I love it when foreigners try to explore less popular areas in Bangkok. They may not be as luxurious as downtown, but you'll find secret gems in those areas
100% Agree! There are so much more to Bangkok than what people realize. We’re definitely on a mission to keep exploring and finding these hidden gems 💎😁 Thank you so very much for the love and support! 🥰🫰❤️🙏
My daughter was born in Denver and raised in the u.s every time she went back to Thailand .my sister and my niece took her out in Bangkok when she tired to spoke in thai language a lot of Thai people they said so cute i think so many Thai people when they know some ones doesn't look like thai . when they tried to speak thai they always love to help them out how to say in thai. Correctly.
That’s so nice! Glad to hear they’re so understanding. Not a lot of country people are as kind and understanding. That’s very comforting. Thank you for sharing 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Emmm let see.. - Farang ~ I think it refer to the westerner. - Khaek ~ refer to Indian or country near by like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc. as well as the middle east people. - Asia ~ refer to all the asian looking people incase we don't know where they came from. If we know then we usually call them by their country name. For ex. Chinese ~ khon cin/jeen, Japanese~ khon Yipun etc. I hope that help. 😊 And about Anthony quesion. I can't answer for all Thai but from my experience Thai people don't judge whether you can speak Thai or not. I mean even if you are Thai that live abroad and can't speak Thai. If you try to speak Thai to Thai people, they will find you adorable and admire that you are trying or will even try to teach you some words if they can. So don't worry guy. We don't judge at all.
Thanks for the detailed explanation!! Very helpful! 😊👍 and it really sounds like Thai people are very understanding and opened minded! We find that very cool!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
@@ChovyTravel Don't worry guys, Thai people don't judge anyone who cannot speak Thai even they are Thai or mixed race, we also treat them as our people and we're more than happy to help and teach them some Thai words just the same as we help foreigner.😊
My personal opinion, being a Thai person Culture teaches us to be good people. And Thailand has been accepting tourists from around the world for a long time. Therefore, we will be open to accepting and understanding this difference because they did not grow up in Thailand. For Thai people who grew up abroad and can speak a little Thai. If they don't tell us, we might not know because Asian people look similar. We may think them as tourists. In conclusion, it depends on how those people behave. Normally, Thai people like polite people. If you are nice to us we did good things in return.
Hi Anthony and Caroline! I was born in Bangkok but grew up in SoCal since the age of 2. I speak Thai brokenly and with an American accent. No one has ever judge me for not being fluent. More often, Thai people would practice their English with me because they don’t meet too many foreigners. One thing that does bother me is when I get treated better because Thai people see me as a foreigner, not as Thai person. I don’t like the attention and prefer to blend in like a local Thai. When I’m in Thailand I want to be Thai, not American.
Thanks for nice clip as always! 😊🎉 Most Thai people are kind-hearted and like to help those who are in difficult situations without any discrimination based on race. We live in a society like siblings or family. Especially if they know that you are Thai but cannot speak, read, or write Thai, I am confident that 100% of Thai people will help you as much as they can.❤
Absolutely our pleasure! That’s great to hear and very true! We recently had someone help us when we were struggling. Editing that video right now 😅. That’s very comforting to hear, I’m sure for a lot of people 😃
At most, Thais might be confused to see a Thai person who can’t speak Thai. But I don’t think anyone would act harshly on it. About the term “Farang,” what can i add from other comments is: it’s used pretty loosely. While it usually refers to Caucasians, if someone from another race is from a Western country like the US or Europe, they might still get called Farang. For example, someone might call Anthony "Farang" , but it’s probably just to highlight your nationality after noting that you're Korean. Sometimes, it’s even used to poke fun at Thais who have lived abroad. **Tip:** Any restaurant that got Wongnai User’s Choice award is must visit. It's always good, much better than Michelin's. 🤤
That’s cool! Icic! Thank you for letting us know. We do hear Farang a lot but not necessarily directed towards us. At least we don’t think 😅 Really!? We have seen Wongnai. Thank you for the Tip! That’s so helpful 🥰
Hi ! I'm Thai. Regarding "Farang" , this word is called for Western people, Thais call foreigners Farang because most of the foreigners who first came to Thailand were from France. The French first came to Thailand in the Ayutthaya period, during the time when King Narai the Great was trading with France. The French came to spread Christianity and Western culture in Thailand. Thais therefore called the French "Farang" and called foreigners who looked like the French "Farang" as well. Nowadays, Thais call foreigners Farang in general, not limited to those from France. Foreigners from Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand are all called "Farang" in Thailand. The word "Farang" is an informal word, but it is commonly used in everyday life.
