My 04, which I regret selling to this day, was pretty reliable. Most of the issues were from normal wear and tear. As delivered, it came with several of the problems associated with the 04 model; needed a front end alignment due to the dealer not doing proper prep(many dealers didn't know to remove the spacers or whatever they were that were supposed to keep the struts from collapsing on the trip over), Also had the dealer adjust the tire inflation, which they had not checked before delivery and the gauges had to be reflashed due to a glitch. Very common on 04's. Also had the sticking ignition switch problem, but that seemed to take care of itself.
Over the course of nearly 8 years and 154,000 miles, I would call the following repairs/replacements normal wear and tear....
Several sets of headlight and tail light bulbs, including two sets of HIDs
1 radiator, which I replaced with a Griffin radiator designed only for 04 GTOs
1 serpentine belt
3 thermostats
Lots of oil. Usually Mobil 1, but I also tried Amsoil and Royal Purple, always with Wix filters. Ran Royal Purple in the gearbox as well
3(maybe 4) batteries, including an Optima red top which lasted less than 2 years.
Brakes twice. Replaced the front rotors with DBA slotted rotors and C5 pads
Right front hub assembly( Don't remember the exact mileage, but over 100K).
Headliner. Also had the driver's side lower seat bolster repaired and repadded at the same time
Reglued the Alcantara on the driver's side door
Replaced the motor mounts with poly mounts, which ripped apart in about 3 1/2 years. Replaced those with mounts from Whiteline and they were great!
Repaired the trunk release wire ( three times) that was a common problem on 04's and was redesigned for 05/06.
Replaced two windshields and had the hood repainted twice.
And tires. Lost count.
Sorry for the length of the reply....
No apology needed this was awesome. Thinking of pulling the trigger on an 06 I found at the moment.
I can relate to the trunk release issue as well as the radiator replacement. Otherwise, 75k miles and 12+ years of ownership, no major issues.
@@jeffadams4590whats the trunk replacement?
It says in the GTO owners manual to add an extra quart of engine oil for racing!! never read that in any other car owners manual!! awesome!!
Thats crazy!
I have an 04, have been told there's a piston slap? I don't drive it hard. Bought it new. Have you heard of piston slap issues?
The GTO at 22 seconds was mine. Appreciate the love homie.
awesome man! and your welcome!
That sound is amazing!
Rear tires are not wide enough.
2004 here. No issues after almost 15 years. The LS1's are much more proven motors than the LS2's though. Pretty much the reason the LS2's did not stay around for long.
My horn just randomly honks once in a while. Doesn't bother me, just makes me laugh
hey dude my 04 does the same thing ... in the 25k i've put on the car its probably done it like 20x all together. its so weird the first time i thought i was on the radio, then i started thinking i was hearing shit... one of the crazy parts is that 90% of the random beeps i've gotten have all been on the same road!!! in all the driving i put on this thing and it keeps happening on the same road is weird shit... I was starting to think it was an environmental thing hah. I thought maybe water shorting out the horn, but i dont think its just one of the horns cuz it sounds exactly like the regular horn, and the steering wheel switch you have to really press that thing to beep so i just dont know but i think im gonna swap out the horn relay and see if it goes away cuz its so random and only happens for like half a second every time, its the same exact length and beep every single time...
My 05 has Done that a few times also.
G'day from down under... My Monaro does the same weird thing. Check the body control module for loose or chafed wiring. Also, not sure if the export Pontiacs had the same anti-theft warning system... mine has a horn on the firewall which has a higher pitched beep than the regular horns.
So it seems that they have wiring issues of some sort then?
thanks for the info man! and everyone in the comments! looking to purchase an 05-06 for my 30th bday in a couple years. definitely will keep all this in mind!
My wife and I are both into old school muscle cars. Part of the reason is we were teenagers in the 70s, and those were the cool new and "new used" cars that we and others had or drove. The other thing is the look, sound, and mechanical vs electronic adjustments. Having said that, out of all of the styles of "muscle" cars in the timespan of the last GTO models, I love the look and performance of those cars. I wouldn't mind having a procharged 6.0 with a few durability upgrades. I have a 70 440 6bbl 5 speed manual Roadrunner and my wife has a 65 421 Tripower 4 speed manual GTO.
