I was born at Siraraj hospital 60+ years ago. This hospital is the biggest hospital in Thailand and has been serving Thai people more than 100 years. Wang Lang market is welknown for more than a decade to serve all doctors, nurses, other medical personals, patients and families and local residents in this area.

28:30 Lotus seeds. peel the skin part and bite it in half then remove green sprout inside because it's bitter. however those lotus sprouts are expensive because they're used for both Thai and Chinese medicine, they are good for your blood pressure and your heart.

28:24 It's a really cool experience. You know you're eating a lotus flower, right? It's the inside of a lotus flower. Honestly! I'm Thai but i never eaten it before. 😄
The most convenient way to travel from Ekkamai to Wang Lang is definitely by taxi. However, if you prefer an alternative route, you can take the BTS Skytrain to Asok Station, transfer to the MRT Subway, and get off at Itsaraphap Station. From there, it’s just a 10-minute taxi ride to Wang Lang. It surely take quite some time from Ekkamai since this place is located on another side of the river (Thonburi side). In your video, you mentioned that most tourists get off at Tha Chang Pier because it’s within walking distance to The Grand Palace. Wang Lang, on the other hand, is a popular spot for locals. It’s known for its variety of street food and shops, as you’ve already experienced. Wang Lang is also located right next to Siriraj Hospital, the largest hospital in Thailand, which explains the presence of many medical students, nurses, doctors, and staff in the area. You might have also noticed several pharmacies in the vicinity, where medicines are sold at wholesale prices too.
Durian is available all year round, but it is most delicious from April to June. The lotus seeds you eat are fresh lotus seeds. The English name is lotus. It is the stamen of a flower. It is difficult to eat. If you do not know how to eat it, it will have a bitter taste. When eating, you have to peel off the black stuff first. If you want to try eating it deliciously, order it from a dessert shop with ice. It is much more delicious because those lotus seeds have been candied. Did you know that Wang Lang Market that you went to is next to Siriraj Hospital, the largest in Thailand? It is so big that it is called the City of Hospitals, and it is a government hospital too. Siraraj Hospital has 12,000 patients per day and a total of 50,000-100,000 people entering and exiting per day. There are a lot of doctors and hospital personnel. 1,459 doctors, 4,051 nurses and 2,421 nursing assistants, excluding a large number of hospital-related workers. If you take a boat next time, if you are not afraid of water, take a normal boat. You will see the view on both sides very clearly. It is beautiful too.
Got it! Is there a favorite dessert spot you go to that sells lotus seeds? We didn’t know there was such a huge hospital. I’m assuming they’re mainly for local Thais and not foreigners. Thank you for the info and recommendation 🥰🫰❤️🙏

Lotus seeds are rare item, very difficult to find these days. Sometimes it is sold as dried crispy lotus seeds in dried-nut shops. To eat fresh you peel the green skin off and bite it in half and take a little green sprout in the middle off first. That middle green sprout causes bitterness.

