5th Gen Toyota 4Runner 33" Tires - What's Needed for No Rub!

- In this video, we demonstrate what it takes to clear 33" tires, which are commonly used as 285/70/17. You will need at least a two-and-a-half-inch lift and a body mount chop to clear these sizes of tires.
The 4Runner shown in this video is running Method Race wheels with a 0 offset and Falken Wildpeak AT3 tires. This is the perfect offset to run to have the least amount of clearance issues. - Авто та транспорт
I stayed with my stock TRD Pro wheels (+4 offset), stayed below 3" in lift and I didn't need a BMC to fit my 33" tires. I opted for the non-testosterone look. I went with pizza cutters. Falken Wildpeak 255/80-17 A/T3W. No rub. No scrub. No slipping on spots where the wide boyz slip. A lot less dirt, rocks and junk get thrown up on to the sides of my 4Runner. Life is good.
I just upgraded my 2012 FJ TTSE from BF Goodrich 31” KO2s to 33” Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws and love the feel and grip! Great decision so far!
Just installed 255/80 R17’s Toyo AT3’s on my Trd Pro. Fit perfectly… didn’t have to change a thing and they’re a true 33. Zero rub with factory setup.
Yeah but they’re hideous
YEP THEY WORK AND EASY
To me it looks like you didn't need to chop the body mount? Maybe do a viper cut at the bumper but I believe 0 offset should be the answer to running a 285?
Can you fit 33s on a stock 5th gen SR5 with just a 2” leveling kit?
Will 275 fit on stock suspension (w/ front leveled of course) ?
Not sure what the big deal with this topic is. I ran a Toytec Aluma Series 2.5” lift, SPC upper control arms, Method 305’s with zero offset and 285/70-17 Goodyear DuraTrac’s with no rubbing, no cutting, no alignment issues. I chose this route because my local dealer at the time, Larry Miller Toyota in Colorado Springs, installs the exact same setup with zero issues.
I think the deal is... a lot of people want to run lower offset wheels that look better. Like -10, -12, -17, -20, -38, etc.
I’m running Baja Boss’s in 285’s. All I did was remove the mudflaps. Stock snowflake rims too. No rub. I have 6112’s set at 2.25 inch lift.
You will if you rock crawl
@@Bananahammock88 don’t plan to rock crawl. I live in the desert so a lot of sugar sand, washboard roads and mud.
how much would this cost for my 21 4runner limited?
Damn that's a lot of cutting for some slightly larger than stock tires lol! I'm running 285s on -10 wheels at 2.5" of lift and all I did was remove the mud flaps and shave the front bumper!
Amen, if I did all that cutting I’m going bigger than 285s for sure.
What tire??
I'm running -10 wheels with 285/17, 2" lift and needed a body mount chop, remove mud flaps, and cut front bumper/liner a bit. You won't rub the body mount if all you do is drive on the road/highway. But as soon as you get even a tiny bit of articulation, you will rub it.
I got wildpeak AT3W 285/70/17 on my 20 4runner and all I did was remove the mud flaps and shave a little bit of the front wheel well and they don't rub. Do you recommend to do the chop as well?
Only chop if youre rubbing or plan on going bigger in the future. No point in wasting money.
Do you have a lift?
@@cassiewinfrey738 Yeah I forgot to mention I have the Westcott Preload Collar Lift Kit installed
I think the bro crowds getting into the 4Runner scene “form over function” it’s been proven Soo many times over and over again 255 skinnier tires fit without mods and actually skinnier tires work better in every aspect, more traction longer footprint especially lowered psi and actual better rolling resistance better mpg, people just be in ball rubbing bros to get the wider tires
Got it, just stick with stock tire size 😅
Running 305-70-16's...no cutting.
Dont call the Falkens "snow tires". They do amazing in the snow for an ALL TERRAIN, but are not dedicated snow tires.
100%. While they are considered one of the best AT tires in the snow, tests have shown they stop roughly 30% longer than a snow tire in snowy conditions.
