Stereotypes About Americans - What Russians Think?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 сер 2019
- Let's see what Russians think about American and if they still fall for stereotypes about Americans. Street interviews is the best way to do this. Kyle is at it again! Kyle's Instangram:
/ kmccarthy1988
Bro the citizens in both country’s have no problem with each other it’s just the governments that have problems with each other
No, the Russian government has a problem with everyone. Get it straight. When Yeltsin was in office, we got along fine.
Amen!
@Nick Miller you sir are an idiot. Are you seriously saying all democrats hate Russia? So does that mean all republicans hate Muslims? Maybe you are the one that has the real hate. Maybe step away from the politics and actually look at the big picture. The government isn't your friend. Left or right.
Good statement. I've met a few Russians in my life and they seemed friendly and modest.
Yes
“All people are the same. There are always good ones and bad ones.” Smartest thing I have heard in a while.
LOL except not all people are the same. thats the one and the many fallacy. typical arrogance of ignorance.
We are all good and bad. It's the control over our bad side that makes us good.
All people are not the same. That is one of the great lies of this generation
Thomas B, Well I guess I took the phrase differently. I saw it as saying that all people are the same in that we all have good and bad drives, and what we choose to follow is what makes us different, as do other things. We are not all the same under a microscope, we all have different drives and focuses, different ways of feeling emotions and dealing with things, but from afar we are not as different as some believe. That’s what I think anyway.
Philiecheesesteak •_• we are very different. If biology is all we have in common we’re in trouble
I've only had one encounter with a Russian person. I was in Vegas, and a very drunk young man came up to me asking "where New York was", in broken English, and sounding more than a little rude. I figured out he meant the hotel New York, New York, and gave him directions. The next day outside of the MGM, I was tapped on the shoulder...I tuned around and it was the same young man (this time not drunk), and he acted like I was his oldest friend in the world and he was happy to see me. I must have talked with him about 15 minutes before moving on, and it dawned on me the guy wasn't actually rude before, it was just a lack of language skills and maybe a bit of culture difference thrown in. He was actually a pretty cool person.
Generally in my experience grammar is the key thing in language, because what is normal I one language may seem rude or offensive in another
This is a typical scenario when Americans talk to people from different countries, they judge people with their own standard even when they are not in the US, lol
@@PinkChineseChives Everyone country does that. There's always things that some countries perceive as okay that others will see as rude.
That’s crazy. That is a great story. Hang on to that.
I have met many Russian tourists, a few of them the guests of their Russian-American relatives. They tend to be shy, overly friendly but sometimes not speaking any English. They are anxious to meet any Americans who are friendly to them, and helpful. This means, I have have good experiences with young, beautiful women who did not care about my age .... I am 78. As for Russian immigrants (legal residents or obtaining citizenship) they are less friendly because they like to retreat into their 'nostalgic Russian never never land' by clubbing up, only with one another. Especially the ones who are my age, who grew up under Khrushchev, Brezhnev and others. And so what? I do not need their friendship. The young people, born after 1980 are more interesting, having grown up with Yeltsin.
Russia compliments us better than Europe, odd.
@gothicancientalien same
Russia is in Europe, odd.
@@thisguy976 yeah but its mostly in Asia
@gothicancientalien Russia is divided between Europe and Asia, correct. And it is true that most of Russia's surface area is in Asia (13. 12 million squared kilometres), (European Russia having 3.995 million squared kilometres)......
HOWEVER, that's where Asia having more ends. European Russia has over 75% of the population of Russia (112 million people) versus only 34 million in Asian Russia. The administrative and economic capitals of Russia are in European Russia, the 10 largest cities are in European Russia. The 3 largest ports are in European Russia. The vast majority of Russia's farmland is in Russia, most of Russia's roads and railways.. And airports are in European Russia. In fact, Russia (the country and empire) began in Europe (not Asia). Russian culture is European (not Asian). Russia was names by the vikings (it was called Rus). The first major settlements in Russia were created by the vikings and developed and improved by the slavic people (both European peoples). The only major cities in Asian Russia (called siberia btw) were founded and built by European Russians. The Russian national anthem was composed by a European Russian. The Russian flag was adopted from the Dutch National flag (a European country). The president of Russia is from European Russia (St. Petersburg). Russia borders more European countries than Asian countries (8 v 6). Russia is considered by the vast majority of the world to be a predominantly European and NOT Asian country.
So, you that is a Russian living in the US. Tell me how you "know more" about Russia because it appears to me that you know little to nothing about Russia, Russian economics, Russian culture, Russian history etc. Tell me how "I need to learn geography" when in reality I am an expert in geography. You in fact need to learn geography and also a lot more as well. It's shameful how little you know about Russia, a country you allegedly descend from. As far as I can see, you're merely an American attempting to 'stay in touch' with other cultures. Oh and btw, I have been to Russia more than once so don't come at me with any visiting nonsense.
(edit) don't take what i say too harshly, use it and learn it to improve your knowledge of Russia and not make the same mistake again.
@@Matthew-qx3dh The same applies to you.
Wow...I think this was the most positive "Stereotypes about Americans" video that I've ever seen on UA-cam. Thanks, Russia!
@Chocolate Sheep Oh, believe me, Russians are not fake and hypocrites like most Americans, with their stupid fake smiles. If Russian mean to tell you something bad, he will, without caring how you gonna feel. For them everything is about the truth and honesty.

