How complicated is your setup ?
Zeos: yes
LOL

For everyone who didn't watch the stream.. Yes he went insane on the stream
Insane how lol
Glad you're starting to look at room correction stuff. I only use the basic version of Dirac in my living room and it makes a huge difference.
Redoing my setup every now and then is one of my favorite parts about this "hobby."
Normally I don’t put too much stock in sound demo because UA-cam and loss and compression and all that. But, when I heard that first song play, I actually noticed a large sound improvement from your other videos. I just got some tin t2’s and I’ve been testing them a bit on your sound demo videos and now this video. It’s kind of insane. And you’re not even using your nice mics for this vid! Thumbs up Zeos! Just another video to prove you know your shit.
149K subs, come on guys, chip in a couple bucks! No one is asking you to drop a lot, if y'all just throw some spare change the goal will be made easily. If you have ever been entertained, reaped the rewards of good advice and downloaded a few wallpapers, then throw in.
He needs to change the way he films. The reason I believe his sub count is low is due to the camera shake. Many people cannot watch videos with a lot of camera shake. I refuse to help someone that is not willing to help first. He needs some sort of gimbal.
@@Lex-Rex I like how you appropriate "others" and what you think, they are thinking, as a reason to not do something, related to a standard you think others should share. All of which has exactly diddly squat to do with my comment.
It's like Inception Strawman or something.
@@Berserkism I am not going to chip in for a moron that refuses to make his content better. You are a fool. Leave me.
@@Lex-Rex I help like 100,000 people with audio. The videos are what they are. I get only a handful of complaints
@@Lex-Rex your criticism is idiotic and supported by literally no one else I've heard. People always comment about how the head cam is part of the whole personality of the way he does things.
If you're already saying that "he is a moron" that makes shit videos, then you must be a next level dumbass to keep watching his videos and bitch about something literally no one else cares about.
Fuck off.
Zeos explanation and description of his upgrade pushed my brain processing to 100%. I barely could keep up!! But after a careful listen I have a reasonable understanding. Thanks for the details Zeos. All the real audiophiles solute you!
The only issue with this setup is that bit depth within the digital signal is lost when the volume on the PC or minidsp(if that’s possible?) Is reduced below 100%. This could lead to audible issues at lower levels in quiet rooms. The issue can be mitigated somewhat by setting the bit depth of the PC digital out(up sampling sources at a lower bit rate than this) as high as it will go(and not above that supported by other digital devices downstream from the PC).
Another diabolical audio scientist enters the discussion. Amazing.
You are a mad genius. Great setup.
That HDMI minidsp can work. Just use one hdmi out from your video card straight to the tv for a 4K signal. Then use another hdmi out from your motherboard or video card to the minidsp. set it up as a second monitor and use that as your pc's audio device.
No HDMI out from mobo and most dont push audio unless there is video
@@ZReviews The minidsp should output video. You could run the output of the receiver/processor to a separate input on the tv if needed. the extended monitor can be low res and moved off to the side in windows. I have done this with several receivers to get a 4k 60hz signal to a tv and lossless audio to a surround receiver. This is useful when your receiver doesn't have hdmi 2.0. A displayport to hdmi cable will also work. It's worth a try.
@@roger_985 Hrm. I may give that a shot. Thanks
short version: you got a better DAC?
isn't Coelho spanish for 'rectum' ?
Michael Coelho That and a path of lesser resistance.
It's not the what... It's the how..
@@morrimoto I'm pretty sure if 'douchebag' was an actual language you wouldn't have to ask
What is the "VU"? It is Steaming > Nano Digi > 2 x amps > speakers + sub. Can someone "draw" this...
Chewbacca the soft
Is that the new fromsoftware game boss?
OK, that introduction is definitely perfection.
Zeos! Thank you for this video and making me aware of the Nanodigi. I'm so excited to incorporate it into my system!
Unfortunately, my nanodigi sucks. Suffers digital distortion in the form of crackling sounds at low volume scenes. Unacceptable. The minidsp hd has been great for tuning my subs though.
Hi! I just watched this video and got very inspired! But how do you adjust the volume? Do you have a variable coax out on your receiver?
He said it best folks buy a new av receiver. I'd love to see him review a thousand dollar reciever with audio outside vs this setup.
Would love to have you test the mini dsp dac in place of the JDS with the short analog run. Wondering how much is RCA length vs DAC quality
Hrmm. Good test
Z Reviews any conclusion on this?
Now that everything is completed and you spent 9 hours hooking it all up, you should do a sound demo of before and after. ;)
Thanks Zeos for the the explanation, very entretaining the tour of the new setup. If you can you should get a Okto DAC8 8Ch DAC to review, would be nice to see how you compare it with your current minidsp.
