Me: I don't want a GTO
Alex: you want a GTO
Me: I want a GTO
Tyler: You don't want the modern Holden manero gto you want a real one, a classic GTO any year of your choice besides the modern one
Tyler Vogel Suck my 05 GTO exhaust!!! You have no clue how awesome these cars are. I noticed you didn’t comment how fast they are compared to old GTO’s. That’s right Grandpa...you’ll get smoked!!!
Sorry other modern car enthusiasts for my extremely long comment reply to bad gto but I am very passionate about classics and feel like we should continue to recognize and take care of them because they are history and are a big part in why we still have cars and continue to keep moving forward and to keep going faster. From the start of the automobile to now there has been and continues to be sooo much innovation. Now I might hate how fucking ugly modern cars are but the technology they have is sooo bad ass and has came a very long way and I completely admire and respect the work that goes into the technical part of today's cars but not there styling. I will never forget the vehicles of yesterday that transport us to now and the vehicles of today that will be yesterday's vehicles. Please never forget the classic vehicles and the passion people have for them whether you are from those same eras or are just 18 years old and not able to get your classic dream car yet.
Best bang-for-the-buck in a car with over 400hp that I ever bought. I dont see my car every 2miles like the Camaro, Charger, Mustang. Next pick G8 or SS.
I agree, you dont see those every where. I wanted the last body style Gto but couldn't find a decent priced one. Then they came out with the G8 and i got one of those. Had it 10 years now, with 200k miles on it, it still runs like new. I ended up getting a SS later but still wished i could've gotten a GTO.
I mean you could say that about the Corvette too, but we all know which one we would rather own. I only say that because of the price similarity between a manual 6.0 vette and a manual 6.0 gto and the gto isn't the best looking.
Say it with me
Monaro (mah_nah_row)
Not Morano, that's a nissan
Ok I literally just stopped the video to see if anyone else noticed that he said Holden morano, I'm glad I'm not going crazy. As a proud Australian, it hurts to hear that one of the greatest vehicles ever built by this great nation is being misnamed. Rip Monaro 1968-2006
More people like this comment please cause I’m getting tired of owning a Holden Morano 💀
I owned a 2004 Torrid Red GTO, pretty much bone stock other than Exhaust, headers & tune and it was a super fun vehicle, picked it up for $8500 with 96k original miles, it did have its typical Pontiac problems, the trunk latch was completely destroyed so access to the trunk was impossible, even pulling the release cable didn’t work lol. Windows rolled down super slow, and the fuel door loved making pools when it rain, but overall it was a great car, I got fantastic gas mileage out of it (believe it or not).. the GTO is a super underrated car - once I got rid of it I knew I fucked up so I used the money from my 04’ and got a 06’ GTO that I just finished working on it, bigger cam & heads, and it’s a straight monster. I will 10/10 recommend getting one if you’re looking for something to kill Mustangs & Camaros without going bankrupt.
Did you have the automatic transmission? And if you did do you think it’s good
@@anthonychavez4936 Any research will show you the 4L60e and 4L65e are made of glass. I know because I went through 6 of them before m6 swapping my GTO.
No lies about that battery drain and suspension sag. just remember, 6 liters, not 6.1.
I thought the sagging was because when they brought them here to the states, they strapped them down to the ships too hard which resulted in suspension components going bad early, such as the rear springs sagging?
I found out shortly after acquiring an 06 that if you a) have the light switch on auto b) have the car running when you open the door that the bcm will sometimes leave the lights on and never shut them off. Simple fix.... Turn the lights to off as I do 👍
@@fpaltenhoff86 most likely. I never looked into the cause of the sag, just installed some BC coilovers and was done with it.
@@csack7904 he didn't mention "teh clunk" either, though it wasn't all that common of an issue.
Cheap strut mounts makes it sag. I have to replace mine every one to two years as they like to collapse.
2005 GTO owner here!
Tons of fun to drive once the weak suspension parts are replaced and/or upgraded. The tires are too narrow and there isn't much room to get wider ones without widening the car, too. Body/interior parts are hard to get, chassis parts are okay, and the LS is going to have tons of support so that aspect is at least easy to live with. They definitely have a weird niche carved out, but I like that about it.
I feel your pain. I own an SS and body parts and suspension parts are hard to find but I can get engine and drivetrain parts all day
Some fixes:
1. The name isnt Morano its Monaro.
2. Not a 6.1L its a 6.0 LS2 for 2005 and 2006.
3. They don't sag because of weight, they sag because of the way they are strapped down in shipping.
4. The only issues with an aging GTO is the ignition will lock up, GM came up with a replacement part that is hardened steel. The oil pickup is also in front of the motor so it can oil starve when doing launches.