Bruh thank you for this video🙏🏼 looking into getting one and this is huge. God bless brotha
Body control module wiring rubs on dashboard bracket on passenger side behind the glove box. Mine blew fuses while using the turn signals. I taped the exposed wire and wrapped a 2 inch section of fuel hose around the bracket. No problems for 10 years.
Richard McDowell awesome my flashers went out right before left so good to know
That went on mine 2 days after I left the dealership lol, oddly enough the only major problem since has been the radiator and the rear seat stitching around the shoulders. I did Coil overs and all the bushings and assorted things pretty early on so I may have dodged a bullet in that sense though.
My ABS light 💡 and no traction control comes on every time I drive longer than 45 mins. Do you think 🤔 the BCM might be causing this?
@@67judge Possibly. I also hear they have issues with the stock battery ground wire so you may want to add an extra ground.
These things are pretty bulletproof, it overheated once due to a bad thermostat and temp was 260-270+ degrees F, and overheated again in idle when a tune forgot to kick my fans on and temp was also 260+ and engine is still fine with 85K miles
The seats were sewn with thread that was not UV stabilized / treated so it disintegrates over time. Mechanically, pretty good for the age. On manuals, the clutch slave cylinder tends to go out as well as the throw out bearing.
I bought a gto about a year ago and randomly seen this vid on my homepage. i also lived in alaska for 4 yrs, when you said you were in alaska i said oh shit let me see if i know where hes at. Bro i stayed in those same cabins!! lol. So crazy.
great video! my 04 has some really weird electrical issues but all in all I agree! GTOs are surprisingly very reliable and a great daily if you wanted to treat it that way. Keep it up Trey
Malcolm that seems to be a issues with the 04s but yes great car
I love my 04 too compared to having two mustangs gts In the past I would choose my goat over any day
I have an '04 as well, and it was said higher up in the comments that you should check out the body module wiring below the glovebox on the passenger side for the harness rubbing on a body bracket. I checked my car when it was new and fixed it before it became a problem and have had no problems at all.
This video helped my research about the GTO
Needed to replace my oil pressure switch. Put a C5 Corvette part in. Needed a bigger clutch master cylinder because my clutch would stick to the floor during high rpm pulls. Blew up my ecm using a flash tuner. But getting a all new computers fixed my blinker problem lol. Now it's just my driver side door lock is funky
Strut mounts have always been a problem on the Holden VT VX VY VZ sedans since they rolled out of the Holden plant. Just buy aftermarket ones. Holden seats are not the best quality seats. If you can grab a set from from a wrecker, grab it even if you don't need it just yet. If anyone is after parts, I'd suggest go on eBay & go to Australian wreckers that do ship to the USA. Look up under Holden V2/VZ Monaro. I don't know how much an upholsterer will charge in the US but here in Australia, they charge like a wounded bull.
Keep your Monaro/GTO's going!
Local upholster couldnt even find a swatch to match the leather grain. Ended up buying a whole rear seat.
Only problem is GM killed Pontiac and thereby the GOAT. Love my '05.
Scott Morrison it’s a holden Monaro/commodore which gm also killed sadly
@@snitz157 it's labeled as a Pontiac GTO in the USA. We know it's a Holden Monaro, but everything here says it's Pontiac GTO.
You forgot to mention the wonderful, exciting, built like a tank (and looked like one) Aztek!
Love mine too
@Mentor Tairi fully agree with you Mentor Tairi!
Changed out radius rod bushings, to Kollar urethane, also wiring cover over fuel line in engine bay.
128k miles strong, fixed the BCM wire harness problem causing my window switches to stay on. Love my GTO
Another driver!! I'm at 120k right now. Love that damn car.
