Get books!!! If you lose access to the internet you need books to get information on gardening, cooking, healthcare when there isn't a doctor available, mechanical, home repair, plumbing, the list goes on and on. Best source is a used book store or yard sales. People have become so complacent that they just google everything and they've tossed their family library. What are you going to do when you can't google??? A lot of the books that grandma had are at the used book store, scoop them up, they could save you.

My husband picked up some inexpensive liquor for barter. I put it up in 2 oz/shot containers. We figured most people won't need more than that for cooking. It'll make 2 drinks if that's what you want. He also loaded up on fruit to make flavored vodka. Thinking of bartering again. Also, when leaving a barter event, be careful how you go home. Watch for someone following you, take a different route. You don't want someone coming behind you, stealing whatever you are bringing home. One other suggestion, don't trash those old clothes, sheets, towels, etc. IF/WHEN you run out of toilet paper, cut those items into squares to use. These can be washed & are going to feel a LOT better than newspaper, etc.

gardens. I am buying canned veg's. & canned meats.
Don't forget to have a manual can opener in case you lose power
Didn't think about coffee. That will be on my list for tomorrow.

I put something on my prep list. I wear eyeglasses to read fine print. I have several pairs of prescription eyeglasses. BUT! In a pinch I can use those Dollar Tree $1 eyeglasses. If my glasses get lost in a disaster, I know I have at least two pairs of the $1 reading eyeglasses, just in case. It might seem like an odd thing to put into a bug out bag, but I will be able to read the longest, fine print document that FEMA may toss at me. I also keep copies of my home owners, flood, life and auto insurance coverage documents. I keep one in my bug out bag the other in a ziploc bag INSIDE the freezer. A home freezer will float and should survive a small home fire or be big enough to find after a tornado. I make a video of my home and contents to prove to my insurance of what I used to have for replacement. These are just my extra prep things and items that may help someone else.

    3. MULTIPLE USES
    4. Frying
    5. Season cast iron
6.. Cook eggs, soup starter, keto friendly, stirfry, baking, ect...
    7. Grease door hinges and wooden drawers
    8. Moisturizer
    9. Add to baking soda to make tooth past.
    10. Put on baby chicks vents and bottom to prevent PASTY BUTT
    11. Make slaves
    12. Vaginal Dryness and yeast infection prevention (I use it daily and haven't had a problem since.). I stopped using $210.00 tubes of harmony cream by using coconut oil and it is less messy.
I use it through out the day. It is so much healthier plus I recycle the jar.

Y'all...I take dryer lint, put it in the compartments of my paper egg cartons & put my used wax warmer wax in each compartment till it's full. It makes a great fire starter. It burns plenty long enough for your kindling to catch on good & catch your wood. Just cut out one compartment with some of the carton edges on & there you have it. We use it when camping. :) Be blessed!

Hand warmers that you get in hunting or camping supply. I have used these so many times. If you place some where your kidneys are your whole body will be warm.
I've used them visiting the hospital, Because it's so cold my hands will hurt. But with the hand warmers ,they don't.
I've used them when my car has broke down and I've had to wait for someone to come and help me.
This time a year their harder and harder to find. Definitely get them when they go on sale after hunting.
Women see if somebody will take you hunting. It is a good way to get used to using a gun. If you have to, You will be able to hunt your food. You'd be surprised how someone will be excited to teach you.
If the grid goes down, Things get worse, Please ladies watch how you dress. Especially if there's no electricity. Put a baseball cap on wear a man's shirt. I say this for safety reasons. I am a lady, I did construction and I know how. You could be taken advantage of. Tried to say that Gently And tastefully.
Blessings and safety to all of God's children

Tarps - new or used: write the sizes on the corners after you fold them.
Collect SOLAR PIECES that can be connected together to run an entire home or small compound. $100 will get you started with a kit from Harbor Freight - yes they're not American made but they're going to get you started.
    Solar power generators, too.
We've been doing this prep for 10 years on our primary home and bug out location and we often and frequently watch and listen to preppers and new preppers because so many folks are amazing in the survival ideas and we always come back to..."that's awesome! I never considered that!!!"
I thought of 6 years ago emergency war wound care and surgery for survival. There's even a book that is so detailed it is scary but it outlines what you'd need to have prepped prior to that situation. The EMS bags are very expensive but have all your needs (except those things that are licensed like deadeners aka anesthetics) but bone separators and stuff like that...yes. Also, you can buy wound staples in your feed stores or tractor supply in the animal care. It's a quick and dirty way to close a wound if you cannot suture the spot closed.