Thailand can produce durian around April - September from different regions, April-June from Eastern (a greatest number in May) and July-September from Southern also Northeastern. We have non-seasonal durian as well but high price.
Guys the second bread shop you stopped at, with the coconut in it. That's the one Anthonly gave a 9 out of 10. That's called "Khanom Tang Taek" in Thai. It fills you up if you're not careful because of the huge bread size. The correct definition of this snack's name is the "I'm broke snack!", no kidding.
That was so kind of you guys to pay for their food. I did the same when I was in Bangkok. I bought a top in one of the stores for my hubby but it was too small so went back to change it and young girl was so helpful and with lack of communication she changed it apparantly there is no exchange so felt that I had to give her something and bought her a bubble tea she was so happy.😊
I love thai bread 🥖 the most ! Since I moved to the us , I stopped having bread because it was too hard for me and so boring 😅!!! Everytime I go back to Thailand I feel like I will eat everything that I can’t have in the US😂
100% Agree! That’s the cool thing about Bangkok. I heard they’re always changing vendors daily/weekly. Not sure if it’s the case at WangLang but for other markets
n English, "เม็ดบัว" is known as lotus seed. The scientific name for the lotus plant, from which these seeds are harvested, is Nelumbo nucifera. Lotus seeds are commonly used in Asian cuisine and traditional medicine. They can be eaten raw, roasted, or used in soups, desserts, and teas.
14:02 We called them Mhee Krob (หมี่-กรอบ) it's so hard to find good one, it's been a while since I had one but it probably one of the rare snacks that I liked. It is a crispy noodle, I don't know which kind, coated in sticky sauce that taste mainly sour and a bit of sweet. They are usually a short or broken noodle sticked into cluster, can be a bit messy to our fingers sometime, but I would recommend you try it the next time if you see one!
I find using the Google Translate app on my cell phone very helpful when transcribing Thai Menus. Just select camera and it will translate the Thai writing to English.
Guys, the red spikey skin fruit you guys ate near the beginning is a "Snake Fruit". That's what it's literally called in English. That's one of my favorite fruits. It's very aromatic. I think those people in the small alley were buying their dinner right there. Chicken feet are a favorite for anyone accustomed to eating Chinese food. I prefer the Cantonese style that's steamed to softness perfection soaking in red marinate sauce. However, I also like the 5 Star Stew one, "Palow" in Thai, which is what you saw in that alley. I'll admit though that you'd have to enjoy jelatin to like to eat chicken feet. Finally, the pineapples you were quoted nearly 300 Bht. for twice are actually a special pineapple from Phuket. It's called, conveniently enough, "Sapparot Puget", or Phuket Pineapple. It is much sweeter than the typical larger pineapple you get in Chonburi (same kind of pineapple you can buy from Hawaii). The fruit carts sell typical Chonburi pineapples for 25 Bht. per bag (half a pineapple). I just want to say I'm really jealous of you. My house is very far from Wang Lang Market, and on the new city side (Wang Lang is in Thonburi City--- our previous capital city before it was moved to the other side of the Chaophraya River which is Bangkok). Finally, yes, I can drive to this market. The problem comes when I have to do some serious walking in the hot-humid climate before I can reap the fruits of my adventurous quest for food 😓.
I love the gelatin chicken feet! They’re amazing 🤤. Wow! Didn’t know that in regards to the pineapples. Thought the small pineapples were all the same. Sorry! 😅 It does get really hot and humid so I don’t blame you.
This is a place I would like you to visit once. Actually, try to find a market or accommodation around Thonburi because it is cheaper and quieter than the city center. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to travel because there are only a few BTS stations.
@@ChovyTravel If you want to go somewhere you don't know, the staff at both BTS and MRT counters will be able to advise you which station to get off at and will answer in English.
Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple (English: Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple) or as it is called Phulae Pineapple is a pineapple variety in the Queen group, small fruit and can be grown all year round. Small fruit, golden flesh, fragrant smell, crispy pineapple core, can be eaten, moderately sweet taste. Origin is in Nang Lae Subdistrict, Tha Sut Subdistrict and Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province.
In English, "ผักตบชวา" is known as water hyacinth. The scientific name for this plant is Eichhornia crassipes. Water hyacinth is a free-floating aquatic plant native to South America, but it has become invasive in many parts of the world due to its rapid growth and spread in freshwater ecosystems.
Caroline burning her lips is the most adorable thing! haha have you guys tried dinner on a boat on the river? i had the chance to experience it when i was on a National Geographic assignment in Bangkok years ago. it was nice. and also have you gone to the river market? it was very interesting. also, you must try fried worms. they taste like french fries. yummy! haha.
😂 We have tried dinner on a boat and the experience was great. However, we haven’t gone to a river market. French fries!? Really!? 😅 Sounds pretty good 😃
I have a suggestion for both of you. If you don't know what this is, you can use Google Lens to look at it and Google Translate in camera mode to translate it, ❤ U two.
Glad you visited this market. Nearby is a large hospital and hotels. Next to the market is a famous temple, Wat Rakhang Khositaram. Enjoy sightseeing and eating.

Peak Durian season is May-June time frame. Southern part of Thailand is a little different. I don't remember when. As always, the in season fruits are the best in terms of quality and price. But there are always off- season offerings. I am a Durian purist. I always eat it by itself. No, sticky rice for me. Cheers.
Metro is under construction, siriraj hospital station, crossing to connect blue line and purple line. But now the nearest mrt you can get off is fai chai station, then take taxi for about 1-2 km or 15 mins

This market in the past i will go look for authentic desert or some old style Thai food that hard to find in most places I will find it here or bang lum poo ( near Kao San road) lot of people will stop at market to buy some things when they visit patient at the hospital. Also some nice waterfront cafe nearby through wat arun side. Watching you guy I ‘m craving of sweet (coconut pancake)
tbh, when I watch your video, it bring tears to my eye. it recognized me the fact that even some part in this country is bullshit. For example, the politics or low salary. The hospitality is insanely good. Seeing that girl helped you in that kind of situation, I assume that if it's me or any other, we will do the same for sure.
There is a gap before BTS taksin so it is usually Be that way for two seconds Many years ago, this is the last station that’s why they make path to return the train

