- Hello Off Trackers,
This was not a great video to film, but sadly one that needed to happen for the channel to make sense. The Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series is gone! after just 6 weeks! The channel will live on and this is not the end.
Insurance companies are great at charging premiums, even better at finding excuses not to pay. I’m glad you are all ok. That is the main thing.
Yep unfortunately they are not so good at doing the right thing. But you are right main thing is we are still here and can keep exploring 🙂
Thank you 😊
Keen to hear from your thoughts once you have been off road, glad you're able to tell your story good luck with the build, Will
G'Day mate, that video has been filmed just needs editing, hopefully up next Sunday 😊👍
Glad you both are ok, hope to see you both on the track's soon.
Thanks mate 👍😊
Definitely want to push this new 70 to its limits
I’m glad you and your family are safe
Wow far out , that cruiser saved ya lives air bags or no air bags dosnt matter , the overall strength in the car frame and full chassis having real steel did the job and thank God u got another cruiser be mad not too 👍
100% agree mate 👍
The fact they are all steel and no alloy saved our life's. So lucky to be in one.
Our family was not letting us buy anything bar another 79 🤣😂
All the best. My son wrote off my cruiser (wagon) barrel rolled it down the road. Both tyres deflated. Roof stayed up steel bull bar actually reduced damage to cab. He walked away completely unscathed. Had a medical the following week! Car was standard height standard wheels. It protected him very well.
G'Day rose, so glad to hear your son walked away aswell. They are amazing cars! Makes you wonder why they don't make more vehicles out of steel rather then Alloy.
Bugger. Glad you and Ash are okay physically. Take care.
Thanks mate 👍been a tough few weeks but we are coming out the other side 😊
Wow mate glad you're all ok!
And on the cruiser, they may be basic but bloody hell to survive that crash without airbags deploying is testament to how strong they're!
Go the all steel beasts...
G'Day mate, thank you 😊
Yes very lucky to be here, the car behind us was a hilux and after we went over the top of him the Hilux hit him, their airbags went off but they got serious injuries. There is no doubt the cruiser saved our life's, any other ute it would have been a different story 😬
@@Off.Track4x4 unbelievable mate, no wonder you went and purchased another straight away.
The faith you have in the cruiser's will be with you to the end!
The problem of vehicles that don't crumple is when they hit something that doesn't crumple the injuries are very significant to the internal bodies, there is an excellent top gear video on the topic
Hey mate do you have a link for the video? I'd love to watch it.
@@Off.Track4x4 I found this one from 5th gear, but I know there is another about 4wd and 4wd
"ua-cam.com/video/YbEa3C2vL7U/v-deo.html"
Glad you guys are ok - Toyota really have a problem with there airbags, I had my Hilux written off in a head on accident a few years ago and the airbags didn’t go off either.
I had a Holden Commodore way back when and the airbag didn't go off in that head on ether. Apparently it's all to do with the location and the amount of airbag sensors they put in. If the sensor doesn't get hit bad enough then the air bags won't go off.
Glad your okay from your crash, it's a horrible event to go through.
And all of a sudden the factory upgrade to 3.5t across the 70 range to avoid latest safety regulations doesn’t seem so appealing. Glad you are all okay
Thank you so much for caring Luke, yeah but dodgy what Toyota has done. But in our case the car definitely saved our life's. They fact they have left it all steel.
Glad you are ok.
Thanks for the support mate 😊👍
Hope they find out why the airbags didn't go off that's not on luck was on your side. Glad you all walked away.
Thanks so much mate, we definitely were very lucky 😁👍🤞
If you have no joy with your insurance company, another possibility is to go to a law firm that specialises in accident repair type claims.
I was in a similar situation where the other party was at fault. It probably didn’t help that we were both insured through the same insurer but they tried to impose a bunch of rules on me that didn’t seem fair. I withdrew my claim and went through a law firm, which was at no cost to me, and it was a game changer. Funny how the other party’s insurer quickly became cooperative. Your local collision repair shop should be able to put you in touch with someone.
Hello David, funny you should email.
I just got in a Fight with QBE insurance as they are charging us excess as they don't have the dead guys name who was at fault,. Yet somehow they know he wasn't insured?? They are not coving our person affects or refunding our 6 months rego.
I will be doing a video soon calling them out.
What law firm did you use?
That's so crazy man. I'm glad you're both ok. Scary stuff man.
Thank you so much for caring 🥰
We are very lucky.
Glad you're ok, sad that someone died. Love the Cruiser colour 👍. Sick of grey n black everywhere.🤮
G'Day mate, thanks means alot! And yes very sad about the young fella dying, one mistake and it cost him his life.
We are loving the Merlot! Can't wait for the tray to go and and reveal it 🙂
FYI - SRS (Air bag) systems measure deceleration as the indicator for deployment, not how "hard"you hit something. The fact you drove over the other vehicle tells me that is the reason for no deployment. Also part of the algorithm for deployment is the system thinking if your going to get more hurt if they do not deploy than if they do deploy. The fact you walked away tells me the system worked as intended.
