- Take a journey through some of Hollywood's greatest films on The Great Movie Ride! The Disney's Hollywood Studios' attraction went through a transformation by Turner Classic Movies.
After you enter the Chinese Theater, you'll wind your way through the queue. (0:56) One of the updates on The Great Movie Ride is the new pre-show documentary narrated by Robert Osborne, host of TCM. (1:26)
You'll hop onto a tram and begin your tour through Hollywood with a hostess. (3:34) Notice the new signage featuring TCM! (4:21)
As you start your tour, Robert Osborne will begin to narrate the journey. (4:38) On your left will be Gene Kelly from the 1952 film "Singin' in the Rain." (5:11) Next up is a classic Disney musical "Marry Poppins"! (5:35)
Entering dangerous territory, the tram takes you through scenes of "Public Enemy." (6:29) A gangster approaches you, as your hostess abandons the tram and a shootout takes place! (7:32)
With a gangster as your tour guide, you'll make your way into John Wayne's world of the West. (9:24) You'll take a turn into an alien-overtaken spaceship and venture inside the film of "Alien." (11:04)
George Lucas' "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark" is the next classic film set you'll become a part of. (12:26) The gangster "tour guide" gets into some trouble after miserably failing to steal a jewel and your hostess returns! (13:52)
You'll venture inside the jungle home of Tarzan (14:56) before traveling to Mickey Mouse's magical world of "Fantasia"! (15:41)
The tram will follow the yellow brick road to "The Wizard of Oz." (16:15) Look out for the Wicked Witch of the West!
Another part of the recent updates is the new classic movie montage. (19:08) During this montage, you'll see some of Hollywood's greatest films, including "Star Wars" and "Tangled"! Previously just a dark space, The Great Movie Ride ends with a new ending signage featuring TCM. (22:29)

I hate how the actors treat alien like he isn't a big deal. He will scare the crap out of you if he were real. Even though he isn't.
Maki Nishikino still a scary movie and one of my favorites.
It was funnny once I saw the gangster try to shoot at it and she was like darn outta bullets!

This was a ride that can never be duplicated replaced or bested. I loved how it used to flow from the chim chim charooo leading into a darker and more sinister urban tone, to Waye warning you about "rough territory" up ahead before alien.
20:50 The theme from Gone With the Wind always brings a tear to my eye. And with the montage of great love scenes it's just perfect. I'm going to miss this ride...
RIP The Great Movie Ride. A Mouse Forced You To Step Aside (Haunted Mansion gravestone anyone?)
And since Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom is about to be replaced here's an idea for a tombstone: Really Mickey? Couldn't have just been a cat or dog? But it had to be Brer Rabbit to die and be replaced by The Princess and the Frog.
Never got to go on this ride myself and regret that I never did. This ride looks so much better than what they replaced it with. Truly a work of art like all these movies that were represented in it. RIP Great Movie Ride. You will be remembered 👏👏👏

+UndercoverTourist.com I was just ejected from it like 30 minutes ago because the roof caught fire ther wer security keeping people from the building, the roof was smoking and it's completely closed at the moment because of it....I was stuck in the alien scene

Miss it a lot. One of the last times I rode it. The ride got stopped as the cast member came out from gangster alley. So he was joking with us for a good 10 minutes. Good memories

My favorite part of this ride was the ending. I love how they put a bunch of famous and classic movies together. Certainly represents a true celebration of classic movies.

And while the ride itself is fine... I kinda wish they could update some of the animatronics to make the lips and faces move a little more.
And for the "actors" standing still, maybe you could move them a little more. Like the woman in "Alien", she could move her body slightly when she turns her head and maybe a bit of "heavy breathing" action could work. Also same for the guy standing by the door in the Western film area. Gene Kelley's mouth could move a little more as he sings in the rain. So could Mary Poppins' and Bert's.

Aside from that, I love this ride. I went on it for the first time a month ago, and I rode it three times that day! Absolutely love it, because I, too, love movies.

Favorite ride ever (next to Small World, but that's more nostalgia). I think I rode this three times last time I was there since there happened to be next to no line.

That ride was classic Disney and doing away with it for what will effectively be a kiddie coaster is such a horrific mistake. If Disney would like to continue killing their parks with action mainstream character movies that only serve to make their company money, they're definitely on the right path. For several years, I've had to reason to go to Animal Kingdom because its trash if you're not a 6 year old. Hollywood Studios has been deteriorating steadily for the past 10 years. They've slowly eliminated everything that has kept the Disney spirit alive, including the entire exhibit about Walt Disney's history. Please find ways to enhance the true Disney experience instead of killing it with corporate rhetoric. There are alot of us still that love the Disney parks for what they are and have always been. Please keep to true traditions, keep the Disney spirit alive and please stop trying to adhere to current trends that adhere to America's general population of Forrrest Gump and below.
Here’s the thing,even though Disney’s main character is Mickey,there are 0 rollercoasters about him. So it’s a good thing,see,you have to look in a different perspective. Sure,the great movie ride was good,but just because it’s going to be kid-friendly,doesn’t mean they will have fun with all the other rides.
Glad this video was made. I went to Hollywood Studios the year after they got ride of this ride. One of the reasons I went was to see this ride. Such a disappointment that it is gone.

This was a great ride to save for the afternoon thunderstorm. By the time you went through the queue and the ride, the storm was over, the park less crowded, and your feet rested. Grab a bite to eat and you're good to go until fireworks.
I miss this ride
I sobbed the last time I rode this. This was one of my favorite rides in the entire Disney resort. I have two of the shirts they sold when it was closing (normal and passholder) and I loved it until the end. As much as I miss this ride, and as much as a piece of my heart hurts, I cannot wait for the new ride that will take its place. With all the great things Disney has been doing, I have no inkling of doubt in my mind that the new Mickey Mouse ride will be amazing :)

The scrim over the Bubsey Berkely girls helps liven up the very boring opener to the ride. In the early days it rotated and squirted water, I guess it was a maintenance problem.

Well here’s a little fact so that projection of Mickey Mouse doing is magic was originally supposed to be a wizard of oz tornado scene with the house and apparently after they built the tornado scene they didn’t actually get permission to use that scene from the movie so they just put Mickey in front of the scene, I wish they could of at least shown us the scene

I haven't been on this ride with my parents yet. The only problem is, we haven't been to Orlando, Florida before due to the hurricanes and the night club massacre. Strangers kept asking us questions about it and we said, "No". Is there any rule against taking photos on a ride like this 1? It's similar to the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood (California version), because the vehicle is a different size.

RIP the great movie ride
I was going to go on this ride last december right before my disney world annual passes expired, but I chickened out because I always get intense feelings of anxiety during the alien scene for some reason. I love the ride and all and i've been on it each time I go to hollywood studios with the exception of the last time, it's just that I find it pretty difficult to fight my anxiety during the alien scene. disney world has also raised their ticket prices in the past month or so so who knows how long it will be until I visit disney world again now :(
Samuel Black I get the same around the alien scene, I just look down until it passes.
Wanda Maximoff that's a good idea but at the same time i want to keep my head up during the alien part even though i always get anxious around that part. I find it scary and awesome at the same time.
I'm always tickled by how little time the Castmember has to respond to the Witch before she starts talking again. I don't think I've ever witnessed a time when the Witch DOESN"T say "very well" too soon.