I still regret selling my 04 6spd. Without a hood scoop it made for a pretty good sleeper. Awesome road trip car, set cruise at 90 and that car would basically idle down the road at almost 30mpg.
Great car . Had my 06 for for 10 years , never let me down, no problems, replaced 1 battery, and one set of tires, thats it . Best bang for buck . Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it which isn't much. Hasn't done 60,000 km yet .
Ok pretty good bit to unpack here, I own an 04 LS1 so lemme go over some things.
First the 04 came with a 5.7 LS1 (350hp) the 05-06 came with a 6.0 LS2 (400hp)
First things to check on the car suspension mainly bushings, if they are still on the stock rubber ones spend some time to change them out to poly's .
Next there isn't a stock offering to adjust the rear camber, you'll have to buy an adjuster for the out control arm.
Unless you catch a deal, coilovers run around the same price and drop spring and shocks.
This car runs extremely high offsets in the rear. making it fairly difficult to find great staggered setup with little body involved You can get away common offsets in the front range from +35-45 on an 8.5 wheel running a 235 tire. In the rear most run a +45 on a 9.5" in. wheel running 265 or 270's with mild fender trimming. There are some outliers that have managed up to a 265 squared tire setup but if you aren't doing any road racing it more trouble than it's worth.
Never experienced the fuel line problem mention and I've owned my car since 07 and have put 140K miles on it since then.
Also take car of your headlights, they are starting get harder and more expensive to locate and the only aftermarket option are from Spyder.
If you plan run dumped or aired out if may be more beneficial to run shorty headers and midpipes vs long tubes. Most longtubes available once installed will up being the lowest point of you car , with shorties they stay tucked up where the factory exhaust was.
I'll submit my GTO to the Gallery once I get it detailed.
i thought it was weird he kept saying 6.1, my shit has a 6.0 badge lol
Bought mine new in '05. About the headlights. OEM's are over $700 a piece now so I got the Spyders. They look good and the lamps that came with them burnt in little time, what else is wrong with the Spyder lights?
Had mine for 6 years, I've parted out more gtos than most people have owned cars. Only thing I would add is to make sure to check the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. Other than that just regular checks like you should be doing on any other car. Mines been a reliable tank of a car really.
Everyone hates on them. I love them. Very much.
I was torn between this and a firebird and I ultimately chose the firebird due to the superior weight distribution. Still love the GTO though.
@@GoldenGrenadier I traded a 2001 WS6 in on my gto. It was an automatic. Good running car. Still miss it. But the gto was my dream car. Both fantastic bargins!

No I already have one. And yeah more like a ticket after 24 hours of ownership. Love my GTO.
BTW seen your boy at cruise 2.0 this last Saturday in Eau Claire. He had that blue BRZ
A few days ago my dumb ass gunned it in front of a cop but I onky got up to 40 before I saw him...vop didn't car or even notice cause I'm driving a v6 camry that's not loud...if I was in a gto I definitely woulfve gotten pulled over cause 40 wouldve been like 60 and he wouldve heard me 🤣🤣
I always notice a GTO. This guy at the local college branch had a nice orange one
These are the Need for Speed Carbon/Most Wanted - Heat level 3 specials
I uses to be so confused when Carbon would call the GTO the Holden Monaro lol
The gto is such a clean car
I've had my 05 GTO for five years now. She's up to 141k miles and after buying a new driveshaft (the rubber in the carrier bearing of the original just got old and fell apart) she's running strong. I still smile every time I start her up and feel that LS shaking my shifter
What kind of driveshaft did you go with ? If you went with a 1 piece do you get vibrations? I’m in the same situation I’m looking at driveshafts as we speak lol
@@marquisquintana5304 I had a shop make me a two piece shaft. Sorry, can't help with the one piece questions
The LS2 is a 6.0 not a 6.1
I was hesitantly watching and then that comment was made. He lost me completely lol
Used to have an 04 GTO with the license plate GOATSE, it was a prized possession of mine.
Ok so a few things from an owner
1) the sag is from front struts mounts. You need to replace these anyways. Stock struts and shocks are actually pretty good.
2) Fuel line does touch the passenger engine cover. You trim it and that's that. Cover the fuel line with some tape and ur good.
3) the difference between the 04 and 05 to 06 is more than just an engine. It's a change from a gen 3 to gen 4 (or 3.5 depending on how u look at it.) It's a different computer setup and fly by wire as opposed to cable driven.
