  • I've discovered the quickest way to go from New to rancid and abused (as the ESEE lovers say) when it comes to making your knife look like a trusted companion of many years rather than a safe queen that only sees the light of day when you sit down to watch Bushcrafting UA-cam videos and fantasize about actually being outside and doing stuff.
    Soooo, what did I do to this poor little guy? I used it as an oyster knife. I have hundreds of knives to choose from to do this task that was thrust upon me by my wife unceremoniously buying oysters for an appetizer treat. The only knife that I truly trusted to be able to handle this was the Izula or the Izula II. I opted for the Izula as it is the perfect handle size to be able to control the knife safely while doing this sketchy task.
    There was not a mark on it when I started. One dozen oysters later and this is what the final result is. I think I got all the black traction-coating flakes out of the oysters. Sure, hope so. They do look a lot like pepper.
    If you are a subscriber or fan of my channel, you will by now know that the Izula is my favorite knife. There are lots of reasons this is the case. Feel free to peruse my content for more videos about the Izula.

    Great to know it can handle the wear and tear of that heavy use and still recover sharpness with little effort.
    I tell my Honey all the time, it doesn't work unless you make the sound effects.
    Now I have proof in your video.
    Thank you for the good info, I'll keep shuckin' around for more.

    What's an oyster?
    There was once an old trick that the MNR (DNR to you maybe) up here l used to do back in the day. Their bosses would look at their snowshoes to see how many miles they had put on, based on the wear and tear on their wooden snowshoes. So the guys took to dragging them behind the truck down the backroads. Wore them down good, and apparently fooled their bosses.
    You just discovered the knife world version of that! 😁👍

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  Рік тому +1

      The only DNR I know is "Do Not Resuscitate" Every time I go into the doctors for a procedure, she waits until I'm out and then writes that on my forehead with a Sharpie.

      My ESEE knives generally are not used on food. I used my Izula this time because it was probably the most robust thing I have.

    I've been thinking about getting one of these. I really want to get a good edc fixed blade but I cant make up my mind. I like the tops mini bob, or mini scandi, Bradford guardian 3, this & I think they have another small knife I liked the looks of. Cant remember name tho. What's your favorite edc fixed blade? The small kizer harpoon looked pretty slicey too.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  Рік тому +1

      The Tops mini Bushcraft I found to be too big for EDC. I did not like the harpoon.
      If you watch more of my videos, you will know exactly what my favorite EDC is. It is the knife in this video! ESEE Izula. Or the ESEE Izula II. I’ve tried them all, and I keep coming back to these two.
      Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate all questions. I hope I was of help.

    I wonder what traction coating tastes like? I was watching one of you other videos where a commenter said your knives have never seen wood. I guess some folks can't help themselves. zane

      “My knives have never seen wood“ I beg to differ… I routinely change clothes in front of my knives.
      Traction coating taste a little like black pepper but with an acidic finish.
      Maybe I will start making videos of the knives I use the absolute most, so that that person can see they actually get used and see the light of day.

    👍 Well, I guess one can learn something every day, thanks for the tip. I’m sorry I have to ask, I tried not to but curiosity got the best of me, what do you do with 12+/- Izula knives? Are they all Izulas or do you have a couple Izula 2 knives in the group?
    You were correct the sharpening steel sound effects made this video pop.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  Рік тому +3

      Maybe I should have cleared that up in the video. I only have three right now. One of which is stainless. And one is an Izula II. I have used,abused, broken, modified and given away all the others.

      @@knifetimestory The Izula handle is too small for me so I like the Izula 2. I am amazed you were able to break these knives, that must be an interesting story. Perhaps you will consider a video on your modifications. I have now learned two things today, I did not know they produced a stainless version of either the Izula or Izula 2. Thank you.

    So, when you/I receive an Esee knife, there are Warning labels on the bag covering the knife, showing exposure to materials known to cause Cancer and birth defects. Do you happen to know what part of the knife does this?

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  Рік тому

      Yep. You are right about the coating. That is why I ordered an oyster shucking knife that night. So I will be ready for the next batch. But I cleaned out all the black stuff from the ones that we ate.

    • @clintwestwood3539
      @clintwestwood3539 Рік тому

      The coating is still toxic in a small form (it’s not enough to be deadly and get banned from the market, but it’s enough so you know that if you keep ingesting paint coat, it can harm you).
      That’s a big reason why I’d prefer esee and tops releasing uncoated versions, the coated version is just for jackasses that would return the knife the same day they got it because it rusts immediately when you have no idea how to take it care