Great video! To go along with your spouse's new washboard, you might want to consider picking up a commercial mop bucket (they were running around $40 at Walmart.) You can put your wet clothes into the basket at the top and press them out to remove excess water. It's so much easier on your back, plus if you're using a nontoxic laundry soap it's easy to take that greywater outside to use in the garden.

    3 suggestions:
    1. Gravity fed water filter of good quality: Berkey is an example. Any lake can then be a water source
    2. Sprouting jars: Mason jar and seeds can give you super nutrients from veggies in only a few days without a garden.
    3. A hand mill: Mill all your grains to flour. Grains in complete form last decades if stored properly, but flour lasts only months, so mill your own by hand. Also much better tasting and more nutritious.
In every challenge there is learning and growth. We are all learning 😊☀️🌻

Over a year ago I got on this kick about planning for no power, no gas, no kerosene. We have a gas generator but what would we do if we couldn't get gas for it? The answer to me came down to solar. Not a whole house, tens of thousands of dollar system but a small back up system that we could use to recharge cell phones, laptop, & batteries for things like flashlights, radios & smoke detectors, our security system runs almost exclusively on batteries and if things go sideways I'd certainly like to have that working off solar as well. (Only the base station would need to be plugged in constantly.) We have a whole bunch of 40volt tools we use like chainsaws, string trimmers, etc. that we'd likely need to clean up after a storm so having the ability to recharge those batteries was a must for us. Not to mention power tools. So, I put together a small solar system that can do all that. Granted it won't do all that recharging at once but somehow I doubt all our batteries will run down on the same day so that's not an issue. Lights. The thing I hate most about a power outage is the lack of decent lighting to read or cook by. I went solar there as well but not via the backup system. I invested in solar wall lights motion activated ones, the brightest ones I could find. Right now they're hung up outside to provide light as we walk from one outbuilding to the next but in an outage we can simply gather them up and bring them indoors at night to use in the house. (These have an always on setting as well.) Pop them all back out in the sun the next morning to recharge. Another purchase that I made for disaster that's proven to be so good that we use it now was several of the motion activated under cabinet lights. I have them not just under my cabinets but there's one on the wall near the toilet so no one needs to turn on a light to go in the middle of the night. I ended up putting several of them in rooms around the house so it's possible to walk around at night without having to turn the lights on & off. They aren't bright enough to blind you but you won't trip over the dog either. These are rechargeable. Rechargeable headlamps! I also got a couple of solar powered camping lanterns. No where near as bright as a good old Coleman lantern but in my mind every little bit of light I can get from a source that doesn't involve an open flame is a plus. I also started replacing or supplementing our outdoor security lights with solar motion activated floodlights. Again if things get bad I want to see the bad guys coming even if the power is out. Now I'm shopping for solar powered motion activated outdoor security cameras. There's a lot you can do with solar that doesn't cost an arm & a leg.
If all you want a solar system to do is recharge batteries for you a kit like Harbor Freight sells will work & you just need to add a good deep cycle 12 volt battery. Although with a little research you can put together a better kit piece by piece yourself online for the same price that's more expandable. Check where what you're ordering is being shipped from though because if it's China you likely won't receive it in time. Even if you don't want to get into the solar stuff do yourself a favor & at least get a solar charger for your phone & store it in your car. Oh, and buy a doggone battery operated radio so you'll at least have that as a source of info in a power outage.