The first westerner that came to Siam (now Thailand) during Ayutthaya period was Portuguese, not France. There were Persian who work for the Siam king, so it’s possible that the term ‘farang’ was from them. The Arab trader call white men as ‘farangji’ because the first crusaders that invade them are franks from France.
The word "Farang" is generally believed to have derived from the Persian word "Farang" or "Farangi," which referred to Europeans, particularly those from Western Europe. This Persian word, in turn, originates from the Arabic "Ifranj," which referred to the Franks, a Germanic tribe that formed part of what is now France. The Franks were one of the earliest European groups that came into contact with the Middle East and Asia, and the term "Farang" was used broadly to refer to Western Europeans. When Thailand first came into contact with Europeans (beginning with the Portuguese in the 16th century and later other Western powers), the term "Farang" was adapted into the Thai language. It became a generic term for all Europeans, not just the French, though it may have been influenced by the fact that the Franks were closely associated with France in European history.
I love watching your vlogs and the way you've reviewed foods, places etc. about Thailand. Thais love going to all you can eat places. Have you found your favorite Korean BBQ buffet in Bangkok yet? Your review on Korean bbq buffets here would be much interesting.

@@ChovyTravelCarrefour is a french supermarket chain there used to be around 60 Carrefour in Thailand but the business was sold to Big C (more than 10years ago) and they changed every single one of them and rebranded Big C Extra, thats why Big C extra is always bigger than the regular Big C.
1:20 Actually, I don't recommend you guys eat at Suki Teenoi for the Taste only, because the Number 1 reason that they're famous is the Worthiness at the price. ( I mean the taste is Okay, it's a decent choice for this kind of restaurant. ) Beside that, you guys could know how Sukiyaki or Shabu-shabu gonna be like. It's depend on how Quality the stuffs are, they don't need chefs because you're the one who cook. Ha ha And because of the long queue, Sometime I will go to eat after the Midnight, at the branch which Far... from the city. 14:09 Yes, "Farang" came from "Foreigner" ( or it also could be from "France" ) , but it usually refer to the White People only, ( mostly Europeans before some of they move to America. ) Because around 200-300 years ago, there are European Boatman came to this area for Explorer or Trading. At that time the White People didn't look familiar to us. unlike the Asian people or Middle East people who already have been contact before. So... there become the word to call this kind of person, and it's a neutral word, nothing negative.
The garlic pork, spicy chicken and Somtum looks so yummy. Btw, I heard from many Koreans in YT that there're the popular Korean Restaurants called "Dong E" and "Jang Won BBQ", both located in Korean Town at Sukhumvit 12. Jang Won BBQ is the first Korean Restaurant in the area for about 30 yrs. So if you miss Korea or crave for Korean foods you need to go to Korean Town since there're many restaurants, shops and Supermarket that sell korean products in this mall.
They were amazing! 🤤😁 Have you ever been to those restaurants? We’re very picky with Korean food so we would definitely need to look at the food first 😅. Thank you for the recommendation 😉❤️🫰🙏
@@ChovyTravel Not yet, but I read lots of good reviews of this restaurant from both Thai and Korean. I recommend Dong E to you because I saw a video of Korean girl took her parents to eat at Dong E. They all said it's delicious and some dishes even yummy than in Korea. If you never try, you'll never know. 😊❤️ ✌️
Really!? That’s very interesting! Being yummier than Korea is a bold statement. It can go either way, either you’re full of it or it’s Legit 😅. Curious now 🤔😁

"Farang" is for caucasian guys. I think it used to call "French" in Ayuthaya era. As I know we also called Chinese as "jek", Indian as "kaek" as well. As a native Thai, I've never judged anybody or even Thai who raised in foreign countries. In fact I think it is adorable how they tried to speak their mother tongue language moreover I think I have responsibility to give them more attention since they are not used to Thai environment. yeah that's it. I hope you enjoy living here.