Peter, I agree I think alot of people see the images and just think with that much damage they should have went off. but alot of our damage came from rolling side ways.
added bullbar effects airbags, dont blame toyota, bars arnt reall designed around bags more looks strenght, tray flying off says it all, Glad you guys are ok
Thanks mate, no one can believe we walked away.
Well I said to the cops looking at the front of the car I'm not so sure they should have went off. bull bar did its job, the engine in the car is 100% fine. Unbelievable for head on at 100kms
@@Off.Track4x4 Yes, if the front wasn't crunched there is no reason to deploy frontal airbags. I guess your vehicle immediately went spinning/rolling when you were hit? This probably saved you a lot of injuries thankfully, dissipating energy in spinning/rolling during a crash is the best way to dissipate it compared to dissipating it straight in front of you in whatever is in your way.
Also for the bull bar being "Toyota" I"m not quite sure "Toyota" (as global Toyota / Toyota Japan) is making a bull bar and wondering if those bars are not something made by the local Toyota Australia under license.
@@Fe_lix it doesn’t have much, if anything to do with anything being “crunched”. Airbags are all about rate of deceleration, not impact. Subtly different.
You could always make the argument that the workmate runs the 225/95R16 which is a 32.8" tyre. The 315/75/R16 (34.6") is 5.5% bigger than the 225.
What I am going to look at for my troopy is the 255/85R16 (33.1") tyres, rather than the 285/75R16 (32.8") which is the same as the standard troopy size.
Just my 2 cents.
Shit I just looked it up! Your not wrong the troopy and workmate both come with some random 7.50 R16 8PR tyres google is telling me it's a 31.8" all most an inch bigger then the GXL. What the fuck!! I'll just remove the GXL badges 😂🤣🤣😂
Good that you are ok 10 yrs back i had headon i wasnt lucky in hospital month my mate past away guy in other car who caused it also. Day by day will have flashbacks i still do. Airbags didnt work cause was more side coped hit think 79 doesnt have side airbags im deatailer clean to both 2021 model they dont have sidebags only to front thats bullshit 78grand out showroom to airbags but it seem take it good sad for guy who pastaway but if they want drive stupid speed on phone not watching rd this happen hes gone but you and your wife have to live with it dont feel quilty didnt do anythink wrong i felt quilt for 3 yrs after in my case was driving vs clubbsport mate who past hes car i doin 80kmh skyline came around corner doin 150 was told he lost it slidd into me that spat me into ditch split skyline in to he was thrown out. But im ok now but im carefull now watching cars coming towards me
G'Day Chad,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mate, can't imagine how much harder it must be to have that happen. Just try to focus on how lucky you were. I believe in when it's your time it's your time, you and I must have more to give 😊
I own a a79 your tyre placard on your door should have 2 types of tyre sizes you can choose either one I thought
Mind is a marks portals Crusier ssm
But my previous 79 dc had both sizes so you can run 285
Whooo you have portals! What's your feedback on them? Worth the money?
Thank you for caring aswell 😊👍
Was the Bull-bar airbag compliant as I’d be checking this first? Thank goodness you both OK and but it will take time and to pass through this whole tragic event
G'Day John, it was a Toyota bull bar, surely they would make it airbag complaint? 🤷
Thank you, making this video helped I knew it would need to be done, and we are getting so much amazing support ☺️
I work for an insurence compnay you can go to afca... and it should come under your contents...Read your PDS as that's the contract. Also have a look around such as RACQ (I don't work for them) if you're not happy with your current insurence compnay.
Thanks mate, I was hoping someone would comment giving us some indication as to how the insurance should work. I would think being we aren't at fault we should be covered for everything as his insurance is paying my insurance.
@@Off.Track4x4 it all depends on the policy but you can make complaints internally they have 5 days to contact you and try and resolve it. Also moving forward read the PDS that's your contract and bible for insurance for anything insurance related. I know it's a pain but long run good for you. You can also claim your PTSD due to that crash etc as well. Good luck and worst case you can go to AFCA
i hope you went out and bought a few lotto tickets after getting out of that mess
Hahahahaha 😂🤣 funny enough we did. Didn't win 👎
Very lucky to be here, thank god we had the car we did.
As a first responder I know the tragic aftermath of an incident like this, very glad you are all good and you can get the help to recover fully.
Thanks mate, I don't know how you guys do it! Once and I'm all messed up in the head.
We are lucky to have people like you push them selfs to look after others.
@@Off.Track4x4Please please never be worried about asking for help sometimes that's hard to do but it really helps. We do.
Thanks mate, work organised free councling for Ash and I, very kind of them and we both have taken it up. Massive help to know what your feeling is normal 🙂
I agree with you, people need to not be afraid to ask for help.
