The first season of Real Ghostbusters is just about as good as an animated show gets. The writing, the score, the voice acting… it was just about perfect.
Love your History of videos Michael. I can still remember getting my first Real Ghostbusters action figures for my seventh birthday in 1986. I was blown away that we finally had Ghostbusters action figures
What most people never realized is that the colors on the cartoon flight suits were a direct use of the colors we see the Ghostbusters in the movie, mostly in the Mayor's office. Ray still had the flight suit, Egon's formal suit had the colors that were used on his cartoon flight suit, Peter had the same with his formal suit at the mayor's office as well and used for his cartoon flight suit color. Winston though, had the colors of his first appearance at the front of the station for his job interview. It was all a clever way to still use something from the movie in the cartoon to identify them since they didn't have the live action actors' likeness.
Love the movie and the Cartoon. I remember reading my first Lovecraft tale and in that same Sunday watching the Cthulhu episode from Ghostbusters. Sadly I didn't have any of the Toys.
Of course I love the movies, but Real Ghostbusters was my jam. I still have my Egon costume based on that version, I own the firehouse box set of the cartoon, and it lives on as one of my favorite cartoons of all time. Love it. Thanks for the retrospective.
Hi Micheal, even though you're Asleep Great video about The History of The Real Ghostbusters: 1986 Edition, keep them coming, Also your latest video was outstanding, Also The 1986 Real Ghostbusters Characters from Dr. Ray Stanz to Stay Puff Marshmallow Man was quite Amazing, Also The Real Ghostbusters 1986 Action Figures from Dr. Ray Stanz to Stay Puff Marshmallow Man was incredible, The First Season of the Real Ghostbusters is just about as good as an animated show gets. The writing, the score, the voice acting it was just about perfect. Also The Real Ghostbusters is one of my favorite Animated Cartoon Tv Shows of all time, Also Funny how the Garfield voice actor would play Venkman, and Bill Murray would go on to voice Garfield. Ray=Heart, Egon=Brain,3.Winston=Soul, & 4.Peter=Mouth! Also I not only like but also love your History of videos Micheal. Keep them coming, Also Another Superb video by Mr. Mercy, Also excellent mention of Jannie Melntz who is also a Ghostbuster as well, Also thank you for sharing Micheal keep up the good work stay safe out there in Canada have a goodnight and Nerdmaste
I had so many RGB toys when I was a kid. I had the Ecto 1, and the Firehouse, and so many ghosts and Ghostbusters. Unfortunately, the only thing that I still have from then is my Stay Puft plush. It's seen better days, but I still have it.
Great video, Mike! Ghost of Starscream was a nice touch 🤣. I always thought it would have been a great idea to do a giant blowup version of the stay-puft marshmallow man. Of course that would have also meant few would’ve survived from the 80s.
That would have been a cool idea! A giant Stay-Puft for the price of a regular figure. Nowadays there's the inflatable Stay-Puft Halloween costume that would be just about the right scale for the figures.
There was a Instagram Artist that made some super size versions of the pack in ghosts, I got the Grabber ghost, loved it as a art toy. and Nostalgia has been knocking around, I had Venkman as a kid, so I picked up the Re-Release Peter Venkman and Grabber new in package and got a nice bubble to protect it and hang on the wall. I had Green ghost, but I sold it.
Great video, thanks! 2 years before the Real Ghostbusters figures arrived after the film, that's a long time! In Real Ghostbusters (a great series), I always mixed up Peter Venkman with Ray Stance, thinking the Venkman cartoon looked more like Dan Akyroyd, and cartoon Ray more like Bill Murray. Cool figures line!
I remember first seeing the "Ghostbusters" toys in the 1986 Christmas catalog and being really confused as to why it was so different from the movie. These details would not be known at the time unless one happened to see a magazine article or heard it mentioned on a talk show, which was even more unlikely.
I miss my gb's figures,,,i remember getting them at k'b toy stores,,,i was a wild one,,i would open the little slime buckets with a small ghost inside,,and make a mess in the store,,,,lol,,what a great time too be alive,,,,😂
Thanks! Nope, I got the vol 1-5 set which I didn't realize wasn't the complete set and not as good quality. Hope they reissue the Time-Life set or put out a bluray.
This was the first franchise I ever obsessed over as a kid. I remember lamenting the lack of Samhain/Bogeyman/Sandman/Grundel etc toys and the deluge of random ghost figures, though I was partial to the Mummy. I always wanted wave 1 because they looked like they did in the show, but was born in 84 and just missed the boat. I sadly had to make do with "fright features" until we got kenner classics a couple years ago.
@katiepersons6575 I have a custom made Samhain and Sandman plus the Samhain that came with Janine from Mattel. As well as the O.G. Real Ghostbusters action figures and the even rarer Ecto Glow Hero'es all mint on card and sealed!👻🚫☃🎃
I loved the movie and show so much as a kid, that the toys were such a big letdown. I had them all because its all you could get, but i hated that the proton streams were permanently "on" so i broke them all off. Slimer was gigantic, and stay puft was tiny. The ecto 1 was the best toy of the line, i really loved that car.
Night game gave Winston a stellar episode good vs evil play baseball the umpire I always wondered who he actually was in fact the series had many episodes for every character to have there moment to shine individually the movies toyline and cartoon 84 to 91 was right in the heart of my childhood love it my friend still has ecto and the firehouse and the Lego fire house also don't forget ecto 2
I remember how huge that slimer toy was. They should have bundled in the correct sized Slimer with Wave 1 Venkman instead of the generic ghost he comes with. I wouldn't get one until the Kylie figure from Extreme Ghostbusters a decade later.
while not overt, Winston's christian beliefs are still referenced in the cartoon, particularly in the episode "The devil to pay" where one of his personal interests listed is "Biblical studies", so it's not all COMPLETELY censored!
The show was so perfect in its first season. It's a tragedy that consultants came in and ruined the show in later seasons. "Janine you've changed" has shade thrown at them by the writers.
I wish Kenner had made Ghosts of Samhain, Sandman, Boogyman, Troll, and more ghosts that were actually on show to go with their originally designed ghosts…
Samhain got a figure in the Extreme Ghostbusters line in 1997, but it doesn't look much like his Real Ghostbusters appearance: www.actionfigurebarbecue.com/2020/10/the-dawn-of-31-days-of-toy-terror-sam.html
Did you know tha- oh.. Well did.. uhm.. D- Did you know they ended up having to tone down things and change characters in such a way people started walking away from the project? They would never change something to fit a narrative these days, right? riiiiight? lol
J Michael Fox worked on this.
😆
The first season of Real Ghostbusters is just about as good as an animated show gets. The writing, the score, the voice acting… it was just about perfect.
Also, the clips where Venkman is trying to sell KITT & the Coyote X to Michael Knight made me lol.