Z fell in love with his speakers all over again. Adorable!
kinda new to channel. didn't know you ran the minidsp stuff. about 6 years ago i bought the 2x4 and it's one of my favorite things i own.
for about 2 or 3 years, i tried regular eq, different tops, different sub configurations and in the end i was never truly satisfied with the result. i then found out abotu minidsp and ordered one.
after setting up everything with the measurement mic and the minidsp, i can honestly say that it should be mandatory for anyone that actually wants a good audio setup (because even if you spend $2000 on speakers, they'll still suck if you have a +/-15db boost/null from room reflections). considering that even tried running my home set up with a full pro audio 31 band eq along with crossover, yet the $80 minidsp did a much better job of running my system, it is bargain for what it provides.
the cherry on top is the the support from REW which makes setting it up so much easier. and not only that, but i learned a few years back that they now have the software with can add compression which i had been wanting to add to my system because, let's be honest, sometimes when you just want to listen to classical while doing other stuff, those exaggerated dynamics are stupid. but i've been lazy and don't want to have to re-setup my whole room eq, but hey the option is there
I just bought a dozen pigeons, could you please open your window next Tuesday before noon? Thanks 😋
Pigeons 🤪🤪🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I have been considering adding a minidsp to my setup for bass mgmt, so I watched the original minidsp review and now this again. I think what is insane about all this is that if Zeos would simply install those Crown amps in his rack, you would eliminate the crazy need for having fiber and dual DAC action going on. Running 20+ feet decent gauge speaker wire is no big deal.
What bothers me about this video now though, is that in the first one, the DACs in the minidsp were supposedly awesome, and now what are we to believe? Those DACs are lame and what you really should do is get the minidsp digi and yet another separate DAC? WTF. Zeos - you're killing me.
Oh Finally. I was beginning to wonder if you are ever going to do such videos. Sorry, am not a Headphones, IEM, Desktop something person. Such videos, even one such Video a week would make a lot of us happy.
Maybe I missed it but what are you using for a master clock for multiple dacs? It is crucial that the dacs are synced to each other. If not, the output will sound different, sometimes even creating a false sense of separation
Magic
Nice the Kriss Vector.
okay, but are you controlling the volume for all of this digitally? this is the main thing i am confused about. are you basically using the nanodigi as a preamp?
Zeos, I really need room correction in my small listening room. But I still want to use the internal dac of my Parasound Halo integrated ( digital inputs: Spdif / digi coax / USB
So I need a affordable minidsp with digital output.
Is the Nanodigi my solution ?
To what extent can room correction account for the low end mess caused by large monitors in a small room. I have a pair of large monitors with 8" woofers that can hit below 40Hz but they are often unwieldy in my bedroom. Would a calibrated Mic, REW, and a miniDSP HD be a good approach?
I’d be interested to see how this compares to a flagship marantz receiver or balanced prepro and monoblock amps.
of all the purchases I've made based off Z's videos, the tire brush for my cat has been the best investment
Damn! Thats too much for me to handle. Ill stick to my integrated amp, 2 speaker setup.
ya it is nuts but as a speaker reviewer it makes sense
as to why he has it this way
I don't think running DAC's in "monoblock mode" is a good idea. You want to have the same clock for all channels.
True
I would have tried to get it a bit less complicated. And run only balanced analogue or balanced digital cables from the rack to the amplifiers. I don't know how to to it. But I guess that you might end up with a less complicated system. But you have a quite interesting setup.
minidsp hdmi one should be connected to Audio Return Channel
of Receiver. It doesnt need to pass 4k. Then you need to connect output HDMI to a multichannel DAC that supports HDMI or use analog output of minidsp.
It doesnt have hdmi out
Shane B minidsp has several products. look NanoAvr or anything in home theater series.
I would suggest an air gap, a shelf or isolation risers to keep your subs from shaking loose the solder joints in the amps and DACs.
Just hookup your tascam pre's to a MiniDSP DDRC-88A use Dirac Live dsp on your entire surround setup. And use XLR cables to your monoblocked crowns at the front. It worked nicely for me processing wise when hooking up my HDMI Essence One DAC with 8 Analog outputs for 7.1 channel surround.
Welcome to starting your high end journey with what good dacs can do. Trust me it can get even better than where your at😀 jds labs is just the start of the never ending rabbit hole😀
Hi Z, Have you tried the room correction already?
Ever interested in reviewing Lyngdorf stuff? Evidently, they basically tout the same kind of design: digital all the way to the speakers, which do the DAC themselves.
Bravo, Zeus. It sounds great even through my hp.
Damn I could tell the difference through the net. More separation. Sounds awesome.
While I thank you it's filmed in mono sooooo.....
@@ZReviews Ya u mentioned it before, but i can hear the diff. it sounds sharper, more defined, not ruling out my hearing bias though.