4) the glove box was originally on the opposite side. You are fine with the stock harness. Just don't yank on it.
5) the tires are cheaper than most. Same size as mustangs and other muscle cars.
OMFG ITS HAPPENING annnnnnnnddddd you can barely find one of these for a decent price 😭😭😭

18 years of ownership here. Here are some tid bits I've had to deal with over the years that you didn't mention. The oem alternator is too weak for the load of the electronics with the sound system cranked up I've gone through 3 alternators, the recommended fix its to use a chevy truck alternator. Will do that when the next one dies. The suspension sag in the rear will make the 2 piece drive shaft sit at an odd angle and it will wear out the center support bearing. The front bumper edges will poke out from the sides if the front bumper is ever removed, you have to drill the inside and make your own bracket to fix/prevent this. Front headlight seal wore out too fast and condensation builds up in headlight. Seats were not sewn with long term use in mind, the stitching comes apart easily. The head liner glue wears out too soon and has to be redone. The door lock tabs break easily. The plastic pieces that cover up the seats can break easily. The Speaker mesh on the doors breaks easily. The motors inside the mirrors died too soon, i never bothered to replace those. The under hood liner sags and will melt onto your strut tower bar, I painted my bar twice then figured out why it kept getting discolored lol. Power steering hose clamps are weak and leak eventually. need to replace those. Lots of tiny details but the motor has been SOLID. Would not recommend paying full price like I did, but it has lasted me almost 20 years now and has been worth it to me as far as cost to longevity. But buying one used somewhere under $15k would be perfect.
If you lower a GTO, that would also cause excess wear on the driveshaft as well?
@@trashbandit2449 Lowering it might actually fix the angle a little bit. But the wear isn't on the driveshaft itself, the wear is on the center support bearing rubber and the rubber flex disc.
@@socksonfeet8125 that's what I meant. That's most likely why everyone goes to a one piece? Kind of an annoying flaw to have
I've had two of these cars. 04 & 06, what an era!
I bought a 2004 GTO in November and I am in love with it. Highly recommend picking one up if you want a quick, fun, bald eagle-powered car. They really aren’t as troublesome as everyone makes them out to be and other owners can confirm this. The 04 has an “LS1” but it’s an LS6 block and intake with an LS1 cam and heads. And the 05-06 has a 6.0 LS2, not whatever 6.1 this guy is talking about. 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you for the videos. They are always educational and fun to watch. You guys keep them entertaining! I really needed this video today with seeing all the negativity lately on social media. Thanks for this positivity!
I have a 2004 GTO.. I've LS2 swapped it with a good sized cam, 3200 stall, built transmission, brand new rear end..and just did polyurethane bushings all over the suspension and getting it tuned this week..it's been a damn good car and I absolutely love it!
Got the 04 GTO back in 2010 as my first car with only 33k miles on it. Other than blowing tires and dead batteries it has run like a champ the entire time. I am still driving it to work as my daily and it now has 131K miles on it. It's still great to feel all the power since day one.
Is it a fun car to drive ? I drive a Mazda s6 2004 and I’m looking at this beauty 400hp for less then 13k? A steal
funny yall posted this, ive seen 4 of these in my small town the last few days
I got an 04. It had 11K on it. It's now past 207K. Standard shift. I call it The Silver Bullet. I love my car.
Oh wow I just started binging your videos since I was looking to buy a Focus ST today and you upload this. A GTO is one of my favorite cars I hope to own someday lol
I’ve had two still have the 2nd one, and I love the way it looks!
There I said it I Love the way they look!!!
SO YOU WANT A COBALT SS ASAP, A underrated 4cyl
Found one for $4k but it was too ricey for me (the way the owner modified it)
These are the cars you keep forever. GM made a big mistake when it shut pontiac down. I will keep my 65 , if I can get one of these I will keep it too.
You should do “so you want a kit car”
The only problem with that suggestion is that nobody wants a kit car because people don’t want to be sad phonys
Day 15 of asking FI for a "So you want a Geo Metro" video.
why does it look like suzuki swift 1 ?
im european, never heard about GEO
My auto teacher always used to joke that his geo metro was so fast it wasnt street legal, would then shit talk my honda😂😂
IAsqitI its based on the swift. Geo was GM’s rebadge job to meet emission laws. I had a 1992 metro with the cultus awd and built a 2.0!turbo stoker from a 1.8 suzuki block
One of my neighbors had one, slapped a SLP loudmouth exhaust on it, beautiful. He got told a lot that it sounded like a Ferrari lol
I took a shot and bought my 06 PBM A4 used at 34K miles for 15K a year and a half ago. Since then it has been an absolute money pit (rear dif rebuilt, new radiator, suspension replaced among other things) but it is honestly one of the most fun cars to drive. They're pretty rare amongst all the camaros, vettes, stangs and mopars on the road and it really turns heads when your out driving. Its no slouch stock either.
