This is a great movie short. Thelma Todd was so beautiful. Poor Thelma at this point only had about 4 years left to live. Zasu Pitts ended up with a long career. And a cameo by Laurel and Hardy, Wow!
This was Thelma Todd and Zazu Pitts best short together. And the cameo at the end of Laurel and Hardy was a great payoff . If you haven’t seen this short, I highly suggest jet check it out. 😂
Absolutely wonderful! The two great comics, beautiful women and the highly underated comic genius Billy Gilbert. Everything included with Zazu Pitts! Thanks! 🌝😂🌈🇺🇸
That was Billy (William) Gilbert, a Hal Roach regular who also appeared in notable Three Stooges shorts. "See that buttonhole? _Rrrrrats_ come out of it.... ."
As the president of the Bring Back Dangerous Carnival Rides organization, no actor was seriously injured in the making of this short. If they were injured, the studio disavowed any and all of their actions.
I disagree though , they resemble more like a female Martin & Lewis. Thelma Todd could sing in real life and was good looking just like Dean Martin. Pitts was the one overlooked in terms of beauty and always needed to be babysat by her partner just like Jerry Lewis.

I must admit Thelma Todd us hysterical...every expression on her face of disgust with Billy Gilbert's character is so funny. The carnival background music seems to be the classic tune of the era "Sonny Boy."
Glad you liked it! Please note that we have rights to show this movie granted from the producer. You'd need to clear it before showing on another channel.
We had our version of CI here in AUstralia called Luna Park. There was one right on the shoreline of North Sydney right next to the Harbour Bridge and another in Melbourne. Absolutely loved it as a kid. We had everything in this movie. there was also a ride that spun so fast you stuck to the wall and the floor dropped away. There was also a house that when you entered, you sat down on a bench and the house rotated around you. From outside, as the house rolled upside down there was an enormous spider underneath. I remember the penny arcade and the ghost train. SO much fun just catching the ferry from Circular Queue (we pronounced it "Kee") Sadly multistory apartments have been built next to it and the eternally and eagerly offended have complained about the noise. Double glazing might solve that but not stupid whingers.
They did appear, and if you actually read the post it is billed as "On the Loose (1931), Thelma Todd, Zasu Pitts, Laurel and Hardy, Pre Code Comedy Short. The actual film credits ( 00:16 ) show Zasu Pitts / Thelma Todd (Pitts was a 'bigger name' than Todd at the time), the title (On The Loose), then "with John Loder, Claud Allister, William Gilbert". There is absolutely no mention of Mr. Laurel nor Mr. Hardy in the film credits. What, again, was your petty complaint? Do you also complain if given free dessert after a meal?

@@-oiiio-3993 There was a mention of L and H in the title of the video on UA-cam and saying that I was disappointed that they didn't have bigger parts shouldn't be hard to understand since they were so much fun to watch in anything they were in. The original lady comedy duo...those that followed who were on a regular basis were like Lucy and Ethel, Lavern and Shirley. maybe Rhonda and Mary, Thelma Todd worked with Charley Chase, but even more important with the Marx Brothers in two films Horse Feathers and Monkey Business. ad she lived think she would have been a bigger star like Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow, both of whom these ladies had their lives cut short as well.
Two of the Greatest Comedy Duos !! Those rides at Coney Island was dangerous 😂😂 Good short! Thanks

Wow these Great movies, are nearly -(can you believe it ?)-100 years old,& still giving us Laughs !!
At that time, Mr Laurel said that the Motion Picture Industry was still in it's infancy.
Sobervio
It's always great to see Billy Gilbert show up in one of these!
That is a marvellous glimpse of what Coney Island was like in it's prime.
@@claireseyeviewonredbubble wern’t it the place?
amusement parks and funhouses were inspirational…
Wildwood NJ, had at one time, all the same entertainment.
@claireseyeviewonredbubble "Coney Island" scenes were actually filmed at the Pike Amusement Park in Long Beach, California.

Rare example of Hal Roach directing, and Billy Gilbert being billed as William Gilbert!
Great film.Even with an appearance by Laurel and Hardy. 😀❤️
I love Thelma Todd!!!

We recently stopped by Thelma Tood's restaurant on PCH, it was boarded up for years, but it was good to see it's being restored,👍
I like the owner of the dress shop. This is a great video !!!

Excellent, I had never seen this before and thought I had seen all their cameos
Amazed by this perfectly crystal-clear print. Looks like brand new. Thanks for posting!
My pleasure!
Hot Toddy was so beautiful ^^ 🥰
Immensely.
Her images preserved for the ages at less than 30 years of age.
Wonderful ending.
Viva Hal Roach Studios.
Zazu had a nice shape to her.
The rides must have been at the Santa Monica Pier. Very funny short!
They were like Laurel and Hardy, one shy, and one confident.

A fun short that's short on Laurel & Hardy. Thank you for sharing it.

I went to Coney Island in the 1950s and yes the rides and things were dangerous. They had clowns with electric paddles to slap you on your arse with.
1930s Hollywood is my favourite.
There’s another comedy short of Thelma Todd and ZaSu Pitts that also has Spanky McFarland in it.

Fascinating this was
The young boy got his first taste when he retrieved that lollipop .
Before the Hayes office and censorship.
Man, Martin Short has sure been in a lot of movies!
Brilliant, never seen that before. 😂
The music at the beginning is similar to that in "Our Gang" or "Little Rascals" films. Hal Roach used the same music everywhere.

I think of the boys had a bigger roll they would have over shadowed the main actors. Nice to see them just as it is for a cameo.
