    Were you running the 2600k at stock settings or OCed? If OCed, that's hardly a straight generational comparison considering the Silicon Lottery comes into effect at that point. Either way, you were cranking games to Ultra and the 870 was still more than playable in most instances, so if you can get one on the cheap, it's still a potentially good deal. I ran an 870 until 2020 and only upgraded because a friend gave me a 3770, and the real world differences in performance were negligible. My eldest child currently uses the 870 and it plays all the games she wants to play just fine.

    Old video but.. Have a 4770k@4.5ghz under AIO. Vcore is 1.26V. Run fine! 30 degrees idle. Cinebench (last one) 70-75 degrees. All day softs and games...45-60 degrees. A good one! Paired with a 1060 6gb and soon a 1070ti. CPUZ score put it on 7700k non OC level!

    I've got a both of these CPUs. My secondary PC that I use mainly for laser engraving has a regular 4790 paired with a Fury Nano. My main rig has a 4790k @ 4.8 with a Nitro+ 5700xt- the overclock makes a noticeable difference. I love my main rig but it is showing it's age and its mostly maxed out- it can handle a slightly more powerful GPU, but not by much. The 4790k was probably the best buy I've ever made on a PC part, I'm still happy with it. I am building a new rig here soon though, just need that $$ I'd have liked to have seen 1440p (my resolution). The CPU makes less of a difference at higher resolutions so say at 4k I could probably still use most of a 4080 even though at 1080p it'd probably be around 50% usage. Nice video either way though!

    3:19 each 100mhz boost is for 4770k 17,8 fps and for 4790k 14,5 Fps boost. So 4770k 4,5ghz would be very close to a 4790k 5,0ghz Fps difference: 5 Fps Very interesting if the calculated makes sense.

  • @matthewb1601
    @matthewb1601 Рік тому

    I kinda wish you normalized for the RAM speeds, and then had a separate RAM OC data point. My rationale is that the 4770k, when OCed, is very close to the speed of the 4790k; however, there is a significant disparity in their two data points. This disparity between an OCed 4770k and a stock 4790k could be attributable to the RAM OC the 4770k has compared to the stock 4790k. Not going to ask you to do this all over again three years after the fact. But perhaps you would consider having a look at this topic with a dedicated RAM overclocking video for the DDR3, DDR4, & DDR5 generations?

    Good video, nicely laid out and easy to follow, though the choice to only test at lowest settings does unfortunately leave out some context. I run a 3770K (still) with 2666mhz ram and a 1070 ti, playing at 1080p. I'm the sort of gamer who isn't all that fussed about hundreds of fps, if it means a poor visual experience. I moved from consoles to pc for max graphics settings, andI'd rather have that at 50-70fps personally. With max settings on shadow of the tomb raider, for example... except ray tracing because the gpu does't support it... I'm 99% gpu bottlenecked. I can overclock to 4.7ghz, but I still remain at 99% gpu bottleneck, with no fps difference at all. I'd be surprised if going to a 4790K, leaving everything else the same, would change that bottleneck factor for me, or give much more fps, even if I have fancied one for ages. Actually, just to take my own advice, for further context I've also done these same tests with a xeon, the e5-1680v2, which is effectively an 8c/16t version of the 3770K, and I get the same fps and bottleneck figures, even with the same ram and that cpu running at 4.4ghz. I haven't tested at lower settings myself, though I expect I'd see the same trend as shown in the video. Maybe in future comparison videos you could show lowest, medium, high and ultra settings, so that viewers get a more granular view of where they'll stand in terms of upgrades, relative to how they like to game

    Mid 2023 here. OG build many years ago was an i5 4590 and Msi gtx 960. Ended up having to spend an extra 80 on ram, extra 300 on a used 1070ti. Lasted me very well even with 1440p till about a couple years ago. Still runs most games decently. CPU intense games/unoptimized releases of today (MW2) is pressuring me to commit to a LGA 1700 build. So ready to drop a couple stacks for a new build. However I could end up only having to spend a fraction of that by upgrading to one the best cpus LGA 1150 can offer. With good cooling, it might be a good solution till the next gen of motherboards/CPU’s drop.

    Hi there, thank you so much for your videos and testing. I just upgraded my GPU and RAM from an AMD R9 280XFX to an nVidia GTX 1080TI and 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM and in CSGO, I don’t even get close to these numbers you have here. The highest FPS I achieved on the benchmark map by uLLetical was like 308. I’ve tried everything from settings to unparking my cores and I am utilizing less than 50% of the GPU and CPU so it doesn’t make sense to me. Perhaps an OC to 4.6 would help. I’m new to overclocking but it seems like, I’ve been having trouble achieving anything stable with my 4790K on a Gigabyte Z97x Gaming 5 motherboard plus Arctic 240mm liquid cooling. Did you overclock through BIOS, or with software like Intel XTU? I’m worried that it could be the RAM that’s causing instability since I bought the sticks separately, but I keep getting shutdowns or blue screens randomly when I have an overclock active and an XMP enabled (they default at 1600mHz even though they are spec’d for 1866mHz). 15 instances of MEMtest running 2GB each over night showed zero errors on the RAM. I know this is two years later, but any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

      I did this with a similar feature on my z87-a motherboard. It overclocked my i5 4690k to 4.1 ghz. Later I tried manually overclocking and I got to 4.5 ghz with lower temperatures than the 4.1 auto overclock. I've read this is typical of auto OC features so you might want to try doing it manually.
