Sorry other modern car enthusiasts for my extremely long comment reply to bad gto but I am very passionate about classics and feel like we should continue to recognize and take care of them because they are history and are a big part in why we still have cars and continue to keep moving forward and to keep going faster. From the start of the automobile to now there has been and continues to be sooo much innovation. Now I might hate how fucking ugly modern cars are but the technology they have is sooo bad ass and has came a very long way and I completely admire and respect the work that goes into the technical part of today's cars but not there styling. I will never forget the vehicles of yesterday that transport us to now and the vehicles of today that will be yesterday's vehicles. Please never forget the classic vehicles and the passion people have for them whether you are from those same eras or are just 18 years old and not able to get your classic dream car yet.
This GTO was only planned as a 3-year run, since the Holden Monaro (not "Morano" as this "expert" repeatedly calls it) was ending production in Australia at the same time as the end of the import agreement. It also wasn't really that dated in looks in 2004-2006, considering it was pretty similar in appearance to the current-at-the-time Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG and not terribly different from the BMW M3 that were available at the time the GTO came back to the US. Even the 2007 Audi A5 had a similar "jellybean" shape. Even the BMW M6 from 2005-2011 had the same basic shape as this GTO. But I guess it's not to be criticized if BMW does it. If this car had logo from Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Audi, etc. instead of a Pontiac arrowhead, it wouldn't have been complained about as much. The saggy suspension issue was caused from the cars being strapped down too tightly on ships during transport from Australia, which crushed the suspension bushings and strut mounts on most of them. Also, it was a 6.0 liter from 2005-2006, never advertised or claimed to be 6.1.
18 years of ownership here. Here are some tid bits I've had to deal with over the years that you didn't mention. The oem alternator is too weak for the load of the electronics with the sound system cranked up I've gone through 3 alternators, the recommended fix its to use a chevy truck alternator. Will do that when the next one dies. The suspension sag in the rear will make the 2 piece drive shaft sit at an odd angle and it will wear out the center support bearing. The front bumper edges will poke out from the sides if the front bumper is ever removed, you have to drill the inside and make your own bracket to fix/prevent this. Front headlight seal wore out too fast and condensation builds up in headlight. Seats were not sewn with long term use in mind, the stitching comes apart easily. The head liner glue wears out too soon and has to be redone. The door lock tabs break easily. The plastic pieces that cover up the seats can break easily. The Speaker mesh on the doors breaks easily. The motors inside the mirrors died too soon, i never bothered to replace those. The under hood liner sags and will melt onto your strut tower bar, I painted my bar twice then figured out why it kept getting discolored lol. Power steering hose clamps are weak and leak eventually. need to replace those. Lots of tiny details but the motor has been SOLID. Would not recommend paying full price like I did, but it has lasted me almost 20 years now and has been worth it to me as far as cost to longevity. But buying one used somewhere under $15k would be perfect.
@@trashbandit2449 Lowering it might actually fix the angle a little bit. But the wear isn't on the driveshaft itself, the wear is on the center support bearing rubber and the rubber flex disc.
Best bang-for-the-buck in a car with over 400hp that I ever bought. I dont see my car every 2miles like the Camaro, Charger, Mustang. Next pick G8 or SS.
I agree, you dont see those every where. I wanted the last body style Gto but couldn't find a decent priced one. Then they came out with the G8 and i got one of those. Had it 10 years now, with 200k miles on it, it still runs like new. I ended up getting a SS later but still wished i could've gotten a GTO.
I mean you could say that about the Corvette too, but we all know which one we would rather own. I only say that because of the price similarity between a manual 6.0 vette and a manual 6.0 gto and the gto isn't the best looking.
I owned a 2004 Torrid Red GTO, pretty much bone stock other than Exhaust, headers & tune and it was a super fun vehicle, picked it up for $8500 with 96k original miles, it did have its typical Pontiac problems, the trunk latch was completely destroyed so access to the trunk was impossible, even pulling the release cable didn’t work lol. Windows rolled down super slow, and the fuel door loved making pools when it rain, but overall it was a great car, I got fantastic gas mileage out of it (believe it or not).. the GTO is a super underrated car - once I got rid of it I knew I fucked up so I used the money from my 04’ and got a 06’ GTO that I just finished working on it, bigger cam & heads, and it’s a straight monster. I will 10/10 recommend getting one if you’re looking for something to kill Mustangs & Camaros without going bankrupt.

