Absolutely 💯 on the signs, I use them for everything. Sign plastic also bonds great using thin plastic cement. I used the foam sheets, too. Makes great concrete floors and has a nice texture. I get foam core sheets to make tunnel portals and get the black foam core to build tunnel liners. Hot glue gun to put down cork road bed. It makes the job go fast, n cheap
Lots of great ideas. I did use the for sale sign for roads but after awhile they bubbled up. Not sure what went wrong but I am trying out the thin foam. I appreciate your budget saving ideas.
When I glue down either the signs or the foam I use a thin layer of wood glue making sure to cover the whole surface. Has worked well even when parts of the layout were stored over the cold winter.
I even make my own rust powder out of 0000 steel wool soaked in vinegar for a couple months. Pour out the mixture in a flat pan and wait for it to dry. Use a single edge razor blade to pulverize it into a powder. Looks like real rust 'cause it IS real rust (iron oxide). I make all my trees and ground material and use my electric coffee grinder to grind up foam for trees and ground. I color it in the grinder with cheap Wally World acrylic paint. Hay made out of jute cord cut up fine. I use bread ties (the flat plastic kind) for coupler shims. Now I've gotta get some signs. Great idea as I scratch build a lot. I got a mini table saw so I build a lot out of wood. Sign material would be helpful over wood structure for siding. I also use my airbrush to paint almost everything. For weathering I always use women's eye shadow makeup I get at the dollar store. Works better than any weathering powders 'cause it sticks better. I only use this on new models so it can be removed & ain't permanent. Cheers from eastern TN

I've used foam board to create a cement lined tunnel. I might try the black board on the project layout that I'm building for my brother.