@@rockymountaingto2334 i found one for 6500 no problems only thing is 170,000 miles and its 04 5.7
Hey guy on your comment you was talkin about the struts collapsing when they put them on the boats and tie them down I was a car hauler I drove a portable parking lot a lot of times the struts were broken when they was put on the trucks because they would use chain on the frames and a pull-down like they would do o other cars they actually sent us out a notice do not chain those cars down we were too soft tie them in other words we had to put straps around the tires
My stock 2 piece driveshaft was falling apart (carrier and couple bearings wear out over the years.) Replaced with a 1 piece aluminum DS from Gforce1320. My ABS module was bad, so I had an ABS fault, airbag fault, and traction control wasn't adjustable. I recommend testing yours before you replace your BCM if you run into this issue. I got a used one off of a junkyard site for $102 shipped. Brand new they are $900. Stock Radiators like to crack and leak over the years. Steering Rack does the same and also gets loose.
Is oil starvation an issue on ascending steep grades, such as the "Grapevine" or the "Cajon Pass", which both have a 7% grade?! Is the stock oil pan adequate for traveling up steep grades, or should the oil pan and baffles system be replaced? Thanks.
I have an 04 and I just replaced my one piece shaft since the previous one broke and what I’ve done to avoid popping my fuse is just pull it before I go in reverse. The new reverse switch thing worked for a while but it did break again.
I had an 04. Cam, Heads, Headers, throttle body, Intake, intake manifold, 3800 stall, SLP Loudmouth exhaust. The problems I had with mine was the steering column went bad, window regulators were going out, The gas tank fuel filler neck had to get replaced, had to get a new radiator, and that's really it. No oil or electrical problems. None with the drive shaft. It's untimely demise is when the trans started slipping. But it gave me 130,000 miles out of it
I know this is a 3 year old video, but I’ll make comments anyway. I’ve been in AK for over 40 years and I’ve owned my 04 GTO for over 10 years and love it! Too many mods to list here, but it’s a summer DD that makes close to 750rwhp. It runs mid 10’s (I know it has more in it, but traction is an issue. My next steps are rear adjustable coil overs and 275/50-15 drag radials), Autocrosses fairly well too. If you’re still here in AK or are coming back, let me know!
05 GTO all stock. I bought it brand new has 186000 miles on it. My issues mainly center around little annoying things. Trunk release doesn't work. I find myself having to use the emergency release behind the rear passenger seat too open the trunk. My seat backs have come off on both sides. The glove compartment doesn't work anymore. In fact the whole thing fell apart so I just took it off all together. I know you young cats don't use CDs anymore but my CD player doesn't really play my CDs anymore. Outside of that this is been an extremely reliable car. The only mechanical issue that I currently deal with periodically is coming from the rear end and that clicking sound it comes and goes it's annoying and you looking on UA-cam I can't really find a fix for it. The local dealerships don't seem to have a fix for it either they're giving me blah blah blah remedies so I know they don't know what exactly they would be fixing without just replacing all the parts hoping to fix the issue.
Thanks good pointers I am wanting to buy a ride for the track a gto sounds like good candidate.
I have an 04 with less than 20k. One main issue is the rear seat stitching. Fixed with my favorite Upholstry guy. From that time on, leather maintaintance and keep out of the sun when not driving it...... I get the most attention with this car from Subaru WRX and Mustang owners. They seem to know about this car. Otherwise, a real sleeper.
I bought an 06 a few years ago and the rear main seal gave out..other than that i loved the car.. i put a cai, american racing header, and slp loudmouth exhaust on it.. it was loud and mean..
I had a 04 5.7 GTO beater and a 06 garage queen. I never had any issues with either. I Did replace a cracked radiator on my 06 but its fisher price working on these and the rad was Japanese so a $200 fix. Use Mobil 1 synthetic like it says on the cap. Change it every 3500mi and you beat the hell out of them. They are bulletproof
Nice. Mine looks very similar to that red one in the video, except I have a Dtm widebody kit. Same rims. The exhaust sounds identicle to it also. I love my Goat :)
Zog 1991 I want to see that body kit
Oh yeah! I like the end bit of this video !
Oil starvation occurs in the GTO and Trailblazer SS because they have a front sump oil pan. Under hard acceleration, all the oil rushes to the back of the pan and away from the sump, away from the pickup tube and there's your low oil pressure. Improved racing's baffled oil pan is a must if you do a lot of hard acceleration.
As far as your backup lights, you might consider switching to LED bulbs which use a lot less power and have a lot less resistance. I did a video on upgrading all the bulbs in my car to LEDs you might want to check out.

