What I will say is that although Casey did deliver a massive quantity of videos, he was also able to somehow deliver quality. On a daily basis no less. Very thought provoking video 🤙
true! quality is difficult though because it's so subjective. if you asked 16 year old me if a mr. beast video was high quality, i would've said hell no. but now i can appreciate it a bit more, even though i'm not the target audience. i'm actually not good at understanding what people want to watch, so i can make a video that i believe is super high quality, and miss the mark completely. quality is kind of up to the audience, and if you don't understand the audience (like me) you can only really hope to make videos you like, and hope to pick up nuggets of what youtube wants along the way
16 year old you would probably say yes as you view quality as the content not the production values. If you like the content you'll say it's quality even if the prod val is poor.
The quality for this channel is really good and then I realized you already had a successful channel before so congrats on that bro! But I agree 100% on this. I'm seeing new channels pop up with great ideas + execution. Plus it feels better putting in higher effort content.
Interesting take. One aspect that also plays a huge part in this is catalog size. The more videos you have online the more people can engage with you and learn who you are and what style you have. And recently I get the feeling we are moving towards more casual videos that are less produced - this could just be my bubble tho ..
Well that goes back to the original point of quantity but that's been shown not to be the case. I've seen dead channels grow in subs simply because their videos are so good.
i did daily videos for 18 months but i got so tired. so after sleeping for 3 months I just started focusing on quality. and creating more interaction with the audience
Great video bro! I agree 100% Also very interesting how Ryan Trahan managed to do both quality & quantity with his 30 penny series. That might be a meta in the upcoming years. Quality seasonal series
Something else that could’ve been mentioned is the rise of shorts/reels/Tiktok. I think that’s what has largely led to this change. People don’t want to sit through ads or spend their attention on low quality videos because they can just watch short form content to get their fix.
But by your logic are you saying Tik Tok, Reels, Shorts, etc. is quality? I don’t agree. I think that’s quantity. Short form content accommodates the shorter attention spans of users today.
@@AndrewCortesi I think what he is saying is that you get your "drug-like" fix, that excitement, and dopamine mix from short reels. You don't really watch them to learn something or derive pleasure from artistic endeavour. So with this "addict" need already taken care of by short reels, the long ones are left to find another niche, like high quality more educational content. At least it's the case with me, anyway.
I think this video is 100% true. UA-cam has gotten extremely competitive. Everyone wants to be a youtuber & there’s a low barier for entry. Anyone with a smart phone can be a youtuber. So in order to blow up you really gotta stand out with top tier quality. I’ve been analyzing my own niche & the channels that are blowing up recently are the ones with top tier quality. Channels that simply upload a high volume of mediocre content stay small channels. The point is quality > quantity in 2023.
Great video! Over a year ago I took a month off because of burnout. I came back with the quality content mindset. The key to a successful creator is to keep evolving. If you become bored so will your audience
Great video! I agree that the quality is a lot more important than it used to be but I feel that if you're a new creator starting from zero there's an uphill battle in getting subscribers and the algorithm to pick up your videos so some level of quantity is still needed. When Mr beast started he was literally uploading almost everyday and built a decent following and that following was able to help push his high quality videos with views and watch time. But I don't know I haven't started my channel yet lol
I also have to kind of disagree to a certain extent. What the Mr Beast team is doing is mostly spectacle. Amazing spectacle indeed, but - most of the times - there's no storytelling whatsoever. Which works very well with the audience they planned to reach (12-18 mostly) What made Casey blow out on youtube is that he was employing traditional storytelling principles to present an entertaining version of his daily life. mostly by himself, to a different demographic. bottom line: there is quality in casey and there is quantity in mr beast too (look at his react channels and the channels in other languages)
It really depends on your audience and the value you give. You don't need a month of planning, cinematic story telling, over the top dramatic thumbnails ... You just need to give value around a core audience and then time to grow.
M most creators are finding that they get more return on a quality video uploaded monthly than an okay video uploaded weekly which is that this guy is saying
@@TheFakeyCakeMaker i understand what hes saying, but it also doesnt mean you get rewarded for your hard work. YT doesnt reward for hard work. They reward based on what the audiance wants. 20 hours to film and edit one video doesnt mean it wil out perform a video that took 30 minutes. Often times it can be the other way around. Its about the value the creator gives, the audience retention and ingagement in the content that matters. The term quality is very subjective.
What? I am old enough to remember the 90s. UA-cam was way better, with straight to the point content, now is just shorts, podcasts and smash that like button. It really feels like a dystopic 80s science fiction telemarketing channel than quality content
Me Beast said in many podcasts. If you are starting now you should just focus on improving. He said to make a 100 videos and improve in each somehow. Quality will come with experience. If you are new to UA-cam and want to make sure your quality is on level with established creators your frequency of uploads will be probably less than optimal for UA-cam to pick it up.
The production value on this video looks like it can and will surpass many larger channels. Only improvement I would offer is that you seem to run out of breath when reading from your script sometimes. Wishing you all the best man.
Casey's angle of view is also different. From the angle of a filmmaker, he suggests not to obsess over the quality of a video in terms of how the video looks, but quality in terms of what it actually talks about. Besides that, he intended to highlight the idea of practice making you perfect. Do not wait for inspiration, but rather keep making whatever you can, so that the amalgamation of of th variety of outputs from you overtime can result in something good. But yeah, he also does press on the idea of discoverability. Casey, by the time he started blogging, already had around 300k subs, if I'm not wrong.
The journey of every creator is quite fascinating especially someone who has grown to be as big as Jimmy, great deep dive and looking forward to the skate vids
I would rather watch one good quality vlog, than ten mediocre ones, so if the algorithm is working the same, quality vlogs are going to push through. Caseys vlogs always seem to flow effortlessly, masking the huge amount of effort that has gone into it. That's quality!
This makes me feel better that I can take more time on my videos to produce content that I actually want to share with people, and is genuinely engaging and valuable!
