59. This song by chance played a lot on my clock radio when the alarm went off in the morning. This will always remind me of getting up for school in jr high.
Same impact on me also! First remember hearing this song riding in my dad’s car late at night as our family was driving back home to Michigan from Ohio. My grandfather had passed and we were in Ohio all week for his funeral. First real experience for me losing someone I cared about and understanding it as I was nine years old at the time. Hearing this song always reminded me of my grandfather and also my dad because I knew how sad he was to lose his father. Amazing how music connects us to life.
My motheroved this song back in 1979. She bought the LP...it was a clear/translucent. She loved Herb Alpert. My mother passed in 2020, and I always think of her when I hear RISE!
I don't ever recall seeing clear LPs, or 45s when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. The only non-black records I saw were 45s for young children that were bright primary colors like red, yellow, blue, etc. Thanks to you now I'm going to have to go googling down the rabbit hole of clear records.... ;-p

My mom used to play this song all the time. Then when I was a teenager I heard it in samples like the Notorious B.I.G, that's when I came to appreciate how beautiful it was! Because it attracted so many then as mature adults, then teens like it, so they started to listen to the original song.
Sounds like you need to broaden your musical appreciation a bit. To understand that musicians have take parts from songs and music since time began. Hip Hop and Rap artists just need beats. Hence the lifted drum loop. If you listened to ELO you will hear the Beatles. If you listen to Emerson Lake and Palmer, you will hear phrases almost lifted wholesale, by Keith Emerson, from practically anything by Dave Brubeck. Particularly Blue Rhonda A La Turk. Just the genetics of music. That’s all it is.
I happen to be old enough to remember where it started. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in what I said. It began by mixing drum breaks on vinyl records. Fairly simple no?
A few years ago I googled Luke and Laura's rape song and I couldn't find anything that came up. As far as humans have come in 2023 I am so glad that I grew up in the 80's. Imagine being bullied online or having people take pictures of every damn thing you do in life? If this rape had occurred in 2023 no doubt there would have been pictures all over the internet and not just a song.
@@stogiedad1Luke and Laura were the hottest couple in daytime at the time. Their wedding was the most watched in daytime history and number 2 in 1981 after Charles and Diana!!!!

Herb Alpert is the only artist in the rock era to have gone to # 1 with both a vocal & instrumental:"This Guy's In Love With You" (1968) & "Rise" (1979)-"Rise" is an awesome instrumental.
What a cool cat Herb is. His music is and always has been incredible. The love between him and Lani is so obvious. "Rise" & "Rotation" (12 mix) caught my attention back then as a DJ - Now they still sound so fresh! Herb`s music always expressed a sort of hedonism you can`t get anymore.. That`s why a little melancholy also flows in his songs.

My mom used to play this song all the time. Then when I was a teenager I heard it in samples like the Notorious B.I.G, that's when I came to appreciate how beautiful it was! Because it attracted so many then as mature adults, then teens like it, so they started to listen to the original song.
Like the unoriginalities of today's and even the 90s music needing to rely on biting other artists work. Lovely song this is.
@@muppetrowlf1473 “hip hop and rap artists just need beats” lol YOU are definitely the one who needs to broaden your musical appreciation.
I happen to be old enough to remember where it started. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in what I said. It began by mixing drum breaks on vinyl records. Fairly simple no?
The Luke and Laura song. 😂😂😂😂 Timeless piece. Never grows old! ❤❤❤
Laura's Rape Song. And yes, this is how I asked for the 45 at Montgomery Ward. And the salesgirl knew exactly what I wanted lol
She recently said she wished she had not done that scene and storyline. All I can say is that it was a product of its time, for better, or worse.
Always loved his music, I'd close my eyes and picture me dancing to this I'm old now but great memories ❤
One of the best instrumentals of all time anyone born in the 70s grew up w this
This Instrumental encapsulates my time growing up in the '70s...It touches my soul with a ghostly haunt whenever I hear it...What an Era!!!...'70 BEST!!!
This song is FANTASTIC. I grew up on this song & it is still one of my favorites in 2021. Herb Alpert you ROCK....

