9mm over bite here. In my 20s and was finally able to afford braces for myself. They aren't covered under insurance due to being "cosmetic". I had the severe over bite where 2 teeth were pulled! Been just over a year of pulling teeth back. Apparently my teeth don't want to move fast at all. Ugh. But even with a gap I notice a huge difference and didn't realize my teeth needed a little straightening. 8k to do this, but we'll worth it!

I had braces and I asked the dentist to fix my overbite but once my treatment was complete I still had minor gaps from where he took out the two teeth at the top and bottom and still had an overbite. From here he just gave me retainers to wear to bed but I was certain that It was too soon to have my braces removed. The retainers btw barely did a thin for me. I later went back as told him look I still have these gaps, basically saying “wtf” and he just offered me another retainer which I was expected to pay for. Moral of the story, I still have an overbite years later and pretty angry that I paid so much for something that didn’t get properly fixed. Kind of want to sue

I'm on the severe overbite, makes my lips pouty. I started having my braces 2 weeks ago and my dentists recommended same procedure on this video. It will be done when I am in my 6th month of braces excited for the result 😇
I just got my braces yesterday and I’m so happy. I’ve been longing for these babies since I could remember. I’m a 21 year old adult now. I have a slight overbite and got my top teeth done first, I will get my bottoms done in August. Which also means rubber bands.

I have an overbite and severely crowded teeth on my lower jaw. Got 4 teeth extracted to begin with my braces journey. I'm 30 and I'm finally getting braces. I have been contemplating them since I was 18. But since my case needed 4 extractions, I couldn't gather the courage to go through with it and ended up procrastinating for over a decade. Now that I'm through the hard part, I'm already looking forward to the results. That's the only thing that keeps me going! I'd love to share my experience with people on the same journey :)
I too hav the same problem overbite on upper and crowded on lower...I too had to go under 4 extractions... Thank God I got braces at teenage itself ( now currently in braces)
I told my mom about this once and said nothing was wrong. I have over bite. My lower lip gets pressed by my upper teeth. I got used to it but when I become conscious about it I start to feel uncomfortable. Due to this my lower are always rubbing the back of my upper teeth. I'm in my twenties and hopefully get them fixed. It's pains me so much sometimes that I cant even smile properly due to this my mouth does a weird shape instead of the usual crescent shape.
@@obito3207 most patients take off some teeth to mostly make space. Usually it’s the two first premolars. In my case I took out 4 secondary molars bc I had to take off some and these were ruined already and didn’t wanna take off 4 healthy teeth.
i’m pretty sure i have the mild overbite because my two front teeth both stick out quite a bit and it’s about that space in between my teeth and i’m so excited to get them fixed :)
I got my braces on like yesterday for this same reason but is not so exiting afterwards my dentist says I literally can’t bite down with my front teeth it hurts as hell and my braces feels so weird in my mouth I don’t have my rubber bands yet not excited.
@@laibarukhsar7359 No, actually it's been an year now since my braces were removed. My bite is fixed. Just have retainers which I wear 12 hours a day. :)
I thought I had a mild or moderate overbite I went to my dentist she said it's severe and now I understand thank you for this now ik how my braces will work
What was your problem?? I have been suffering from open bite, my dentist put on braces to me 7 months ago, but everyone says once your braces will get removed , your bite will again back to previous situation , Is your bite ok now??
I was told I need braces for a slight overbite I had an to be honest it’s never bothered me my entire life, but now they told me I’ll be having them done I’m ✨terrified✨ So I’m hoping it goes okay
After a while you won’t feel it, after an adjustment it will hurt for a week or so but for me the gap between appointments is like 4 or 6 weeks so you won’t always be in pain :)
I have twin blocks and I’m almost done with my treatment, in February I’m getting the fixed braces for about a year , so far I’m really happy with my results 😁
I had a mild overbite when I was younger and braces corrected it slightly. I wasn’t so satisfied with the results because I was expecting no overbite left at all. I wanted teeths pulled so it can be even less prominent. I went to get a 2nd opinion too. Lol They said it wasn’t too bad and if it was pulled, I’d probably risk having a sunken mouth. About a decade later, Im glad I didnt get my teeths pulled. My mouth is already small enough and braces actually pulled back my tongue which has caused me to snore loudly now. 😩 I also have not been wearing my retainers so my teeth shifted a bit. I had a consult with an orthodontist and am hoping to get Invisalign in the near future and they said the plan would be to shift outwards so it can give more room for my tongue and help with my terribly snoring!
When I was pretty young (maybe around 11 or 12) my dentist at the time recommended that they do jaw surgery to correct my overbite and that it wouldn’t make sense to get braces until I had that done first. I’ve been able to tell from looking in the mirror all my life that my lower jaw is underdeveloped and misaligned. It makes my smile look different, pulling my mouth to the side, and my lips don’t sit evenly on top of each other. I feel like both sides of my face look very different, because one side literally has my jaw pushing out more than it should. Not to make it seem all dramatic - I doubt most people would really notice the difference - but I sure do. I overcompensated for it for _years_ by holding my jaw forward, but I think some of it’s still obvious even when I do. I really wish my mom had let me go through with that surgery when I was young and my bones were still growing so that I could have that alignment _and_ the braces out of the way. Now I’m almost 21, my self esteem is suffering because of it, and not only is the TMJ awful, I don’t even know if insurance will cover it as medical versus ‘cosmetic’ because what really bothers me is the way it looks. And because I probably won’t be able to get braces until I have it done. 🥲
We'd recommend visiting an orthodontist to find out the best treatment plan for you and learn more about your options. You're still young and have plenty of time. Good luck!