Thailand can produce durian around April - September from different regions, April-June from Eastern (a greatest number in May) and July-September from Southern also Northeastern. We have non-seasonal durian as well but high price.
Oohhh!! Thanks for letting us know. 👍👍
Icic! Thank you for letting us know what the name was in Thai! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 That bread was definitely huge! 😅 That name works 😂
Oh really!? That’s so interesting! We were thinking we were going to be stuck 😅. Glad to have a heads up the next time it happens. Thank you! 🥰❤️🫰🙏

We still haven’t tried it. Smelled really sweet when we passed by a stall at the market. Maybe we’ll try it next time 😀👍
That was so kind of you guys to pay for their food.
I did the same when I was in Bangkok. I bought a top in one of the stores for my hubby but it was too small so went back to change it and young girl was so helpful and with lack of communication she changed it apparantly there is no exchange so felt that I had to give her something and bought her a bubble tea she was so happy.😊
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Thats amazing and great to hear! Can’t go wrong with bubble tea 😃
I love thai bread 🥖 the most ! Since I moved to the us , I stopped having bread because it was too hard for me and so boring 😅!!! Everytime I go back to Thailand I feel like I will eat everything that I can’t have in the US😂
Makes sense!
That’s literally us when we lived in US too when traveling 😃. Eat everything and buy everything you can’t get in the states 😁
This market is so good 😊 I’ve been there years ago since I lived in Thailand wow so many new vendors these days.
100% Agree! That’s the cool thing about Bangkok. I heard they’re always changing vendors daily/weekly. Not sure if it’s the case at WangLang but for other markets
happy to see u and thank you for food give us in hospital , follow you now ❤
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
It was our pleasure! 😉 Appreciate the love and support!
n English, "เม็ดบัว" is known as lotus seed. The scientific name for the lotus plant, from which these seeds are harvested, is Nelumbo nucifera.
Lotus seeds are commonly used in Asian cuisine and traditional medicine. They can be eaten raw, roasted, or used in soups, desserts, and teas.
Nice looking bread!
And Delicious! 😉
9:59 That's snake fruit or "sala" in Thai or "salak" in Malay.
Appreciate you letting us know! First time ever and it was definitely an experience 😃
So much food!! 😁 lotus seeds are interesting very different!!
Icic! Thank you for letting us know! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 Will have to remember next time 😅
I find using the Google Translate app on my cell phone very helpful when transcribing Thai Menus. Just select camera and it will translate the Thai writing to English.
Will have to start trying that! Thanks for the heads up 🥰
Guys, the red spikey skin fruit you guys ate near the beginning is a "Snake Fruit".
I guess we really love Chiang Rai Pineapples 😃 Just out of curiosity, which province grows the best pineapples in Thailand?
Durian season mostly starts around May and ends in June. Only some area can manage to have durian whole year (the price out of season will be insane).
I see. Can’t wait for next durian season! 😊
This is a place I would like you to visit once. Actually, try to find a market or accommodation around Thonburi because it is cheaper and quieter than the city center. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to travel because there are only a few BTS stations.
We do need to check on Thonburi for sure. It’s just really far 😕. Hopefully in the near future we will check it out 😃
@@ChovyTravel If you want to go somewhere you don't know, the staff at both BTS and MRT counters will be able to advise you which station to get off at and will answer in English.
Never thought about that 😅 Thank you for the tip! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Water hyacinth
Pontederia crassipes, commonly known as common water hyacinth. It's over growth in either canals, and rivers in Thailand.
Thanks for telling us! 😊
Thank you for explaining this! There were so many on the river! 😆
You can take MRT line "Fai Chai" Station (BL03) and waive the public mini van to Wang Lang. Let you try once. 😊
Really!? Is the Mini Van Free? That would be awesome if it is 😃
@@ChovyTravel8-10 Baht I guess, haha
Ahh practically free 😁
Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple (English: Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple) or as it is called Phulae Pineapple is a pineapple variety in the Queen group, small fruit and can be grown all year round. Small fruit, golden flesh, fragrant smell, crispy pineapple core, can be eaten, moderately sweet taste. Origin is in Nang Lae Subdistrict, Tha Sut Subdistrict and Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province.
We definitely love Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple! 🤤 Best I ever had!
It’s so sweet and juicy! Thank you for the info! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
That makes sense! Fruits are so delicious here in Thailand 😁🩵
Caroline burning her lips is the most adorable thing! haha
have you guys tried dinner on a boat on the river? i had the chance to experience it when i was on a National Geographic assignment in Bangkok years ago. it was nice.
and also have you gone to the river market? it was very interesting.
also, you must try fried worms. they taste like french fries. yummy! haha.
😂 We have tried dinner on a boat and the experience was great. However, we haven’t gone to a river market.
French fries!? Really!? 😅 Sounds pretty good 😃
Old school market because it is close to the major government hospital .
Icic! Interesting! Do foreigners go to that hospital?
I have a suggestion for both of you. If you don't know what this is, you can use Google Lens to look at it and Google Translate in camera mode to translate it, ❤ U two.
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Appreciate the suggestion!
We have but their translations are very 50/50 😅 Tyty! 🥰
Fresh lotus seed
👌👌
Oh yeah, it was super HOT 🥵 we carried ice water with us and that helped! 😊
The weather is hot, you should try to find some Snake Brand Cooling Powder to apply on your body, it will help you, it has both a powder and a spray.❤
Didn’t even know that existed. Thank you for the recommendation! Will have to look into it 🥰❤️🫰🙏
28.45 Lotus seeds when it grow it turn to be a lotus flowers.Don’t eat green thing in the seeds it’s very bitter.
Never seen that before so that was definitely an experience. Appreciate you letting us know. Very interesting! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Glad you visited this market. Nearby is a large hospital and hotels. Next to the market is a famous temple, Wat Rakhang Khositaram. Enjoy sightseeing and eating.
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Do you know if a lot of foreigners typically visit that area? We didn’t really see them 🤷
Those green plants floating in the water are water hyacinths. They are non-native species. Their purple flowers are very nice though.
Thank you for letting us know! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 Appreciate it!
She was so nice 😮
Right!? An absolute sweetheart!
Guys, the seed that was bitter and you compared to ginkgo is a fresh lotus seed
Got it! Thank you for letting us know! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
I love your channel, grandma selling pork knuckles over rice looks so sweet, thank you for sharing, love that you guys open to try new things, keep up the good work ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
It was amazing! Absolutely our pleasure. Appreciate it! ❤️❤️🫰🫰
Peak Durian season is May-June time frame. Southern part of Thailand is a little different. I don't remember when.
As always, the in season fruits are the best in terms of quality and price.
But there are always off- season offerings. I am a Durian purist. I always eat it by itself. No, sticky rice for me.
Cheers.
Can’t wait for the next season!! I think we prefer the durian by itself too 😊🩵👍
@@ChovyTravel jealous. But we might be there next year. Cheers
😅 Awesome! I feel like once you visit Thailand once, you can’t stop visiting.
far as i know, durians nowadays are available year-round. but i believe the best tasting ones are the in-season fruits.
Icic! Makes sense! We recently had Durian again and it was amazing 😃
😊
🥰❤️🫰🙏
28:21 is Lotus seed / inside the white one you eat they will have little green line in the middle it’s astringent taste but can eat
Different species of pineapple so it’s different price too, big size is not expensive but the small size as you seen it’s more expensive than big size
Icic!
Makes sense! Yes! The small ones are better 😅
Metro is under construction, siriraj hospital station, crossing to connect blue line and purple line. But now the nearest mrt you can get off is fai chai station, then take taxi for about 1-2 km or 15 mins
Thank you for letting us know! By any chance, Do you know when they will be done with construction?