Josh's Car Corner thanks for the added info!!
I just checked out their pan baffle. Looks like a great deal for $199. I've always wanted to track/drift my GTO but I never have due to the concern of it blowing up due to low oil pressure while undergoing high G's. Glad that there is a cheap fix. Thanks for the info.
Hartomotive True it’s a cheap fix but my local speed shop will charge me $1900 for labor.
That Baby Shark GTO that happened to mines but I got a pair of resistors from Amazon and added them to fix that problem.
I subbed to you bro
Forward stop backs out. Literally a nut on the front of the shifter that kinda stops you from "popping gears" backed out too far. You could imagine awe as I'm going full race car my buddy's RT and I go to slam in in 5th and it throws the shifter back at me lmfao. (You lose all forward gears (1st, 3rd, 5th, Reverse)) Heard it was a pretty common problem on the Trans Ams as well.
yo, you forgot the front radius rod bushings thing. When you brake it causes the steering wheel to start shaking because of bad oem rubber bushing. upgrading them is easy and very effective
littleAE86thatcould link?
Do you have a stock suspension or what set up are you running in your car
Have u ever had problems with the key fob not working with the car ? And anti theft system lock keeps blinding ? The key worked before now it’s not working and my GTO is stuck in theft mode
Wire harness under the dash rubs and will cause Tai light fuses to blow if not wrapped
Definitely check for paint finish issues too. The clear coat on my gas cap completely bubbled off out of nowhere. Crazy! Not sure what I am going to do. Try to get them to try to match the paint or just paint it black?? My original color is Torrid Red.
i had a 04 with 115k and the only problems i had was first gear syncros, cracked plastic on the radiator, rear seat stitching from sitting in the sun, and had bad wheel hop
I’ve got an 05 and my gauge cluster is going crazy only wen the a/c is off but works just fine wen it’s full blast the a/c that is.. can anyone help on this.. any known fixes..
I haven’t had to fix anything on my 04 with 92k miles thank god. Only modification I’ve done is ported the throttle body and i bought some pacesetter headers and some slp exhaust but haven’t installed them yet:/
Throttle pedal position sensor only way to fix is to convert it over to a c6 Corvette pedal w and tech takes careful wiring and will have to figure out a new mount do to the discontinued pedal that pontiac used they are impossible to find and wen you do find one it's used and may also fail and want both your arms for it
On manual transmission cars the clutch master cylinder kind of sucks. That, in combination with the rubber high pressure line feeding to the slave, can result in issues with the clutch not fully disengaging- especially under 'spirited' driving conditions. The stock clutch isn't all that great either- even more so when you start throwing power mods at it. It is also extremely frustrating flushing and bleeding the stock hydraulics due to the location of the bleed screw.. I replaced my entire clutch system with a Tick master cylinder, stainless braided hydraulic line, new slave, a LS7 clutch, and remote bleeder. It completely changed the driveability of the car. Night and day difference. Also, the stock shifter is pretty bad.
looking for all info I can before I buy an 06, thanks!
Had to replace mine at about 40k miles
Only problem I've noticed is my window switches the sometimes do not work I'm sure it's just dirty contacts I've also had to replace them because the first set went straight through and broke lol
Only problem I ever had was the clutch. The Vette clutch on ls2 just isn't made to race with
Address the security system with the bcm.
What cam?
The problems I have had with my '06: Replaced the tranny once (went ahead and put a solid driveshaft in at the time), the key cylinder of the ignition switch is junk, occasionally I get an air bag fault alarm that locks in without any faults locked in, and the back seat has splits in it.
Has anyone got a fix for the air bag fault or key cylinder thing? For the air bag, I bought a Matco code reader and just clear it from time to time. For the key cylinder, I took all the little brass "teeth" (I don't know what they are called) out of the cylinder and just drive it that way. It's those little brass "teeth" that keep getting wadded up. I know that when you spray WD40 in there, it just makes it worse. Only a dry lube seems to make any sort of difference.
