Finally, two people reacting to this video who GET the right context off the cuff. So many channels reacting to this video and accusing Lionel Richie depicting himself as a stalker or a weirdo - it's like" you assholes, this is Lionel's INNER monologue, he's not really singing it to her. GET it already." I refuse to believe someone hasn't admired someone from afar and never said anything to them, as depicted in this video. It's called being human.
Who out there has never loved someone from afar??? Crushed hard on someone who you knew had no idea you existed??? Or so you thought? Or maybe they never loved you back....so what? It is ridiculous that so many want to turn a normal human experience into something evil or suspect.

I can't tell you how many times I cried to this song in 1984, after the loss of my first love when I was 16 because the song described how strongly I felt about my 1st love. I was in love with her from a distance for a year before I worked up the courage to call her and ask her for a date. 40 years later, I'm still in love with her and think about her every day. The song isn't about a man falling in love with a blind woman, its about someone falling in love with someone that doesn't yet know they exist. It's love from afar. Its about obsession.

Lionel is an amazing talent. If you want to hear & see another great performance, that he did in 2012 with Kenny Rogers you should find their performance of 'Lady'. So, so good. The song, their performance & their obvious deep friendship.

I still Remember when i 1st seen this video at 8 years old way back in 1983'' Its now 2023'' 40 years later And im 48 years old. This song still sounds good til this day. 80s babies music will always be timeless, And songs like these will get you in your feelings real quick. You need to do more songs by the commodore : they made a whole Lotta hits! Even back when this Video came out when was in Jr.High school , it made me think what would I do in that Situation ?
I can identify with thefaux . I had a best friend in high school and we both had a crush on each other but didnt have the courage to tell each other. I was too busy dating other girls while she had to listen to my antics. We eventually went seperate ways when I went to University in 1982. We both got married but she divorced my best friend 13 years ago. I lost my wife when she died in July 2023. Through some unplanned and unforseen initiative from some of our high school graduation class for a reunion, I found her, but we are geographically 12hours apart. Within 3 days of catching up we spontaneously declared our love for each other. Still cant believe it that after 42 years we were always in love but couldnt act on it. Now theres a new chapter in our lives as grandparents but smitten with each other.
I honestly think this is the greatest reaction video i have ever watched. Reliving this song through your eyes was magical. It brought back all the memories of seeing it for the first time. We have all felt this way about someone and this was incredible. Thanks.

I remember watching this video with my sons one day, and when the video was over they said to me, how was this video allowed to be on TV?….it’s about a teacher lusting after his student which is inappropriate, so I watched the and I started thinking OMG…have I been looking at this video all wrong….I was a teen when this song first came out and I always looked at it as a love story (and besides, I liked the song), but after watching you guys reacting to the video, I’m glad there is someone who sees the video the way I did growing up….Thank you.
It makes me sick that our kids have been taught to think of what is essentially a NORMAL human emotion or desire -- crushing on someone from afar and hoping they like you back -- is somehow dirty or suspect. It makes our boys doubt their own actions and emotions for women and our girls afraid of or disgusted by the boys around them..... I have never thought ill of this song or this video.
Essentially it shows two grown people in love with each other from afar. That is all.

A teacher lusting over his student is absolute pedo behavior. If she is not his student I will apologize, but it looks pretty straightforward to me. Beautiful song sick video. Of course a teenager would see it differently, but I’m surprised everyone seems to think the video is fine.

Almost as a subtle underlying current in this song & video was Lionel Ritchie's talent for "seeing" into the heart, & creating an artistic musical masterpiece of what he "saw" there.

I don't think anybody was ready when this video came out. This was mind blowing. A great song, but the video actually made the lyrics make more sense.

Come on man now you know how kids grew up in the 80s and 90s..... I know I was 18 years old, 1979 and I went to England as a Canadian. You have to know that Lionel Richie and a few others are amazing and actually Richie wrote Lady for Kenny Rogers. I tried to put this and I talk to the microphone and it keeps breaking up. It's a great, emotional, and powerful song, no question. Also, no problem whatever with the girl in the video being disabled. The problem is the student/teacher power dynamic, you just KNOW in 2024 if in any college a middle aged teacher dating their younger student (or trying to date) would be asked to resign. Things were a little looser in the 80's, but it does come off a bit cringe today. FYI: Lionel Richie did not come up with the video concept, the director they hired did, Lionel even stated that the video had no connection to his song.
