That's wonderful, I grew up in the years BC,before cable, and where I lived there was a TV station that had Sunday programming which included Laurel &Hardy, Shirley Temple movies, and Blondie and Dagwood, and Francis The Talking Mule with Donald O'Connor
Yeh! Nice! They already had color in those days, yes? IT IS BULL SH.T. I have the original copy om 16 mm. Now that's something. And this..? Is a very bad colorised copy. Gat NOTHING to do do with the original from those days. The feeling en lafters are completely GONE!
I may only be 17, but I absolutely love these guys. Laurel and Hardy were such a great comedy duo and their shows have and will continue to stand the tests of time.
Am soooo jeauslous of the original movie audiences [ of the 1940s], that saw this routine for the first time.....they musta screamed and screamed with laughter....if only a time machine were availed ta meeee...I'd showed dem wha comedy can and should be!!!!!!
Laurel making a grt effort in here more than in "shine on" hhh.... I love them , u know...as a lot. They always leave u with a long term serotonine true smile☺
I just saw that movie Stan & Ollie where they recreated this scene. Remarkable, Remarkable talents of the these 2 gentlemen. It gave me a whole different perspective on the Sheer Genius of their talents. May you be resting in peace gentlemen...making the angels around you laughing.❤❤
There's many a comedy duo, Abott & Costello, Deano & Lewis , Hay & Moffett, Morecambe & Wise, Ronnie Barker & Corbbet, etc etc but nothing will ever compare to Laural and Hardy.
Love it, certain parts of their films I remembered from a young un , like Stan drinking all the water from the barrel and I felt sorry for him, but been so young I didn't understand 😂 in the film 'Below Zero'
"Give the gentlemen the best in the house" saysJames Finlayson's character to the barman. In reality, "the gentlemen" are us: you, me and hundreds of thousands of L&H fans from Indiana to India, from sunny California to Sunderland on England's North Sea coast. And "the best" are Laurel and Hardy.
This is actually better choreographed than the Marx Brother’s mirror scene. Laurel gets slightly annoyed with Hardy’s great singing which is why he sings better.
They were inseparable comedians of all time? They started in the 1920s as a duo of hilarious, geniuses of slapstick of comedy. Ollie sure knows how to sing pretty good. He always has his Hitler's mustache. Stan was born in the southern part of London and Ollie was a Southerner.
All the years and i am still not sure if Stan actually had such a wide vocal range and sang that himself or if he was dubbed over by different singers for that
Only the first "serious" half of the song, when he's singing in duet with Ollie, that's actually Stan's voice. And that singing was really done live and on set without any pre-recording ! When Stan suddenly switches into the bass register, he is only mimicking while the singing is actually provided by Chill Wills, who also can be heard and seen in the dance scene, where he is doing the yodeling during the number with the Avalon Boys. When Stan switches in the soprano register, that's actually Rosina Lawrence singing, who played Mary Roberts, the good girl and heiress of the mine in the movie.
Yeah, some of the best comedy's are great because of expressions, it's not just about humour and mishaps, it's the expressions that make them stand out
They just don't make comedy like this anymore, such a timeless classic. Absolute genius performance so skillfully performed. Every time I watch this doesn't fail to amuse.
Two of the best comedic gods, their timing was superb........whether you watched them in the 20's or one hundred years from now, their appeal will endure.
Ollie had a great singing voice, much better than Stan. What makes this clip do funny is the expressions on Ollie's face, especially when stans voice changes to bass-baritone then to soprano. Stan was am inspired clown but Ollie was a truly great comic actor.
Still watch-able, and still funny, all these years later. Colour/color, or black and white, if I saw Stan and Oliver on the TV, I'd still watch them. (I have their collected works on DVD, so can watch at leisure) (For Hollywood: DO NOT REMAKE THEM. Just no. Classics are classic for a reason.)
Stan’s deep voice was provided by none other than Chill Wills. That was him doing the lead singing with the Avalon Boys in the earlier clip where the boys did their dance. Chill Wills went on to be a totally respected and later veteran Hollywood film actor in his own right.
Their last film was Utopia in about 1951. They may be long gone, but they will never be forgotten. Their comedy will continue to be passed down from generation to generation. Comedy legends.
The last film utopia, 1951, the lady in the film, Suzy delair is 104 years old, the lads especially Stan looked gaunt, he had an illness of some sort, they were both brilliant comedians.
....parents and grandparents duty to give their children and grandchildren lessons on wonderful humanity Stan &Oli still transport all over the world. World heritage! Heaven has splendid times with them!
Stan's voice suddenly goes to a baritone opera singer, then Ollie hits him on the head with hammer and suddenly Stan has the singing voice of a women, he finishes singing then passes out. LOL
I remember this getting to number two in the UK charts, only prevented from being no.1 by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody! It was always a joy to watch their old films being shown in the 1970s - the success of this song was an unexpected bonus.
One of my all time faves from their Movies, brought up in the 70's on Laurel and Hardy shown on BBC2 here in UK, and was shown for many years, along with Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton, but these were always my faves, couple of Christmases a go my brothers treated me to the boxset on DVD.
No comedians, ACTORS! Real actors, not like the shits of today called "stars". The real cinema is behind us and we will never find such actors and such beautiful comedies again. Wars, violence, vampires, etc. that's SHIT now. Neither this wonderful couple, nor Chaplin, Keaton and others greats, received any Oscars during their period of activities, if not one for Laurel and Chaplin and Keaton - (only honorific award) when it is given to shitty comedians like Dujardin and other such nullity. oliver Hardy never Oscar winner, why?
That's what you call real talent I remember as a child my mother and father used to sit us down to watch laurel and hardy films not like the crap today
Oliver hardy had a wonderful singing voice, the deep voice was the cowboy that you see at the start of the song, called Chill Willsthat sang earlier in the film, outside the saloon, the falsetto was Rosina Lawrence. Chill Wills was a member of the Avalon Boys, the group that are singing outside the saloon when Laurel and Hardy dance earlier in the film.
The comedy kings at work this time singing there was no end to their talents. Theres only one Laurel and Hardy I can watch them over and over again they never fail to make me laugh.
The best comedy actors ever..period..

Love this. I still have the 7 inch single with honolulu baby on the b side. It was no.2 in the U.K. charts in 1975. What a great time for music lol

I have too . The mountains are awesome . I found some lines together . But no lonesome one
I knew this song by heart when I was little from watching Laurel and Hardy with my dad every Sunday morning. Thanks for posting!

Love you guys, you make life better leaving us this to watch. Love Sharon xxx 💛💛💛
They remade this scene perfectly in the Biopic, 'Stan & Ollie'.
The way Ollie's expression changes on a dime when Stan's voice drops into the bass register...it makes me laugh every time.

I found the original sheet music of this song at my local thrift store - from 1913. I googled to hear it and up pops this You Tube video. Too funny!
There's many a comedy duo, Abott & Costello, Deano & Lewis , Hay & Moffett, Morecambe & Wise, Ronnie Barker & Corbbet, etc etc but nothing will ever compare to Laural and Hardy.
Don't Forget Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.
Made me laugh out loude , Evan today, absolute classics. God bless them both.
Pure Laurel and Hardy gold. I never get tired of the song. Love let me call you sweetheart from Swiss Miss should have been a hit single
Brilliant performance! Laurel and Hardy will be with us for as long as we will have comedy
Somehow these two giants of comedy seem still to be alive, that's how big they are.
So good. My all time favorite. It’s interesting how many of these vaudeville era comedy greats vere also musically talented.
It’s so sad to know that two people you truly love is dead before u even know them
