bungee cord fed down through the scupper holes and hooked onto the padeyes? Than you could just pull the bungee while you walk to the back and lift. You would just need to use a bungee with the right length to have ideal tension when you are pulling it while standing at the rear of the kayak.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  4 роки тому

      HI D O,
      You could do it that way. I'm not the strongest so the idea of picking up the back of the kayak and also doing anything else wouldn't work for me. With this setup, the tension makes the wheels want to go in to the scuppers against gravity. All I have to do is lift up the kayak and get it out of its way.
      These days i dont even use the little feeder line. I just push the bungee up the scupper and catch it with my other hand.
      It looks clunky but it works great.
      Do you have yours rigged as you described?

    I like to carry the wheels on my kayak, upside down in the scuppers behind the seat. I think having a crimped bungee as a permanent attachment will prevent inserting the cart upside down (or the bungee would be trailing under the boat). How about just using two pad eyes, then attach bungees from the top whenever loading?

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  5 років тому

      Hi +Steve Ruffino, That is a great idea. I don't like how the wheels get in the way of the built in rod holders so I just throw the wheels under the cargo bungee in the back. Replacing with two padeyes would be a good solution for your application. Maybe some mini carabiners.

    That landing gear going through the scupper holes would worry me with a fully loaded PA12. I know Hobie makes quality kayaks, mighty expensive for the risk. That said, not sure if you’re much better off with a Boonedox system.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  6 років тому

      It's such a hard choice but the scupper holes are probably more reinforced than the sides where the Boondox Landing Gear bolts on. The ultimate solution would be to get a trailer with the custom PA shaped receiver and just launch it like a boat. No need for cart or landing gear. What are you using right now?

    • @kernlkajun1
      @kernlkajun1 6 років тому +1

      I will be using the Boonedox with wheelerz sand tires on my new Outback but it’s obviously a lighter kayak. Still it’s a calculated risk but if used properly should be a great advantage for launching in low lying marshy areas and beaches. Just way too expensive.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  5 років тому +1

      Hi MDMADFISHERMAN,
      The thinner one is 1/8 inch Elastic Cord. The thicker one is 1/4 Inch. I'm going to do an update to this video. The hack has held up well but It would be better if both cords were 1/4. I'll try to have an update video up ASAP.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  5 років тому +1

      +MDMADFISHERMAN, I realized why I did two sizes on the bungees.
      Here is why you need a small one and a large one. When the Kayak is on the truck before the offload you will have to feed the think bungee up the scupper before pushing the cart up or it will be too thick to fit.
      The thin bungee will on the other side and you don't have to feed that through. Once the cart is in the scuppers put the think bungee around the chair riser bar and back to the loop on the cart. This will keep it from falling out while you get into position to pull it off the truck.
      Again video for that on the way soon. The video after next.

    Great work! Have you tried used this when returning from fishing say at a boat ramp or muddy bank? I can see at a boat ramp with waves washing into the ramp trying to fish those bungees as they're floating around in the water it could be a challenge.

    • @RomanCastroVlog
      @RomanCastroVlog  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Jerry! It's done well for me on boat ramps and muddy banks. I land parallel to shore so the kayak is floating the whole time when I get out. Then I take the bow and put it on the shore. Then I'll set the wheels parallel to the water and lift the stern over to the wheels by pivoting on the bow. At that point the yak is completely out of the water and I can feed the bungees through no problem. I might do another video on this to make it easier to see. Hope all is well!

There might be enough room to pull the chord through the hole but the retaining pin will be in the way when you try to line up the cart on the lift. Good video you are much better at making a videos than me. Search: Hobie Kayak Scupper Cart Hack No Tipping Your Boat On Its Side. three is a part 1 and 2. I ran the 36" bungees all the way through the tubes. Two hints that will help is aim the top of the cart at the bow of the boat, help with lining it up straight when you move the boat over. And if you want a little more room when feeding the bungees through set the boat on one tire letting the one side of fall between the tires, that then feed the bungee through on the high side. Then move the boat on to the other tire and do the other side.

      To add to it, on my boats with my set up the bungees can be hooked to the top of the seat or the seat cross bar if the seat is out. If you want to try to feed the regular size bungees down the tubes as I did it helps to twist steel baling or tie wire like stripes on a candy cane to help guide the bungee through.

    with all your gear and esky Rods ect in the pro 14 ..it's just to heavy to lift..

      Hi Glenn. I travel light. When I take more gear I'll move it all up towards the front before lifting the back. Then i move all the loose items to the back so its not so nose heavy when I pull it along.