I'm the only one that thought him referring to the 6.0 as a 6.1 annoying? The GTO was born from Pontiac putting a 389ci engine in the midsize tempest. GM had a ban on engine 400ci and larger going into anything smaller than a full size car or truck. Pontiac initially wanted GTO judge to directly compete against the Plymouth roadrunner, which was a bare bones bargain muscle car. But by the higher ups getting involved, the car was optioned out with luxury items. Making it the most expensive GTO! The only real information I got from this video was grand tempest option and even that I'm questioning.
Ok so a few things from an owner 1) the sag is from front struts mounts. You need to replace these anyways. Stock struts and shocks are actually pretty good. 2) Fuel line does touch the passenger engine cover. You trim it and that's that. Cover the fuel line with some tape and ur good. 3) the difference between the 04 and 05 to 06 is more than just an engine. It's a change from a gen 3 to gen 4 (or 3.5 depending on how u look at it.) It's a different computer setup and fly by wire as opposed to cable driven. 4) the glove box was originally on the opposite side. You are fine with the stock harness. Just don't yank on it. 5) the tires are cheaper than most. Same size as mustangs and other muscle cars.

The only issues with an aging GTO is the ignition will lock up, GM came up with a replacement part that is hardened steel. The oil pickup is also in front of the motor so it can oil starve when doing launches.