Okay, maybe I was a little bit edgy, but you have to try to be more objective and when somebody offence people from other country, to defence them in the same way you defence your own people.

@@jangozubr Many of us older guys grew up with the constant fear that both countries would blow each other up. Only since the downfall of the USSR and open communications, have the people of Russia and the US decided that, guess what??? We are all the same. That is, all but the governments and politicians.
@Bill McKenna And the U.S. isn't? Think about it. Consider that the Russian Governments (specifically the Soviet Union) were pretty scary - at least that is what we were told, right? And, the U.S. Government does not have a particularly glowing record either. Which government has killed more people since the downfall of the USSR? How many military bases does Russia have in other countries? How many does the U.S. have? You can ponder on that for a while. But, regardless, my original point was that I speak specifically of the people of Russia not their government.
@William McKenna You didn't read my comment. I specifically commented post USSR. You did know that Stalin was Soviet right? The U.S. has done more to Russian than you can imagine, just not on the battlefield. Define "backward" and how it is relevant to anything? And again, I was also specific about governments being the problem, not the people.

I basically love almost all types of biome ecosystems, and the people who inhabits within those areas, especially the ones who lives within extreme cold/hot areas of the world. I'd like to visit Yakutsk one day because it's the coldest city in the world that I know of, or Norberisk or Omaykon cities (I'm sorry if I've spelled those cities incorrectly). Even as an American (USA), I really don't watch the news other than like the weather and try to not watch the news as the western media portrays Russia and makes us wanting to hate each other, but really it's about the politics between the 2 or so countries. But that doesn't change anything about me still wanting to learn the Russian language, and one day visit Russia. :)

We Russians and Americans have common values-Fatherland, Faith and Family! What is now being passed off as American values are not such, since the American people were seduced by Marxists from the Frankfurt school. And until the end of the 1960s, Americans were one of the most family-oriented, hardworking and patriotic peoples! This is especially vividly demonstrated in the paintings of the great American Norman Rockwell! So I'm for the wedding of America and Russia!)
Seems like much more positive responses than from Western Europeans (who REALLY despise us.) The more I hear and see Russians the more I like them and wish to visit there someday.

That's cause Russian people aren't jealous of us. US and the UK have always been at arms over who is better than the other. (so to speak)

6:30 dude here is a stereotype: Americans think America is their country when in fact is a continent with dozens of countries, people from these countries are american, not european or african per say. But people from the US couldn't find a good name to name their nationality and they say the other countries in America aren't real americans.
Wrong. “North America” is a continent. “South America” is a continent. America, alone, is NOT a continent. “The Americas” is a name that includes both the North and South America. America is another nickname for USA, United States of AMERICA with AMERICAN citizens. It’s pretty yet dumb that all of you outsiders try to educate us about our own country’s name.
Literally the name came from spaniards when they colonized the Americas.
My stereotypes about America: McDonald's, beautiful songs, American football.
I am truly impressed by these folks! They are awesomely openminded!

