Very interesting interview. I am an American who had a city business but created a horse ranch in the mountains in California in a rural area 180 miles away. It was my first experience with ranching. I bought the ranch with a fairly new 3 bedroom house on it but a very small barn and little else. It was a bank foreclosure so I got it really cheap as a gift for my GF who was living in a city but was a horse lover and had a horse she had to stable. She was thrilled but the first day we had it, she mapped out a game plan and for 2 years I never worked so hard every day fencing, building a large barn, a small lake 1 acre lake for horse exercise if injured, remodeled the house converting it to a 2 bedroom with a gigantic closet room where a 3rd bedroom was. The second year we built a 16,000SQ Ft indoor arena for working with prospect cutters in the breeding business. Neither of us built anything so large and only at one stage did we bring in a crew to help with setting the 100 foot span joists 30 feet in the air. So, his advice about focusing on the production elements first was very wise. We exhausted ourselves trying to do both plus oversee my actual business, also, like his, was a recording studio, a large one with 65 employees and 3 studios. I had a great staff so I did not have to be there that much. As he said also, get some experience, I learned on the job and made a lot of mistakes and had never worked with horses before. BUT the results were impressive, local ranchers felt sorry for us and loaned us tools or helped when extra hands were needed to repair the too-old tractor. Luck came however and we ended with a successful business that could have supported us if it was the only business. We broke up a few years later, partly due to the workload and my splitting time between the two businesses. I moved to Russia myself in 2000 and have been in St Petersburg all this time. His comments about getting easier with paperwork might be different in his area but here it has become so easy, and helpful that it is easier to start a business here and make it work here than the US now by a long way. There are hundreds of thousands of Americans and Europeans living in western Russia now, raising families and all I have met have agreed that quality of life is better how in Russia than back in the US, being so much lower in cost of living, access to excellent health care, free university etc. It is safe, relaxed, very social and people get along a lot better here now than in the US primarily because there is not the political identity division, any difference in opinion is treated simply as a personal view and not any reason to get angry or tell others how they must live. The US is fine if one is wealthy and the problems thr bottom 90% have are not visited on th wealthy. Making friends is very easy in Russia, you can approach anyone of either sex, if you are polite and have something interesting to say, without the toxic battle between the sexes that has become so destructive in recent decades in the US. With low cost of living and no need for a car, one can live just fine with very little income. I know street musicians who work two days a week and make enough to live debt-free and take foreign vacations once a year, own their apartment free and clear and have a lot of free time to pursue their music career. I came here seeking a simple life with time to explore interests. To do that I gave everything away except 1 car and one house, and a storage unit filled with mementos, photos, and gold/platinum records awarded to the studio. Everything else, given away and ended up 3 weeks later on the main street of St Petersburg with 2 suitcases, $6000 in my pocket and no idea where to live or how to support myself. I had been to Russia many times, and many other countries but going to stay is very different. As it turns out, that moment standing there was the freest I had ever felt, and getting established was fun, exciting and rewarding. The best decision of my life. Now I have 3 businesses and lots of spare time to socialize, attend plays, opera, jazz clubs, ballet, more museums than anywhere, pubs, galleries, dance clubs, photography, travel, etc. When Americans come for a visit every one of them has expressed how they loved it and how different it was than how they were told every day. I know hundreds of foreigners who have moved here and started businesses, many of them chefs who dreamed of their own restaurant or those working in the arts. Living in a rural area is similar however, as the rural USA in the 50s, which is not bad, just different than most current day Americans are used to. Most people live in cities like in every country, so many villages die every year because the young people went away to university(almost everyone has graduated from college in Russia) and stayed in the cities. With the expansion, a really large expansion of agriculture some have moved back to start wineries, cattle ranches, and high-value crops. Commodity crops like wheat, corn, or poultry are large operations but there is lots of room for and demand for specialties like honey, mushrooms, exotic fruit, and exotic eggs such as Ostrich eggs. Russian cheese, wine production and craft beer has really taken off. The biggest attractions for me is the personal freedom and the people. I have more close friends here than ever, most of the women, all very well educated cultured and warm-hearted...oh, yes, very attractive.
Thank you for this very insightful comment. We lived in the States for 10 years in Atlanta then went back to South Africa where we from fir 10 years and we moved to Tblisi Georgia 2.5 years ago. I am really intrigued by Russia and think the country has a great future. I would love to start up something in agriculture. It's just the emmigration process that seems to be quite challenging and lengthy? How is the atmosphere in Russia now towards foreigners while the conflict in Ukraine is going on? If we want to live in the countryside which part of Russia you think is best?
What an amazing, interesting life! I live in Los Angeles, but my grandparents lived in Northern California and had a small farm. I studied Russian and Soviet history and always wanted to discover all the places that I’ve read so much about. To say that I’m devastated at current state of events is an understatement. Very envious of you Stan.
This guy is amazing going from the US to Russia. He seems very happy there and I really appreciate that. I am an American and I would love to visit Russia.