I love my 04 GTO. One down side is everyone who knows what it is wants to race you and when you decline they do the ricer fly by. One upside is that the insurance is cheaper than a V6 Mustang or V6 Camero.
I just hope they get decent real world mpg, I don't see gas going down. I think we need to stop driving, and just drive cars on the track. Take the bus and train 🤓
I still regret selling my 04 6spd. Without a hood scoop it made for a pretty good sleeper. Awesome road trip car, set cruise at 90 and that car would basically idle down the road at almost 30mpg.
I've had my 05 GTO for five years now. She's up to 141k miles and after buying a new driveshaft (the rubber in the carrier bearing of the original just got old and fell apart) she's running strong. I still smile every time I start her up and feel that LS shaking my shifter
What kind of driveshaft did you go with ? If you went with a 1 piece do you get vibrations? I’m in the same situation I’m looking at driveshafts as we speak lol
True story: I worked at a pontiac/buick/gmc dealership when the 6.0 came out. I was a shop helper, and one of the techs asked me to take a GTO out and "knock the rust off the brakes" for him. I did this as directed, and finished with a quick rip onto and off of the interstate. When i got back to the shop, the shop foreman walked up to me and said "Chris (the dealership owner) says you're not allowed to drive the GTO's anymore." Apparently a friend of the owner saw me ripping 120 on the interstate with dealership stickers still on the car and called me in. RIP (i still want one of these)
It is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever set my eyes one besides the Supra and 3000GT. Owning a 2006 GTO is definitely something I NEED to do before I die in this life.
I drove onr off the lot brand new in 2005. I loved that car. LS2 BLACK w/ red leather interior. I drove it for 9 years. It saved my life one rainy morning when i got T boned by a school bus on the drivers side. R.I.P MISS NINA 🙏.
I bought a 2004 GTO in November and I am in love with it. Highly recommend picking one up if you want a quick, fun, bald eagle-powered car. They really aren’t as troublesome as everyone makes them out to be and other owners can confirm this. The 04 has an “LS1” but it’s an LS6 block and intake with an LS1 cam and heads. And the 05-06 has a 6.0 LS2, not whatever 6.1 this guy is talking about. 🤷🏼♂️
Anyone catch the Holden "Morano" and 6.1 liter twice? Haha just busting balls but I loved my 04 GTO. Had a cammed stalled auto that went 11.90s around 114 mph. Paid 14k for it with only 41k miles. One of the best days of my life. Like others said anyone who wants to get a fast comfortable reliable car that doesn't break the bank this is it. Also can drive all day long without seeing another unicorn on the street.
I have a 5.7l as my first car it’s a blessing and a great daily driver, I plan to throw wheels, suspension, and the 05-06 Exhaust on it then go from there to an LSA Supercharger or maybe Procharger
Ok pretty good bit to unpack here, I own an 04 LS1 so lemme go over some things. First the 04 came with a 5.7 LS1 (350hp) the 05-06 came with a 6.0 LS2 (400hp) First things to check on the car suspension mainly bushings, if they are still on the stock rubber ones spend some time to change them out to poly's . Next there isn't a stock offering to adjust the rear camber, you'll have to buy an adjuster for the out control arm. Unless you catch a deal, coilovers run around the same price and drop spring and shocks. This car runs extremely high offsets in the rear. making it fairly difficult to find great staggered setup with little body involved You can get away common offsets in the front range from +35-45 on an 8.5 wheel running a 235 tire. In the rear most run a +45 on a 9.5" in. wheel running 265 or 270's with mild fender trimming. There are some outliers that have managed up to a 265 squared tire setup but if you aren't doing any road racing it more trouble than it's worth. Never experienced the fuel line problem mention and I've owned my car since 07 and have put 140K miles on it since then. Also take car of your headlights, they are starting get harder and more expensive to locate and the only aftermarket option are from Spyder. If you plan run dumped or aired out if may be more beneficial to run shorty headers and midpipes vs long tubes. Most longtubes available once installed will up being the lowest point of you car , with shorties they stay tucked up where the factory exhaust was. I'll submit my GTO to the Gallery once I get it detailed.
Bought mine new in '05. About the headlights. OEM's are over $700 a piece now so I got the Spyders. They look good and the lamps that came with them burnt in little time, what else is wrong with the Spyder lights?
Had mine for 6 years, I've parted out more gtos than most people have owned cars. Only thing I would add is to make sure to check the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. Other than that just regular checks like you should be doing on any other car. Mines been a reliable tank of a car really.
Just acquired an 06 GTO with 51k miles on it. Put Magna flow mufflers on and K&N air filter. The exhaust note is music to my ears. Lots of torque, just what I needed in my old age to bring a smile to my face. Far cheaper then a WOMAN to play with, no games just consistent performance.
I love my 05’ gto, it’s been the most reliable car in the family and is super fun to drive, also sounds really good! I haven’t had too much issues with sagging or any with wiring stuff. Windows are not the same speed and the locking mechanism is set to do the security lock so it’s super loud. Battery drain is a somewhat issue however, as long as I can jump it on those days it’s not a problem. All in all a beautiful reliable fun car!
No I already have one. And yeah more like a ticket after 24 hours of ownership. Love my GTO. BTW seen your boy at cruise 2.0 this last Saturday in Eau Claire. He had that blue BRZ
A few days ago my dumb ass gunned it in front of a cop but I onky got up to 40 before I saw him...vop didn't car or even notice cause I'm driving a v6 camry that's not loud...if I was in a gto I definitely woulfve gotten pulled over cause 40 wouldve been like 60 and he wouldve heard me 🤣🤣
I had an '06 Brazen Orange GTO and it RIPPED with just bolt-ons and a cam. A few hundred $ and it was putting down 500hp and ripping tires loose with a stab of the throttle on the highway. For$30k new out the door, what's not to love?
I don't think the 2004-2006 GTO's look dated even today. I think they look amazing. A killer sports coupe with killer power! The issues you talk about are pretty much few and far between also. They have issues but not nearly as bad as you talk. The only thing is they were not mass produced so you do not see them everywhere. Most that do see one, notices it, pretty much immediately. They stand out in a crowd of current cars very easily and they still turn heads.
I have an 04 5.7 swapped to 6.0 with 6 speed trans. Mild mods. Etc. I LOVE my car and yes the battery thing is a thing as he stated. Wheel fitment sucks. Extremely limited on options because it's such tight quarters both front and rear. I have yet to see wider than 275 on the rear and 255 on the front. Gas tank is in the trunk so you cant tub it. And the front its tight fitment as well with minimal room to go wider than 8.5 and maybe a 255 tire as it will rub the strut. That's my BIGGEST complaint. There is maybe 20 wheel options for this car. You have to roll or cut the rear fenders for bigger than stock with a decent size tire. If you plan to lower it. As well as, you have to roll the fronts for the same reason.
Love these cars! I own an 04’...the LS1 really isn’t bad. It did what it was supposed to do. But for me it wasn’t enough. So...the great thing about these cars is that they have many interchangeable parts with other GM vehicles. Took a 6.0 LQ4 block (Vortec motor from Chevy 2500 truck), bored it out 4.040”, dropped a 4” crank in it, and built up the top end, I was able to make a 410ci stroker motor...FUN😬 I was still able to use certain pieces from the LS1 to bolt into the new motor. Plus I didn’t have to change my wiring harness. The 04’s have an EV1 harness for the fuel injectors and the knock sensors still remain in the Vally (top of motor). The 05-06 have the knock sensors on the side of motor and the fuel injectors are EV6 plugs. This vehicle has tons of potential for many different set ups. 🏁 Burnout competition, drag racing, auto cross, drifting...or if you just want it for your daily or weekend driver. All are great options to have! Can’t go wrong with any of the above...and then there is me...🤫the one thing I’m working on...rally racing / off road 🤭 😬 so many possibilities to what ever you can imagine...
Got the 04 GTO back in 2010 as my first car with only 33k miles on it. Other than blowing tires and dead batteries it has run like a champ the entire time. I am still driving it to work as my daily and it now has 131K miles on it. It's still great to feel all the power since day one.
I'd still roll with a goat, I like the GTOs from the early 60's mostly but I'd take a 2k version without too much question. And if you're jumping into my comment "Aloha" 🤙
IAsqitI its based on the swift. Geo was GM’s rebadge job to meet emission laws. I had a 1992 metro with the cultus awd and built a 2.0!turbo stoker from a 1.8 suzuki block

