All this time my little mind never pieced together that the ride was in a separate building under the mansion. Silly me, guess the Disney magic worked.
My fave Disney ride 🖤💜🖤💜🖤
Safe to say the best remaining dark ride in the world. Never get sick of it.
My grandfather worked on the sinking room of the Haunted Mansion. He was an elevator mechanic and the company he worked for was the one chosen for the project.
Cyn Wilson that’s awesome!!
Cyn Wilson wow that's brill must have been a big thing for grandfather
Cyn Wilson You’re FAMOUS 🤩😁😎
Cyn Wilson Wow!! That’s so cool!
Thats insane!!
Anything Disney related makes me happy but seeing history on the HAUNTED MANSION brings even more joy to my life. I love hearing about all the Haunted Mansions around the world.
Benjamin Graves you should see the movie
thank you so much for talking about Phantom Manor! it's such a wonderful attraction and we Europeans are very proud of it!
Best Disney ride EVER!!!
I was 12 when WDW opened, and I immediately gravitated towards the Haunted Mansion. And I've been doing it ever since! (show biz and special FX)
Realiy Nices 🎉🎊
I got a chance to go on Mystic Manor in Hong Kong during a Naval deployment, and it was fantastic! I still have a lot of nostalgia for the Haunted Mansions in WDW and Disneyland in CA, but I'd love if they additionally had Mystic Manor since I'm sure I won't have another opportunity to visit Hong Kong.
Joseph Holliday Mystic Manor is a great attraction and hopefully a version of it comes stateside soon, but most importantly thanks for serving our country!
Thanks for the kind words!
You should turn the history episodes into podcasts as well. I could listen to these all day.
I love the original Haunted Mansion, I think it's awesome and when I think of the Haunted Mansion, in my mind I see the one at Disneyland. But I have to say, as far as looks go, WDW has it beat. That large brick mansion just looks scary. I read on another site, that when Tokyo was built they went with the WDW style architecture as opposed to the Disneyland antebellum look, because the Imagineers felt it was more imposing and just looked more like what you think of as a typical haunted house.
I guess you could say the Haunted Mansion was the first instance of an idea going into the Imagineering ‘filing cabinet’ and later being brought out in a different form (walkthrough to the doom buggies, Main Street to New Orleans Square, etc..)

The Haunted Mansion ride is my FAVORITE ride in WDW's Magic Kingdom :) It's so great learning about the other Haunted Mansions in the various Disney parks...really cool video!
CoralJoyTravel thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it :)
Awesome video!! I'm just slightly obsessed with the Haunted Mansion, so I really dug this. You also published it on my Birthday, so Happy Birthday to me!! :D
I wonder if Shanghai Disneyland will get either a clone of Mystic Manor or a completely different manor that somehow connects with both the Mystic Manor and Tokyo Disney Sea's Tower of Terror.
Google Earth is an interesting way to explore Disneyland and to see the buildings behind the buildings
It's a common misconception that Rolly and Marc each had an idea for the ride and decided to each take half of it. The truth is that Rolly and Marc were the main designers of the attraction and both had a hand throughout the entire ride. This is explained in one of the Index chapters at the end of the book Boundless Realms by Foxx Nolte. I know the book was published in 2020, but I wanted to point this out anyway.
Can you do the history of Snow White’s Scary Adventures?
Listening to these in the background as I edit. :)
I just subscribed earlier today and now you upload mansion! Yes!
The hunted mansion is one of my fav rides
lovely! well done. i liked how you gave some quick info on the ones in the international parks.I have only ever ridden the original in California, maybe one day I will get to try the others.
Love these videos!! The history is interesting
Whilst the New Orleans Square Haunted Mansion was based on the Shipley-Lydecker House in Baltimore & the Liberty Square Haunted Mansion was inspired by the Harry-Packer Mansion in Pennsylvania, both American versions of the ride were also influenced by the Winchester Mystery House (you know, the supposed haunted house with staircases leading to nowhere & doorway chutes with supposed secret passages throughout).
Tokyo's version of the Mansion, besides residing in Fantasyland, also retains the pre-2006 ride-through (meaning, no Constance Hatchaway Attic Bride update found in both stateside renditions [as in, it's still the melancholy Beating Heart Bride with screeching pop-up ghost groomsmen cruelly mocking her in Japan], nor the rematerialized Hatbox Ghost following his 2015 arrival at Disneyland) as well.
Phantom Manor ignored Walt's rule of having pristine building exteriors largely for cultural reasons b/c of the vast array of multilingual guests (for whom English may not be their native language, seeing as the park is in the metropolitan tourist hub of Paris, France rather than the relatively unknown town of Paris in Texas, naturally), as well as the fact that the foreboding gothic architecture from Florida's iteration is what the local neighborhood European cemeteries actually look like, meanwhile the antebellum plantation style of the original wouldn't suit the Frontierland relocation of the attraction, not to mention it simply would not be scary enough to indicate the visual of a Haunted Mansion for the common European sensibilities, considering how even most of the other more light-hearted fairytale retellings Disney reimagined into sacchirine musicals (those based in the U.K. [like Peter Pan based on the book-turned-play by James Barrie, the madcap world of Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, Winnie-the-Pooh & its House at Pooh Corner continuation by A.A. Milne, & 101 Dalmatians by the source book's author just to name a few] notwithstanding) actually originated from the darker European folktales that served as morality stories to frighten delinquent kids into behaving properly from the likes of Hans Christian Anderson and, of course, rather appropriately for the discussion at hand, the Brothers GRIMM.
Greatest place in the world, it is really a magic place
Lol as a kid I always wondered how we all fit into that house! The ride seemed so big and the house so little! It was underground! 😂😂
RockenDokkenlover91 - The ride is in the building behind the Mansion. You descend in the elevator that way you walk through a tunnel under the railroad and into the show building where the ride is actually housed. Pause at 5:03 to see.
Love Haunted Mansion, great video. Do tower of terror, I still remember seeing tower of terror under construction once when I was a kid at Disney MGM studios (now Disney Hollywood Studios).
Love these videos. More Please!

Great research for this video! great job!
When mentioning attempts by other parks to replicate the Haunted Mansion, you should've had some brief on-ride footage of Geisterschloss at Europa Park.
Great 👍
Cool Documentey About The Haunted Mansion Dark Ride At Disneyland Los Angeles. Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X
You should make more videos like this.
Nice video!!!!
The Haunted Mansion is my favorite attraction at WDW, been going there for the past 34 years!!
That's super crazy thought the ride was in the actual house when all it was just an elevator that takes you down to the ride
When mentioning the fact that other amusement parks have tried to imitate aspects of this attraction, you should've included footage from the Geisterschloss ride at Europa Park...several of its scenes were clearly inspired by the Mansion.
Haunted mansion here in California is the best because it's Halloween time at disneyland resort in Anaheim California right now until October 31st happy Halloween to you guys
