They do seem much more like us than even English speaking countries in Europe. They are a very common sense people. None of this communist idiocracy we see in most places who want the government to take care of people who don't want to work. Russians are standoffish until you get to know them. It's just the culture; kind of like how they don't end sentences with an upward inflection unless they're asking a question. It's just how they are. But, once you unlock that achievement, a Russian person is one of the most loyal friends you will ever have. They're warm, funny and intelligent.

The other thing is, looking around and after having been to Russia. In asking the question about marrying to come to the states, how do you figure we live better than them when you take everything into account? Definitely a stereotype of the immediate post soviet period. True freedoms, culture, quality of food, type of people, politics. It’s been my experience that Russia is actually becoming a far better place to live than the US and improving every year. The same cannot be said for the myriad of growing problems we have in the states today.

actually, Oklahoma's homicide rate is above US average (tinyurl.com/y65cp9kr), and the US homicide rate ranks 79th out of 198 countries (tinyurl.com/y3rrotm4). Which means there are 78 countries where homicide rate is higher, usually much less developed countries from Africa, former Soviet countries, Central and South America. 120 countries have fewer homicides per 100000 people then the USA. No developed country has higher homicide rate than the USA (and Oklahoma). European countries have usually less than half the homicide rate of the USA.
