One recommendation for hiking, get your gmrs license and carry a gmrs radio with you. Both are inexpensive and if anything should happen you have the ability to contact others. I was a volunteer search and rescue technician for 15 years, and if we were looking for missing hikers we always asked if the missing person carried a radio. That way we could use the standard gmrs frequencies to aid in searching for people. Also, since you carry a backpack with you, never never leave it somewhere. Always keep it with you. When you hit your head, you could have injured yourself and needed items in you pack that you did not have. Take it off and crawl through the narrows, but keep a hold of it. Just my opinions.....
I think she has an iPhone 15 which is why she mentioned sos, since it has a satellite feature so you can reach emergency services even if you have no cell reception.
Don't bother with the GMRS license and just get one anyway. Get a Baofeng UV-5R or 8R, and program in the FRS/GMRS, weather radio, MURS, and HAM radio frequencies. Stay off the HAM frequencies except for emergencies.
@@abc123fhdi true but a backup is never a bad idea!
I have SOS on my iPhone, but a backup could be beneficial.
I agree with never leaving your pack behind for any reason, your life could depend on it. I have been hiking, hunting and fishing in the back country of the rocky mountains for the last 35 years and accidents happen in the blink of an eye. You will need your pack! Be careful and stay safe Sarah.
You're so much fun Sarah. I'm so glad that cousin Nikki introduced us to you!!! Have a lot of fun and be safe!!!
Keep a apple air tag in your car in case you forget one day where your car is at it will help you find it
As I age and get more forgetful, I think this is a GREAT IDEA for anyone. Thanks for sharing!!
100% agree with Dave and my recommendation is to always carry at the very least one trekking pole. These work great for warding off unwanted encounters with critters and reptiles. Can also be used as a make shift splint if needed. Also be sure your first aid kit has a Mylar blanket. This will help keep you warm in case you can’t find your pack and it gets dark and the temp drops. ILove the videos! Keep up the good work :)
Sarah, you're hilarious! "Once you hit 25, it's down hill from there." And the pee/toothbrush cup?! 😅😅😅😅
Pee/tooth brush/food cup 😮🫣 Family just bought her some supplies guaranteed Lol!
I used to work with high school kids, and would say it's all down hill at 21 lol.
Even the birds laughed at that
Why would you need a cup to pee?
surely she said 'tea' cup
Your channel is picking up subscribers pretty quick ! Way to go Sarah !
She may get more subscribers, if she'd get a dog. But she can't call it Camper.
I'm just waiting for the right time! It is a huge responsibility, but definitely one day :)
please get her some more cups Nikki.
😂
This little girl deserves millions & billions subscribers ❤❤❤
agreed
You are absolutely adorable.I love your videos.Keep up the good work.Be safe
Sarah does put a lot of work and effort into her videos for us. She certainly is a breath of fresh air.
Always carry a loud whistle. Regardless of hiking or not. Just to scare off animals and to alert people if you have a fall & lose your phone.
Great idea !
Yes they don't take up much space and you can clip one on the backpack.
Definitely get a whistle and perhaps a few 😊
You should always have a firearm on you or real close by
I have a whistle and a mini airhorn.
Nice pack. You should always carry the 10 Essentials, even on a day hike (food, water, shelter, fire starter, etc... look up the recommended list). You should consider getting a Garmin InReach, or similar, if you don't have one already. You can message for rescue when out of cell service, best for those remote hikes.
That is a really good idea. Thank you for sharing
Each new video is better than the last!
true
25!! Try almost 60! My brain says I'm 25. Everything else says otherwise!! 🤪
Had to pause the video to let you know, when you said, "These look like little poops," I laughed so hard I scared both of my dogs out of a deep snooze. OK, back to the video....
Sarah really has a good sense of humor
Most deaths in the backcountry are from exposure and dehydration so here are few small, and light things, to carry: water treatment pills, Mylar emergency blanket, cheap poncho and have some waterproof, strike anywhere matches. Wet and cold is a combination for an overnight death. Reason for carrying this additional items is you want to be able to survive a night or two just in case. Good luck and have fun!
