Like your project, explanation of steps and products used -- especially appreciate the GREAT filming (wide view, in focus, etc.) didn't miss a second of it!! Keep these great projects coming!!
Tonya- don’t miss this quick sign making video! ua-cam.com/video/nHj3HXAH1LM/v-deo.html I love how super easy it is. Thanks so much for watching. Blessings- Kelly
Stephanie- Thanks so much! I just posted a blog of a different style sign. Check it out underatexassky.com/coffee-nook-wood-sign I’m glad you stopped by. Blessings- Kelly
Jeri- Thanks so much for taking a moment to let me know you enjoyed this tutorial! Here's another wood sign tutorial that's super easy: underatexassky.com/coffee-nook-wood-sign. I like this one because it's just one board. Easy peasy. Thanks again for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
Ronda- I always love to hear from fellow Texans! We moved to central Texas in March 2018 to a tiny town called Hubbard. If you're ever in Waco- we're just about 25 minutes NE of there on HWY 31. You can pop into Deering's General Store downtown and see me starting Labor Day! Thanks for stopping by. Blessings - Kelly
Love, Love this!! I'm just a newbie at learning the cricut, crafting. Thanks for this video. New subscriber and will continue to be watching your videos.
Georgette- Thank you so much for the kind words! Just be patient and try to not get discouraged when things do go perfectly. You'll get better and better the more you do! Blessings- Kelly
Kristie- Aww thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking a moment to leave some love. Here's a link to the first part of the sign tutorial: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=DXHlFBKfaXE Here's another sign tutorial as well ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=nHj3HXAH1LM Blessings- Kelly
Robert- Thanks so much! Actually chalk paint is really good at grabbing on to any surface. That's not to say that if I'm doing a piece of furniture that is highly glossing that I don't rough it up a little. But it's really amazing how the paint covers. Check out my post on the three layer paint process I used to remake an old vanity: underatexassky.com/layering-chalk-paint. There's a video included. Blessings- Kelly
Beautiful project. I’ve never had luck with chalk paint but yours looks amazing! I always use the hinge method when using vinyl. Gets it straight every time.
Trish- I’m so glad you stopped by to say hi. I hate to say it, but I even struggle with the hinge method. I just don’t have a steady hand or something. I have some other videos using chalk paint on furniture also. It’s fun! Thanks again for the kind words. Blessings- Kelly
Hello from Illinois! Just love all of your videos. You are an amazing teacher and have a way of explaining things that make me feel like I can tackle any project! The sign turned out beautiful.
Hello there! Thank you so very much for taking a moment to send some love from Illinois! I promise you- if I can do a project- YOU can too! For me the hardest part is to not try to be perfect. Once I let go of the fear of not doing something well, I can relax and just enjoy doing it. I'm so glad you're finding some inspiration here. Thanks again! Blessings- Kelly
Tiffany- Thanks so much! Isn’t it crazy how that brown just gives it just the right amount of antiquing. Thanks so much for stopping by. Blessing- Kelly
GORGEOUS! I purchased the Cricut Expression II and I wished I had gotten the Silhouette! 😭 I'm definitely going to give this one a try! TFS! Sooo happy to see a new video from you! You made my day! Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!
Melanie- I started with a Cricut years ago- but it was some new design that they discontinued updates on so I went to the Silhouette. I really enjoy using it. I'm certainly no expert and don't do some of the amazing things it can do- but I love having it for vinyl! This was a really fun and easy project, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Happy new year! Blessings- Kelly
Hi from Mississippi it’s cold here to and happy 2018 to you as well! I absolutely love the sign you created you are extremely talented and are a very a good teacher. Your videos are very easy to follow and I really appreciate that so thank you! 😀
Selena- Thank you so much for the sweet words! We were just in Vicksburg the week before and the week after Christmas. Beautiful state! My daughter just moved from Columbus today. Her hubs is a pilot in the USAF and they are moving back to Texas! I hope you’re having a happy new year. Blessings- Kelly
Scraptek- Thanks so much. You know, I'm not 100% sure about the wax. Using the sealing wax first is just how the instructions recommend it. I'd guess you can skip that step, but the antiquing wax might not glide as smoothly, or wipe off as easily. Maybe try antiquing GLAZE instead of the wax. It's much more liquid than the wax. Let me know how it works out!