I love the beat drops at the beginning of these videos
I love my 04 GTO. One down side is everyone who knows what it is wants to race you and when you decline they do the ricer fly by. One upside is that the insurance is cheaper than a V6 Mustang or V6 Camero.
I have a 5.7l as my first car it’s a blessing and a great daily driver, I plan to throw wheels, suspension, and the 05-06 Exhaust on it then go from there to an LSA Supercharger or maybe Procharger
I bought mine new in 04 and still have it. Love the car so much! Gonna be making it into road track car hopefully in the next year or so. SLP loudmouth exhaust with long tubes sound ridiculous btw. One piece driveshaft is a must too. People at traffic lights always ask what the hell is that thing. Keeping it forever
I bought an 04 GTO 6 years ago with a 6 speed for pretty cheap and love it. It's super fun and was cheaper than a comparable Camaro or Mustang GT at the time. It's been super great. I didn't know about the fuel line or wiring harness issues though. Luckily I haven't had any issues there. Might have to check it out though.

@@FitmentIndustries OK was just checking in. Great video as always :)
The Interior is AMAZING 😍
Love my 04 Cosmos GTO!! I remember when these came out, my brother in law was a salesman at a local Pontiac Dealership and begged me to come test drive one, but I was happy with the 87 GTA I had and still do. Kicking myself for not going and driving one, would have definitely put one in my garage!! I didn't take em seriously because they looked nothing like a GTO I grew up knowing.
As a guy that was like 17 when the GTO first came back and as a 32yr old thats owned a 6.0 GTO for the past 8 years i can say, this car was always one of my top 5 dream cars. I own it, I love it. It is by no eans the "perfect" vehicle. It isnt the most powerful, its not the BEST handling car, its heavy, BUT it is still amazing. I love this car, from factory youre still getting an amazing car, its got the power, its got the "proper" handling, its got space for a family car while remaining a coupe. It being LS based means easy power mods, all in all its a great car period.
It is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever set my eyes one besides the Supra and 3000GT.
Owning a 2006 GTO is definitely something I NEED to do before I die in this life.
So you want a q60/q50
My grandpa still has his 06 GTO with only 25k miles. Loved every moment we had in it growing up.
Love this series keep em cominggg also can you guys do a So you want an infiniti M45?
I have an 04 5.7 swapped to 6.0 with 6 speed trans. Mild mods. Etc. I LOVE my car and yes the battery thing is a thing as he stated. Wheel fitment sucks. Extremely limited on options because it's such tight quarters both front and rear. I have yet to see wider than 275 on the rear and 255 on the front. Gas tank is in the trunk so you cant tub it. And the front its tight fitment as well with minimal room to go wider than 8.5 and maybe a 255 tire as it will rub the strut. That's my BIGGEST complaint. There is maybe 20 wheel options for this car. You have to roll or cut the rear fenders for bigger than stock with a decent size tire. If you plan to lower it. As well as, you have to roll the fronts for the same reason.
I don't think the 2004-2006 GTO's look dated even today. I think they look amazing. A killer sports coupe with killer power!
The issues you talk about are pretty much few and far between also. They have issues but not nearly as bad as you talk.
The only thing is they were not mass produced so you do not see them everywhere. Most that do see one, notices it, pretty much immediately. They stand out in a crowd of current cars very easily and they still turn heads.
Ive had my 05 for 3 years. Built N/A 6.0 6-spd and I daily it. It is insanely comfortable, stupid fun to drive, and oddly reliable. Just be ready to struggle for aftermarket support. Other than that it's been everything I expected and more.
With them being more and more rare, they turn heads for sure.
So you want a Cadillac Cts/ats v
(p.s. I love how your doing more domestic cars)
I used to work with someone who has a GTO, and he’s got that thing built like crazy and it’s great
Purchased one about three years ago. Had to do a lot of suspension work and changed some things like crank position sensor, fuel pump, purge solenoid, thermostat, starter solenoid and as mentioned a new battery. I love it though. Very happy with it.