Also, has anyone done the rear seat delete thing? Any regrets?
interior seems to fall apart on these cars like headliners, seat stitching, door panel fabric.. some faster than others depending on what state you're in..recently moved to a more humid area and my headliner started to sag, door panel suade began bubbling up in some places
Good ole GM quality. I have a cousin with a Corvette of that era h a friend with an '06 GTO....Yeah interiors are low quality. Shit breaks inside...
On the 2004, the gauge clusters are known to just go out. The computer gets stuck on stupid. Mine needs to be reset it thinks it needs an oil change. Also the blaupunkt stereo can have problems. I havent heard of the 04's having any of the problems you mentioned though. Interesting how just a year can change so many things. But I'm not complaining at all. I absolutely love my car. I have an 04 phantom black. It's the best, total sleeper.
I have a automatic bright red 05. I like it so much I've been looking for a steal on a 2nd one. Im trying to find a nice 6 speed 04.
I love the rear bumper on the 04s with the exhaust pipes coming out one side. It looks so much cleaner Imo. The Goat is a muscle car with class.
is it possible to put 20s on the goat
Love my goat 🐐 I do agree with the fucking driver seat by left shoulder ripping pretty much..and coming to stop sometimes can feel the back kinda clump or jerk in the wheels not exactly sure what it is YET. I did have a trans flush and new filter put on cause of slipping when i first got it
Batteries die if not driven on a regular basis. Something drains them. On 4th battery with 65K miles. Bought new in 2006. Love the car. Hard to find these days. Estimated only 5K left in circulation.
I really want a 6.0 one but I was told the 5.7 was better since the 6.0 has “problems “ apparently
I have an 2004 gto havent had that many problems but one issue i had to solve was my ignition switch...Kept locking up but i thing i solved that problem...
No crank no click but still have accessory lights may be starter wires or ignition switch my GTO has long tubes ive heard after market exhaust can cause things like burned starter wires or even shortening the life of the starter from the excess heat once i figure this problem out ill post the solution
I don’t think what I have as common problems but my 3 are:
1 my rear driver license plate lamp don’t work anymore.
2 l upgraded to the better ignition cylinder housing and every time I start the car I have to jam the key 🔑 into the hole hard several times before it will finally go in so I can start the car.
And lastly which also happened after the ignition cylinder upgrade. When l turn the steering wheel fully to the right or left I hear 👂 a click. Any suggestions before I go to the Stealership?
The last part could happen due to your clockspring overturning, dont force it or itll be a pain in the ass to fix. It happens a lot on gtos after headers due to having to disconnect the steering knuckle
Sagging suspension, fuel lines rubbing on 05, hanger bearing, some people have said weak shift knob. I recently had the rearmain seal and oilpan gasket go bad at 23k miles.
Mine is bad too at 116000
bought mine in 2007 3300 mi, love it, still call it an ugly corvette i am aware of all the issues.waterpump, alternator, batteries, stiching.brake cylinder.,sorry to say love it more than my 70 gto.
my dads had alot of different gto's and lemans and he loves my gto more than all of them, alot of people hate on them until they see, hear, and ride in one
Watch the computer. Mine went out at 62,000. Could not get a new one so bought used and reprogrammed, found out the car that shed this computer was on its #2 computer too. It was not the original one. The car I got this from had only 20,000 miles on the car when it went in for this second computer.
Hey bro I have a 06 gto. It runs nice and all. But ah when I rev it up while in neutral a burnt smell comes through the vents. There's no knocking coolant is fine oil levels are fine. Just wondering is it something to worry about?
Check for leaks between the engine and the tranny , you could have an small rear main seal leak that runs down and drops over the cats so it gets burned and smells
One other thing, the stock radiator is known to develop cracks in the plastic ends and will leak.
See ive heard being from Australia their radiators were built for harsh Austrian out back
My radiator exploded
Exploded wtf. How do u prevent this
@@Temps217 idk it literally just happened. Simply just bought a new one. Gotta do my water pump when I get off vacation. Pissing everywhere.
Yup, I have an '05 and in the Phoenix heat, i've gone through 4 radiators in the 11 years i've owned it.
My passenger seat is starting to come apart and hardly anyone sits there. The drivers seat 💺 is toast. Waiting on a new seat cover from AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺.
Top mounts and bearings crumble to dust on the regular, need to be upgraded on stock cars.