Do not use wax if your piece will be outside. The hot sun will melt it. If you want to use an antique wax sms you don't want it to have a super dirty wax then use 2 coats of clear wax first, letting dry and buff, then use your antique wax. Reason...if you do not seal the chalk paint with the clear sealing wax first you will end up with a piece that doesn't look antique...it will Just look really dirty. I did all of my kitchen cupboards, clear waxed them, then antique waxed them...i learned from my mistakes. However, if this will be outside, do not use wax. Just use an outdoor polyacrylic.
I personally have tried to skip the step of using the sealer wax and the results were ok...but I had a very difficult time wiping the antiquing off! It pretty much looked like it was all blotted on instead of going in a particular direction like Kelly shows. I wouldn't recommend using without the sealing wax.
I know this is an older video so not sure if you will see this but this is my favorite video you explained everything so well Why do you use the sealing wax just added protection Also I notice that your paint doesn’t come off with the transfer tape is that because of the wax?
Norine- Aren't you so sweet?! Thank you. I actually used the sealing wax so the antiquing wax would be about to be moved around. If I just put the antiquing wax straight onto the paint, it would really soak in and not be able to be wiped away as easily. As far as the paint not peeling up, I think it's mostly because I painted on raw wood, so the paint really soaked in. I also waited until everything was really dry before the transfer. It also depends on your transfer tape. Some of that stuff sticks like glue! I usually peel the backing off of the tape then press the entire sheet down on a wood surface just to remove some of the stickiness. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Kathleen- Thanks so much. Here's an even easier distressed sign tutorial: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=nHj3HXAH1LM I love making these simple signs! Blessings- Kelly
Hi Sandra! Thanks so much. I think the color I used on this sign was called "Pool." It's a Waverley color. I, of course, now sell Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint and I'd say the closest color we have is Sea Glass. If you're ever interested you can shop online! shopunderatexassky.com/search?type=product&q=sea+glass Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
Do you have a tutorial on making the stencil with your Silhouette Cameo? If not would you consider making a few? When making the stencil can you use contact paper? Cost efficiencies from a girl on a dime. ❤️love the sign gorgeous. ❤️💯
Judy- I do have one. It's a terrible "live" that I did many months ago. It's an annoying video, but I think the information is still worth watching. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/zdxHeIwM_bc/v-deo.html Thanks so much for stopping by. Blessings- Kelly
I really like the way your sign turned out, I am trying to do a picture holder with a solid piece of wood and a clip and stencil with a beach theme I’m going to try the product you used I really like the color.
Calandra- Thanks so much! That color would be perfect for a beach theme! I really love it too. I hope your project turns out beautifully. Blessings- Kelly
Love your hair cut - enjoyed the video - I use puppy pads (either side) under my items so my cutting boards don't take paint - :) thought I'd share. No apron?? you are brave ;) / and if you wrap your brush in the t-shirt it makes doing those edges easier and goes faster. Love the sign. If you use the heat applied vinyl, you don't have to transfer it and you can use a craft iron - it works great, but I seal mine so they don't heat up outside and fall off.
Cedar Hill- Thanks for the tips and for the compliment on my hair. I wore that style for years and years but have let it grow out over the past two. Now it's down the middle of my back and purple! Once you retire there is so much freedom! This sign is actually one of the first ones I ever did. I've since started using the vinyl as a stencil so I'm not having to worry so much about how well it's sealed. Over the past several weeks I bought a heat press and have started using HTV on shirts and love it! I'm so happy to stopped by to share. Blessings- Kelly
Thanks Kelly! Enjoyed your video and appreciate that you don't edit your videos to make everything look effortless. I think letting others know what the real deal looks like helps people, like me, to get frustrated and give up. I use a lot of different methods to make signs but haven't tried the wax finishes. Do you like wax better than polyurethane?
Joy- I'm so happy you to took a moment to stop by. It's so important to me that we show what really happens when you try new projects. Most of the time I'm winging it, honestly, so I like just starting and seeing what happens. We don't want anyone to feel intimidated about trying new things. Now as far as wax vs poly. It depends on the use. I always use poly (matte) when I make something that's going to go outside. I'm good with just the wax for furniture unless it's a like a table top that's going to take a lot of abuse. Thanks again for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
It really helps a lot to use a brayer to release your vinyl from the transfer paper Kelly ! I found this out through trial and error lol ! Just thought I would share that with you !
