Can a new compressor have a faulty valve?

  • @davidcayll

Great video, this ac control valve is something nobody else covers. Everyone else just talks about the ac clutch. I got a harness pigtail from a junkyard car and used a 9v battery to test my ac control valve. In the junkyard the control valve would audibly click when releasing battery voltage. My ac control valve would not click at all. The control valve resistance was measured at 58 ohms where it should be between 2 to 7 ohms. Thanks a lot for this video.

I am working a 2020 Rav4 gas engine. I replaced the A/C condenser because it had a hole damaged from rock chip. After vacuuming 45 mins and recharge 1234yf freon with 2 oz of pag oil added, 1/2 can of freon. The low side read 70 psi and high side 80 psi. I just don’t know if the a/c could be the problem.

So does the little valve inside open a lot or just a little bit? I’ve done this test and I can hear the click and I have 3 control valves two brand new and one used off the old compressor. None of them allow air to come out of the ballon and I can see the little valve inside but it doesn’t move a lot.

Would any backflow from that processor cause an issue with this style of compressor? Any thoughts on this setup? My low speed fan doesn’t work . The resistance of it it’s bad . The medium and high speed fan works .
    Now , I’ve got this code B393B:04 on a Chevy Cruze 2012.
Air conditioning compressor valve control circuit open.
    There’s 2 wires in it ,
Terminal 1- power supply that comes from the HvAC module
Terminal 2 control - pwd control, HVAC module grounds t
On terminal 2 , I only checked with a test light , it goes on and off , so it works .
On terminal 1 there’s should be voltage supply from there coming from the HVAC module but I see nothing there , I checked it with the power probe. Haven’t gone into the module directly to see if there’s voltage there or if there’s a short somewhere .
Question is , this voltage supply should be on all the time or does the computer turn it on eventually ? Or how does it work ?

A local mechanic told me my AC compressor itself was fine but that the control valve was stuck in the open position, but he still refused to replace the valve! I took it to another place that specializes in car AC and the mechanic there had no idea what a control valve is and claimed the compressor on my 2016 Hyundai Accent did not have a control valve! I pulled it up on an auto parts supplier website and showed it to him. How can these people be so ignorant?

I hear you, heard some stories about stupidity myself...:o) That's what my grandfather said back in the 70's, "Please, please save me from the Stupids!!" Been learning and working on my own A/C systems for years, had both kinds cycling and variable, still learning like you to diagnose the variable. I'm in Canada, if you were nearer I'd say come on over and I'll stick the valve in for you....:o) Just a snap ring most times anyway how hard can it be? Cheers!~ Bellarmine

This is new component added to ac systems that have not been used in previous systems. I particularly don't like this addition as it is just another part that can fail that is not 100% necessary, but must keep up with the technology and learn the new systems as they come out.

@@johnnysalazar1552 Hi Johnny, thought I'd reply and see if I can help you any...:o) 1st question is the compressor clutch engaging? Are you talking about the compressor clutch power connector, or the compressor control valve power connector? The former is easy to diagnose, the latter not so much...:o) In either case check the wiring from end to end, and check the relays and fuse panel connectors. If there's no power on the connector with the system running then the wiring or control / computer is at fault.
For example I fixed a car where there was no power to the compressor clutch but there was power at the A/C relay. I traced the wiring back to the fuse block, removed the fuse block and found a mouse had chewed through the A/C clutch wires and even the backup camera wires (they didn't even know they had one lol)
Let me know if there's anything else, hope this helps Johnny, Cheers!~ Bellarmine

So disconnecting the wires should stop the gas flow from closing up, right? and allow gas to flow to allow compression right? My standing pressure is 120 psi. Compressor clutch works and compressor seems to try to do its job. But low side drops by a few psi and vibrates very noticeably but sometimes not. . High side stays at 120 and vibrates sonetimes but not as much. Im thinking blockage rather than bad compressor. Perhaps control valve? What do you think?

Thanks for all your videos. I have a problem with the AC on a 2005 BMW E87 116i. It didn’t work, so I got it serviced and refilled. It blew out the AC gas and the garage told me I have leak in the high pressure line. I changed it, not a funny job to do. Car was then serviced at BMW and I told them to do the AC as well. It worked for a few KM, then blew the AC gas again. BMW checked the system, and told me I need a new compressor. Cost 2000 € + for the complete job. Not going to happen. As the high pressure line was changed, the high pressure switch is new. So I bought a AC compressor solenoid switch, which you know, BMW does not sell or change. My question is this, is it possible to change the compressor switch while the compressor is in the car? Or do I need to take it out to do this job?