So what your saying is that a dsp to 2 x dac's + shorter rca / xlr cables = better sound?
ya the signal degrades the longer it gets, with speaker wire you can compensate by getting thicker wire hence why a lot of people prefer short RCA long speaker wire
that goddam sound.... wow. Limiting analog signal runs, dedicated dac to amps. Like peeling another layer or layers of curtain/veil to sound reproduction. Now, I wanna hear RE-Reviews of your speakers. Videos of before and after sound demos.... waiting mode:ON
@Z Reviews
I need your help... I am currently using M-Audio AV30's and looking for a upgrade, I have it down to the following 3:
- JBL 305P MKII
- Swans M200MKII
- Adam T5V
I can't decide, HALP PLAS!
How about using a dac with spdif output? for the minidsp2x4hd should that not be better than using the spdif from a pc. I have a audiolab M mini dac (not using it now) but that would be better than nothing right?
Did you say the nanoDIGI can't do room correction with the UMIK-1? I'm confused because they ask on the page for this product if you want to add a UMIK-1 to your purchase.
Fucking hell that swordfish art over tv is glorious.
ua-cam.com/video/x-QWpxM25WQ/v-deo.html
You should really try JRIVERm you could get 7.1 decoding for all the latest codecs on your PC, and then just route your output to the nanoDigi, and eliminate entirely that home theater receiver.
So the volume control is in Foobar? Or the nanoDIGI?
Foobar. No visual feedback kills the nanodigi as a real option. Plus, since both options are digital and in 24bit it should make nearly no difference as the analog voltage output is fixed all the way down.
Hey Z! Sivga also makes IEMs. The M001-M008 are like $20-35 (normally I wouldn't bother, but they are known for price/performance ratio). They also have SM001-SM003 for $100-135. Then they have the SW001, which are $190 but look like the SM line with a wood body instead of metal. I'd love your thoughts on any of these!
You said that you don't have a center speaker. Isn't the center speaker where the dialog is most optimally heard in a surround sound setup? The center speaker is very important as it reproduces most of the dialogue in a movie.
Some may argue that it's the most important speaker for movies, gaming, and general TV viewing. BTW, thanks for your headphones reviews. I bought a pair of Neumann's for my music studio and my Moogs and Prophets never sounded better to my ears. :)
Could you have run the analog signal to the old mini DSP? Also, can you please do a video on how to set up Dirac live using the Mini DSP. I have a Marantz prepro in my home theater, and would love to see how Dirac improves the sound.
Z ya need the outlaw audio 976 balanced receiver I'd love to see your take on it especially what you think of its panorama eq
this one has been on my watch list for a while since I run active speaker and xlr is a must; Do you own it? what are your thoughts?
the first notable between my old onkyo 809 is louder and more balanced signal output from the preouts via the xlr verses the old rca where my old receiver volume output signal to my amps was - 6db on fronts - 4db on center and - 8db on surrounds 0db on my subwoofers, all amp gains at 50% gave a good output for movies an OK for live TV but with the 976 the movies are hammering an live TV is great minus the damn ads but I'd rather not drone on in a UA-cam review
@@07wrxtr1 I'd suggest you buy an pair it with 4 xls 1502 crown amps an some 98db speakers if that's your thing my setup is 7.1 surround sound with 8in 98db drivers an two 15in custom built subwoofers with dual 15in rads driven by a xls 2502 crown amp an all my media though nvidia shield with my previous receiver an config I had to crank volume to - 20 to - 15db for blu-ray video an Netflix - 10db but paired with the 976 an with previous amp config my volume output is richer live TV is good at - 45db - 40db blu-ray video - 30db to - 25db an streaming video Netflix Amazon video - 20db-15db all louder without having to crank as much that's good
@@DREDKNOT2063 I'm lost on why Outlaw audio does not get more attention? Why? I'm going conspiracy theory on this one. To me it's the only viable solution unless you go higher cost with say a full prepro from yamaha or marantz. RCA outs are pure retardation, as having gone from those to an Emotiva DC-1 just for a simple 2.2 system, I'm fairly happy, but I do want more control of the SVS pair of subs (I only have rca outs as an option for those on the Emotiva however); So in looking elsewhere, Outlaw Audio is one of the few solutions I can run a single optical out from my computer, to the outlaw, and then have 7 channels of Balanced outs. Now it'll be interesting to see how/or if it's even possible to get 7.1/7.2 decoding while running blu ray and other content strictly through the PC? I've heard issues with Windows 10, but I'm trying to just do everything with this setup rather than being forced to buy a separate BR player/tv and all that crap since it's just a small room I use.