Agnes- That sounds like a great idea! I happen to have a brayer and am going to try it on my next project! Thank you for sharing that idea. Blessings! - Kelly
Im sorry I forgot to ask, which matte polycrylic do you like to use the most please ? And did I understand correctly, I would use the polycrylic at the end of 3rd step antiquing wax(after dry)? Ty so so much!! :-)
Lilian- Definitely use the poly as your last step. If it's going to be hung outside in the elements, use a good all weather poly. Varathane Ultimate Spar Urethane water based in satin works great to protect the finish.
Clara- Thanks for sending love! I'm going to share more frequently this year- that's my plan anyways. I'm hoping to have some fun things on the horizon. Blessings- Kelly
Love this not sure about the brown stain because it covered the pretty chalk paint lol still great Have a ? If I wanted to make a sign for outdoor use so it would be in the elements all year would I do the same thing or need another kind of sealer Thank you for sharing
Norine- Thanks so much. You should just put a good poly sealer on your piece for outdoors. I'd apply at least three coats front and back to be sure all of the original wood surface is coated. My sign is still looking great and it's been outside off and on for a couple of years. Blessings- Kelly
Kelly K thank you so much have one more ? Sorry to be a pain I already painted the wood with gesso and reg acrylic paint can I now paint over that with chalk paint?
Norine- Sorry it's taken so long to respond! Chalk paint has amazing coverage. I'd lightly sand your surface with a high grit sandpaper (like 320), then paint over it. Hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing .. looks great I love the color of your walls💜 Any idea what color and brand of paint you used? And if its matte? I know color can be tricky with lighting and not true on video but its just like the perfect shade...
I knew it was going to be a sherwin color 😊I have used tgat shade before just bow trying to remember where 🤔 do you know if you used a flat? Its just looks do nice snd muted ...
Andrea- Thank you so much! I'm so glad you took a moment to let me know you enjoyed my tutorial. I hope your sign turns out great. Check out this other great painted sign tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/nHj3HXAH1LM/v-deo.html It's such an easy project. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings- Kelly
Hi from Tennessee😊I absolutely love your sign💕It turned out beautiful! I just have one question? Do you need to put any type of sealer on top of the vinyl? I know that you sealed the wood piece but what keeps the vinyl from coming off in the elements? Thanks so much and HAPPY NEW YEAR to your family🎉GINA
Gina- Thanks so much! And yes, we definitely spray a matte poly spray on the front and back to protect the wood from the elements and to keep the vinyl from being affected as well. I'm happy you enjoyed the tutorial and took a moment to let us know. Blessings! -Kelly
Creative- Thanks for subscribing! I'm glad you stopped by to leave some nice encouragement! And I think that a sign like that would look great with Chalk Courture! Blessings- Kelly
Barbara- It's my pleasure! Actually my hubs made this sign and routed the edges. Here's a video that shows exactly how he made it. ua-cam.com/video/DXHlFBKfaXE/v-deo.html I think you can also buy sign blanks at the craft stores and Walmart. Thanks for stoping by! Blessings- Kelly
Johanne- He's pretty wonderful. There's no way I could do what I do without him. I count my blessings daily! Thanks so much for stopping by. Blessings- Kelly
Kristy- Thanks so much! I actually took that from another Silhouette store saying. I just plucked it out and added it to my custom sign. The graphic says "When I think of love, I think of you." If you have a Silhouette- grab it! Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
Heather- Thanks! I did seal my sign with a polycrylic since it hangs outside. Try using permanent vinyl on your signs. It is meant for long term projects. The other is more for wall use. Hope this helps. Blessings! -Kelly
I'm interested in lightly distressing a wood crate (for our front porch) with two coats of different colored paint first then lightly using sandpaper on some edges to give it a worn look and bring out the underlying paint. Should I use the sealing wax afterwards? It won't be in direct weather but I do live in the PNW and the wet atmosphere isn't kind to wood.
Maxine- I would definitely seal it but I'd probably use a matte poly to do it. That way it will have a really nice coat of protection but won't have that shiny look. I'd just be afraid that the unsealed wood would likely absorb the moisture in the air. Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
So cool you respond quickly to every comment...love it! Another question, I hope you don't mind. I'm still new at staining and painting...more of a card maker but interested in breaking into new crafting areas. Does Valspar make a matte poly? With intricate wood lattice designs can I use a spray can matte sealer? You have a new student in me...thank you for your videos.
