Thinking the best years are behind me is very true. Me and hubby are 62 and 67. Yet we work still on our homestead like we're in our 40's. We know hard times are coming. So we keep moving to be able to withstand the hard times. We are planning to move closer to our children when we can't do this work so much. Regardless of age people need to wake up and realize that these times are right around the corner or one disaster away. People have quickly grown complacent after the last 5 years. We don't travel long distances. We don't take vacations. We don't spend money on needless things or entertainment events. We live frugal. Save money. Work hard. And enjoy the fruits of our labor. But all around me I see people struggling to pay bills. Yet they buy new cars, sports event tickets, take vacations, eat out often and such. Deeper and deeper into debt they go. I just dont get it.
We are in our 60’s & 70’s…we also live simply…many of our “friends” & family continue to go into debt, buy new cars, travel trailers, new homes & vacations. Many of these people are the same age as we are. I have no idea how they will ever get out of debt. 😢😢
I just got done foraging dandelions and plantain's. I dehydrate them, grind them up and use the powder as a nutrition booster in almost every meal and smoothie 💯🙌🤩
Hard times are already here for a lot of people, with the housing crisis and inflation, some people are literally surviving with the use of credit cards, those surviving with use of credit cards won't be able to prepare for what's coming.
I know a lot of people who think that talking about these things is depressing and stressful. They want to talk and think about only fun and happy things. But the truth is that it's better to discuss these things now when times are still relatively okay than to ignore reality and wait for it to hit you ten times harder right when it'll be impossible to prepare for it. Talk about stressful!! Well, that'll be ten times more stressful!!
I completely agree about hard times coming. I feel times are difficult already, but they will get so much worse. I felt since the beginning of covid hitting that things would never be the same and would get remarkably worse. I started back then adding a bit extra to the pantry. I already do what gardening I can, preserve anything I can get my hands on, forage on our property, and go to our local farmers market. At 61 years old and husband being 65, we drive team truck and do what we are able to on our property to set ourselves up. Even with my bad health problems and my sometimes clumsy nature (fractured my big toe last week), I am still out there pushing hard to get done what I can. Wild grapes are starting to bloom here in west central Wisconsin and the blossoms smell amazing!! Looking forward to wild grape jelly!!
Like this topic. Food is just about everywhere. People look at their lawns and see the weeds. I look at their lawns and see salad. (If they don’t spray).
@ModernRefugee Ditto!! I'm trying to be as organic as possible but my neighbors (share fence with 3) spray crap on their grass. One even has his trees sprayed for bugs. Dude, that all blows down onto our food! SIGH. He was here first so I've not really got any right to say anything but it still grinds my gears.
Back in 2010 I remember it being said food shortages are coming. I had already started my edible landscape.. thank goodness I have been building it up along with medicinal plants.. but.. I have scoped out from what I can see from the road within so many miles of my home.. wild apple trees, mulberry, elderberry, blackcaps, blackberries, raspberries, ramps, black walnut.. learning this has help me put up lots of pie filling, juice, jam and jellies, medicine. I have been planting veggies on and off for the past 7-hrs. I will continue to plant over the next week.. watching the blackcaps closely since we have had so much rain, sun and heat looks to be a bumper crop this year with almost all the berry bushes. I keep learning new skills because I know hard tomes are already here for most of us.
Whenever out foraging, it's common for people to ask about what I pick. Berries are obvious, but many don't know about all the garlic mustard and wild amaranth. Some don't pick it, but at least they know now.
Funny how you say that you think the best days of your life are behind you - my mother (born 1926 during the depression) used to say that she was glad she was born then because her life only got better as time went on. Thanks for giving some more things to think about.
All the preps, no matter how much is gathered, will run out at some point. We will have to figure out how to fend for ourselves. Everyone really will need to Cooperate with one another & be United so that we can fend for ourselves better. We Must UNITE.
Thanks for this "hard" for some, but much needed message! Our country needs a reality check. Many won't survive hard times. I feel sad for those that can't see (don't want to) or won't admit that not so good things are happening, and only to get worse. All we can do is be vigilant and be prepared for anything, at any time, as much as we can.
