My Nissan Altima SL 2013 A/C FIRST would sometimes not cool properly so I was going to replace the Compressor Control valve -- but NOW i see the clutch does not engage and the LOW pressure line gets very hot even with all A/C controls turned off. If not then maybe I have a wiring / connector problem like you show on one of your other videos. ALSO -- What would cause the Low pressure line to get very hot when compressor is not engaging and all cabin switches are off? IF I replace the Control valve I will also replace the Expansion valve -- Thank you for your attention, all your videos are very helpful.
@@juliusmarkov8182 The A/C clutch was defective. It did not engage when it received power to do so. As I remember THIS A/C clutch on a 2013 Altima SL; has two wires. If you replace the clutch OR get a whole new compressor unit with a clutch - make sure it has a two wire connection (IF your original unit has two). I do not understand exactly why, some only have one wire - but the SL with automatic A/C is designed that way - there must be a reason, maybe the automatic feature. Can I remove the AC compressor control valve without draining the freon? I was just planning on using one of those canned freon bottles to add some refrigerant. Would that work?
@@737mechanic So i do not have control valve ( don't have automatic climate control) should I try changing the expansion valve 55psi low side 150 psi high side
Hey did ur ac got cold at noon ?i tried this last year but i bought one from O'Reilly and it worked but today is too hot and its not working I think ima go with the original one
@@christopherhitchens1502 Yes, drain the system before removing the valve. I have another video replacing the expansion valve, another cause of not cooling. If your compressor is coming on and it is not cooling then either of these can be the cause. The control valve is #1 but the expansion valve is 2nd. If your compressor clutch is NOT coming on, these will not be your problem.
The control valve keeps the pressures balanced in the system, unlike systems without a control valve where the compressor cycles on and off all the time in a control valve system the compressor rarely cycles, the control valve will vary the displacement of the compressor instead of engaging and disengaging the clutch.
@@737mechanic There are mechanically controlled control valves that do not use a wire. My 2009 Altima S has one. Manual AC. The mechanical control valve works to try and maintain suction pressure. The model # for the control valve listed for my Valeo compressor is RKX-RCV-037 (seems only one company makes it).
As long as you can see your control valve and get to it, it should be the same procedure. Evacuate the system and pull the control valve out and install the new one.
Would you be able to explain in a video step by step how to identify the cause of my ac not working. I want changing the compressor to be the last thing. I have a 2014 sv Altima. Ac engages but will barely cool. Once it’s running the air will be less warm but not cold. Almost like a warm fan
Without hooking gauges to it I can't but I can say that if the compressor is engaging then I would change both the compressor control valve and expansion valve.
What would you say is a fair price to pay a shop to replace this ? I just moved to a new state so my family and familiar mechanic I would usually go to is 14 hours away. I already paid for a AC tune up before my move which didnt fix it so I feel like this is most likely the solution. In the early morning/late night when its cool it blows cold air but i moved to texas so the moment it gets 85+ degrees it blows out hot air.
Thanks for the vid very helpful Question my 2014 Nissan Altima 2.4 I put Freon and ac clutch kick on and it’s on all the time what I see on idle blows hot air when I give gas like 3000 rpm blows cold any idea Thanks and God bless you
Great videos, just what I needed. 2014 Sentra. I did the check from the other video and do hear 5 clicks from the compressor, but. Down below I see you tell someone to be sure the clicks are from the compressor clutch, not the compressor relay. Is the relay on the compressor? My clutch won't engage at all when running. I'm hoping the refrigerant is just depleted. Thanks.
The relay is in the IPDM, the clutch should be much louder than the relay. If you hear clicking from the clutch area then that is probably the clutch so you should be good as far as the clutch, so you may be right about the refrigerant being low.
@@737mechanic My bad. I just checked it out. the clutch does engage, so I'm going to get some r-134 and hopefully get it working better. @@lookbehindyou5951 just take it to a shop and have them evac the system so you can do the 10-15 minute job, chances are you have freon in your system anyway. stuff is terrible for the environment, so just pay the cost to have them do it and just make sure to bring your jack and pliers
@585858 Once the system is evacuated of the old Freon, does that also depressurize the stern? Or is there another step to depressurize before replacing the part? Thanks!
With gauges connected I watch the pressures and see what they do when I turn the A/C on and off. The expansion valve and control valve can have similar symptoms but the control valve is a high failure item and since any time you evacuate the system they recommend replacing the expansion valve I would replace both to be on the safe side.
Yes the compressor should still come on even if the control valve is bad. You have another problem. Do this test and see if you hear the compressor clutch engages. ua-cam.com/video/SA_IE7WivHU/v-deo.html