The one piece of advice I would give to any Russians thinking of visiting the United States is to find a state with only one big city and visit a mid sized city or town. You will get a much better idea of what the average American looks like, believes, and how they live. L.A, San Francisco, or New York may as well be different countries because of how radically different they are from the average American. Like with most of the world, the lens through which Russians perceive America is largely a product of Hollywood and entirely unrepresentative of the average Joe.
I would tell them to visit a gun friendly state so they know what freedom feels like
This x1000.
I’m American. It’s not that different and certainly not like a different country. Way exaggerating. Any one of those large cities you don’t have to drive all that far to not be in a large city anymore.
@@amoore2165 there is a difference. Big cities like New York you see alot of vandalism and crime taken place. Small cities in the country side tend to stay clean and safe. You meet real Americans that work hard and stay out of trouble
Super Saiyan God: don’t even know what to say that. I’ve spent a lot of time in both. I never felt at all unsafe in LA, NY, San Fran or even in downtown Detroit which is 20 minutes from my house...some of the neighborhoods of Detroit I’d avoid. My longtime hobby is motocross which has me in the country a lot. I live in the suburbs and spent some years living in the middle of Missouri. And some other years leaving near Monterey, CA. At none of those did I feel like I was in a different country or unsafe. And all of the big cities you can take a short drive and basically be out in the country or in mid-size cities.
I feel like you haven’t been around a lot and are buying in to your own stereotypes...but who knows maybe you just have different experiences and you were mugged or something. I spent 6 months in Egypt, a few weeks in Korea, a few weeks in Panama, a few weeks in Puerto Rico, a little time in Mexico...now those feel like different countries. And some time in Israel and of course Canada but those both feel like you’re still in the United States (except some of the old architecture in Israel).

Maybe the Russian don’t smile as much as we do, but when they do they are beautiful people 🙋🏻♂️
Thank You for going out to the public on days like that. It gives me hope that people of around the world will start appreciating each other and their culture. Not everyone thinks the same. But at least we know with your videos how people think and it seems like they're beginning to learn that not all Americans are what they thought we were. It's cool to hear them express themselves. Thank You again.
What a heartwarming video. I love the Russian people.
Wow, I really enjoyed watching this. Most people in this world are good , it's the governments that are bad.
Karl Schutz I’m glad my country doesn’t have a black face supporting sjw controlling it, good luck to Canada from Vermont.
@@mansfield360 From Vermont. The irony.
@@mansfield360 But we did have an anti-white racist president Obama in office for a while though.
@@pep590 Did you just say Obama was racist?
@@pashedmota8oes756 You're kidding right? Got to hand it to the media. They hide so much to the average uniformed viewer or voter. You must make it into the 1000's who are in the dark about Obama and of what many of us think as common knowledge. Yes, Obama is well known for his division among black and white Americans. His racist comment that violent Trayvon could have been his son, while tensions were already so high. With the 100's of white Americans killed by blacks, imagine GW Bush picking out a white young man and saying that the white person killed by a black could have been his son. Obama sat in the Racist church of Jeremiah Wright for over 20 years and then denied that he heard any of the Hate speech by Wright. Obama in the early 2000's had his picture taken with Racist Louis Farrakhan. Have you heard of either of those two? When a black friend of Obama's named Gates had locked himself out of his house and was trying to gain entrance through a window, a neighbor saw it and called the cops. Gates in typical fashion gave the cops a hard time and refused to cooperate. He was initially arrested and Obama stated publicly that the white cops acted stupidly. He backtracked later on those commenst, once he knew the whole story. At a college graduation speech, instead of Obama telling the young graduates to work hard and good luck, instead he went on a rant the black graduates with black sounding names are not called for job interviews and that black males get a much longer sentence than white males for the same crime. Both are racial lies as there are 100's of 1000's of black employed everywhere with black sounding names. And black males got longer sentences, because the length of sentences are given as to how long your criminal record is. On average young black males have a much longer criminal record than do white males at the same age. They start at a much younger age committing felonies. Obama before he was elected said that he will have a hard time getting elected, because most people won't vote for him, that don't look like him. Obama received over 55% of the white vote in 2008. A needless and hurtful racist comment about white American voters. In contrast black voters voted for him nearly solely on his race...about 97%. Why didn't he ever talk about that?
I believe those people interviewed were too hard on themselves. Every one of those Russians looked like delightful people!
It would be wonderful to meet any of them.