Ohh when you eat Salak , there's watering in my mouth 😋.
And for the girl , she deserves to get a good thing from good person .
Some tips for delicious food , if you see food from old seller in market you always get the original food taste.
😂 First time ever trying it! Very Unique! She was a sweetheart! 🥰
We just had to pay for her and her mom.
Appreciate the tip! Definitely a good reminder going forward 😃

Seems like Chiang Rai is definitely doing something great to make them little pineapple’s extremely delicious 🤤
when you saw menu in Thai ..you should use google lens to translate in English.
We didn’t think about Google lens… will have to try that next time! Thank you ☺️

Really!? They did have a lot of great looking food options for sure. Really!? Which waterfront cafe is your favorite?
Awesome! Thank you so very much! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
That would be a game changer when MRT lines open
tbh, when I watch your video, it bring tears to my eye. it recognized me the fact that even some part in this country is bullshit. For example, the politics or low salary. The hospitality is insanely good. Seeing that girl helped you in that kind of situation, I assume that if it's me or any other, we will do the same for sure.
Very True! She was an absolute sweetheart! She’s a great example of great Thai Hospitality!
There is a gap before BTS taksin so it is usually Be that way for two seconds
Many years ago, this is the last station that’s why they make path to return the train
Oh really? Didn’t know that! Thanks for sharing 😀