3. They don't sag because of weight, they sag because of the way they are strapped down in shipping.
4. The only issues with an aging GTO is the ignition will lock up, GM came up with a replacement part that is hardened steel. The oil pickup is also in front of the motor so it can oil starve when doing launches.
Ya tht was rough to watch
What is the replacement part?
thank you
NO WAY IM WATCHING THIS VIDEO AFTER IT WAS POSTED EXACTLY 2 YEARS AGO
Great car . Had my 06 for for 10 years , never let me down, no problems, replaced 1 battery, and one set of tires, thats it . Best bang for buck . Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it which isn't much. Hasn't done 60,000 km yet .
I've had two of these cars. 04 & 06, what an era!
Everyone hates on them. I love them. Very much.
Everyone loves them here in Australia
@@IamRoBohhhjkl absolutely love mine. Best built GM car!
I was torn between this and a firebird and I ultimately chose the firebird due to the superior weight distribution. Still love the GTO though.
@@GoldenGrenadier I traded a 2001 WS6 in on my gto. It was an automatic. Good running car. Still miss it. But the gto was my dream car. Both fantastic bargins!
@@GoldenGrenadier I've owned both. Had an ls1 Trans Am and I have a ls2 GTO now. Both great cars.
*Trans am*
-more planted feel
- better cornering
-more curb appeal
- low slung sports car feel
-more customizable exterior
*GTO*
-more power
-comfy back seat
-less attention from cops
-nicer/newer interior feel
-easier to work on.
yes i do i do want a gto
I was literally looking at these last night 😂😂😂

Buy one you won't regret it

Big change from an ep3 si lol

On Saudi Arabia it’s called a Chevy Lumina SS and it’s one of the most popular cars on Saudi Arabia for drag races and even drifting
MPG's on these are a little sus.. 😅😅😅 -Edgar

As an Australian. I own myself 1 of 1600 limited edition Monaros These are beautiful cars!