Dear Doctor, sending you a virtual heart❤ i was fed up off searching videos for this but none of them made this clear. I'm so happy. Thankyou so much🎍💐
I am currently wearing braces now. 5 yrs and counting… bcos i couldn’t afford to visit every month since my braces are paid monthly. I had overbite before and it really affected my confidence, I used to cover my face with a handkerchief. Braces are really expensive but gaining back my confidence is priceless 🥺🥺
Is your bite ok now? I have heard , once braces get removed , your bite again goes back to the previous situation, I'm really worried. Is this just a myth or a fact??
I have overbite and also have to pull my 2 upper teeth. It's been 2 years since I'm wearing braces and also wearing those elastics ubber band for maybe one month or less. My overbites are correcting rapidly after getting rubber bands. Thank you for sharing this video ☺️

There's also jaw surgery that I had to go through. It wasn't easy. If parents would take their kids to the orthodontist, there wouldn't be the need for this, as the orthodontist has growth to still deal with. Unfortunately, my parents didn't do a thing.
I’m so happy to finally know this. I always thought that bands bring your top jaw back in overbites but that would be bad for me as my jawline is not very seeable. Normally when I bite with my front teeth my jawline looks a lot more better bit I can’t chew because when I bring my front teeth forward I can’t chew with my molars but now I know with these bands I can correct my jawline and crooked teeth so thanks 🙏
My orthodontic surgeon reminded me of Hawkeye/Captain Pierce from MASH. My son's orthodontic surgeon reminded me of Col. Potter. Both really nice men with a fantastic sense of humor and a no nonsense approach to care. "Best care anywhere." Having my son watch this with me so he isn't so scared about going in to get braces done.
Oh my gosh, it means my overbite may not be so good after having braces, is so sad that at my age I am trying to correct my bite, and is kind of complicated. I have had my braces since back in August 2022 and I hope it gets corrected. Besides haven't been in pain and discomfort while eating I want to have a beautiful smile. Thank you!
Yes it is. These people are absolutely clueless. Extracting teeth and closing the gap will de facto pull the maxilla backwards resulting in a recessed face. Orthodontists have no idea wtf they're doing
Thank you so much for making this! The orthodontist was just talking to me about forsus springs (if I spelled that right) my last visit, and I wasn’t sure what they were for. This really helped :)
I'm on my 2nd round of braces to fix my overbite ( didn't wear my retainer 12 years ago ). Figured since mask / covid pandemic is going on, might as well fix my teeth. Good thing is I only have to wear them for a year !!!
i just got my braces off to fix an overbite. my bite is perfect now but i’m not sure if my retainers are doing it’s job. i just got the normal clear pair. are overbite retainers the same as any other retainer?
Please be aware there is also the surgery method where they break your lower jaw and push it forward to line up with your upper jaw. This is what happened to me and tbh it isn’t as painful or as gruesome as what I probably just made it sound 😂
Great comment! Jaw surgery can be used for large overbites, but luckily most patients can get their bite fixed without jaw surgery. Glad to hear that your surgery went well and got you a great result. We'll probably do a future video explaining more about jaw surgery and when it might be the best option. :)
i have an over bite and my first doctor had the amaaaazing idea of removing teeth ...both in the bottom and the top, so the result was.... im on my second doctor and i still have an overbite.