Sampled by biggie smalls " hypnotize"
People in the 60s and 70s have so much passion .❤❤❤Im so fortunate to be a Generation x I was there when this cool music came out
Yes! I’m 48 and fortunate to have grown up with this kind of music! We are the last of a dying breed.
@@tamlynn786I can't stand to think about it I really can't I'm 62 and you're right we are a Dying Breed and don't know if they'll ever be any more of us I don't think so
I hear you on this. I was just entering my teenage years when this came out. Memories.
@@vivianlunsford4052yes music has lost that magic touch! It’s so empty. We are fortunate to be in that era when people expressed the deeper meanings of life through music.
62 and he never gets old. Mom and dad loved Herb l, Mom passed 2021.
63 and ditto! Lots of memories
Im sorry to hear about your mom
Sorry for your loss 🙏. May your mom rest in paradise 🕊️
Same. I'm 62 and dad passed in 2021, mom 2023. Herb was always being played in our house (along with Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66).
I saw Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass at the Allentown Fair when i lived in a Childrens' Home in the 60s. He was there with Perry Como. He gave us a shoutout to the audience.
A old friend of mine from back in the day, Andy Armer wrote this song and Herb recorded it. I went to A&M Record's and watched Herb work on a new album as Andy and Herb's nephew Randy were recording an album in Studio C, the same one used by the Bangle's to record their hits. The years have gone by but the memories are like yesterday. 🎺🎼💽
Cool! 🎵🎼🎶🎵🎼🎶🎺🎺
I love this song to god bless you man

Not much older but I remember this on GH as my grandma always watched her soaps. GH and Young and the Restless were her favorites.

Love Herb and this song! His music is poetry to my ears! Yes he gave The Carpenters a contract and for that I will be forever grateful! Karen's voice is the best thing my ears have ever heard!
Hi it is not a song as there are no words it's a tune

Incredibly talented man, and a great singer as well. His wife’s not too shabby either. Lovely voice!
Sergio Mendes seen her singing at a small place when he was wanting to form a band. She was 19 at the time and living at home. Sergio asked her parents if she could come with him and possibly a few others in the band. Her dad said yes but you call me if there's any problem. She didn't need to and they became the famous and great, Brasil 66.
Herb just gave us all Hearts. Wow.
Ein absoluter Klassiker!
An absolute classic!
Just watch they way she looks at him, even when he isn't looking and him doing the same. I don't know if he reads these or not. But, thank you so much for your gift to the rest of the world Mr Alpert
Wasn’t there a scandal. Didn’t she have an affair

@Charles Ross I hope you find "the one". My husband and I had this. He passed away young, a couple years ago, hurts like heck. I love when she jumps in his arms legs around waist. Same here completely enmeshed. Let her treat you good, baby you-doesn't mean she weak just head over heels. God Bless!!
I love Lani Hall's song Never Say Never Again. The movie of the same? Not so much but her song is awesome as is this one.
@@frankmaiorana66 Lani did a beautiful covar of Eltong John's "Come Down In Time". Like it more than the original, me.
Sounds like the music you would hear in clothing stores back in the 80s......
Great tune, 1 of the best in jazz history!!!!
I hope this video stays around for decades to come.
Few, if any, come close to this level of music perfection.
The man is a musical genius ..Ive known that for 56 yrs.Dont get no better than Mr.Alpert
Truly a masterpiece! I remember this as a kid and when Biggie dropped a verse over it 🤯

Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass was the soundtrack of my Dad and my childhood. Love you 😘
My dad is alive, but I can’t talk to him anymore. As I grew older, I slowly realized he was a sociopath. He was my hero when I was little and music like this rips my heart out.
my dad was a huge herb Alpert fan , from the sixties . r.i.p dad I love you.
My dad too he died today is y I am listening
"Rise" & "Rotation" (12 mix) caught my attention back then as a DJ - Now they still sound so fresh!
Herb`s music always expressed a sort of hedonism you can`t get anymore.. That`s why a little melancholy also flows in his songs.
Nicely said!
Still listening to the genius playing that horn, hells bells who needs lyrics with his kind of talent? NOBODY!?! Mr. Alpert keep rocking it n we'll keep listening.

His life story, is very interesting and he has lived it in a kind, compassionate and generous fashion. GOD bless Herb and his lovely wife