Thank you sir. Agree 100%. Our way of life today is so fragile one small issue causes a huge ripple in the chain. Know for a fact just by talking with friends family and coworkers that they are completely blind to what's going on. Y'all need to start getting ready and praying. Have a blessed day.
You are so right! Most people are not clueless. But, WILLFULLY clueless. I have family members that way. My sister is raising one of her grandchildren. I said...what about her (the grandbaby)? She doesn't have a choice if you don't want to live in a world like that. That is so selfish and unfair. But, that's the selfish world we are living in now. If you have small children depending on YOU and you do nothing because "you don't want to think about it", YOU are SELFISH! My opinion. Sorry for the rant.
I have so much information saved on my computer...whether its training in various healing modalities, info on nutrition, homeopathic software needed for solving cases, extensive info on prepping stuff of all kinds, and on & On & on. At some point I need to print out pages & pages....books & books. I've already switched to taking notes on trainings, videos, etc, with pens/pencils & have a notebook for each topic......Because of the threat to our infra-structure. Also, this info needs to be saved for those of future generations.
There are sections in the USA where the sewage pipes are falling in already. Good points. Can't disagree with you. Wish I could get through to my family members. They think everything is just fine and going to be even better in the future. People who only listen to main stream media are so brainwashed and clueless. Even worse, they're told not to listen to us because we're nutjobs. My son lives 500+ miles away and I'm thinking about stocking a storage unit close to his home. Going to keep praying for wisdom, good health, & safety for all my loved ones. Blessings 💙

Most are blind and believe our governments will help us. On another note the amount of blossoms up here is record amounts that alone is a sign .. Please keep doing what you are doing you are helping .. thank you so much again
Just found out something from comments in regards to ticks and chiggers. Ticks...can wrap sticky tape (sticky side outwards) at your ankles or over the cuffs of your jeans and they'll get caught in the tape. Another one is to dilute some pine Sol with water in a spray bottle and periodically spray your shoes and cuffs of jeans ( for this that are non chemical types just soak pine needles to get the same results). Chiggers ...this was after the fact but it might also be a deterrent...a couple of different oils if you have them, lavender, eucalyptus peppermint on the site to get rid of the rash and itch but might work to dilute some in a spray bottle and spray that of clothing to repel. Please note eucalyptus cannot be sprayed on pets. Hope this helps.
@@suzannebaker725 We have chiggers so bad here! I prefer going barefoot but I don't think that's going to be feasible this year. (We moved last fall...never dealt with them back home) My in-laws keep telling me to spray "we don't get ticks, chiggers, no-see-ums, hardly any mosquitoes" but I tell my MIL we don't want chemicals near us and our food. "Yeah but..." sigh. She means well....
@ModernRefugee We have them in the tree's When I'm bush hogging along the woods or on the trails I get several on me. I need to spray with permethrin on my clothes before going out.But haven't been doing it. It seems to work good.
Whatever may be around the corner, and we do our best to be prepared, it is highly possible it will be something we never even considered, and getting blindsided would be the result. Prepping requires logical thinking but we could end up dealing with something totally illogical.
Part of modern man's problem is we don't think about how life was when we lived in caves. Most of our thoughts were of finding enough food & water to survive & avoiding being part of the food chain or being killed by another clan. Then there were accidents, illness, protecting the family, & untimely death to worry about. Civilization, as we know it, only came about from cooperation, innovation, & remaining in high defensive mode.
There are also some who have at least *some* idea about all this but adopt a more nihilistic, fatalistic attitude towards it. It's hard to watch people being so pessimistic and hopeless, even if you understand why they feel the way they do.