Возможно стереотип, а может быть и нет, но на мой взгляд у американцев гораздо больше стереотипов о русских, нежели у русских об американцах. И в основном это клюква.
The Russian people seem very down to earth nice to see. I’d definitely like to take a vacation there one day. It’s too bad we don’t have better relations with them. Thanks to the nitwits in charge
Welcome to Saint Petersburg, you will like us😊
Love the blonde gentleman at 7:28. He seems to be what we should all strive to be: an enlightened citizen of the world that can acknowledge existing stereotypes without letting them influence his opinion of individuals. His remarks are a breath of fresh air in a world that loves to assume hate and to highlight differences. He, and many others in this video, serve as proof that good, easy going, and open-minded people exist everywhere and should be celebrated as individuals instead of automatically linking them to the geo-political waltz conducted by their country's government. People are good!
Americans to me are patriotic to the point of sickening, yet gullible and very naive when it’s happening outside their border. They’re loud and everyone has an opinion. Russians to me are very reserved, quiet, family orientated, smart, focused and calm. Very Beautiful people.
I am an American and most of the Americans I know are very disappointed in our government so how could we all be patriotic to the point of disgust?
Sounds like you need to find another country to live in
I'm an American from NC and will compare US Women vs Russians: Russian Women I saw them in Turkey they're amazingly beautiful + Humble. US-Women lots of them over 250 lbs with huge thighs and they think they're the center of the universe lol
I live in the US. Many Russian people live here and I don't recall ever meeting a person from Russia I didn't like. Russia and the US should have a far better relationship. I'm talking about the government relationship problem. The Left cooked up the Russia collusion nonsense and they are to blame for the new cold war.
How many indictments were handed over the "russia-collusion hoax" than over the "benghazi shitstorm"??
"Wouldn't it be nice to get along with Russia?"
That was it. That is all it took for the insane leftists, unfortunately like the host here, to go batshit crazy and start accusing Trump of being Putin's bitch.
Why do you all always have to bring politics into everything? That's one of the biggest problems! I'm very left leaning, and I agree with everything you said up to the last line. All countries have good people and bad, and we should have much better relationships than we do with other nations. We should all be able to agree on that. Why can't we leave it at that instead of always finding things (like politics) to divide us even further?
@ CMack Scott
The clintons and the Biden crime family have nothing but hatred for russians

I have no stereotypes about Russia. They are humans with families, children, and problems just like us. We are all the same.
I think some of them may have real harsher opinions but they were trying to be un-confrontational and friendly
Possible, especially after hearing what Canadians said about us
(Hurts to this day 🥲)
"We are free from stereotypes." Really nice.
Stereotypes must mean something else.

I wish we could just all be humans, living our best lives and taking care of each other and the planet. Thats my dream.
We Americans love Russia people. They are great. We have a lot living in Ohio. They are hard working and very respectful, kind, funny people. If you don't have a Russian friend get one they are fantastic.
That's right, we are very similar. The best outcome would be to unite and found a common nation!
What a great video! Ive always wanted to know what the Russian people thought about Americans!! And wow!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts in America!! We love you too!
I was pleasantly surprised! 💓
All American ain't fat some russian are too and Americans are not all black 😂😂😂
You are right, it is all about stereotypes we watch on TV
This is true. America IS one of - if not the - most obese nation on earth, that is a statistical fact, but obviously not all Americans are obese. We definitely need to be taking better care of ourselves as a nation and spending way less money on fast food and junk, but stereotypes are still dangerous, even when there is an element of truth to them.
If you watch TV you'd think half of America is black
I believe people are the same all over the world. They want to live in peace, they want their Gov't to leave them alone and they want a decent standard of living. If governments would stop trying to undermine other countries I think things would be alot better.
@sneksnekitsasnek Most people around the world do not want any kind of totalitarianism, not the traditional kind nor the new flavor coming from leftist extremists in the US.
So true....maybe not the government leaving us alone (😊) but government giving the citizens what’s due to them & stopping with the corruption.
People, really, are basically the same all over the world.
As a russian living in America this actually makes me really happy
SoMe of these are true, but it has nothing to do with the people as individuals, but rather the societal standards and people in power
welcome to the USA....