I still regret selling my 04 6spd. Without a hood scoop it made for a pretty good sleeper. Awesome road trip car, set cruise at 90 and that car would basically idle down the road at almost 30mpg.
The gto is one of my favorite cars of all time
I've had my 05 GTO for five years now.
@@marquisquintana5304 I had a shop make me a two piece shaft. Sorry, can't help with the one piece questions

Chevy Monte Carlo!!!
It really does not look dated even today IMO. Everywhere I stop I get people walking up asking what it is and how great it looks!!
Especially with wheels/coilovers/no spoiler, sadly I haven't driven mine in like 4 years 😭
True story: I worked at a pontiac/buick/gmc dealership when the 6.0 came out.
Holden made it Pontiac stole the entire car but slapped there badge in it
I drove onr off the lot brand new in 2005. I loved that car. LS2 BLACK w/ red leather interior. I drove it for 9 years. It saved my life one rainy morning when i got T boned by a school bus on the drivers side. R.I.P MISS NINA 🙏.

Own a 2006 GTO that I got in 2019.
Right now only has 83K miles on it. Great first manual and first v8
The Interior is AMAZING 😍
I got an 04. It had 11K on it. It's now past 207K. Standard shift. I call it The Silver Bullet. I love my car.

I uses to be so confused when Carbon would call the GTO the Holden Monaro lol
I miss Pontiac. 😢
Used to have an 04 GTO with the license plate GOATSE, it was a prized possession of mine.
I've wanted a GTO since I started driving at 16. I'm 22 now and I still want one.
One of my neighbors had one, slapped a SLP loudmouth exhaust on it, beautiful. He got told a lot that it sounded like a Ferrari lol
10:25 funny thing is I actually notice Pontiac gtos and take a couple seconds to check them out when I see one.
I have a 5.7l as my first car it’s a blessing and a great daily driver, I plan to throw wheels, suspension, and the 05-06 Exhaust on it then go from there to an LSA Supercharger or maybe Procharger
I have a Barbados blue 04 m6 78k miles on the clock. I drive it once a week to work.
The LS2 is a 6.0 not a 6.1
Be nice..
I was hesitantly watching and then that comment was made. He lost me completely lol
Love my 06 GTO
Ok pretty good bit to unpack here, I own an 04 LS1 so lemme go over some things.
First the 04 came with a 5.7 LS1 (350hp) the 05-06 came with a 6.0 LS2 (400hp)
First things to check on the car suspension mainly bushings, if they are still on the stock rubber ones spend some time to change them out to poly's .
I'll submit my GTO to the Gallery once I get it detailed.
i thought it was weird he kept saying 6.1, my shit has a 6.0 badge lol
Bought mine new in '05. About the headlights. OEM's are over $700 a piece now so I got the Spyders. They look good and the lamps that came with them burnt in little time, what else is wrong with the Spyder lights?
Hit him with the truth 🙌🏾
Thanks for the info. Currently at 8,000 for the gto fund.

SO YOU WANT A COBALT SS ASAP, A underrated 4cyl
MW starter car
No it's a 4.1 cylinder
Found one for $4k but it was too ricey for me (the way the owner modified it)
Always been a huge fan of the 04 the 06 Pontiac GTO and older of course
I always notice a GTO. This guy at the local college branch had a nice orange one

@@TylerVogel I disagree.
Skip to 7:00 to avoid totally pointless time wasting word vomit...
Yes... the Aussie HSV Monaro. You're welcome USA.
I've literally be saying that I want one of these, but I didn't know they lit themselves on fire...
Don't fret, fuel line takes literally 5 minutes to swap or you could just keep the covers off the car
@@jaredtami6738 yeah looks better without the covers anyway big beautiful LS.
I love it when Australians say aluminum.
Can’t go wrong with any of the above...and then there is me...🤫the one thing I’m working on...rally racing / off road 🤭 😬 so many possibilities to what ever you can imagine...
look into adding a trailblazer diff and go awd,it would be a bitch to do but would be cool as fuck