I was very busy for this whole 3 or 4 years, Getting Ready.... Last year i went heavily bad into Canning and 3 freezers full. One freezer i filled 2 times and SMH events in my house trashed them all! Organic, meats, flour, you name it, ALL ruined. I got Teed Off and bout 2 other freezers... My Ex was "helping" by weed whacking and cuts an extension cord hoing to my pool? Shorts all power to garage AND blew the motor on my outside freezer! 😮 So i got another Used one for there and have it filled with large boxed things from a Supplier and loads of peppers. Then things got moved around out there? And the freezer is burried under masses of heavy flooring boxes! I cannot get in it, without unloading all of it! 😂 (Means theives cant either!) I am concerned about the seal being ruined, by the excessive weight... Some will ask, So why don't you take it off then? Because i AM Crippled. My leg cant handle weight! I already unloaded ALL those boxes and stacked them myself. It broke more off my.busted leg! I Pay very heavily, when i Try to BE like a Normsl person! Defy Odds. My time to Defy Odds ended years sgo, BY Defying odds in Stubborn Superwomsn Style! 😢 So i know it needs moving. Actually they need Installing in house! But try to find anyone Willing!!! I try and try. I have a trashed Bathroom, because i was being Scammed Again! Stopped them midway in a Reno! No door, flooring, tub, drain connection to sink and hole in the wall, plus pipes sticking out all over! IF i was Able too? I would have finished it myself!! I know how to Do some things... Knowing does not Help when you cannot Do! Anyway, the result is, i have a lot of Preps and Equipment now..Foods. Make my own vinegars and Cleaners. Have been making salves for my leg and tinctures for the rest of me. Exploring plants right on my property! I dont use Pesticides.... Added to my.Food Forest with blueberries, Saskatoon Berries, Apple Tree. Found out the trees and bushes are edible and medicinal. All the weeds are awesome! I have lots of that! Lol
been prepping since about 95'. just seeing what I might need extra here and there. I would have thought that it would have happened a while back. some things that are "extra" are planting seeds in the forests around you. its obvious now that the food supply is in trouble. people can assume why but the assumption won't feed you. plant seeds on paths then learn what you can eat. PRINT information. don' rely on electronics' to teach you. final is so important is to practice. you have a tent but never put it up. you can build a rocket stove with cinder blocks but never tried to light a fire...
It could be doom and gloom soon from anything, or it could be nothing much different in the immediate future where we just keep on keeping on. Still, really good to be prepared, with good advice about knowing your immediate area. Thanks MR.

We got power back this morning, so we're good. I live in Tx, and it's hot and humid. I was able to keep the refrigerators and freezers going, but I didn't have enough power to mitigate the heat for us. This was a real wake-up call, and I learned some important lessons. I had "stuff," but I hadn't gotten around to setting it all up and testing it. I'm 67 yrs old, and the power has never been out this long before. I really appreciate your videos!
For sure there’s this feeling that bad things are coming, it’s just hard (impossible) to tell how bad so each person has their interpretation. As a prepper born and living in the Third World, I believe it will be hard just not as gloomy much less a doomsday, I’ve come to realize that modern civilization is more resilient and flexible than we think. No doubt it has its flaws and everything is overstretched but this is a transition period, a few steps back while humankind prepares for a new era of prosperity. We should prepare for the inevitable shocks coming from these changes, but it’s never as bad as we imagine.
@@ModernRefugeeI hope too, maybe that’s too optimistic but I’m basing that assessment on history, there have been dark periods throughout times but humankind has still advanced and look where we are, it’s not perfect but better for more people than it’s ever been in the past. Every time the system changes there’s turmoil, even war and death but that cannot last long and every new system has improved upon the one it replaced.
I have done that. I even did a video on bringing wild raspberries to my yard. That’s the one good thing about learning the local plants. You may already have some growing in your yard, that you didn’t realize are beneficial.

Now back to getting ready for calamitous tultumatious dark difficult & interesting times. At 74 yo I have a lot of good years to survive. From the 👍. Best
well Sir!!! You are correct it is coming and some are waking up! Yet most might aware but have decided to bury their heads in the ground. Everyone today is looking for the easy way out period !!!! Most are blind and believe our governments will help us. On another note the amount of blossoms up here is record amounts that alone is a sign .. Please keep doing what you are doing you are helping .. thank you so much again
Thank you.