Spicy spaghetti that you have eaten in Thailand is called "Pad Kee Mao" or drunken spaghetti or sometimes it is in the form of stir-fried instant noodles in Thailand call "Pad Mama Kee Mao = pad mean stir-fry, Mama, mean instant noodles band, Kee Mao mean drunken". The origin of the name is that the extremely hot and spicy taste when you eat it while drunk will reduce the hangover symptoms and feel back to normal. 😂😂😂
27:08 I was born in the US. When I came to Thailand, I couldn't speak Thai at all. But people thought it was kind of cute that my face is Thai but I couldn't speak Thai. No judgment at all.
I have a place to recommend. Nang Loeng Market, they have rich history and the food inside is extremely local and not expensive. I went there last week, not to miss a dessert shop that sells mini tarts 50 bhat for 10 pieces ❤
I’m Thai and been living in Japan for years. Never knew that there is 2nd Street Shop in Bangkok before 😂 Must go and check it out next time I visit my home country. Thanks you guys so much for the updates. Enjoy BKK!💕
Hii, not sure if it's still relevant. So I'm born in Thai but grown up and live in the Netherlands. When going back to Thailand or even Thai people in the Netherlands, I look thai for sure but they know somehow I'm not grown up there since language barrier, they hear and see you're not accustomed to Thai. Maybe also my clothes. Not getting judged at all. Its more my own judgement wanting to communicate in Thai better at the time. Only thing I feel is like they are less likely wanting to engage with you since I don't speak Thai that well. (in my own country) Keep up the great vids ❤
We know exactly what you’re talking about! I guess, it’s kind of like when people visit from Korea to US, we can tell they weren’t born in the states. 100% Agree about the less wanting to engage with you because I get that too. I can definitely relate 😅. Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
For a more Thai experience I recommend you visit ท่าพระจันทร์ or Ta Pra Jun. It's not a shopping street but it's an area where they sell Amulets and have famous fortune tellers. Its a popular spot in Thailand. Also it's near Thsmasat University a very iconic university for school of law and political science. You can find many old schools street food there as well. From there you can travel buy boat to many places as well.

That’s actually the Big C we go to. I even have a vlog on it 😆 It gets very busy. It’s very popular with foreigners due to the location, a lot of foreigners work around there.
Oh really!? 😅 Biggest one we have ever seen! We probably have to go on the later in the afternoon or the weekend to see foreigners because when we went, they were practically all locals. Learn something new everyday! Thank you for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
That’s awesome! We’re definitely going to have to check them out one of these days. What day would you recommend we go visit to get the most action for Bruno? 😅
Eat Am Are is my top favorite for the price and quality-wise, and now they make branch expansion out of their origin Victory Monument to more area and that’s my happiness. 😊 Phed Noi Krub = less spicy 🌶️ for next of your food order We’re still in monsoon / rain season at least until mid September, get your umbrella in handy too.
I just went to this Big C this morning. I am living in this area. K Village used to be very famous a few years ago but nowadays, there are too many community malls like this throughout Bangkok but it's still quite famous among Thais and Expats.
I was born in thailand, moved to the UK my thai was awful! Can't read can't write even now lol. I found that when I tell them I'm thai but I can't read or write thai, thai people seem to become even more friendly.. 😂😂
Unfortunately yes we’re back. We had a great time there even just a few weeks. We miss everything about Thailand already. I couldn’t go to all places I wanted but at least we got to enjoy lots of things. My boys made fun of me for not seeing “Butter bear” the famous mascot at Emshere 😆
I want to go to Thailand again next year, will see. Yes we love Butter bear but she will be at that mall only Friday evening and in the afternoon on weekends, so we couldn’t see her plus tons of people already waiting to see her since 2 or 3 am in the morning 😂 no way we could do it.
I usually use Baby mild (2 in 1 organic baby fabric wash & softener) for cloths washing and DMP baby bath (Green or Purple) to take a shower. It smells good & long-lasting!
Suki Teenoi is very famous among young generations due to its value per money spent. It is a hotpot buffet with late 2xx bht/person. The quality is ok but when plugging in price. It’s worth to experience it.

I had an Indonesian Chinese when visiting Singapore was being judged for not able to speak Chinese and I had to tell the hawker off that she was not allowed to study Chinese in her country back then.
Farang has 2 meanings. First, Guava (fruit); Second it means caucasians either from USA or Europe, but not includes asian-americans and african-americans. K Village is more family-dining out place, it is more crowded on weekends. There is also a farmer market occasionally in the middle space on weekends’ mornings. 😃
Interesting, Gotcha! Icic! Do you have any recommendations at K-Village? Really!? Do you know the name of the farmers market or is it just a small one?