Maxine- No problem at all. I'm happy to answer questions. Seriously, I'm no expert, I always tell people I have a Master's Degree in "winging it" but I'm happy to share what I've learned from experience. I'm not sure if Valspar makes a poly- we usually use Minwax products for topcoats. We often use spray as well. Be sure to give it a couple of coats. I hope your project turns out beautifully. -Kelly
Love it!. I do have a question, actually 2. 1st, I chalk painted a table and have put a water base sealer on it to give it a dull sheen. I would like to put a vinyl saying on it now. Will the letters hold to the sealer? would I need to put a sealer over the vinyl letters to prevent letters from coming up if liquid is spilled? That was a rather lengthy question, but I do have one more. 2nd question. I have a slice of wood from a tree with the raw bark edge still on it, cut on a slant. I would like to add vinyl to this as well. Do I add the sealer to the wood before adding the vinyl letters or after the vinyl letters have been put on the wood? I want the wood grain to show through. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!..Ann from Canada
Annemieke- Thanks for watching! Your letters should stick fine to your sealed wood. Be sure to use permanent vinyl for lasting letters. I'd go ahead and seal over the letters as well just to give it that final finishing touch to be sure the surface is protected. As far as the wood slab; it depends on how smooth the surface is. If it's a nice slick surface to apply your vinyl to, you should be ok. If not, I'd be sure it's sanded smooth and then sealed and really dry before applying your vinyl. Again I'd seal over it as well. I use water a Rustoleum water based satin poly on my pieces. It doesn't yellow like an oil based. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Jan- Thanks so much! If there's no way to mail order some sealing wax, I would think you could just protect the finish with a matte polycrylic and skip the sealing wax step. Of course I used antiquing wax after the ceiling wax. If you have that (antiquing wax)- I'd go ahead and try it after the chalk paint coat (try this on a scrap piece of wood to be sure you get the result you want!). There are also antiquing glazes that might work well also. It's a much more liquid product (kind of like stain) but it can give a cool look as well. I did that here: underatexassky.com/faux-barn-wood-painted-sign - I hope this helps. I'm so happy to hear you found me in Greece!! Blessings- Kelly
Angela- For the antiquing wax to work correct6, the sealing wax really needs to go on first. You want to be able to wipe off the antiquing wax in places. The first wax makes the antiquing wax glide. But, there’s no need to poly coat if it’s not going outside. Hope this helps. Blessings- Kelly
Rachael- I use a Silhouette Cameo to do my vinyl cutting. It's a pretty simple machine to use and does a good job. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Sherri- You know, I've had that gray top for YEARS and cannot remember where I got it. It's one of my favorite tops! I would venture to guess I got it at Macy's since 80% of what I wear comes from there. I'd tell you what brand it is but I'm not able to get to most of my hanging clothes since they're still in packing boxes from our move. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Thanks so much for watching and for stopping by. Blessings! -Kelly
Thank you for a great tutorial, it’s the first time I saw yours - definitely subscribed! Would you use anything to preserve the finished product? Like a spray?
Meni- Thanks so much! Yes, I definitely put a coat of matte poly over the entire sign since it hangs outside. If it's going to just be inside, using a wax sealer is fine. Just be sure you use permanent vinyl like Oracal 651. Hope this helps. Blessings- Kelly
Sven- Thanks so much for watching! Actually wax is different than varnish. Varnish is a clear liquid that hardens into a tough coating that sits on top of your paint. It's like using a polycrylic I think. Wax is thicker and usually needs to be buffed as it works it's way into the surface. Varnish also usually has a shine to it, more so than a wax. Both protect but the finish is a little different. I hope this helps. Blessings! -Kelly
Hi Kelly. I'm interested in purchasing the silhouette machine you have. Can you reply with link to your model Please? Thank you for Great video of beautiful sign! Jen Vance, South Dakota!
Jen- Thanks so much! I have an older Silhouette Cameo. The newer editions have lots of bells and whistles, but I just do basic vinyl cutting and sometimes greeting cards so the basic works great for me. I bought it a few years ago from HSN and they added a whole suite of accessories. Amazon has some offers like that as well. I hope this helps! Blessings!
