  • Chinese New Year Celebration in Xi'an China
    What's the Spring Festival like in China's oldest city?
    Xi'an China: I arrived in the oldest city in China to celebrate Chinese New Year here, which is also known as the spring festival or Lunar New Year. I am joined by my friends @JetLagWarriors and we are super curious to witness and experience the Chinese New Year celebrations here in China. It's out first time being in China during the Chinese New Years period, so we were not sure what to expect!
    Join us on New Years Eve here in Xi'an, China, a city full with history and friendly people. Do you celebrate Chinese New Year? If yes, what did you do? And which name do you prefer? Lunar New Years, Spring festival or Chinese New Year?

      That is the thing with Chinese civilization even they were conquered by Manchus from the north, the manchus embraced the chinese culture, something about chinese culture is largely based on philosophy that is based on yin and yang and many are found in Confucianism. There must be a reason why these traditions, cultures have lasted 5000 years, survived even the cultural revolution.

    Xi'an was part of the Qin Kingdom, which unified China and established China's first imperial dynasty in 221 BC. "秦尚黑", i.e., "The people of Qin favored the color black", considering it a noble hue of that era. This historical preference for black attire endures even today, which was probably why black clothing was recommended to you.

      It IS lunar calendar that Chinese traditionally follows. There's a saying that china built the country based on agriculture 以農立國. The moon movement has great effect on water level that affects agriculture, farmers can correlate the lunar calendar with their work, and this calendar was followed by all dynasties till the modern day china switched to use solar calendar in line with international standard. The Spring Gala is just too long, 4 hrs long. And only a few items I'm amazed by it, like the 大鱼 dance (on wire) and the 民族 section which is different. The rest are kinda boring which most foreigners would not understand it anyway, like comedy skit, which is too long.

    Happy Chinese new year!!!! It’s okay to call it Chinese new year because this tradition indeed originated in China and spread to different neighboring regions, but it still sees the most extensive celebration amongst Chinese communities around the world. I don’t see why we need to change its name to be politically correct or to appease certain nationalistic groups just because now multiple countries may celebrate it as well, when the root is absolutely Chinese.

    • @suhardisjahrial3318
      @suhardisjahrial3318 3 місяці тому

      The so called "lunar new year" is western media hype to demonize China. Some Asian countries that celebrate it, but realize that it is not their own, like to use that term so that they can claim it is part of their culture as well. These countries do not even use Chinese scripts lmao, some of them do not even have their own scripts and use Latin alphabet instead -- schamlos...

    Chinese New Year is the most important family festival in China, and the most important moment for family gatherings is New Year's Eve, when people rush home from all over the country and must arrive home before New Year's Eve. So what you see on the street are tourists, and there are not many of them, because at this time the Chinese are waiting for the New Year with their families

    Lol there is a huge debate going on in China about fireworks in Chinese New Year. Some people just love the CNY vibes it brings while the other side just hate the air pollution and danger of damaging people. So officially it is not encouraged, but still there are designated areas where fireworks are allowed, mostly suburban and wide-open areas

    The screaming fountain you meet in the Grand Tang Mall Street is because the fountain was designed as a sound level controlled system.The louder sound level provided by the surrounded environment the higher the fountain water spray,so people are shouting to make the water reach a higher level.That’s a very interesting machine system.Glad to see you arrived to Xi’an,which is my hometown,and now I studied in Canada.Btw,strongly recommend you guys go to The Grand Tang Royal Garden Park(大唐芙蓉园,which is near by the place you already visited and need to buy tickets first)and also go to Qujiang Lake Park(曲江池),which is for free.These are both very nice traditional style parks❤

    New Year Countdown is more of an imported idea from the West. CNY Eve is usually dinner with family and (depending on region) having a stroll in the "Flower Market" (CNY market). The fireworks are generally on the actual CNY day, First day of the first Lunar month. Happy CNY!

Most people that want to see fireworks usually go to a third tier cities or countryside where fireworks are allowed.