I was just wondering when you guys would come to this area. K village is literally minutes from my house so all the malls you visited today is right around the corner. If you ever return I hope I run into you guys! Anyways... regarding Thais not being able to speak Thai, my sister lives in NY and every year she and her family would come back to visit. My nephews hardly speak Thai at all but in general no one here question that. In fact they find it cool that they attempt to speak Thai at all. When people realize they couldn't speak Thai they just speak English. I also have some friends who are completely caucasian but grew up here, went to Thai school and speak more Thai than English. As far as K village goes, there are pet potty areas and a few pet friendly semi outdoor restaurants. Across the alley from them is JP animal hospital which is a very comprehensive large pet hospital. My dogs were born here. And across the other side of the alley is Kingkong pet shop which is a nice large 2 storey pet emporium and pet hotel. Inside K village is a couple of pet shops too. K village often host weekend food and farmer's market events with lots of food stalls and there are pet events as well. Activities are usually on werkends. It isn't the best community mall, but it's my convenient go-to place being so close to home. If you are coming back please let me know. I'd love to meet you guys. 😊
Oh yeah? That’s cool! We enjoyed exploring your neighborhood hehe 😉 I’m sure you’ll run into us one of these days. We meet a lot of Chovy Fams when we explore the city 🩵🩵🩵
@@ChovyTravela few years ago just a few steps from K village there used to be a North Korean regime run restaurant complete with a nightly dance and singing show. Anyways... did you know that both Big C and K village are on Sukhumvit soi 26 which is in very close proximity to the Phromphong BTS station and Emporium and Emquartier as well.
Thai people don’t judge pple that can speak Thai… they love it that you at least try to communicate and learn some Thai words for a bit..!! They love to help tourists and try to understand u
If you want Thai people to follow you guys, you guys should have subtitles in Thai. Most Thai people don't understand English.I like you guys can eat anything. You not picky to eat.
We definitely do want to drive around Thailand as well. Only concern we have is that a lot of people keep telling us not to drive because of the crooked cops. We never dealt with the cops so we wouldn’t know 🤷 However, we do listen to recommendations/tips/warnings
@@ChovyTraveli have a farang friend who pretended not understand what the cop said when he was pulled by the cop. 😂 it worked cause the cop didn’t speak English so he just let my friend go. 😅
"Farang" imo means Caucasian. If Asian I would try to suggest which country. If you're Asian looked speak English fluently you will be Asian English speaker not Farang or American 😅. Thai people would not look down or even care if you're Thai but cant speak Thai. They just try to communicate like you're their family you know like "Asian parent" 😅😅
I've never heard of this place before, but I will definitely check out the place next time going to that area. By the way, Suki Teenoi is just another Suki restaurant, nothing special but worth what you pay for.
In Japan, if you grow up abroad and don't speak/read/write Japanese well, people do judge and call you "a returnee" (帰国女子/男子) On the contrary, Thai people love it when I tell them I spent half of my life in the States and Japan, even with my far-from-perfect Thai. As long as you try, most Thai people will be supportive, relardless of the language barriers. However, some can be harsh when they see that I don't know much about Thai buddhist practices because they expect me to keep going to Thai temples overseas. Perhaps it's just my strict buddhist family, idk. If I tell them I'm actually irreligious, they would probably be after my blood😂 LOL
Patissarie Rosie is a little bit pricey but that's Le Cordon Bleu chef for you. I know the owner/chef's aunt (my mom's friend) so I get to have a free cake from Patissarie Rosie from time to time, lucky me hahaha

Hello! I’m assuming you’re asking for the plaza we started at??? Suanplern Plaza is the name if that’s correct. Also, in the video Description, it has the locations we went to for the day 😁
For communication concern, it's individual. I don't think I'm able to define Thai people into one exact type. It's not even base on generation or language capability. Basically, it could depend on how much effort they want to spend at that time. I experience so many widely different cases.