They shouldn’t remove any tooth 🦷 my teeth was over crowded I got braces last year and they use a spring to create space but no tooth been taken out and I’m glad for that
I have the same problem. My teeth are overcrowded but I'm reluctant to get the tooth extracted. Does using the spring to create space work for everyone? And how much of the improvement have you made so far?

Had a severe overjet (1 1/2 inches), wore braces for 6 years as a child with rubber bands, headgear and had 4 permanent teeth removed. The problem was the underdeveloped lower jaw in addition to the overjet. Had jaw reconstructive surgery in my 30s after again wearing braces for 2 years. This was 40 years ago. Titanium plates/screws were used. I was wired shut for 6 weeks but finally that debilitating overjet was corrected. The surgeon also gave me a silicone chin to even out my profile. No more TMJ, no more difficulty eating and biting and most importantly - no more being called names because of my severe overjet. Luckily my daughters did not inherit this disfigurement. I would have done this eariler if this surgical procedure were invented. First was done in the early 70s with bone removed from the hip or pelvis to lengthen the lower jaw. Titanium wasn't around at that point. I am now 74 and sooooo glad I had this done.
I have a severe overbite and I had to get elastics and I am working on the herbst appliance right now. It is such a pain and it gives me headaches every day.

Tragically for me, I came from an emigrating Latino family in where several members either don’t know proper oral care techniques or (like my parents, especially my mother…) ignore the rules. I did try to get braces early as I actually had an over bite with flat arch jawlines and a bottom incisor sticking out. But not only did my mother ignore proper dental techniques she also decided not to teach her kids including me how to brush and floss my teeth and inadvertently sabotaged my chances for braces before gum recessions(and bone loss…) happened.. as the orthos said that I needed to address the cavity issue first. Well…if they’re gonna say that why don’t they teach their patients how to brush their teeth, instead of making them figure out how to do it on their own, that just makes them lose a potential customer? Dumb idea for the orthos’ part…
There’s seriously needs to be a damn law for dentists to make patients who needs braces actually get them to do it like a next step process like wisdom teeth removal instead of leaving the options to patients..
I'm a South African, and i have had an overbite for many years and im only like 21yrs of age. First time hearing about an orthodontic free consultation - wish we had such in SA😢. Anyway, i really wish to get braces because my teeth are crooked, hopefully in the near future once im done with my studies.🙂
I had a slight overbite, everyone thought I looked cute with it. But I had slight gaps in some of my teeth and sometimes Overbites will hurt. Never got braces when I was younger, because my parents wouldn't let me. So now at 24 I have braces. Had them on since August 2020. My family didn't want me getting them. But my money, my choice.
I have an overbite and currently have something similar to this (1:32) in my mouth right now. Its not that but its something called a MARA, its basically the same thing but shaped more in a circle way you could say. I still have those things you put on before the Herps appliance but yeah.
So I should do elastics instead of tooth extraction? My overbite isn’t even that bad because I’ve been wearing a retainer for years at night to bring my overbite space less. Thank you for this video!
i didn’t have that much of an overbite however after i got braces it’s been around 5 months and my over bite has got so much worse but my orthodontist said that’s normal and they’ll come into place once the overcrowding is sorted out so hopefully it gets fixed soon
Sometimes if your teeth are crowded at the start you can't actually tell how pronounced the overbite is. Once the teeth are aligned it is easier to see what the actual bite looks like. But, like your doctor mentioned, this is normal and I'm sure they will have everything fixed by the time your treatment is finished.
Hey so, just wanted to ask here since I feel like I never totally understood my situation as a child. Not sure if it’s something you can answer. I was diagnosed with an overbite & wore braces for several years when I was young. Then when my braces came off & the changes reversed, it was discovered I instead actually had an underbite & only corrective jaw surgery would fix my problem. Were my parents totally bamboozled or is that a legitimate mistake for a professional to make?
Day 1: Got clear braces on upper teeth 8 hours before, now the pain has started in both frontal teeth and difficult in eating as the food is getting stuck in braces.
Great question! I younger patients who are growing there are some aspects of the face that can be changed. For instance, we can widen out the maxilla with an expander and we can use appliances (such as a Herbst device) that help to redirect growth of the mandible. Once you're finished growing (usually around 14-18) then there's usually not too much growth modification that can be done. There is still jaw surgery as an option once you're an adult, but growth modification of the jaws is usually not very effective once your growing years are finished. Hope that helps answer your question!
i have had my braces for 3 years now and honestly i think my dentist is... not so good. my teeth still aren't at midline, and the classes are still messed up. i still also have my mild overbite 🥲😭 watching this video thinking i might just take matters into my own hands and put rubbers on my teeth myself lol