Baking soda has so many uses. Definitely a necessity....teeth, goats, clothes washing, cleaning, deodorant. My grandma used to mix baking soda, vinegar and a little water to make a remedy for upset stomach.

Wool will stay warm even if wet. Cotton when wet can pull the heat out of your body and cause hypothermia faster.

Non-electronic entertainment. Puzzles, jacks, marbles, cards, board games, books, corn hole, horse shoes, etc, etc.
Also, teaching supplies if you have a little one (or grands in my case).

My daughter and her family are vegan. Since I wear an aluminum foil hat I have put up a couple of vegan items for them. After that's gone I doubt anyone is going to be picky. Hunger changes a lot of things. Good video, lots to think about. PS If I say tools to my husband he'll be off to Homer's, lol.

My husbands grandmother said they would heat the iron skillet on the wood stove and wrap it up and put it under covers at the foot of the bed to warm it up a bit before sleep.

Sanitary napkins can be used for clean compresses in a pinch. If you don't use them for their original purpose, don't throw them away. Put them with your emergency first aid kit.

We are buying a milk cow and bringing her home this weekend. Her name is Chestnut but my husband’s nickname for her is ‘B!d€n insurance.’
Also hint for those who are intimidated by the AMOUNT of milk you will get per day:
We are planning on using at LEAST 1/2 the milk to supplement our poultry feed. Also a ton of milk will be going into making our own butter - which is stupid easy to make. Then the poultry can have a lot of the buttermilk (or what doesn’t go into biscuits).
Shawn and Beth Dogherty have a video series up on how to ‘easily’ plug in a milk cow into a homestead as low as 5 acres, and their book is phenomenal about creating a self sustaining Farmstead

At about 43:08 on the video, James mentions "tobaggans". Since he was talking about keeping your head and feet warm, I thought maybe it was a pair of winter boots to go with the socks. Here in Nebraska, people who are going to be out in the snow usually wear special insulated boots. Luckily I had a few hints to search out on Google. I learned that our word for "sled", is also used to mean a "hat" in the South. I learned something new today. Thanks!

We recently had a severe cold snap in upper midwest and because there were no service techs available we could not get our furnace cleaned and serviced in fall. This lead to not knowing our furnace needed pressurizing. The furnace still ran UNTIL the -20 temps came. The furnace gave out, the water pipes (in the crawl space) froze a bit and our water pressure tank electronic switch failed right when the furnace guy came to install the new pump but needed to pressurize the furnace using water pressure. We had none so they said call us when you have water pressure. The plumber did not return our call so we were left to our own skills to get out of this spiral. As luck would have it, my husband guessed the issue with the water pressure tank (needed to power our drilled well) and ordered the part. In all we were without water for 6 days and without our furnace 3 days before that. There was NO TIME to fill a bathtub like in a storm. I had huge water cooler drinking water bottles stored in our tub and gallons of filtered drinking water saved. I melted snow for toilets. The fireplace and a Big Buddy Mr Heater kept us toasty warm 3 days until the furnace pump was installed . My husband fixed the water pressure tank without the plumber. THANK GOD FOR FORESIGHT, some basic skills AND PREPS. You never know. It doesn’t always have to be weather disaster! We live rural now BUT were the neighbors in the suburbs that had the garden and every tool needed and skills. Ironically our house was an old farmhouse set up with cellar and storage for tools and equipment. There were no neighbors who gardened sadly.

Yes on soaps for many different purposes.
One gardening application of Irish Spring Original, cut in chunks, and hung in a hair net or discarded panty hose, helps repel rats, mice, rabbits, rodents from eating up your growing food plants. After 3 months, replace each chunk for each plant.

I think people often overlook pest control and emergency toileting. In FL if you have to do without pest control company the critters will try to take over your home. Also people don’t understand no power can cause being able to flush the toilet or keep the sewer from backing up and overflow

The problem that I'm finding is that people are in denial of the potential of any of this happening to us in the USA. Second people can not seem to comprehend being or doing without and brush it off or play it all down big time.