Please note that the rolling radius is NOT half the inflated diameter
- the rolling radius takes account of the "flat" bit on the bottom of the tyre and relates to the revs / km that the tyre does.
Hello John, I'm just going off Queensland transport told me, the ones that make the rules that not even they understand 🤣😂🤣
Seems to be only a few people specifically trained in the 4wd rules. Everyone else just looks for over the top cars. Where it leaves you with insurance?? I have no idea. We just decided to stay a size under to be safe 👍😁
The bigger wheels killed the power so I'd hate to see what 35s would do.
You re 79 didn t fell it was appropriate to deploy airbags...
he went for the " I got this hold my beer moment " ...
They are strong tanks...
Hahahahaha 🤣😂
I just didn't stick the landing
Glad you all are ok, very sad there was a fatality. I know the strength of the 79 would have helped in you guys not having any injuries but can't believe the airbags didn't deploy.
I know you gave the 79 a pat on the back, but airbags not working is a huge negative for the 79, wouldn't buy another until that issue was sorted out, need to know first.
Ive had another car I own not go off ether in a head on, not at this speed though. apparently it's all down to how many sensors they put in. Most only have 1 in the middle, so if it's not a direct front on they won't go off. your safer cars have 3 so if you hit anywhere in the front they go off.
Airbags don’t go off just based on impact. They measure the rate of deceleration mostly. So they recognise that you’ve hit something and are stopping rapidly so therefore deploy. The reason is if your doing a hundred and hit a bird or small roo etc , there is impact but your still moving so you don’t want the airbag going off in that situation. And all these calculations happen in a split second. Glad you all are ok 👍
@@jackthomson73 agree with the impact bird or small roo, but a crash head on with a car, no, they should have deployed period.
probably because of a aftermarket bullbar messes with the sensors causing the airbags not to go off and obviosly a glacing hit not full head on or he would definitely be dead.
@@matsinkal Agree, must be something like that.
I think the "Toyota" bullbars are actually made by ARB anyway I think?
Could be, I don't think any car companies make their own steel bull bars. I know the Alloy ones are made in house. Would be interesting to know who makes the steely
last bullbar handled well? but the airbags didnt go off?
We are thinking that because the bull bar worked so well it must have prevented the airbags from going off. but some people have said they still should have went off? 🤷
@@Off.Track4x4 they definitely should have gone off and you should contact Toyota about that.
Same thing happens with some of the home made 5 posters. No crumple zone can cause fatalities when hitting trees and other cars
I might actually ring Toyota today and get their thoughts, alot of people are interested into why they didn't go off.
We are heading out to the car tomorrow to strip it for parts, I'll take a look at the front and have a chat to the detective assigned to the case.
The more stories I hear about these cruiser’s the more I realise they really are over rated, everything on them seems to need to be upgraded, and now you need to upgrade your airbags because they don’t work in a 100km head on ,wtf
Hahahahaha 😂🤣🤣 yes an airbag upgrade could be a good investment. But na don't be to hard on the cruiser, all the experts said the car being full steal and no alloy panels is what saved us, that and the fact the body of the car sits so high that instead of hitting the car we drove over the top of it.
They have their down sides but also have some huge upsides.
Mine on 780,000 miles stock as a bone no issues
@@Off.Track4x4 potentially driving over the incoming drivers head? Lol
Unfortunately it doesn't just stop with the cruiser it's all Toyota vehicles.
I'll never buy their product again. Basically they were all I've ever bought. The more research you do about Toyota the more you realise they're not worth the money
I'm happy you guys got out ok, in all honesty that's the main thing
@@joeop5104 depends if your a working man or needing them for a purpose then there worth there money every day out lasting 4 Ford rangers on my farm you don’t buy one to look cool 😎 because it’s not about that there work units and that’s it not daily tarmac queens 👸
Sounds like a Diesel
It is a diesel? I don't get it sorry?
The insurance company is not paying because of the mods i reckon
I could be the case if there was any 😂🤣
Stock as a rock 🪨 no lift, no bigger tyres
With the stats and safe car stuff, you should have been doomed in that, but crash testing is not real life crashes...
Yep the 70 series is meant to be a death box on wheels. But in same cases it is safer, I think side on in a 70 you come off 2nd best with no side airbags. But front on they are big with a massive bonnet and motor and shit tone of steel.
Another 79 roll over . Those things are deadly.
Suggest you watch the video before commenting dumb shit!
A young kid drove onto the wrong side of the road and hit us at 100kms an hour. He died, car behind us has a spinal injury and I'm left with a fucked neck. The 79 is the only reason we are alive.
@@Off.Track4x4 dumb shit let's not get personal. I didn't buy a 79 you did . Buddy.
Thank god I did or we wouldn't be standing here today according to every police officer, fire fighter and paramedic that was at the scene.
@@Off.Track4x4 There's always one.
Your clip appeared randomly. After having a look, seeing how well you're both doing was another good example of why people buy Cruisers.
I wouldn't drive anything else.