Top mounts and bearings?...what exactly are you saying?...I want to buy one of these but your comment is confusing.
@@rickmassey1272 the top mounts and bearings at the top of your front suspension setup. The front end is incredibly heavy and those parts take a beating over time. Worn out they ruin the ride quality.
Fairly cheap to replace but often overlooked.
My traction control liked to turn itself off when driving it hard. After I installed depo led taillights as soon as I start the car traction control turns itself off.
Alternator likes to overcharge every now and again causing the car to go into a protection mode I guess. When I turn the car off it will act like the battery is dead. Take off the battery terminals for a few seconds then reconnect and the car will start right up.
My 05 likes to get heat soaked and is very noticeable in throttle response and acceleration.
Headliner, seats, and oil consumption lol
Still love my Goat though
My traction control doesn’t work at all when I installed my Depo led tail lights.
But I changed to another led brand of lights and the traction control works fine. I guess it was the 2 added resistors that came with the kit.
I installed LED bulbs and ran into the same problem. Fixed the problem by running a 6 ohm resistor (the common LED correcting one) parallel to one of the running light circuits.
Mine throws the traction control off warning on the dash when my transmition shifts hard, as in on a hill or etc. Which in turn causes the car to slam into gear and my traction control switch no longer works. Kill the car and pull the key, put it right back in and start it up and the car runs fine, shifts fine and everything works as it should. Still have no idea what the problem is
Could be the mass airflow sensor, I had the same problem on mine. I put a new maf in there and it has worked fine ever since
@@yadifan101 just had it throw the codes again and i check my tuner and your spot on, thanks for the help 🤙🤙
The ignition lock housing is a common problem the the gto has. My 06 gto is in the shop now with that problem. And with this General Motors strike going on I can get mine out the shop 👎🏽
I've never had a car loose so much power from air temp and turning the ac on. If it's over 95 and I have the ac on it legit feels like I loose 100hp. Does the IAT relocate actually help with heat soak?
Yes a ton!
My strut mounts blew out on my 04 for sure.
Sagging headliners..peeling suede on panels..seat stitching..missing paint on the door handles..shuddering and steering wheel shake when braking..hazy/fogged headlights..bumper fitment where it meets the fenders...youre welcome
Sounds like bad care imo
@@sucio- yeah, some of it is preventable.
What do you have on your rear end? Like the axels
isaac flores gforce level 2 stubs and stock axles
I own a 06 BOM now and its so problematic.. before i had an 04 and hardly ever had any problems.. it was my workhorse..
Trey in one of your other vids you say you were thinking about running a 3.9 crown wheel and pinion.
I have a 3.9 fitted to my Ute, it is putting out 670fwhp and I am thinking of fitting a 3.7 as I find the 3.9 a little low. With it being supercharged I have loads of low down torque. Just a thought for you. Keep up the great vids.
bonesXU1 yes I was considering it for around town fun haha I probably will hold off. I plan on building the car up a bit more so I don’t think that’s a needed mod for me. Thanks for the support!! 👊🏽
Ok I don't see anything in the comments about the windows in the 2004-2006 gates, so I recently bought a 2005 gto and both windows left and right come off track and bind up constantly the passenger window actually shattered the first night I bought it and had to replace the window, anyone know how to permanently fix this problem
The window seal at the bottom (both front and rear) have come unglued. You will need to pull door panel, and JB weld the bottom of the seal. When the seal comes unglued, the window will bind the seal and cause window drag. Search the issue on LS1.com. Alot of information about this and how to repair.
Paint chipping on door handles.
Swith to the metal Cadillac catera door handles.
Common problem the door handles! Also interior stitching really sucks too. Premature sun damage rots it out!!!$
@@davidgardiner4620even with proper routine condtioning?
I've had a lot of trouble with the stitching coming undone in my factory seats. I do live in Dallas Texas so it's hot as balls during the summer but wonder if anyone else had this problem. I already bought some used seats and replaced them, same factory seats. Mine actually started splitting way back in 2007.
Oh yeah! Do you treat them weekly with conditioner?