Wondering if you ever got it out? Mine won't budge. The plastic tab broke off so I have nothing to grab. I even drilled a hole and put a sheetemetal screw into it to help pry it out. Drilled several holes to get heavy needle nose pliers in to pull it out. Here I sit, waiting on my new compressor.
I am curious what you think might be an issue when the low side is 70 psi and high side is 150 psi on a 85° day? Compressor runs all the time. Solenoid or expansion valve?
@@737mechanic thanks, also I was watching the pressures on the gauge at idle and witnessed the high side drop to to 90 and low side increase a little. But never saw the low side go below 70. Do not see the control valve listed on the 4 cyl but pretty sure I saw the harness for it.
Can someone answer my question i need help My grand vitara jb420 have this kind of compressor, but it also have a magnetic clutch infront, so my ac mechanic is a little confuse because when the compressor kick on, it wont turn off when it reach the temp that we want, like other compressor, in my toyota camry the compressor kick on when i turn the ac on, and then off automatically when it reach the certain temp, is this kind of compressor with a control valve behind it doesnt turn of automatically? If it doesn’t, why it have a magnetic clutch then? My ac mechanic confuse so he bypass it with a modded thermostat to make the compressor automatic
The compressor will turn off if the pressure is too high or too low but this is a variable displacement compressor so when it is on the control valve varies the displacement instead of turning off and on all the time. If your compressor is engaged and turning but you do not have cold air it is most likely the control valve is bad.
Hello sir I have 2015 nissan sentra and when I'm driving I smell ac gas inside and later my ac is gone do you think. my leak is in expansion valve or evaporator?
Could be either one. I would replace the expansion valve first because they are as cheap as $10.00 and if that doesn't fix it the evaporator would be the problem.
Replaced control valve, replaced Expansion Valve also. In another video you have, I performed the compressor clutch test. I did here the clutch engage 5 times so I know it has power. With the car on the compressor does not come on at all. Possible a pressure switch not closed ? Possible my $15 Control valve from China is bad?
With the car running does the compressor engage? If so feel the lines and see if the low side is cold. If the compressor is engaging and staying engaged when the car is running then the pressure switch is fine. It could be the control valve even though you installed a new one. You really need to put gauges on it and see what the pressures are.
It's not the control valve, the compressor should still come on even with a bad control valve. If the compressor isn't coming on it could be the pressure switch but keep in mind the compressor connector is a high failure item. I have another video of troubleshooting and fixing the connector because of the same problem you are having. Make sure the clicking you hear when you do the self-test is the compressor and not the compressor relay.
Hello. My mechanic just vacuumed and charged the a/c on my 2010 altima. It cools good. However my clutch does not stop turning as long as my a/c is on. It stops when I turn off the a/c. When I tested this, the temperature setting was on 50%, just at the middle, and it was evening so not too hot weather. I waited around 5-10 minutes and the clutch did not stop turning. It was cold in the car but not very cold. When I turned the temperature switch to max, the air from the vents went colder. So the a/c temperature control system (probably some kind of thermostat) works properly. The only problem is that the clutch does not stop turning which increases the a/c gas pressure too much so it leaks out of the system. What’s the problem? Also does a/c clutch go on and off when the a/c is on and the car is working on idle in park gear on 2010 nissan altima or the clutch is engaged as long as the a/c is on?
So if your car has a CCV or compressor control valve the clutch will stay engaged almost 100 percent of the time. What it does is unloads the compressor when it does not need as much pressure and increase as it needs more. If your system does not have a CCV then check to see if the low-pressure switch is stuck when would keep the compressor engaged.
I have a 2014 Altima S model. It doesn't have a control valve on the compressor. It blows cool air after picking up speed. The compressor clicks on and off. The low side pressure was at 70psi. Thoughts?
Compressor may be bad if the low side only gets down to 70psi. It should be between 30 and 40 when the compressor is running. You also need to change the expansion valve if you change the compressor.
Do you know if this goes for the Base and S models as well? Or just SV and SL? I heard that the base and S models do not have the compressor control valve, only a compressor without one. Thoughts?
The SV and SL are the only ones that should have it. I think if you have auto climate control you will have it and if you have manual climate control only you will not have it.
@@faithgiant_Ps91 My S model 2009 Altima has the manual climate control and the compressor on mine has a mechanically controlled valve (no wire). It just works off system pressures. Still variable displacement. Unfortunately on mine it is located facing the engine block, so if I replace it I may likely have to remove the compressor completely. My compressor model: Valeo DCS171C.

