Sarah holland And they were all movie soundtrack worthy. As a guy I had a difficult time telling my friends I enjoyed this music. I enjoy all genres, but a little embarrassed for listening to “romance” music.
I'm 42, and I can see that "mainstream" formats such as radio and TV have changed focus a lot since the old days. But in 2020, you can find music in SO MANY more places. There are still many talented young artists singing beautiful songs. You just have to know where to look in this day and age. Turn your gaze from the focus of mass media and zoom out...way out. There are thousands and thousands of artists online now that the age of physical album sales is breathing it's last breath.
India, I just love your reactions. I have a story about Lionel that you might like. About 18 - 20 years ago my wife and I bought tickets to his concert. it was outdoors in an arena that was sold out. All 15,000 people waited and waited as the time for the start of the concert came and went. Over two hours passed and still nothing. One of many amazing facts about that night is that less than 500 people gave up and left. Lionel's management would come out every 30-45 min with explanations and updates. As it turned out; his plane had to fly around a storm to get to us, Finally a Greyhound bus pulled up and musicians poured out. The last one out was Lionel, smiling and happy to be safe on the ground. Lionel walked up to the mic and he was visibly moved. He said that it made him so sad that he was so late. He was very up-front with the audience that he had less than 30 min to play, then he had to run back and catch another plane. He begged all of us to keep our ticket stubs and no mater what he would come back as soon as it could be arranged. He then proceeded to give the best 25 min concert I've ever been to. His voice is totally on point, and he is a wonderful entertainer. The crowd was crazy the whole time. It was short but magical. He reminded everyone to keep the stubs. Then he was gone. About 6 weeks later it was announced that Lionel was on his way back, and had booked the brand new Basketball Arena in town. The announcement came with instructions... You could either just use your ticket stub for admission to the bigger, better show, or if you took your stub to the arena days before the show you could get a pass to bring a friend (date, mom, friend)! The next concert, Lionel flew in the day before so that there could be no issues this time. The "real" concert was an incredible 2.5 hours long! Mr. Richie is a class act and a great human being. What an incredible show and an incredible performer.
What a wonderful story, I just love to hear about artist that love there fans enough to not only want to see them but give them their money’s worth for their ticket! I remember the first time I saw Luther Vandross live in the mid 80’s he came out and rocked three big hits back to back, and told the fans “ I’m not gonna mess with your ticket money!” And Adele loves her fans too , she had 3 sold out shows in Phoenix in the middle of her 25 Tour in 2016 and couldn’t play one of those nights from sickness, she came back and did the show on the last night of her tour months later!
Such great stories! Thank you! Each and every one for sharing. I love hearing about artists who try to go above and beyond for their faithful and dedicated fans.🙂
Had a mad crush on a college friend back in the day. We were at the dance club in 1986 and I had them play this song and asked her to dance. Sang this song along in her ear and kissed her at the end. We spent the next 7 years together until it heartbreakingly ended. Still think she was the one I was looking for. Never found one like her since.
The Lady who played Laura is Laura Carrington who was on General Hospital in the 1980's. Over the years it was a common practice for Soap Opera Actors to make cameo Appearances in Videos. From The Young & The Restless, Days Of Our Lives, Guiding Light, and All My Children many have appeared in them.
Lionel Richie made it hard for us guys to compare to. Girls loved Lionel. For good reason. He was quite the singer. He spoke to their hearts. His words were eloquent. As far as good looking, I'll leave that for ladies to say.
Oh here's another fun fact. The Dance Teacher is Michael Peters who not only worked with Lionel Richie in this Video as well as "Running With The Night" he also worked with Michael Jackson during his Thriller Era, as well as Billy Joel (Uptown Girl) and Pat Benatar (Love Is A Battlefield). He was also the Assistant for the "Original" production o Dreamgirls to Michael Peters and both would sadly die of AIDS
Over 20 years ago Lionel came to London on tour and a couple guy friends suggested we go as a group to see him. We girls said yes as a kind of joke as we though he was really cheesey, but his intro on to stage was 'Hello' and it started with an extended score. We all got the chills as the lights went down and the music built up with his silhouette appearing. AMAZING SHOW and that will teach us to be so judgemental!!!
I love the smooth guitar solo in this song... One of my favorite 80’s songs. This song, Careless Whisper, Save a Prayer, and True are a few of my favorites.
Of course you like Lionel Richie.. everyone with good taste does... I remember seeing this as a little little girl. I kinda didn't know what was wrong with her, I mean I knew she was blind, but it was like I felt it, and like I could feel her pain. It always always makes me want to cry. I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ this song!!! Lionel Richie, just like George Michael, could write a song and sing it and make you feel sooooo much!!!
Lionel Richie solo was never as good as he was with The Commodores... like "Still"! Now that was a love song! Would love to see your reaction to that one, India.
Song writing champion. He did so much solo and with the comodores. I was surprised to find other songs he wrote made number ones six times for other artist. Very gifted.
Obviously some people will see that as stalking...nowadays the guys can’t even approach a woman anymore. They are too scared. I am so thankful I was born in in the 80’s.
I just discovered this chanel yesterday and I'm already hooked. Love your facial expressions and reactions when you listen to all those, most of the time, beautiful music from 'yesterday'. You're such an alert and grateful listener. From The Netherlands with love to you, India!
India thank u for ur intro. Letting us know if u have heard the song or not. That's great. If u have not heard its more of a raw reaction for u. If u have heard it but never really to the lyrics that's ok to. Take care. God bless. Hope to see more vids. The song and video really tell a great story. Lionel Ritchie a great singer and song writer.
@Robin yes it is, but it happens all the time. This is fantasy, it's not real. Therefore I take it for what it is, fantasy & of its time (the 80's). These politically correct days they would not place it in a College, which would be great.
I don't know y'all; last tyme I checked there were no 'class bells' in college. Too many classes with different days and length so a bell ringing would not be needed nor appropriate so to not disturb longer classes. High school has bells...
This song was absolutely massive in 1984-loved it as a kid, even though the video even as a seven/eight year old was mega cheesy/camp. It has been made so much fun of over the years & even the song has been maligned unfairly, as without the video it is a good piece of music.
Wow! I don't know what you all found cheesy about this video. It was like a mini movie! The song as a beautiful backdrop. I would have gone to see a movie with this as a premise and with this as the theme song! Whoever felt this song was maligned by the video isn't romantic at all!!!

