It didn’t hurt at all that Herb Alpert looked so dishy at this point in his life when he recorded this beautiful Burt Bacharach classic. Great song, wonderful production. All the planets aligned just right for this song.
I had that same childhood. There was at least one of their albums in our house [I think Herb was in an old airplane on the cover]. Our stereo was a piece of furniture and had great sound.
When I was in 6th grade, I listened to my 45 of this constantly, and had a huge crush on Mr. Alpert! And Going Places was the first record album I ever purchased!😉🙏❤️
I was around 14-15 yrs old growing up with Herb Alpert, Burt Bacharach, Sergio Mendes to name a few of course with others like Beatles, Stones, Who, Eagles etc. But Herb, Burt and Sergio will always have that special place in my heart.
I was 14/15 and my Dad had all these albums…..he loved reading the paper after dinner and listening to them. They had just bought a stereo…..it looked like a piece of furniture!
Oh my goodness you are so very right Burt, Sergio, herb, happy vibes and dancing wonderful memories from My childhood I am 64 years old and beautiful songs make me tingle within my soul ma so very happy thank you all of these great artists sharing their gift with me ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤️
Like yesterday. I was ape ____. Over my Junior Prom date May of 68 the same month that song was released. It added to the intensity of my summer crush.
This song was #1 on the day I was born June 24, 1968....I will be 56 in a little over one month. Love Herb Alpert/Burt Bacharach arrangements. Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss co-founded A&M Records. One of their Superstar Couples....The Carpenters. Love this music!🎶❤
Living in beautiful Sydney, Australia in 1968. The Vietnam war was raging. Lots of young Americans and Australians. Beautiful, romantic times despite the tragedy of the war.
Memories of my yesteryear as a 4 year old and my mother holding me in her arms as her big right hand and my small right hand is clasp together as she waltz across the room listening to to this song on the transistor radio, pressure cooker steaming as the aroma of the split peas fill the air .
Fun facts: Alpert is the only artist to have a number 1 Billboard hit as both a vocalist, this song, and an instrumentalist, "Rise", 1979. He is an absolute genius
My wife and I were just married and shared a tatami room at a Japanese Restaurant in Century City. When he and his wife found out we were newlyweds, they went way out of their way to be cordial and inclusive. Class act…and of course we became lifelong fans.
I wondered if one of the reasons this song was a #1 hit in June of 1968 is because Herb Alpert is a good-looking guy. I'm sure it didn't hurt any and it is beautifully arranged and sung by Alpert. One of those songs that sticks in your head too.
One of the loveliest love songs ever penned and recorded-thanks to the talented trio of composer Burt Bacharach, lyricist Hal David and a pleasant surprise-sung as tender as can be by an instrumentalist and record mogul of the highest order-the incomparable Herb Alpert!!! This is one of the most timeless tracks ever to come out of the 1960’s!!!

Am so grateful I was able to see Herb in concert a few years ago, during an outdoor concert in San Diego. It was a beautiful star lit night, with a sold out crowd enjoying all his major hits, including this one! One of my favorites was when the first few notes of "Rise" started... OMG... goosebumps! Great memories! 🤗

Mr. Alpert, what a beautifully rendered song. I am in a particularly stressful situation over which I have little control and see little prospect for change and when i clicked on this I had no idea that the stress would just melt away in the simple beauty of this song and your voice. So glad this popped up on my screen and it will be one of my favorite performances for the rest of my life. It also made me think of my best friend who died two years ago and if she were still alive, i would have called her up and told her to view this because I knew she would be just as transported as i was. Thank you so much. ❤