But everything changed when Q5 attacked
@@MichaelMercy They need to reissue The Real Ghostbusters cassette and DVD box set Fire House Edition!👻🚫📼💽
Q5 sucks.
This is one of the few DIC shows that A -was good when it came out. B -seemed to have effort put into it. C -still holds up.
Love your History of videos Michael.
I can still remember getting my first Real Ghostbusters action figures for my seventh birthday in 1986. I was blown away that we finally had Ghostbusters action figures

I still have my old Stay Puft, he's sitting pretty on my own 80s display.
My friend had all the big sets Michael, I used go around the weekends, my parents brought me the figures, great memories, Thank you once again Michael
Good video, I had some of the figures from the second lineup.
I had almost every Ghostbusters toy, only thing I remember that I didn’t have was Ecto 1
Your Transformers series was so dang good, I know I'm gonna enjoy this too. A perfect balance of history and nostalgia.
Thanks!
In the Uk we had the shows cut to 20mins, didnt notice until i went to canada and saw the show.
Love the use of the music from the SEGA Genesis video game, which is my favorite "Ghostbusters" game.
I love the cartoon (at least the episodes before Q5 took over). I watched the entire series back when it was available on Netflix.

What an awesome history of the Real Ghostbusters. Loved the profile review of the boys 👻🚫

Tremendous look at these toys! Love learning about these toys but my favorite part is watching you bust ghosts in the credits. How much fun was that?
Thanks Bob! Yeah that was fun...for me at least. Not so much for the ghost or the greenhorn! 😉
Can’t wait for part 2
Even though "the real" Ghostbusters is one of my all time fave cartoons ever, i still enjoyed watching the filmation Ghostbusters show as well.
What?
Love this show growing up! ❤😃👍🏽

You know, I heard that J. Michael Straczynski worked on this show! Did you know that? ;)
😲
Strczynski also wrote Spider-Man for a while- a fantastic run with a couple of... questionable plot points and a famously terrible finish 😅

The Real Ghostbusters Season 1-4 is my favorite anime.
Real Ghostbusters Cartoon is probably the best 80s American animated series.
Too bad Kenner never made a Gozer the Gozerian figure back in 1986. She would have fit right in with the rest of the toy line.
They sort of did with Stay-Puft. 😉 But yeah, I know what you mean. The plasma series one is great though.
Once a week every week That just sounds normal to me

Back in the 80s the only improvement to the figures would have been making the proton stream a removable piece but that is a minor gripe.
Wish they were, so that all the figures and packs could fit in Ecto without having to futz with the streams.