YES!!! I've lived in Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia for 20 years and what Justus says is true! And I've been an English conversation teacher (one on one) most of my time here. And we do have an ostrich farm here. I'm not even thinking of returning to the United States. Russia is a very safe country - the police here in Ufa do not carry guns, clean environment and no GMO food. I've found that I have more personal and civil freedoms here that when I lived in the states.
@Admin ADMIN We have been living together for 500 years and this is not an occupation, the language and religion and traditions are preserved, this does not fit this term. In no country do people of 190 nations live in such a friendly environment, we have succeeded.
Now that was fabulous! Justus is also a very insightful person not only funny! Great video indeed! While I watch from here (Finland) my thoughts are with you - Russia needs a lot of hard work and positive attitude.
Lovely , having lived in Canada , the prairies for a number of years , I think the winters in Russia and Canada and the USA midwest are very similar and breed a certain individual , its hard to survive the winters and can brood pessimism in winter and great joy in the spring and summer . Also proves you can live anywhere if you immerse yourself in the culture .
Great interview. What a guy, so upbeat and a very interesting life story. 3 farms and 6 businesses he's started and still has to wait to get his citizenship, Come on Russia get it together with the bureaucracy already. It will help not only him but the country as a whole from investment to helping out individuals in such a huge way once they finally get with the times, i know there taking steps just not fast enough it's 2019 already. Another great video, keep them coming. Bruce in Michigan
I think it is because of his church, generally. It is a foreign country foundation. And he have a permission to live and work in Russia (sort of green card) anyway. But, he is a man who deserves to be a Russian citizen much more than numerous russians
Congratulations to Justus Walker. I am very pleased that you have been compelled to post an English video. I was blessed to visit you at your farm near Soloneshnoye in 2018. Praise to Jah that your family is growing and abounding, and also that your farm is doing so well. I was so overjoyed to go on a road trip with you up to Takuchet and visit with the small chapel (church) up there. I was surprised at first when I was given the opportunity to do a little bit of work in your "attic", but it was the joy of the Lord that made it a rewarding experience after such a tremendous road trip through the heart of Siberia. I hope that I can call on you again for future visits. Praise to Jah for all that you do. You are a bonefide minister and a man of true heart. I hope to see more of you. Also - thanks for the tiny snapshot of Yekaterinburg in the background - Daniel

Man, this guy is positive. Whatever mood you were in before watching this you will be uplifted when you've finished. The good spirits of this man is so contagious. Is it me or is this guy is what a lot of russians are lacking? This optimism, this "it''s going to be ok, don't worry'' attitude even if you don't know if it will? Looking at this guy you just can't imagine that anything that we in Russia think as a problem would stop him or even bother him. I know it's probably not like that, we are all people and not that different from each other, but this is the impression he produces. He must be is really good at motivating others. We need more people like him in Russia.
I hope that Justus will start a program to show the rest of us how to come and do likewise. Those of us that have a similar farm, business and faith background. The northern states and Canada are full of young men that are looking for a start in agriculture.
Wandamian Crucifixplate why is it hard for you? I have foreign friends and getting Russian tourist or business visa is not a problem now, some people find it hard just because in most other cases like EU , Americans don't need any visa at all, so collecting some papers and finding out what do you need for a visa is a big WTF and "hard" for them LOL.
@@SirPrancelot1 There is not a 20-year wait, if applied for, people can get it in 1.5 years. I know an American living in St Petersburg who has been here 14 years and only applied less than 2 years ago and has had a Russian passport and citizenship for 7 months. Even before he was a citizen he had full free health care that was a lifesaver because he needed a kidney transplant and got it a couple weeks after getting on the transplant list. Having been there a number of times I'll tell you their dairy products are great! You don't get milk, sour cream like that in the states. If it's beef you're after you will have a harder time although you can buy it at the butcher shops. In the city my wife is from there are markets it seems on every block or so. They sell everything from clothes to eggs ( by the 10 not by the dozen) to chicken and veggies, and flowers. He's right about doing anything with the government too. It is a nightmare to get things done some times. A simple trip to the post office can take a couple of hours to register your visa. The post offices are quaint though. They sell everything from stamps to garden seeds, cards, and magazines in there. Never been to a village there, but next trip I will. Nice video, thanks!:)

@@leviosbrattie There is a back story to it, Nursultan Nazerbayev visited my province in Canada and then decided to send a team of agricultural specialists from Kazakhstan to Canada to learn about transitioning back to individual farming practices. Thanks for doing this interview. It was great! Greetings from Richmond, Virginia, USA
@Care Free bullshit! Caucasus is very welcoming and ready to help everyone!

@OAT351
What "bs" are they trying to sell to you? Jesus? Gospel? A thought of why you exist at all and where are you heading?