I have always liked Lionel Richie. What really reinforced my respect for him was when he helped Shania Twain come back to singing after her bitter breakup. He just kept nudging, not pushing her to try. They finally worked to record My Love, in a bedroom of his bungalow in the Bahamas. How can a student being stalked by a teacher be so beautiful. I miss the days of GREAT singers and music Like Lionel Richie.....classics that had a life and emotion that bled out all over the listener...what a Gem
I absolutely love & adore Lionel Richie, so many wonderful songs, I was chosen to sing his song Say you Say Me at a benefit one year from my school chorus , Although my favorite would have to be Penny Lover or maybe Oh No with the Commodores
Lionel had an amazing live set at Glastonbury, but it was taken down on youtube a while ago. Now there are only clips of people filming it from the crowd on their phones.
I've loved this song since the 80s. But I've never seen the video before. Always loved Lionel Ritchie songs. I guess I found out about him through Kenny Rogers. And the fact that some of his songs were played on country radio.

Music was so much more about romance & storytelling in the 80's. My generation was so lucky.

When Elton John says you are one of the top song writers of all time.....that says something.
I’ve always loved Lionel Ritchie. He wrote and sang some great songs. This song has been used in so many movies. It’s the go to song for romance.

Indie, Lionel Ritchie is a legendary singer/songwriter, who I had the pleasure to meet in 2005, and hear him sing at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
I love Lionel. His record 'Still' is my favorite.
This is one of my all time favorite songs of the 80's. Such a beautiful ballad.

This tune is simply a CLASSIC!! It was number 1 in the UK for ages...I remember it well!!
What great music we had back in the 70's
I cannot think of one Lionel Richie song that less than perfect
every time my old housemate started singing the new hello, as soon as they said helo, I'd say "is it me you're looking for?"
the 80s when men sang romantic songs sadly long gone
Lionel Ritchie's voice is so unique, so smooth, pitch perfect and relaxing.
My all time favorite Lionel song!
Lionel Richie...one of the best musicians of the '80s! :)
I heard this on MTV and radio like 30 years ago. It's still one of my favorite songs!
Lionel Richie has always been one of my favorite singers even when he was with the Commodors to me his two best songs are Stuck on You and My Love.
Yes!!!
Music is a beautiful thing to have in so many different ways...
His song, "Still" just touches my heart every time I listen to it.
Reminds me when I was younger I miss those days being young and no worry all the music we had an life was simple
I just wanted to let you know I really love watching your reaction videos!!!!you don’t just watch them you really feel the meaning of the music .
I cry every single time I listen to this. Beautiful.
Anybody that can sing slow like this and Roberta Flack are IMO true and natural singers
Stalker. Love Lionel's voice. A great song when it came out and still is.

The 80's had some really fantastic music. Complicated, creative music with something to say, and it isn't always hateful and negative.
The music was well written, sang great and with a great message. This is not only missing today but was murdered by the industry.