Very True! Just a question of curiosity for others that might have experienced what I experienced on multiple occasions in the past/even til this day. Of course, only those that feel comfortable sharing 😅
I guess the spicy spaghetti you ordered might be what Thais call Drunken Spaghetti or Pad Kee Mao Spaghetti. It's similar to Pad Kaprao but with more spices and if there's basil leaves, it's Pad Kee Mao. The meaning is as the name suggests. We usually eat it as a snack when drinking alcohol. So it's very spicy. But some people can eat it as a main dish.😊
The word Farang has been used since ancient times. It is used to refer to a group of people who came into contact with the Kingdom of Siam (the name that foreigners used to call Thai people in the past). It is used to indicate the external characteristics of people who are different from us. This word mainly refers to white Westerners. Because at that time, there were many foreigners of various nationalities who came to trade and to serve as courtiers. If it was Asians, Persians or Indians, there would be other words. Because nowadays, many foreigners use this perspective, so they think that it is a word with a discriminatory meaning. The truth is, it is not. It is a word that only refers to groups of people who are different from us. It can be considered a third-person pronoun.😊
If you can't eat Pad Kee Mao, I think you can't eat wild food. We have a type of food called Wild Food. It may be a bit hard to find in Bangkok. This type of food has a very hot and spicy taste. And uses a lot of herbs and spices as ingredients. Using protein from meat that is more unusual than normal food. Some menus of this type of food use barking deer, frog, snake or wild meat. Pad Kee Mao can be in this category if it uses meat that is different from normal. But it will be spicier for sure. Because the Pad Kee Mao spaghetti that you ate is a modern fusion.
What people do to you only tells what kind of person they are. There are many foreign UA-cam channels that can't speak Thai or can speak it but not clearly, but many Thai people support and love them. This year, there is a Korean UA-cam channel named Cullen Hateberry that Thai people love and follow by millions. He can speak a little Thai and speaks more than 70% wrong. If you follow the news in Thailand, you will know how famous they are now and are presenters of many products in Thailand. Sometimes you don't have to be able to speak Thai to be accepted. We accept who you are if they respect and care about our culture. Being able to speak Thai only makes life in Thailand easier. There are many foreigners that we accept even though they can't speak Thai. The top 10 UA-cam channels with the most followers in Thailand, one of them is a Korean named Kyutae Oppa.
I don't think I've tried any Korean food since we've been in Bangkok. What is your favorite Korean restaurant here? The tteokbokki did look really good and worth trying. Also I'm now curious about Suki Teenoi, as it was so busy. 🤤
We haven’t found one yet, since we are picky with Korean food 😆😅 but that tteokbokki was good (so far the best one we tried in Bangkok) Some of the Chovy Fams said Suki Teenoi is good for the value but quality is not up there, for your reference. 😊
@@ChovyTravel I like bbq and hotpots, so Suki Teenoi could be a place I need to check out for myself 🤤. Of course, I'm always looking for a great value.
Thai people who were born in another country, and yet can not speak Thai well, seem to get treated by local Thai people better than normal local Thai if they act to the people politely, as our culture is totally+very much different from your experience in other countries. Most Thai people will be very impressive whenever they meet any foreigner who is trying to communicate with them with Thai, that I think you would know this case very well. My generation is 90s (Gen y), I have seen so many popular actors and actresses who have poor Thai accent on TV when I was young, we thought it was cute and cool in that time.
I think Thais are more open to diversity, We have many Half Thais- children born oversea so we do understand if many of them can not speak Thai at all, but you can't blame them because they born overseas, they grow up in that country, their first language is not Thai, so it's understandable if them unable to speak Thai at all. In that case mostly we tend to act or speak on simple gestures, simple words like we do with a foreigner who can't speak Thai. btw 'Farang' mostly means white people.
That’s cool. Not all country people are accepting so that’s good to hear in Thailand they’re more understanding. Thank you for sharing and letting us know! 🥰🫰❤️🙏
When it comes to Thai Americans who can't speak Thai, you will be more like a relative than a visitor. They will have the courage to approach you and talk to you and teach you many things. Family culture: Even though you are a foreigner married to a Thai, a Thai family will treat you as a member of the family but will give special importance because they do not want you to have any difficulties in your daily life. If you know the history of this country, you can guess that Siam has been dealing with foreigners since the Ayutthaya period. Because within that kingdom, Siam traded by water with foreign merchants from Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and they were able to establish villages of each nation and set up their religious activities within the city walls. This made the Siamese people know the diversity of the nations and accept the differences for a long time and have continued until the present.