Thank you for sharing this very good advice
I love how casual and easy you make everything look!
She certainly does
I love watching all your content Sarah you're so inspiring that beautiful smile lights up the world and has impact on people's day, thank you for the great content keep up the good work I wish you and Nikki the best and look forward to upcoming Adventures stay safe take care🫶
She certainly has inspired me.
Love it! Dirty car = lot of adventure !
Your face with the granola bar 😂 Epic!
We love you! Be safe.
Thank you young lady for all the wonderful views, so glad you are keeping yourself safe... I know Nikki has to be so proud of you. You two make this old woman's heart smile. I love watching both of yours adventures... Stay safe and you two enjoy life on your own terms.. Please always remember mistakes/failures is nothing but lessons learned so learn the lesson and keep moving forward. Wishing you both all the best life has to offer... 💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏
And as Nikki always says, "leave no trace" when hiking and camping.
You’re doing great,
Keep up the good work Sarah. Pray you do well wherever you go. You are doing awesome 😁 and we are super proud of You
Enjoyed your video, might I suggest 3 items while your out hiking, a utility knife life a Swiss army knife, a good rechargeable flashlight and last but not least an external battery pack that you use to charge your phone, go pro camera etc. As for hitting 25 and going down hill from there, haha welcome to the club. Travel safe...
and a thermal blanket !
Congrats on wild camping success. As long as the coyotes stay quiet it can be really peaceful. Enjoy!
Love all your video cousin Sarah and Nikki D.! ❤
How beautiful! I'm jealous!
What happened to your jar of peanut butter in your car door? LOL
When I'm outdoors I wear a cotton sailor-style hat. I can fold a bill when I want, or put it up when I don't. It also covers my ears from the sun, and is cooler than baseball caps. It's also better if it starts to rain.
Also, I love a walking stick! Just one for me.
When you left you backpack behind, you also left your first-aid kit and water/food. You could pack an essentials bag inside your backpack (a small backpack inside the backpack) and then left the larger one at the entrance, and the lighter one with water and first-aid kit you'd take with you.
However, its best to take the pack with you so you don't have to double back for it.
I bet you'll get a lot of comments like this about your backpack. LOL
Keep on having fun!
That lake and surrounding area has a lot of history, on your next trip there stop at the visitor center.
Hey Friend,
Suggestion try using a block of ice..it will last way longer. Cheers
“These look like little poops” shu shu lmao 😂. That had me laughing!
Hahaha!
Good Job Sarah
👸🗺🇺🇲🇨🇦🧭🚙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yay, you did it. Great job, I am so proud of you. 😊👏
Your sense of humor is really starting to shine and you are getting more confident in front of the camera Sarah. Nicely done!
She certainly brings a giggle to me every now and then. It is good for ones soul
You’re doing great, Sarah!
I would also get a good tactical flashlight like a Fenix with a SOS/strobe function. If you are injured in a remote place at night, it could help air assets find you. I would also get your Technicians Class Ham license (really easy) and carry a ham walkie-talkie radio with you as well. You can get a Baofeng for less than $100. Also an Airtag for your backpack!
Something else to carry since you use your phone for most of the hike: a power bank to recharge your phone as a backup (a small ish one you can fit in your backpack). Stay safe!
Your adorable. You keep it real. No dog or starting music. Just you ❤
I was definitely singing along! "The krusty krab pizza..."
Hey Sarah! I love your travels. I appreciate you sharing the beautiful scenery. I wish you safe travels and wonderful experiences!❤🙏🏻
For extra protection i'd have a 9mm just in the car. Conceal and carry permit 👍
Especially in California. This state government and policies have become a joke that its not even safe anymore. They can break into your car, rob you, and police wont do anything about it. We can all thank Gascon and Newsom for this. Gun laws in California are a joke as well.