Could you please tell me how can I connect nanoDIGI to 2x4hd
? I want to use 2x4hd as DAC for my subwoofer. Thanks in advance
How do you control the volume ? Digital control? Does it affect the dynamic range ? BTW awsome vid very usefull ! Thank you
Can you give us links to some of these (magical) aDACs we keep hearing so much about?
did you ever do the separate channel dacs + headphone amp experiment?
Did you get to do what you wanted at rocky mountain
What I’m shocked about is a Klipsch sub where the Rythmik belongs. I hope that’s not permanent. You’ve had the Rythmik for so long I figured it was my go to sub when I’m ready to replace my f12.
LVcichlids rhythmik has been in his side room for a while now
I Gotta Work
this is exactly what I concern for feeding my many DACs setup..
but I'm still hesitating which one I would choose,
miniDSP nanoDIGI ? or RME Digiface USB?
yeah I know, second one is way more expensive and difference of EQ ability... but toslink to toslink
Chewbacca 0:01 ❤
How is it that you have neighbors that allow you to pump that much sound from your place? Do you own the whole block there in Hollywood?
That's the kicker, (as he's said in other vids) he doesn't really have neighbors. He's in some old brick building in Philly, in an upstairs apartment above some store in a retail district. So he can't crank during the day when the store(s) is/are open, but he can at night.
Is there a such thing as a Dolby Surround Processor or a DTS Surround Processor?
do you have the link to the 9hr livestream? link pls....
I don't know how you can get 8 discrete surround channels passed from your PC through the nanoDigi which is 2x8, which basically makes it possible to take a stereo channel and break it into 4 distinct channels. In other words, this will not pass a 7.1 channel LPCM over either spidf or toslink.
Your crazy and I love it
He's certainly not right and it's certainly fun. :)
So are you using the nano digi mini DSP for just bass management?
All management
all the problem you had with the signal loss it was y years ago when I was running a triumph set up I guess all of my source amplifiers crossovers and everything close together and completely killed it from my power supplies I would have rather run longer speaker cables than signal cables
Never realized how great these crown amps are until I tried my 1002(sub amp) with my main L+R speakers, honestly outstanding compared to either of my class A amps.
It doesn't mean that the crown is so good. It just mean that your class A amp is too weak for your speakers. There are plenty of very good high end amplifiers out there. But it costs a lot. The crown is a cheap way to get enough power to speakers so you get headroom. Which is vital for the music to come alive. If you have a too weak amp, then the bass will be bloaty, and the midrange will be narrow. And the treble will just sound harsh.
by the way I have just ordered a crown xls 1502 so I have a working power amp to play in the new dynaudio evoke 50 speakers that is soon coming. I have now an Electrocompaniet amp that is distorting in one channel, and I don't want to risk my new speakers. I'm probably going for some kind of Hegel amplifier as a permanent solution.
@@oysteinsoreide4323 oh, no. it's definitely not a weak amp pushing 200wpc vs 215wpc @8ohm. It's not a matter of power at all.
@@testtest-ol3yi You have a 200 Watt class A amp? That's insanely powerful.
@@oysteinsoreide4323 Yes, and the crown still sounds better.
What about the NEW Minidsp SHD ???
Christian Kästle I agree, pretty sure the new SHD would do the job beautifully. It’s on my short list to replace my 2x4 HD and my preamp.
@@SpencerPPyne
I would love to use it this way, too.
I also have no clue how Z controlls the volume, as volume control before dac coversion is not the way to do it without messing up the signal.
Keep in mind he streamed for noine hours!
What about just buying the outlaw audio decoder with xlr outputs
I got the outlaw audio 976 and it great they need youtube reviews for that receiver
You gunna do a sound demo of this step up? I'd love to see that!
All Future sound demos will be. I have several filmed on the old setup still waiting release tho. So look for the clean wires adn the new dacs
YES, keep going along these lines, expand on it, keep in mind, not everyone's application is the same as yours,... well sort of not... BUT, keep going, swiss army knife type THINGS are COOL, and, useful, we NEED to know the ones that are quality, and, the ones that are CRAP. For the cat I recommend the Flowbee Haircutting System cause it's hot out there
next step would be to at least try a new avr...maybe a review of nad with dirac live or emotiva or whoever just to see if it matters.

Any chance of sourcing/reviewing the linsoul Thieaudio phantom planar magnetic headphones? About £300 (unsure as to what they sell for on Amazon US) 101mm driver.
Just checked and they’re currently $400 US.
Can you save EQ presets on this or do you always have tocbe plugged in to a computer?
you only need to connect to a computer when updating the settings
I used to have a Yamaha reciever that had an optical output, unfortunately my new one doesn't do it anymore. In fact my new one does fuck all apart from the bare minimum because it was cheap :(

I believe the minidsp HD has I2S inside, running I2S from a PCI-E card would’ve probably killed that usb noise.
I think only the 2x4 has I2S
