Don't stop! keep going. what's the worst thing that happens? it breaks, and you do it again. But, a warning Wil Robinson! It starts just like your shop. And it becomes this!

I’m definitely from the try to save it camp. I’m glad to see you working on it. If nothing else but to learn. By the way congratulations on the weight loss, that’s your most important project.your doing great 👍 👍

It feels like the weight loss is most important because it means I can fit behind the steering wheel of the Jeep without having to modify the wheel house and move the seat back! 😅

There is a third vent hole on the rear axles Dana 41 and 44. It is on the drivers side tube facing back towards the middle, that is your actual vent for the differential. Seems like the PO took it apart decided to not use it and put it together loosely for the hubs and shaft nuts to come off that easy. Learning is really valuable and if you really appreciate working on old Willys, you have fun while you do this kind of stuff. That does look salvageable, sure it needs quite a few parts but it can be fixed. For the carrier bearings, you really want the special puller they make, sometimes when they are really stuck hitting on the shaft helps a lot. Looking forward to what you find once it's all clean. Looks good so far in my opinion!

Did you say asbestos for real? If the answer is yes, you shouldn't be messing with the dust.
I love your patience and resourcefulness.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos

Many types of brake shoes and pads contained some asbestos up through the '90s, I think. At least that's how it is in the US. I didn't really disturb the material on the shoes themselves and there was so much mud in both drums that the majority of whatever was in there was likely encapsulated in the mud. It's not an ideal situation for anyone dealing with brakes. (That's why they banned it in the early 90s.)

Good job..... Throw a lunch box locker in it while you're in there.