Yes but take classes on gun handling and safety.
Shh let's not talk about that on her channel😊
KT tape, or Leuko Tape works better than any bandaid for blister care, and always worth having in a kit for hiking, aquatabs and a water filter are 2 more must haves....while you may never need one, i always recommend keeping a couple mylar blankets in the kit too...they are super small to pack, but in case of emergency, you can use to stay warm...one to protect from ground cold, another around the body .....personally i always have the water filter and tabs, and a fire starter, and the mylar blankets for shelter/warmth, in addition to a first aid kit on any hike i go....the ability ro source drinking water, stay warm and sheltered should always be on hand...above and beyond any water or food brought....a person could go on about things that are useful...i always pack a rechargeable headlamp, battery bank and never hike without a garmin inreach explorer or in reach mini
This is great advice, thank you for sharing
Sarah, you should get one of those GPS wristwatches, that tracks your movements. I seen ForestyForest use one for when he's hiking in the deep mountains of Canada by himself. The watch provides the ability to follow the path back in your exact steps. So you can never get lost. Plus it connects to satellites so if you need emergency services, it will call them for you. Also girrrrrrrrl you need another cup! dont catch a fever! Thanks I been looking for that intro song for a long time!!
Another good video, Niki better watch out! At 80, I have spent many thousands of nights camping alone in many situations. I have felt uneasy and packed up and moved less than 10 times. But if anybody gives you the least feeling of unease, the least mind you, quietly and unobtrusively leave. Don't worry about doing your usual leave prep, just leave without drawing attention to yourself. It will happen very, very infrequently (10 out of thousands), but when it does, act.
Eating from a can is part of wild camping. Enjoy your great videos and keep safe.
I think block ice lasts longer in the cooler. Love your videos.
I definitely recommend block ice over cubed for the cooler. And keeping it in a sealed bag (same with cubes if you continue to use them) so you don't have to keep emptying out the water and having any food spoil that gets submerged.
Hi Sarah, wow, please don’t get lost. I don’t have any sense of direction. I hope you do. lol. I know this is going to be fun going along with you and Nikki. You both find some beautiful places. Thanks, see you next time.
Comment for the algorithm.,❤ don't let Nikki pressure you into getting a dog.... 😂 😘. Your videos are looking very professional and I see your smile growing as you progress in your journey 💕!!!! your bravery is an inspiration. 🎉 I'm so not adventurous. In my mind I'm very outdoorsy. In reality not so much. You and ND both make me want to try. Keep inspiring ❤
I know the feeling-I rented a Tiger motorhome for a week to check out dispersed camping spots on the dirt roads in the Rockies. The first night was a little strange. No cell service and no one around. But after that I was just loving it. Maybe put a portable battery on your list for your next shopping spree.
when I hike I take a walking stick with me, it can help to stabilize yourself in certain situations and can also help for protection in case you have any problems with wild animals such as coyotes, bob cats, rattle snakes etc...
Make sure to add ancouple tourniquets and some chest seals to your med kit, and make sure to always carry them with you when hiking!
Okay, but those wolf hiking socks are hella cute! I'm the same, only buy things if I really need them. You definitely earned the backpack, hiking shoes and socks though.
Another great video, Sarah 😊 congrats on making it through your night wild camping 🎉
Losing your eating utensil, you sound just like Nikki 🤣
Speaking as someone who just hit 52, and hiked to dark Hollow falls just two weeks ago, PHOOEY on you
😉
Has anyone told you today how cute and smart you are? You should hear that at least every day cause it's true. also please be careful where you leave your backpack in the open. You don't want to find out something crawled inside. You're Awesome. Stay safe.