Hey MR, It is amazing what wild edibles are out there. If they are in season. Just like the ticks and chiggers.😢.
Yup, gotta watch that tall grass. Especially if there are deer.
@ModernRefugee We have them in the tree's
When I'm bush hogging along the woods or on the trails I get several on me.
Thank you for this video. Your message was well taken and so right on the mark!
Thank you for the info. God bless you and yours. So ay safe.
Thank you sir! We appreciate your help and sharing this wisdom! Keep up the good works and May our Father keep you and your loved ones safe!
Mike & Cindy from Eearts sent me here, glad to have found you. ✋ Subscribed 😊
Welcome!
Suspicious observers please watch !!!!
I have been following them for years. I even have his app. Good channel.
I agree 100% with you on everything you said
There are also some who have at least *some* idea about all this but adopt a more nihilistic, fatalistic attitude towards it. It's hard to watch people being so pessimistic and hopeless, even if you understand why they feel the way they do.
Love this format of video!
Thank you
I was very busy for this whole 3 or 4 years, Getting Ready....
So i got another Used one for there and have it filled with large boxed things from a Supplier and loads of peppers. Then things got moved around out there? And the freezer is burried under masses of heavy flooring boxes! I cannot get in it, without unloading all of it! 😂
(Means theives cant either!) I am concerned about the seal being ruined, by the excessive weight... 😢
So i know it needs moving.
Lol
Yes, learning as much as you can about your local area is always a good idea!
been prepping since about 95'. just seeing what I might need extra here and there.
Good chat. Thanks
It could be doom and gloom soon from anything, or it could be nothing much different in the immediate future where we just keep on keeping on.
Still, really good to be prepared, with good advice about knowing your immediate area. Thanks MR.
👍👍
I agree with every word you said, I'm in a crappy urban section. So tell me my friend where can i possibly store rations safely from looters. just found your channel and very informative, I consider myself a survivor , Yes we're in for a hell of a ride, especially the way thins have gone in the past and are going now and will be going. my saying , TRUST NO ONE.
I did a video on hidden preps, a quick search should locate it.
I had to press three or four times to give you a thumbs up just now… maybe it’s my phone or maybe it’s THEM🤷♂️
I enjoy your content, keep up the good work and try to remember that you’re light years ahead of most people and it’s all going to be alright… or it won’t 😆
Here in Australia where I live black Berry is rampade here along the road sides
Make sure you have a vehicle that an older diesel you can always filter use motor oil and cut it with gas or diesel and run it it's called black diesel in case anyone wants to get into it
Hard times been here hard times been here since the day I first started working
I think we are heading for third world status, &, yes, a lot of casualties due to the loss of basic infrastructure.......whether or not war comes into USA.
You can plant in hay and straw bails so why not grass clipping thats what hay is grasses so I am growing potatoes in in a card board box. And its working to grow food so I only have to worry about getting light but I put newspaper in the middle so sunlight will be blocked.
Never ever ever get on the bus.
I'm just now coming off a 5 day power outage. Heaven help us if we have a major one.
I hope all is well with you guys.
I thought this was going to be a scenario video lol
Fred have you tried locust flowers? I wanted to last year but they didn't flower with our drought. I've heard they are awesome.
No, but I will look into it.
@@ModernRefugee hoping to try them this year, we have plenty of rain. One popular forager said its his favorite wild edible.
Subbed…
Welcome!
I hope you are right.
@@ModernRefugeeanyway, thanks for the videos and great insights, top stuff as always
@@stoicfabianwtfradio1398 thank you.
MR, with my bad hearing, I couldn’t hear how long you’ve had your channel. How long now? Thanks!
Since December of 2018
@@ModernRefugee thanks!
Don't forget your acorns
Eats zebugs 🐛! Y’all!
There are better things to eat than that out in the bush.
Bicycle John type folk will survive what is coming
You should be propagating all of that and bring it back to your homestea.
I have done that. I even did a video on bringing wild raspberries to my yard. That’s the one good thing about learning the local plants. You may already have some growing in your yard, that you didn’t realize are beneficial.