@@mikeprice8307 not weekly. But I did treat the ones I had every couple months which should have been plenty. Plus, the stitching starting to come undone when the car was just 3 years old shouldn't have happened even if I hadn't taken care of the leather. The replacement seats I put in have had zero issues, I think I just got soem bum seats where the stitching wasn't done properly.
@@bobbycone2 I'm starting to treat mine more now than ever! My back seat head rest area was upholstered when I purchased it and it's still wanting to give.
When I bought the car I purchased a nice set of leatherette cuatom covers for front row from coverking that lasted 11 years and took care of that row by themselves. I never conditioned the seats underneath but the leather did harden more so on passenger due to no usage. It kept the driver side pristine.
I wish I would have gotten some for back row bc now they dont offer it.
I recommend them for any car. Just got a leather set for front row of my challenger
@@mikeprice8307 I should have done that as well. You've got a challenger as well? Same here. The GTO hasn't been my daily driver since 2014, I got a 2012 Challenger SRT8 but unfortunately it's on its death bed. Cylinder 5 isnt working, damn hemi tick started about a year ago and I've got metal in my oil from the lifter hitting the cam and wearing it away.
@@bobbycone2 sorry to hear that! That's your reason to hurry and get a new one since they stopped making them recently!
I had a Detonator Yellow 2010 SRT-8, now 2017 HC Go-green.
Always wanted an 06 gto but where I live its few and far between and the one thing that sucks is most of the fair deal ones have high mileage [100,000/+]and they ask roughly 8000-12000. Might have to look out of state for one that's got good mileage and is a decent price.
Those 100k '06s are now 18-20k euuugh :(
@@ze_ep got one for 13k! 99k miles
Also what all LS engines have, and my 05 had, was a collapsed lifter. This will cause a tick tick tick tick until it fills with oil.
2 piece drive shaft with a carrier bearing is junk, clutch packs in rear end will go out and sound like a bowling ball rolling around in the trunk. Synchronizers in the transmission around just (gears pop out on the regular while your driving including reverse). The whole stock suspension is junk and needs to be upgraded. Evap canister will clog up and cause you the pump about 25 cents worth at a time before the pump cuts off (will REALLY piss you off).Fenders will split at the wheel well. Tires will rub against the struts causing blow outs (should have been a safety recall but it doesn’t effect ALL of the cars so we never saw one). Fuel line will rub against the block from vibration (on some) risking your car to burn down to the ground with you in it (was also never recalled). Even with all of this, I was the proud owner of an 04’ PBM MT and I went out after (about 6 grand in upgrades) I was hit head on and bought an 06 PBM MT. Why you ask? Because these cars are so few and far between and they’re B.A.D A.S.S!
I have a 2005 gto LS2, that I always had an issue were my battery gets drain after 3 days of not starting it, do you have any tips that can help to resolve this.
jesus virgen something must be drawing power while the engine is off, theres alot of threads on this
@@robertpendergast6409 by any chance do you have any idea what it could be, I changed the alternator. New battery, checked if any light my stay on but still does it
I have an '06 and it does the same thing, I bought a trickle charger and have to keep it on it all the time. I don't drive it much, it only has 40,000 on it, and everytime I'd go to start it, the battery would barely turn it over or it would be dead and just click.
I really need some advice from the fellow gto owners, I own a 2006 gto with 110,000 miles. The front tires have worn out on the inside fairly quick. I’ve done lots of research and could be strut rub, bad alignment, bad bushings, etc. what would you guys suggest first?
Shawn you can adjust the front camber on your factory assembly really easily. Also get strut mounts/bearings and radius bushings should take car of the front end
Trey Herrera okay thanks for the answer, would you suggest just getting the same 245/45 tires or go down to a 235?
Trey Herrera also do you suggest getting OEM replacement bushings or should I get an aftermarket bushing, I would assume use aftermarket since they are typically made out of poly instead of rubber
2005 GTO owner here, very late to this conversation, but if you don't mind a slightly rough ride (or very rough if you have performance springs) a full poly replacement is the way to go. If not, avoid a full poly bushing change, but do put in a poly strut mount. The rubber ones are under too much stress and fail pretty quickly.
Plastic interior pieces suck. Would love if there were brushed aluminum etc. Replacement/dress up parts.