Hi I just love this simple sign. So many videos out that make things difficult. I didn't catch the other site you mentioned? Under the Text Sun, is that another youtube channel? Thanks, I enjoyed this very much!
Kathy- Thanks so much. I'm glad you like our tutorial. Hey, I like easy projects, because easy doesn't mean not beautiful! Actually my blog is Under a Texas Sky- underatexassky.com. There are tons of tutorials there. UA-cam Channel is ua-cam.com/users/kimbro2524. You can find all my video tutorials there. Blessings- Kelly
Cindy- The quality of the vinyl is important. I use Oracal 651 permanent vinyl. It sticks really well but I always seal it with a good poly to protect from the elements. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Joni- I think this video may have popped back up because I've gotten new comments. Not sure. But I'm glad you caught it! I hope your new year is filled with blessings. -Kelly
Pgh- I don't have any Silhouette tutorials. I'm no expert on it for sure, but I think if you search UA-cam you'll be able to find several. Sorry I couldn't help!
Jean- I finish lots of my chalk painted signs with a poly instead of wax. You definitely need to put some kind of finish on it or it will easily scrape off since it's got the texture of chalk; very dry. Blessings- Kelly
I really need help? I chalked. Coffee table with a plaster color. I went straight to antique wax. It looks horrible! Streaky and a mess. Should I have clear waxed first. Now how to I remove the antique, or can I chalk over it?
Debbie- I hate it when I can't get a finish right! If it's really awful, I'd lightly sand it and paint it again. Depending on the brand of paint you're using- it should cover. I had to redo a table top just last week and our Dixie Belle Paint covered so well. Do a couple coats of paint, then sand it with 400 grit sandpaper. Get the finish as smooth as possible. Then add your wax and or topcoat. Hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly underatexassky.com/shop-dixie-belle-paint
I don't know what transfer paper you used, but I have much easier results with Walmart's Magic Cover contact paper or just plain old clear contact shelf paper. Niced job!
BPD- I purchased the vinyl tray at Amazon and describe the setting I use at 6:30 in the video. I never use a mat when cutting vinyl and it always works out. Maybe just start with something small and give it a try! Blessings- Kelly
Karen- I always use a wax or poly on my chalk painted pieces- it’s personal preference . I sell Dixie Belle Paint and it actually does not need a sealer. It cures in 30 days. Just be sure to poly anything that may be in the weather.
Holly- I've have a great husband who supports me in all of my ventures. I couldn't do it without him. Thank you for acknowledging him. It will make his day! :)
Ginger- I did seal the sign afterwards. I used a polycrylic to protect it for the elements since it hangs outside. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
So I'm new to this stuff... is that vinyl heat transfer vinyl? If not what kind of vinyl is it? I want to do my kids names on wooden boards I painted.. but someone told me no since the heat transfer vinyl will bubble the paint since I would be using an iron to put it on
Bianca- You need to use adhesive vinyl. I use Oracle 651 permanent vinyl for signs. I usually use Silhouette removable vinyl for walls. Hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Marie- It's always so sketchy when it comes to transfer tape! It seems like it can change from roll to roll even with the same brand. I've found pretty good luck using the brand that's at the bottom of this post: underatexassky.com/coffee-nook-wood-sign I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Poly- I have several types, I'm always trying to find one that is sticky enough but not too sticky! I find the ones with the paper backing are best. Plus when I pull the backing off, before I put it on my vinyl, I press it to my desktop first just to get that initial sticky off a bit. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
I don't believe so . The sealing wax is more liquified wax then traditional. It's easier to spread on your project. I'm not familiar with sanding sealer.
Lori- Definitely seal it if it's going outside! I like a water based poly so it doesn't yellow. Varathane is a good one. Put on several coats and let them cure before putting the sign outside. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Suzanne- I've tried several brands but like this one the best: amzn.to/2uowBVY. I like the grid lines to help line things up. Also, I usually cut the amount I need and then press it to a board first to get some of the stickiness off. I will use the same piece several times. Hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
I also just now am watching this tutorial. What a beautiful sign. The color is magnificent. Looking forward to more tutorials.
Angela- Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed the tutorial. I just love that blue and brown together! I'm glad you stopped by. Blessings- Kelly

Nice job! I have that color in my supplies. Your video popped up on the main feed, but then saw my last name made it extra special!