If I see someone looking like / is a Thai but don’t speak like 100% native Thai, I feel nothing 😂. It’s normal and can happen. I don’t see there could be a reason to offend or anything.
from anthony's question about being thai but cant really speak thai from my thai's point of view i think thai people dont really care and they wont judge you for sure but they will have some questions like why cant you speak thai and if u explain to them they'll usually get it and move on. they probably will treat you as a foreigner "farang" 😊
@@ChovyTravel idk about korea but in this case its in a good way tho! fyi if you are in thailand dont overthink about these things this country is so welcoming when it comes to tourists or foreigners 😁

Farang = for generally WHITE people (means anyone with of european origin/ancestors, so white-american ,white-australian, european , white-new zealander etc) Kaek = often used for anyone South Asian (india, pakistan, nepal etc) and Middle-eastern looking (the middle east is actually just all of West asia, however in this case north african is included) Then for any East and Southeast asian country theres no overall term , in that case you just name them by what country theyre from (japan, laos, china, malaysia etc). Anything else is also more named by the country itself, if youre for example also from brasil or colombia (unless you LOOK white/european , then ppl just assume youre afarang and will name you by that…. For MIXED Half Thai (for example), thai people also often just use farang when youre also half white (2 of my cousins are half italian *south european* and half Thai but our thai fam often considers them as farang , EVEN THO thailand has a term for halfies , which is ´´luk krueng´´) …i personally highly disagree with calling biracial half asian (thai) half white people as farang tho, since it always feels to me, that they kinda dismiss your Thai side and see you as purely white person, while you are simply not. However i heard this is the case for many biracial from east/southeast asia. In asia theyr considered white often, while in theyre western countries theyre seen as just asian instead. Same for half thais who are still 100% asian. One of my friends daughter is Half Korean half Thai ,but the Thai family also considers the daughter as ´korean only´ so thais often see mixed kids more by theyr NON thai side i noticed since ive been young (only half chinese half thai like ME seem to be less considered by only one side, how i experienced and know it from many thais at least)… So it depends, if youre mixed half (and depending on what kind of mix) its different than if youre 100% foreigner. Lastly BLACK africans are at least by my fam called farang dam (means black foreigner) , but in this case i never heard how other ppl call black ppl , this is the only term i always ONLY heard with my own thai fam. , others might also just call them by the country, if they are directly from africa, for african americans i guess ppl will just say american. Or african from america…
Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain so much! 🥰🫰❤️🙏 That’s strange even when you’re half, they still call you farang. I have never heard of farang dam but I understand 😅
I will attempt to answer as many questions as I can--- once again: 1. What does "Farang" mean? Ans: This word refers to foreigners in general. However, because white European characters are most distinct, Thais have come to use "Farang" as being white Europeans/N. Americans/Australians/New Zealanders. 2. Do your countrymen treat people of the same ethnic group differently if those people do not speak the local language well? Ans: Yes! Local Thais feel that if you do not speak Thai well and/or not well versed with everyday Thsi culture/tradition, you are a "Farang". This belief is held even in cases where you can prove that you were born here in Thailand. To me this just reflects more of a lack of experience with the diaspora population of Thais by locals. 3. Are there many Tee Noi hotpot restaurants? Ans: Yes! There are many around Bangkok. 4. Has anyone ever been at Big C on Rama IV? Ans: No, I have not been there before. I use to drive by there a d K Village daily twenty or more years ago. K Village was frequented o ly several times, as we were there mainly for golf. I don't remember any other questions. Do let me know if I missed any questios. Cheers!!!
Thank you so very much again for taking the time to answer our questions 🥰❤️🫰🙏 Appreciate you sharing and letting us know! Very Interesting! That’s pretty much the bulk of the questions 😃

In my opinion, Farang means foreigner .mostly call white people not like Afirican-American or Asian-American. Farang in thai also means Gava fruit. Beacause Gava in side is white, same as white people skin. that is what I believe. lol
the word Farang came from France cause they were the first westerners that came to Thailand back in Ayutthaya period but Thai couldn't pronounce"France" correctly so it's became FARANG

And about Anthony quesion.
@@ChovyTravel another theory, indian trader who came to early kingdom refer westerner as firangi, and then later shorten to farang
@@ChovyTravel Don't worry guys, Thai people don't judge anyone who cannot speak Thai even they are Thai or mixed race, we also treat them as our people and we're more than happy to help and teach them some Thai words just the same as we help foreigner.😊
Interesting!