The front strut mounts are definitely a weak point. I'm surprised how few companies that make polyurethane parts for GTOs make poly strut mounts. Most of them are just rubber.
I think I'm just going to hold out for a used Corvette Stingray.
2004 GTO - Ignition Lock Cylinder Sticks and may prevent the car from starting. However, in some cases, you might just need to find the sweet spot. As pressing the key in too far may be the cause.
Also, not using the key to unlock the door occasionally may be an issue if the Key Fob Battery dies.
Sent mine to shop by flatbed for this
@@mikeprice8307 I hear you. I was in the process, before I found the cause. Actually, rented a U-Haul, but forgot I couldn't unlock the steering wheel to maneuver the car. Not so fun times.
@@whenniceguysretaliate5619 I recently got stranded bc the ignition would not turn Even with the newer setup
My dad got it to turn but you can feel a difference afterwards
I ran across a lubricant that will help this issue that works wonders that keeps it freed up
I did by a upgraded ignition that's supposed to not lock up and just haven't installed it yet
Many are going with push button but I do t want to get that savvy bc right now I'm just racking up miles and maybe willing to sell it
In my rural area shops are picky accepting cars that are younger than 10 years, evs coming and gto parts are going extinct
Car hobbying ain't the same as in 90s and pre covid
What oil are you running. 5-30w?
Yep. Mobil 1
I should do a video like this about my 09 g8 Gt I have a list of problems lol
Headliner lol
Mike Marquez Definitely
100% headliner
Mines hanging lol
Got a 04 with 22k miles and man love that fuckin thing
My gauges all go zero and the Traction control light comes on every time I get on the highway. Stays that way for about 5 miles and the goes back to normal. WTF Man!
Check the BCM wires behind the glovebox. Very common problem.
Is piston hitting the spark plug common? Just had that happen this weekend my gto is outta commission now :(
Ant sad day!! Can alway do a junkyard 6.0 or 5.3
@@TreyHerrera :( iron block 4.8 moonboost swap😯
Trey Herrera sad day is right! I just got that car 2 months ago. I'm gonna get it rebuilt most likely probably the most expensive route I could take lol
That sucks. Sorry to hear
Im in the market for am 05/06 gto to replace my g6 gtp whos tranny just took a nosedive.. what would cause the piston hitting the spark plug? what should i listen/feel for in a test drive to know if this is happening? is this a common issue?
In Uk .i Just drive it . No Burn/Out No Mods No Dino Just a 6.0 Monaro VXR. Go Fast When Boy Races Try it On . Then That V8 Comes 2 Life
The slave cylinder seems to go bad. I wouldn't call it a coincidence that mine and two other peoples have gone bad. If you replace the slave and clutch, I highly recommend a remote bleeder from Tick Performance. Makes it much simpler!
The slave cylinder on my 04 basically exploded at around 65,000 miles. It was time for a new clutch as well, and it was still going strong when my dumb ass sold the car over 80,000 miles later.
Mine went right after I got it. It had only 29,500 on it. Owner used it for a weekend driver but it mostly set in the garage. Like new too. Ignition switch will go watch it too. Put in a stiffer spring from a lock smith works fine now. It was my third switch. Watch the computer mine went at 62,000. But this computer has my car running great now...better than ever.
Ecm harness issues too
Do you recommend getting a GTO with 160000 miles
Greed land Yes just expect to put in some work
The seats. When I bought it the back seats had split up top.i just noticed about 2 days ago My passenger seat now has about 5 inch split on outside top bolster. My trunk won't lock. It stays down but anyone can't lift it up. My hood hydraulics went out so and there's no prop stick.
My 05 rear seats came apart at the stitches when it was about a year and a half old, the dealer ordered replacement seat covers and I waited for about 4 months, they kept telling me it was because they were coming from Australia. I called about every 2 weeks, Then they told me they sent them back because I didn't schedule an appointment when they arrived, at this point I was past the 36,000 miles. I Still have the GTO, but it is the last GM product I will own due to their service department.
Wow I would have sued
The black gto with Missouri plates was my cousin they wrecked it on a rainy day smh!!
Low oil because LS2.