Just a heads up it's a 6.0 not a 6.1
I'd still roll with a goat, I like the GTOs from the early 60's mostly but I'd take a 2k version without too much question.
And if you're jumping into my comment "Aloha" 🤙
FINALLY!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I have a 06 GTO m6 Quicksilver Metallic I bought from a friend in 2015. I've learned alot from other owners about these cars, let's just say he not getting in back!
As someone that owned (and sold) every modern “muscle car” (2012 Camaro SS, 2015 mustang GT, 2018 charger scatpack) I still miss my 06 GTO Manuel more then anything I’ve owned for some reason.
Love these cars! I own an 04’...the LS1 really isn’t bad. It did what it was supposed to do. But for me it wasn’t enough. So...the great thing about these cars is that they have many interchangeable parts with other GM vehicles. Took a 6.0 LQ4 block (Vortec motor from Chevy 2500 truck), bored it out 4.040”, dropped a 4” crank in it, and built up the top end, I was able to make a 410ci stroker motor...FUN😬 I was still able to use certain pieces from the LS1 to bolt into the new motor. Plus I didn’t have to change my wiring harness. The 04’s have an EV1 harness for the fuel injectors and the knock sensors still remain in the Vally (top of motor). The 05-06 have the knock sensors on the side of motor and the fuel injectors are EV6 plugs. This vehicle has tons of potential for many different set ups. 🏁 Burnout competition, drag racing, auto cross, drifting...or if you just want it for your daily or weekend driver. All are great options to have! Can’t go wrong with any of the above...and then there is me...🤫the one thing I’m working on...rally racing / off road 🤭 😬 so many possibilities to what ever you can imagine...
look into adding a trailblazer diff and go awd,it would be a bitch to do but would be cool as fuck

Great car with little acknowledgement. Had the M6 LS 2 but now have the M6 LS 1. The sound is truly awesome with no noticeable speed deficits. I agreed with everything you said. I believe it will become a collector car but as a specialty car currently, its the best bang for the buck.

It really does not look dated even today IMO. Everywhere I stop I get people walking up asking what it is and how great it looks!!
Especially with wheels/coilovers/no spoiler, sadly I haven't driven mine in like 4 years 😭
One of the best cars I’ve ever owned, plan to have one again one day because I really miss it.
Just acquired an 06 GTO with 51k miles on it. Put Magna flow mufflers on and K&N air filter. The exhaust note is music to my ears. Lots of torque, just what I needed in my old age to bring a smile to my face. Far cheaper then a WOMAN to play with, no games just consistent performance.

I love my 04 GTO. Trimmed the plastic on the engine cover that was rubbing the fuel line had a small gash but didn’t go all the way through and wrapped it with electric tape to reduce rubbing. 👍🏼 I have not done the wiring harness behind the glove box haven’t had much issues. Battery drain is real caused by the security system on the car but if you drive it like your supposed to it’s not a problem. Gas mileage isn’t the best but I can get 300 miles on a full tank if I don’t lead foot it often 😉😂. There is a glitch in the coolant temp gauge which only happened to me 2 times since owning it which tells you high coolant temp like it’s overheating and then goes back to normal but I always check just to be sure. Paint does sun fade easily. Front suspension known to fail so I replaced the whole front suspension. Haven’t done the rear just yet but I have the parts, BC Coilovers FTW! There is no lock/unlock button but I’m pretty sure the 05-06 got one installed. Steering controls only illuminated on the 06 model. Also the 05-06 models had the 6.0L engine not the 6.1 that Alex sounds like he is saying lol. Other than that everything on this car is cake to work on.....also replacing the rear deck speakers is quite a chore, you have to take out the back seat, and both side panels with the pillars. Currently has 86,560 miles.

I had a 2006 auto 4 speed 6.0 gto. The car has a clean almost bmw like timeless look, full leather interior and you could fit adults in the back seats much like a challenger just lighter and much better aerodynamics. The 6.0 sounded amazing, loved that car only thing that keeps me away from buying another is that cosmetic and interior parts cost an arm to buy but gotta be able to find the part first. Australia knows how to make a car.
I have owned a 67, 68, 69, and I also now own an 06 M6 that I bought new. It is not stock and currently has 41K on it. It is built for triple digit speeds and is a blast to drive. As always, more speed parts are in the future.

My 2 cents. G8. Did everything the GTO should've done, but with 4 doors, a meaner front end, less issues, and as an immensely biased previous owner of one is basically unmatched as far as big ol v8 rwd sedan/cars. And yes- much better than a charger as well. I said what I said