Terri- That's so funny! My hubs is originally from Alabama, not sure if you're among those Kimbroughs. I'm happy you found me! Blessings- Kelly
Hi from NE Texas. I just found you. Love this sign. Glad to find someone from Texas.
Ronda- I always love to hear from fellow Texans! We moved to central Texas in March 2018 to a tiny town called Hubbard. If you're ever in Waco- we're just about 25 minutes NE of there on HWY 31. Georgette- Thank you so much for the kind words! Just be patient and try to not get discouraged when things do go perfectly. You'll get better and better the more you do! Blessings- Kelly
OMG 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 you did an amazing job!!! I have to find the first part.
Wonderful job!
? Wouldn’t paint scratch off easy if I paint over a glossy piece of furniture if I don’t hit it with a quick sanding?
Thank you
Robert- Thanks so much!
I was skeptical about that brown wax but OMG it turned out perfect!

I'm certainly no expert and don't do some of the amazing things it can do- but I love having it for vinyl! This was a really fun and easy project, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Happy new year! Thanks for the lesson i distressing. I made my first sign with your technique. It came out great! I can't wait to do more. I wish I could show you.
Jacque- I’m so happy to hear this! Send me a pic on my Facebook- Under a Texas Sky- is love to see it.
Absolutely love it you and the mean man are a great team
Katie- Thank you so much for the lovely compliment! I couldn't do it without him!
Hi love your video. My question is do you need the sealer wax? Or can I just use the antiquing wax? Thank you
Scraptek- Thanks so much.
Hi! It looks beautiful! Why didn’t you seal it afterwards...won’t it peel off eventually?
Michelle- I definitely sealed it! I used a couple of coats of Varathane. All these years later,, the sign still looks great! Blessings- Kelly
I know this is an older video so not sure if you will see this but this is my favorite video you explained everything so well
Why do you use the sealing wax just added protection
Also I notice that your paint doesn’t come off with the transfer tape is that because of the wax?
Under a Texas Sky so you don’t need the wax if your not going to use the antiquing wax? Thanks so much for the reply don’t want to be a pain hugs
Great job!!! Love it!! Love the Antique look. I will try this on my next project!!!
Wendy- Thanks so much!! I'm glad you stopped by. Blessings- Kelly
Very, very nice!! I am just starting to do distressed signs so this is really helpful. Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!
Kathleen- Thanks so much. Here's an even easier distressed sign tutorial: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=nHj3HXAH1LM I love making these simple signs! Blessings- Kelly
Hello there! I loved your tutorial! Thank you 🙏
I just have a question, what is the name of the color you used? 😀
Gorgeous sign!
Thanks so much!
Great sign!!! I love it!!!! Expressions has a great transfer paper. I get on Amazon. Works great.
Dana- Thanks for the tip! I'll look for it. Thanks for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
Kelly K you're welcome! I love making signs wirh my silhouette. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hi! Could you please tell me if it has different sizes and how much it cost? Thank you!
Tip...i use the same wax and antique wax. You can take the clear wax to remove the dark wax if it gets too dark
Julie- Great tip! Thanks so much. Blessings! -Kelly
I really like the way your sign turned out, I am trying to do a picture holder with a solid piece of wood and a clip and stencil with a beach
theme I’m going to try the product you used I really like the color.
@@UnderATexasSky thanks! Ive had my store for over 15 years - love too!!
Love, love, love this sign!!! Can’t wait to make one.
Sarah/ Thanks so much! I’m glad you stopped by.
@@UnderATexasSky thanks a million 💖💖
You are simply awesome. It's beautiful.
Rantej- You are so sweet! Thanks for such a lovely compliment. Blessings- Kelly
Does the Valspar Ant. Wax come in different colors, and if so what color did you use for this sign. It is beautiful so far. Flo
Flo- The color I painted the sign is "Pool" in Waverly paint. The Valspar Antiquing Wax only comes in the brown color I believe. Blessings- Kelly
Good to see you back. Been missing you. Love your project, it turned out so pretty. Happy New Year!
Clara- Thanks for sending love! I'm going to share more frequently this year- that's my plan anyways. I'm hoping to have some fun things on the horizon. Blessings- Kelly

Susannah- Thanks so much! I appreciate you stopping by to leave some nice encouragement. Blessings- Kelly
Turned out GREAT!! Thank you for sharing!!
