      VentureTube I was wondering as I ordered this trailer on Easter for 25% off and I only have a 10 foot Kayak that I will tow with a Fiat 500. I was thinking it may be possible to not enven use the unistrut and Just mount the Pvc to the Trailer frame . Is that the a reason that you use it as it is used for a 12-14 footer. Or Is it to raise the Kayak up . I plan on cutting the bar to the tounge back as I will just carry my 37 pound Kayak to the water. Thanks for the help

    I can't not thank you enough for this video and inspiration. Picked up my pa 14 today, already had my trailer built and registered, 60 bucks at lowes and about 2 hours (mostly measuring) and I was able to build the set up you're rocking. I didn't grind my washers I found they bent snug once tightened, but a legit replica of your trailer build.Thanks again!

    I used your vid to put together a Harbor a Freight trailer for my Big Tuna. The Tuna was just to big to get on the top of my Suburban so your build was perfect. Easy launch and recovery! It took me a lot longer to build than it did you but it was pretty easy. Used you tube to learn how to pack the wheel bearings. Even the electrical hookup went in easily too. Grounding the wire to the trailer is key. Again UA-cam to the rescue.
    Thanks Tony.

    Fantastic!! Thanks for taking the time to show how its done! I was just looking a collapsable & they wanted $1800. It would transport heavier but I don't need that for my Pro 14.

    About an hour ago, I finished my Harbor Freight trailer with the 3" PVC, for my Pro Angler 12. I built it from your UA-cam video... with the Unistrut supports. Thank you for detailing it as you did. (I am a subscriber and appreciate your "work"!)
    I made some minor changes due to having a PA12, not a PA14. I cut the overall length of the PVC to 9 feet. The PVC overhang from the Unistrut is 15". The distance between the Hobie's front grab handle (resting on the black rubber roller) to the coupler is 33". I also rotated the bracket that holds the roller, so the grab handle rests "in" it. I was concerned about the wiring, so I ran all the wires inside the frame.

    I made this same trailer for my PA 17T. It worked great. The only difference is I slid the PVC pipe further back and adjusted the front securing post as far forward as possible.
    It actually rides higher than I originally thought it would.

      +Jamie Duffey I built this trailer with same material as this video with only minor adjustments. adjustments being I ran the PVC pipe about 20 inches off of the back of the trailer. additionally I pushed the front post as far forward as possible.

    After seeing your video, I decided to order a trailer today. Thanks for the coupon tip, every little bit helps. I'm down in Puerto Rico so the freight was more than the trailer itself, but there just aren't a lot of options. Some people "jury-rig" jet ski trailers, if you can find one, even then it's about the same money.

    Finished my build out. Basically Identical to yours. Spent an extra $20 on bearing buddies and $60 on the spare tire and spare tire mount because I plan to do some long hauls with it. The bearing buddies were upgraded from the dust covers for the same reason. Cutting that superstrut was a bear using an angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Imagine the dremel tool took a long time to get through it. Had one bad tail light but harbor freight said they shipped me a new one already so I'm waiting on it. All in all, good project. Thank you so much for the idea. Also I'm using this to haul my Ocean Kayak trident 13 but it fits very well. I plan to get the PA 14 later and being able to adjust the supports made me feel better knowing it would fit any kayak I want to sit on it. Only thing I may do different once I get the PA is to buy the wing supports that Hobie sells, but I really don't think it is necessary.

    This must be an older model of trailer. After the video I went to Harbor Freight website, but they only have much bigger versions. Oh well it's still better than paying $1500 for a prebuilt kayak trailer. More versatile too. Thanks for the idea!

    I found on my outback and PA14 the 3” pvc pipes chaffed the underside of the kayak and had to wrap pipes with carpet to cushion them. I trailer mine all the time, usually 180 miles round trip. Maybe our roads are rougher out here in Kansas.

    I tried to buy one of those trailers on Labor Day from Harbor Freight. they gave me a big run around. At the end of the day It's around $700 with shipping along with something called a lift fee. Remember the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for" 100% And in this case. If you buy junk, then you work on junk, and you end up with junk.

    the coupon codes usually don't include trailers. sometimes they mess up on the website and you can get the 20% or sometimes if you sweet talk them at the store, they'll give it to you, but, if you look at the ads they send you, it specifically says no trailers, welders, motorcycle lifts, or anything else "high dollar" that you'd ever want 20% off of. :-/ however, that wasn't always the case.

    I've got almost all of the materials to attempt a similar build on my used johnboat trailer. I couldn't see clear enough on your video what type of screws or bolts you used to go through the PVC and into the flat nuts above the springs ? When I bought my Unistrut , it only came with the spring and the flat nuts ....... No screws or bolts ? I couldn't tell if the hole you drilled into the top of the PVC was to get a long ratchet down ( if you used a bolt) or was just large enough to work a long screwdriver to a screw top ???
    Can you provide some light on this Please .......

    Hi venture tube I love this video!! One question for you: wether if it's 2x4 or conduit if it makes contact with the scupper hole would that be bad for it in the long run? Or should I try avoid setting the kayak on the scupper?

    • @VentureTube

      Yes I would avoid hitting the scuppers if possible. It's one of the weakest points on the yak. That's why I used the 3" conduit. Lots of support but nothing directly on the scuppers.

    Did the wheel bearings last long on it?

      I no longer own this trailer but I never had any issues with the bearings.

    Tony, do you think there's enough space for 2x PA 14's?

      If you vertically stacked them, yes...side by side, no sir

      Thanks man, your videos led me to a final decision of getting PA14. I have a utility 6x10 trailer that I will build a platform on top of it to accommodate 2 yaks. Do you have an instagram account?

    I went to order the trailer and they wanted to charge me $96.00 shipping not 6 bucks.
    This is an Internet order only, I tried calling to see if they had it in stock to avoid the 96 bucks but no luck they said internet order only. DAMN!

    • @VentureTube

      MrDeerhtr Why can't you order from the internet then??

    • @FatTailFishing

      What I'm saying is how did you get it for $6.00 shipping? They wanna charge me $96 bucks shipping from an Internet order.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  9 років тому +1

      At the time I ordered, I put in the coupon code and boom it was done. Shipping was $6. Why? Probably because sales weren't as high on that particular trailer as they are now. This video is somewhat old. A lot of people are using these Harbor Freight trailers to tow their kayaks and I guess it's just a matter of supply and demand my friend.

    Have you put bigger tires on the trailer yet? I was thinkin of gettin it for my yak but I travel a long ways some time and the small tire just wont cut it.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  10 років тому

      No I haven't yet.. I've made several 3 hr trips with the small ones at 70 mph and so far so good. On the tire, it says its highway rated but I would still like to have some larger ones...just not in the budget yet.. Thanks for watching!

    How do you strap it down

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  10 років тому +1

      Anderson Potter I just use two ratchet style straps. One of the front grab bar, and another across the stern of the kayak.

  • @fsusteve1
    @fsusteve1 10 років тому

    I have a Jon boat trailer that I'm about to convert like this, similar to MOfishyaker's, do you have any issue with that 3" sch 40 sagging at all? Just wondering if I should run one more section of uni-strut.

    • @VentureTube
      @VentureTube  10 років тому

      I wouldn't be concerned with it sagging. That stuff is quite rigid. You would probably have to load your boat up with a lot of weight to make it sag at all. Even if it does sag slightly, it will conform to the hull of your yak, but no worries, that conduit is strong. Good luck with the build!