This was a lot of fun! Love that young people are getting beyond stereotypes and laughing at the ones they have. We are learning to be a human family and soon we'll push gov'ts aside and live in equality, respect and unity.
Love your videos man keep doing the whole thing in russian. I’m learning a lot
I think Alexiy said it best: the conflicts between our two countries are manufactured by the governments, not the people. And Kyle, you smash the sterotype about Americans not learning other languages!
Great video. Much love to the Russian people from Canada
Smiling? Helping?

Amazing video! It just shows people are really the same all over the world. We are all one. Such an interesting comment there at the end about Russians not daring to fully express themselves yet. I think you're getting there though, and getting there fast. Great!
Russians have beautiful smiles also!
Carl Ferry from my point of view I think that Russian smile comes from heart, weather American smile most of the time fake.
If Russians smile they do it from the heart, from really feeling open. It does take time for Russians to open up, that's the trait that has been here through out the history.

It was great to see Russian people in a social setting as they seemed to be enjoying life. We visited St. Petersburg for 2 days in June 2019, while on a Baltic cruise. We loved it, although we never got the opportunity to interact with the locals except for our tour guides.
I have smiles that display each emotion. My kids haven't figured them all out and sometimes get scared when I'm smiling over something happy.
Hahaha! They are more like us than they realize!! I love y'all! You are beautiful people!! Proud of who you are!!! Blessings!!
Have any of you guys noticed how many family's and kids there seems to be in these videos, just everywhere, happy in public. Just saying. Its feels like your a burden on society having kids in London , I have have two young children, people hate family's at restaurants and public places, you get so many dirty irritated looks. Sure there are lots of nice People too, but definitely more ngeativity than positivity.
In England, young family's are typically frowned upon because they are accociated with teen pregnancy and delinquency and stuff like that. Men and Women want to go out and party untill they are 35-40 and women don't want to Breast feed or have kids because they want to preserve there "figure". England has becom so obsessed with "ethics" woman's/gay/racial, whatever, but we seem to have forgotten or lost sight some of the basics. All I hear in england about Russia is negativity, along with Muslims and China, I'm now being told Russia wants to destroy my civilization as well...I'm not so sure. In many regards, the veiws and traditions of China and other places seem more logical than our own in Europe, it's weird, with all our sophistication and progressiv'ness we are regresing in many other areas. Anyways, what a bloody rant that was, back to my point, many of the families with kids I've see on your walkabouts and city's overviews seem young as a family man my self, I notice this and it suprises me. ofcourse I'm sure I'm generalising, but it seems as though young families are encouraged ? And normal? Am I on to something? Oh and nice video!
What a wonderful comment. they say New York is the worst place to raise a family. And I think London is not that much different. I think it has to do with the size and the density of the city. Same things are happening in Russia women start having kids at a later age. They want to get some education and build some sort of career first. Most families have one or two kids. The original population is on the decline. The only reason it is not declining according to the stats is because we have a lot of migrant workers coming over from the former USSR republics. I've never felt like families with kids are frowned upon. Well maybe they are in high-end restaurants. But that's not the right place to come with kids anyway. Okay hope this clear things up a little for you. Thanks for watching the video
Frowning at families with children seems like a sign of straight pass to extinction. Hmm... Who would spread such an attitude and why?
@@metacsum Any ideas?
well unless the real idea of freedom sets in western minds, and people stop thinking of freedom as a free pass to challenge morals, you're up for more problems. that is why third world countries will always hold on to morals rather than please anyone.

With the real people of Russia and the USA, we find friendship and the good in all. Without the useless politics, we are all seeking the same thing in many ways, family, friendship and happiness. Its nice to see the world is getting smaller for the good of all people
That was so awesome!!! I think most Americans need to watch this! I would cringe as to what many Americans would say about Russians if asked the same questions on the street. Obviously a lot of our stereotypes are based on what we see in the news, but mostly how Russians have been and still are portrayed in the majority of Hollywood movies - typically the villains. And sadly we don't have as much opportunity to see many Russian movies and tv shows, to see they are human beings just like us, experiencing the same hopes, dreams, joy and heartbreak.