Just also watched your stint with 'Cuz Nikki. Awesome! 👌♥️🇵🇭
Buy a big plastic refillable jug like they sell at truckstops. That can be your emergency wee cup and make sure it has a lid. You can empty it in the toilets when you hit a rest area and wash it out. Trucker hint as I've had to sleep in many places with no bathroom access and it has saved me from squatting at places behind a bush numerous times. It can truly suck for females in the industry so you have to be creative and every female driver I trained always got quality of life tips to help them along.
Wow the water the rocks the view the jurney , adorable and beautiful . Also the stuff i wrote first lol
Hey Sarah! a beautiful backdrop scene of the snow on the mountains with you in the hot springs was clear for the most part! Shooshoo😂 thank you so much for sharing of how you let friends and family know exactly where your at.❤ sunscreen is so important👍nice views with cirrus and cumulous clouds.. crusty crab pizza!😋😂 oh I like the bubble rocks! Your personality is the best, I like the tripod drop and you fast motioned for the best shot! You hit your head to hard but you captioned it!😂 glad u found the spoon! The food looks healthy👍we had aurora lights pretty far south! We have the solar maximum through 2025 ,so you might see them I hope!! I heard Even downtown Chicago with all the light pollution was still visable! Thank you for the video! Traveling mercies with health and saftey,,God bless you🌌🌌🌎🏜🏖🌄🦅🦉🌹🥰
Things you might want to add to your list of hiking essentials are a lighter, Knife ( I recommend at least a Leatherman plier multiool with a sharp blade... good for glove box as well as hiking) and a distress whistle.
Those multi tool things are really handy to have
And a .45
@Bennett-zg3oz Why not? Sounds good to me! If it's possible to pack, it wouldn't be a bad idea, especially in today's world. There are many wackos that gravitate to these off the beaten path places, and they don't always have good intentions. Nice people like Sarah or her cousin Nikki holding a .45 could make them behave themselves! 👍
Like I told your cousin, don't go into canyons when there are clouds in the sky. You run the risk of getting caught in a flash flood. Love the video though. Glad you were able to make it through the night. Hope to see more.
You are an inspiration! you are doing a GREAT job on your videos! A lot of great tips, too!
You did it! So proud of you! Knew you could do it...
You might consider putting an Airtag in your backpack in case you ever really lose it. It would require you having your phone with you and having cell service in order to find it but I suspect that you usually will have cell service where you are hiking. I have AirTags stashed in most of my serious gear.
Like you (9:25), I'm soon to hit 25....well....back in 1985, that is!! Been watching your vids a while now, and just hit that button! Keep up the fun!!
Congrats, Cutie! You did it! Not sure you should have dumped your backpack to explore the fissures cause that is when you might have needed your first aid kit. You are getting more comfortable with the camera and your videos are great.
To borrow the quote from little seven-year-old snowboarder sensation Cashy Rowley “Keep Doing It Scared!” I feel for you doing this adventure all by yourself. Stay safe! Keep sharing this wonderful content and you will soon be in a nice RV like your cousin. You too will soon be staring down a million subscribers.
Great video....I usually take a portable charger on my hikes!
Sarah, I know that spray-on sunscreen is convenient, but it’s also almost completely useless! I’m 75 years old and can’t reache everywhere anymore, so I use a loofah backscrubber, the strip style with rope handles, to apply my sunscreen lotion. It only took getting burned once at the beach to teach me that the sprays DO NOT WORK!!!
When it comes to safety. I depend on my self! When telling a friend, your depending on them. If they don't hear from you, they might wait, to call for help! Personal safety is my first concern. My first line of defense is non-lethal OC spray followed by a pistol with reload & a hand held light! My ladt line is a folder knife! I also use common sense & practice situational awarness! When hiking use a strong stick, I like a quarter staff!
FYI: the average clothing is only SPF 15, so unless you are wearing clothing that is made for sun protection, put some sunscreen on all over, especially in Death Valley.
Very nice! Love your videos. It is nice that your viewers make suggestions. We live and hike in the Pacific Northwest. We have Moose, Deer and an occasional Bear in my yard. When hiking we always carry Bear Spray on our belt or attached to our backpacks.