Carlotta- Thanks so much! I'm glad you stopped by. Blessings!- Kelly
Kelly K - glad I did too! : )
Love this not sure about the brown stain because it covered the pretty chalk paint lol still great
Have a ? If I wanted to make a sign for outdoor use so it would be in the elements all year would I do the same thing or need another kind of sealer
Thank you for sharing
Norine- Thanks so much. You should just put a good poly sealer on your piece for outdoors. I'd apply at least three coats front and back to be sure all of the original wood surface is coated. My sign is still looking great and it's been outside off and on for a couple of years. Blessings- Kelly
Kelly K thank you so much have one more ? Sorry to be a pain I already painted the wood with gesso and reg acrylic paint can I now paint over that with chalk paint?
I said I wasn’t sure about the brown over the chalk but now I see it better and saw when you hung it outside looks amazing
Norine- Sorry it's taken so long to respond! Chalk paint has amazing coverage. I'd lightly sand your surface with a high grit sandpaper (like 320), then paint over it. Hope this helps!
Thanks so much!! :)
Thanks for sharing .. looks great
I love the color of your walls💜 Any idea what color and brand of paint you used? And if its matte? I know color can be tricky with lighting and not true on video but its just like the perfect shade...
Deeda- The color of those walls is Sherwin Williams Killem Beige. It's a fairly standard color these days I think.
I knew it was going to be a sherwin color 😊I have used tgat shade before just bow trying to remember where 🤔 do you know if you used a flat? Its just looks do nice snd muted ...
Greetings from the UK 😁. I love this project. I’ve just found your channel and have subscribed. I’m looking forward to trying out this project. 😊🎄
Blessings! -Kelly
Helpful tips! I just subbed. I’m always looking for surface ideas for Chalk Couture
Creative- Thanks for subscribing! I'm glad you stopped by to leave some nice encouragement! And I think that a sign like that would look great with Chalk Courture! Blessings- Kelly
Kelly K I love your distressing process
Already brought the paint 😍
Thank you for sharing this tutorial...I absolutely loved it...Where did you get that piece of wood with those edges?
Barbara- It's my pleasure! Actually my hubs made this sign and routed the edges. Here's a video that shows exactly how he made it. ua-cam.com/video/DXHlFBKfaXE/v-deo.html I think you can also buy sign blanks at the craft stores and Walmart. Thanks for stoping by! Blessings- Kelly

I love it! I hope to try this soon.
Sharon- Thanks so much! I hope your project turns out great! Blessings- Kelly
This video is over a year old, it's a long shot, I was wondering what font was used for the word LOVE? Beautiful sign, I have liked and subscribed!
Kristy- Thanks so much! I actually took that from another Silhouette store saying. I just plucked it out and added it to my custom sign. The graphic says "When I think of love, I think of you." If you have a Silhouette- grab it! Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
I LOVE THIS!!!! do you put anything over the vinyl to seal it? Just wondering I have had some issues with my letters coming off.
Heather- Thanks! I did seal my sign with a polycrylic since it hangs outside. Try using permanent vinyl on your signs. It is meant for long term projects. The other is more for wall use. Hope this helps. Blessings! -Kelly

Hello OMYGOODNESS. thank you so much for replying!!!! You're information really helped me!!! Thank you again
Wow, looks great!
Melissa- Thanks so much! Blessings- Kelly
Love this sign! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Book- Thank you so much for taking a moment to send some love! Blessings- Kelly
-Kelly
Maxine Haas of
Great video ! Do you know what I could substitute for the sealing wax with ? I live in rural Greece and I can’t find anywhere that sells it.
If you are not using it outside would you still need to use the first wax.
Thank you 🙂
Looks beautiful! I am going to try it!
Thanks so much! I hope yours turns out great. Blessings- Kelly
Love this😍 what is the machine you are using for cutting out your vinyl stencil?
Rachael- I use a Silhouette Cameo to do my vinyl cutting. It's a pretty simple machine to use and does a good job. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Where did you get the gray top that you're wearing in the painting video? Love it and love the sign!!
Blessings! -Kelly
Beautiful Kelly!!