The control valve keeps the pressures balanced in the system, unlike systems without a control valve where the compressor cycles on and off all the time in a control valve system the compressor rarely cycles, the control valve will vary the displacement of the compressor instead of engaging and disengaging the clutch.

The relay is in the IPDM, the clutch should be much louder than the relay. If you hear clicking from the clutch area then that is probably the clutch so you should be good as far as the clutch, so you may be right about the refrigerant being low.

My grand vitara jb420 have this kind of compressor, but it also have a magnetic clutch infront, so my ac mechanic is a little confuse because when the compressor kick on, it wont turn off when it reach the temp that we want, like other compressor, in my toyota camry the compressor kick on when i turn the ac on, and then off automatically when it reach the certain temp, is this kind of compressor with a control valve behind it doesnt turn of automatically?

My gouges read 90 psi both high & low side with the car running. Is it possible to by pass or jumper the control valve ?
It's not the control valve, the compressor should still come on even with a bad control valve. If the compressor isn't coming on it could be the pressure switch but keep in mind the compressor connector is a high failure item. I have another video of troubleshooting and fixing the connector because of the same problem you are having.

The control valves are not on manual A/C systems. So your car must not be a SV and must not have automatic A/C.
@737mechanic Correct. It's a SR. Def a manual. No digital temp controls. Interesting. I'll look Into the difference between a compressor for a manual and a compressor for an automatic ac systems Thank you.
My compressor doesn’t look like that underneath!!! Can u help me out??
If you don't have automatic climate controls you will not have a control valve. Is your compressor engaging at all?
@@737mechanic it has an auto button on the panel where the ac button is at, btw it’s a 2008 Altima 4 cylinder
@@LeeShowReflection What is it doing?
@@737mechanic I have a 2012 Altima. How do I know if I have automatic climate controls?
Bro .. really helpful 👍
I didn’t know this whole time Hank from Breaking Bad was the one fixing that car 🤯
You have a good ear.
You can clean the valve in gas and spray air, and replace the seals. That’s all what’s needed. If you have issues with rear ac leaking but rear block off kit from street rod guys in USA 90$ perfe t fix and your ac will freeze again and only fill half the Freon. Nissan purposely designed the pathfinder set ac rear lines to pit and leak thousands of dollars in parts and costs! lol
My 2014 nissan altima doesn’t have that. Its the Valeo ac compressor that is installed on mine.
Only Altima's with auto HVAC have the control valve.
But im not getting a check engine light
Hi ,i have another problem with my Nissan rogue 2015 ac is working but it is freezing the evaporator under the dash ,and after 10 min.on a humid day is cloged with ice ,turning off ac for a min to defrost evaporator and then again turn on ac ,all day play. Filter is out ,changed termistor no help, PLEASE IF ANYBODY KNOWS THIS PROBLEM ? Thank you
Expansion valve is bad.
didn't work for me, i have a Nissan Altima 2015 sv the old valve got is stuck in the compressor, can't remove it. Guess you can take your chances doing this job. Ordering a new compressor. Thanks for the video though.
So you took the snap ring off and you couldn't get the valve out?
Does this also apply to Nissan pathfinder 2014? Where do I find the ac compressor valve for pathfinder 2014? Same issue with the Ac. Have been given quote of $1700 cad.
The control valve will always be on the compressor. I am not sure if the pathfinder has one or not.
I did this to my wife car and also changed the expansion valve compressor does kick in but the air is not cold
What are the pressures?
Low- 30-35 high-120-130
And of course after replacing goes to part I did Evacuate the system with a vacuum pump for almost two hours and then I recharge the system but for whatever reason it was only sucking in about 12 oz
@@ClaudBol the high side is a little low, when you feel the low side line does it feel cold at all?
Just I bit ,I wouldn't say it's cold but cool