I have a 1 cm overbite it's so bad and makes me so insecure. My parents didn't take me to the dentist earlier even though the dentist herself said that it's better to get it fixed at an early age. When i was 11 i had a tuition teacher who was a dentist and said that i should get it fixed when I'm 12 years old. My parents didn't get it fixed and now I'm 15 and my father said he'll finally take me to the dentist after my exams (probably in may/june) and I'm scared that it might either be too painful or not be able to be fixed Update: I'm 17 and I've finally got braces. They're expected to be removed in a year and I'm so excited to finally have normal teeth after waiting all these years
Teeth still move at any age and you should still have lots of good options available to you. If you watch our video the young lady with a sever overbite was late into her teen years before getting bite correction and she had a great result 👍
Hey Doc! I have a question about how the rubber bands are placed. My orthodontist placed the rubber bands as if they are being pulled the other way. Should I swap since I have a overbite or should I keep it. Thanks you!
We'd definitely recommend double checking with your orthodontist to make sure you're doing them properly. You don't want to wear them with the wrong pattern and have things move in the opposite direction. You can probably schedule a quick visit at their office, or even text some pictures of your rubber bands to your doctors office and they should be able to help you out
I don't have severe overbite but my orthodontist said I would have 4 teeth taken out, I got my 2 upper premolars out because at that time I didn't put much thought into it, but now I don't want 2 lower premolars to be extracted and even my parents are against it. I just don't want to take out healthy teeth out

hey doctor i have 9mm severe overbite (last case) i have put my braces but my dentist is saying that my teeth are not moving much fast according to my age i am 18y/o pls reply
How long have you been in treatment so far? Bite correction takes time, and most severe overbites take at least 2 years - so sometimes you just have to be patient for the process to work.
I dread this now, with an overbite and the bottom right pointy tooth sticking inward (touching tongue) instead of outward like it should. I know this will be a tediously long process.
I think I have a mild overbite. My dentist just made me use an elastic as of today but the alignment is different from the video shown. My alignment is kind of for fixing open bites. But my dentist told me, it would help the teeth to be pushed backwards. I know I should trust her, but I'm kinda scared how this would turn out. Is it possible to have different alignments of elastics?
Hi doc I have an overbite and straight looking teeth, I got mine braces like 3 months ago and I still haven’t gotten the forsus or rubber bands, my orthodontist said I have to wait like more months?
The first couple visits usually consists of aligning the teeth and getting things straightened out. Once the teeth are more aligned and you have a larger arch wire in, you'll be able to transition to rubber bands, and eventually forsus springs if they're needed. Sounds like your doctor is doing everything correctly so follow his instructions and everything should work out great :)