That’s definitely reassuring to know! Appreciate it! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
I see. We love that Thais are so open minded and understanding!! Love Thailand and khon Thais 💗
Thais are seriously so cool! Super sweet and understanding, no wonder so many foreigners fall in love with the country and the people 😊🫶🏻
Love how much you two explore, always finding different places in Bangkok. I don’t think there will ever be a shortage of videos to make in this city.
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Seriously… so many areas to explore! 😅
Thanks for nice clip as always! 😊🎉
Most Thai people are kind-hearted and like to help those who are in difficult situations without any discrimination based on race.
At least we don’t think 😅
Really!?
Thanks for explaining this!! France (in Thai) and Farang does sound similar so we get it now! 👍👍
@@ChovyTravel also France in French sound like frang ceh = ฝรั่งเศส farangzeth
How funny! That’s good to know! Tyty! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Interesting! Thank you for the clarification 🥰🫰❤️🙏
I see. Thanks so much for explaining it to us! Appreciate it 👍👍
I love watching your vlogs and the way you've reviewed foods, places etc. about Thailand. Thais love going to all you can eat places. Have you found your favorite Korean BBQ buffet in Bangkok yet? Your review on Korean bbq buffets here would be much interesting.

The Big C in Rama 4, it was "Carrefour" before. (more than 10 years ago)
Long time! Never heard of Carrefour. Was that a market as well?
@@ChovyTravelCarrefour is a french supermarket chain there used to be around 60 Carrefour in Thailand but the business was sold to Big C (more than 10years ago) and they changed every single one of them and rebranded Big C Extra, thats why Big C extra is always bigger than the regular Big C.
Oh wow! That would’ve been interesting to see 😃.
1:20 Actually, I don't recommend you guys eat at Suki Teenoi for the Taste only,
because the Number 1 reason that they're famous is the Worthiness at the price.
( I mean the taste is Okay, it's a decent choice for this kind of restaurant. )
Beside that, you guys could know how Sukiyaki or Shabu-shabu gonna be like.
It's depend on how Quality the stuffs are,
they don't need chefs because you're the one who cook. Ha ha
And because of the long queue, Sometime I will go to eat after the Midnight,
at the branch which Far... from the city.
14:09 Yes, "Farang" came from "Foreigner" ( or it also could be from "France" ) ,
but it usually refer to the White People only,
( mostly Europeans before some of they move to America. )
Because around 200-300 years ago,
there are European Boatman came to this area for Explorer or Trading.
At that time the White People didn't look familiar to us.
unlike the Asian people or Middle East people
who already have been contact before.
So... there become the word to call this kind of person,
and it's a neutral word, nothing negative.
Thanks for the recommendation (advice) and explaining farang to us hehe 😉
The garlic pork, spicy chicken and Somtum looks so yummy. Btw, I heard from many Koreans in YT that there're the popular Korean Restaurants called "Dong E" and "Jang Won BBQ", both located in Korean Town at Sukhumvit 12. Jang Won BBQ is the first Korean Restaurant in the area for about 30 yrs. So if you miss Korea or crave for Korean foods you need to go to Korean Town since there're many restaurants, shops and Supermarket that sell korean products in this mall.

It’s sweet that Thais think it’s cute that foreigners try to speak Thai. It’s nice to know 🥰🫶🏻

😂😂😂
Lol 😂 that’s so funny!!!

For a more Thai experience I recommend you visit ท่าพระจันทร์ or Ta Pra Jun. It's not a shopping street but it's an area where they sell Amulets and have famous fortune tellers. 😃

How funny! 😅 The spice kind of shocked me. It was rather delicious though 😃 How Interesting! I would’ve never thought it would be a snack dish.
👍👍
Thai people who were born in another country, and yet can not speak Thai well, seem to get treated by local Thai people better than normal local Thai if they act to the people politely, as our culture is totally+very much different from your experience in other countries. Most Thai people will be very impressive whenever they meet any foreigner who is trying to communicate with them with Thai, that I think you would know this case very well. My generation is 90s (Gen y), I have seen so many popular actors and actresses who have poor Thai accent on TV when I was young, we thought it was cute and cool in that time.
That’s very interesting and cool. We like that! ❤️
Farang refer to white westerners!
Ahh! Got it! 😅 Thank you!