When I was going to college in California, I always carried a Rattlesnake bite kit. I ran into several Rattlesnakes while hiking. Glad I had a kit just in case.
I visited your Amazon store. Very nice. Please, keep up the wonderful work. So, glad you are being safe.
You're sounding a lot more confident nowadays Sarah, and the video work is good 👍 Be safe 👌 Andy
Some extra Bandaids, or a small first aid kit with the essentials are always good for hikes. I also always carry an Ankle Brace because I have a bad ankle, and you can never be too safe. You also never know when you or someone else may need it.
Why do I feel like you're talking to me oh yeah it's cuz I do carry ankle braces and first aid kits
@@FallenMuse81 haha glad to know I'm not the only one
Corn and Beans! ❤Add some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper - voila! Ate this every other day for years. 👌🤤
You’re such an Inspiration ❤❤❤
You need to get a dog for hiking, their senses are much better than ours and can alert you to things you might not know are there, my previous dog once alerted me to a black bear, luckily it did its thing and went about it’s life without an interaction too close to me and my current dog alerted me to a cougar that I would have never known and actually the only trace I seen of it were it’s tracks but the pup started tracking a scent and actually took me direct to the physical tracks where I was able to identify what she was after.
Very enjoyable video.
It's clear whom your mentor is!
I wouldn’t camp off-grid by myself, so you’re ahead of me 😊
Enjoying your content!!
Like your video and the detailed list of how to be prepared for things going wrong when hiking. I live in Colorado and rarely go hiking in the mountains alone unless there are enough other people nearby.....mountain lions are my main concern. Like the personality you add....the quick song bites....the playfulness....and of course, the great scenery. Blessings to you! Keep the good videos going!
Canned beans and canned corn.. lol.. Have been there several times myself . You've got this girl.
Each video you produce you’re getting more comfortable. Keep it up love your adventures.
Put your ice in 1 gallon zip-lock bag so when it melts you have drinkable water.
Good job sticking it out!
trekking poles might be helpful for the knee. I always hike with them, and they have saved me from several tumbles and sprained ankles.
Love your videos, Sarah! So fun!
Sarah might be time to invest in a jackery power source and a refrigerator cooler for food. Also some basic camping cooking stuff and you could at least have hot beans and corn next go round.
I want pizza now.Wait till 50+ if you think it's downhill now.A small propane Coleman stove or similar may make a big difference in your beans and corn dinners.Snow packed mountains in the background of the desert, nice shots.
Looking spectacular at always. Safe travels!
Congratulations on overcoming the fear! I really enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing your adventures!
Beautiful scenery
Keep at it! Your vids are getting better and better!!
Thank you for posting this! I am going to Yellowstone/tetons by myself for the first time. Camping. Trying ti not be scared and chicken out, but I appreciate your perspective. Relatable and inspiring!
Keep thriving Toyota sister!
Good job, you're doing everything right. Good luck and have fun.
I Love your content and your cousin Nikki’s too! You’re both one of a kind… ❤️ 🤗 🌹
You need a compass and they make phone cases that have a little backup battery charger for your phone. Since you use your phone to film you really should have a way of charging the phone so you have as much battery life as possible just incase you lose reception for hours and hours. They also make little hand cranks that you can use to manually charge your phone.
12:20 I am so proud of you. That's pretty much what I ate in college along with carrying around a bottle of olive oil and jar of peanut butter. :D
2:22 wow that sky view was Awesome! Sarah really enjoying your channel, you have a softer approach, not that Nikki is aggressive but she is loud lol! in a good way
Hi! At the beginning of the video, when all you see is the hand, remote, and the back door opening and showing the million dollar view, could be your opening scene for every video! Maybe put your name in front of the window, and slow fade it out to the show the view! That would be your awesome opening!
Hey, I had canned beans and corn for dinner too! You're my hobo kindred spirit. #TeamBerkowitz