Susan- Thanks so much! Blessings- Kelly
Love the plaque xx can you use rub and buff xxx
Wendy- Thanks so much! I. Not sure about rub and buff?
Hi, thanks for sharing!
Can you let me know if wax is the same as varnish?
I’m from Europe, so everything is called differentially 😣
Thanks!

Just wondering how well vinyl really sticks...I paint mine on...but this looks ok. Do you seal or have to seal?
Cindy- The quality of the vinyl is important. I use Oracal 651 permanent vinyl. It sticks really well but I always seal it with a good poly to protect from the elements. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Very pretty!
Thank you!
Hello. If I were to stencil my letters, would it be before or after the waxings? Thank you!
Gloria- I would stencil first so your letters are sealed along with the rest of the sign. Blessings! -Kelly

do u have any beginner tuts. for the silhouette portrait? please let m know; thank you; great job
Pgh- I don't have any Silhouette tutorials. I'm no expert on it for sure, but I think if you search UA-cam you'll be able to find several. Sorry I couldn't help!
Do you have to finish chalk paint with a wax. What happens if you do not. Thanks
You need to flip over the vinyl/transfer tape. So much easier to remove that way.
Thanks so much. I always love suggestions to help make things easier. Blessings- Kelly
Can you post a link to the first video? (I would suggest you put the link in the Description section...)
Cory- Here you go- ua-cam.com/video/DXHlFBKfaXE/v-deo.html and thanks for the great suggestion. Blessings- Kelly
I don't know what transfer paper you used, but I have much easier results with Walmart's Magic Cover contact paper or just plain old clear contact shelf paper. Niced job!
Patricia- I'm going to give that a try! Thank you so much for the tip! Blessings- Kelly
I could not find this at Walmart
Love it great job
Camela- Thank you so much! Blessings- Kelly
What is the holder you are using for your vinyl and what settings do you use! I have a Cameo 3 and I’m terrified to use it without a mat.
BPD- I purchased the vinyl tray at Amazon and describe the setting I use at 6:30 in the video. I never use a mat when cutting vinyl and it always works out. Maybe just start with something small and give it a try! Blessings- Kelly
do I need to use wax or polyurethane over a plaque that hangs inside the house???
Karen- I always use a wax or poly on my chalk painted pieces- it’s personal preference . I sell Dixie Belle Paint and it actually does not need a sealer. It cures in 30 days. Just be sure to poly anything that may be in the weather.
Your camera man is a great value-add, lucky you!
Holly- I've have a great husband who supports me in all of my ventures. I couldn't do it without him. Thank you for acknowledging him. It will make his day! :)
I am late to the party but trying to catch up! Did you seal your sign with a poly or clear varnish?
Ginger- I did seal the sign afterwards. I used a polycrylic to protect it for the elements since it hangs outside. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Beautiful love this thank you so much ❤️
Bernie- Thank you! Happy new year! Blessings- Kelly
Love it.
Jane- Thanks so much!
If you turn your vinyl over and burnish from the back it will transfer to your tape better. Cute sign though
Ann Marie- Thanks so much for the tip! I'll try it. Blessings- Kelly
Great job. Wouldn't you know when you video you would have fustrations. We all do.
Jeannie- thanks so much! Yep- we run into little bumps in the road since we mostly are winging it! Have a great new year! Blessings- Kelly
Which brand of transfer paper are you using? I would love to find one that's not so sticky.
Thank you so much! :-D
What kind of transfer paper is that? Need some not so sticky
Is sealing wax the same as sanding sealer?
I don't believe so . The sealing wax is more liquified wax then traditional. It's easier to spread on your project. I'm not familiar with sanding sealer.
Where do you buy the sealing and antique wax?
For this sign I used products I got from Lowe's.
Do you seal the finished sign if it is going outside?
Lori- Definitely seal it if it's going outside! I like a water based poly so it doesn't yellow. Varathane is a good one. Put on several coats and let them cure before putting the sign outside. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Is your stencel done with a cricut?
Cynthia- It's vinyl I cut with my Silhouette Cameo.
What kind of transfer paper did you use?
Suzanne- I've tried several brands but like this one the best: amzn.to/2uowBVY. I like the grid lines to help line things up. Also, I usually cut the amount I need and then press it to a board first to get some of the stickiness off. I will use the same piece several times. Hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