Is it necessary to have 4 premolars extracted? I noticed that the patient with the severe overbite only had her upper molars extracted. My ortho recommended for me to have all of my premolars extracted although my lower jaw seem fine. It is mainly my upper that suffers from crowding.
Thank you for a very informative video! I just want to ask since I have braces with overbite and extracted four teeth up and down. How many months or years would it take to bring it to the normal position? Hoping for your response. Thank you! ☺️

I'd love to share my experience with people on the same journey :)
same! I've been contemplating for a long time and I finally got the courage to get braces. 3 days in now
@@mentosmints2828 omg!!! Been two days since my upper jaw braces. They're giving me time to get used to them before I get my lower jaw braces.

It's pains me so much sometimes that I cant even smile properly due to this my mouth does a weird shape instead of the usual crescent shape.
do you know if an overbite causes your lip to be uneven because my lips are uneven and i feel like its because my overbite causes it
Does over bit needs need removal of teeth first for braces ??
That last result is gold. I have had my braces for 3 months now. I have overbite but not that severe.
Really? Her jaw is way too narrow now.
Are you still wearing braces??
How is your bite now??
@@laibarukhsar7359 No, actually it's been an year now since my braces were removed. My bite is fixed. Just have retainers which I wear 12 hours a day. :)

I have been suffering from open bite, my dentist put on braces to me 7 months ago, but everyone says once your braces will get removed , your bite will again back to previous situation ,
Is your bite ok now??
I was told I need braces for a slight overbite I had an to be honest it’s never bothered me my entire life, but now they told me I’ll be having them done I’m ✨terrified✨ So I’m hoping it goes okay
You'll do great and you'll be happy when your teeth are perfect when you're done!
1 month into my braces my facial structure has also improved too!!
How old are you?
I feel more calm about my overbite after watching this video.
Im overbite and I put my braces on four days ago. Still painful 😭
Is it painfull?
SAME
you'll get used to it after your first adjustment.
After a while you won’t feel it, after an adjustment it will hurt for a week or so but for me the gap between appointments is like 4 or 6 weeks so you won’t always be in pain :)
👿
I have twin blocks and I’m almost done with my treatment, in February I’m getting the fixed braces for about a year , so far I’m really happy with my results 😁
Her face transformation is osm...the whole face structure change just by teeth😁
Great insight! The teeth play a big role in the support of the lips and the entire profile. :)
This doctor is very thorough and flawless
Thank you!
Good luck!

There's also jaw surgery that I had to go through. It wasn't easy. If parents would take their kids to the orthodontist, there wouldn't be the need for this, as the orthodontist has growth to still deal with. Unfortunately, my parents didn't do a thing.

isn't removing teeth generally frowned upon and bad for facial development/airway/tmj?

Have you noticed a change in your lower jaw/jawline at all?
@@user-qo2jz4fb4w not really but I always had a speech impediment and after having braces, I can talk a little better now.
Does over bit needs need removal of teeth first for braces ??
i didn’t have that much of an overbite however after i got braces it’s been around 5 months and my over bite has got so much worse but my orthodontist said that’s normal and they’ll come into place once the overcrowding is sorted out so hopefully it gets fixed soon
Very informative thank you! Short and sweet and to the point.
Glad it was helpful!
What do you called of teeth that aligned with upper part, i mean not overbite and underbite, my midline teeth also are not align.
i looked this up at kriss ai and it said that it is referred to as a "midline discrepancy" or "dental midline misalignment."
Hello!
How long does it takes before the TADS are removed?
Thank you!
Day 1: Got clear braces on upper teeth 8 hours before, now the pain has started in both frontal teeth and difficult in eating as the food is getting stuck in braces.
I had a moderate to severe overbite so I had pulled teeth, nance appliance and rubber bands
This is so informative, hope to get braces soon. Thank you, Doctor.
Doctor, i have a question. Does getting braces changes the face structure as well? I just thought because it can move the mandible and maxilla.