26:45 I personally don’t think they would judge you, but they might try to avoid you because of the language barrier.
I see, that makes sense!
That’s so cool! Really didn’t know any of that! Thank you so very much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
If I see someone looking like / is a Thai but don’t speak like 100% native Thai, I feel nothing 😂. It’s normal and can happen. I don’t see there could be a reason to offend or anything.
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 It’s nice to hear that.
from anthony's question about being thai but cant really speak thai from my thai's point of view i think thai people dont really care and they wont judge you for sure but they will have some questions like why cant you speak thai and if u explain to them they'll usually get it and move on. they probably will treat you as a foreigner "farang" 😊
That’s cool! I like that!
Ahh… Icic! I’ve definitely had that experience in Korea so I know what you mean by treat you as a foreigner 😅
@@ChovyTravel idk about korea but in this case its in a good way tho! fyi if you are in thailand dont overthink about these things this country is so welcoming when it comes to tourists or foreigners 😁
True! Oh yeah! Thailand is cool. Didn’t really have any issues. Even if we did, majority of the people in Thailand have been nothing but nice.
Is this the first time we get a 10/10 ?😮
Nope! We have given 10/10s before 😆😆
Farangs are all non Asian foreigners. They may add a suffix to distinguish them, so Black people are called Farang Dam for example.
Ooohhhh thanks for letting us know! 😊👍
For most Thai people, farang refer to westerners or whites. But you might hear some (rare) Thais use it to refer to any foreigners.
Thanks for the clarification! 😄👍
Suan plern must eat Nittaya kai yarg Nittaya grilled chicken
Oh really!? That good!? 😅
@@ChovyTravel if you okay with Thai styled grilled chicken, I say Nittaya kai yang is pretty good. Deep fried snapper with sweet fish sauce is a favorite when we go. Don't forget the som tam Papaya salad
I don’t think we tried Thai grilled chicken yet. We’ll put the restaurant on our list of places to try! Thanks for the recommendation!! 🫶🏻🩵
Really!? Interesting! Wow! First time ever hearing this but now that you explained it… I think I know what you’re talking about to some degree 😅
Farang = for generally WHITE people (means anyone with of european origin/ancestors, so white-american ,white-australian, european , white-new zealander etc)
Kaek = often used for anyone South Asian (india, pakistan, nepal etc) and Middle-eastern looking (the middle east is actually just all of West asia, however in this case north african is included)
Then for any East and Southeast asian country theres no overall term , in that case you just name them by what country theyre from (japan, laos, china, malaysia etc).
One of my friends daughter is Half Korean half Thai ,but the Thai family also considers the daughter as ´korean only´ so thais often see mixed kids more by theyr NON thai side i noticed since ive been young (only half chinese half thai like ME seem to be less considered by only one side, how i experienced and know it from many thais at least)…
So it depends, if youre mixed half (and depending on what kind of mix) its different than if youre 100% foreigner.
That’s strange even when you’re half, they still call you farang.
I have never heard of farang dam but I understand 😅
I will attempt to answer as many questions as I can--- once again:
Cheers!!!
Thank you so very much again for taking the time to answer our questions 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Appreciate you sharing and letting us know! Very Interesting! That’s pretty much the bulk of the questions 😃
Far rang slang means caucasian people no Nee to be tourists just ordinary people.
Keak. Slang means Indians or south Asian country. Or middle East. Arabiians
But Far rang also mean guava 😂
Very nice! That’s definitely good to know 😅. Thank you for sharing the info 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Teenoi is famous for the cheap hotpot buffet. Not for me i can't eat much. The quality and taste is fair not that good.
Icic! Thank you so much for sharing! Do you think MK or U and I is better than Teenoi?
@@ChovyTravel I like Neo Suki way better than MK. You should try
That’s not the first time someone has mentioned Neo Suki. It must be good! 😁 Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
For exact "Farang" = Caucasian.
Got it, thank you! 😁
In my opinion, Farang means foreigner .mostly call white people not like Afirican-American or Asian-American. Farang in thai also means Gava fruit. Beacause Gava in side is white, same as white people skin. that is what I believe. lol
the word Farang came from France cause they were the first westerners that came to Thailand back in Ayutthaya period
but Thai couldn't pronounce"France" correctly so it's became FARANG
I see. Thanks for explaining that to us! It was little confusing 😅😅
Ooohhhhh I see!! 👍👍
